[Q] Flash rom unlock device? - Samsung Captivate Glide

Hello guys, i want know some informations about this device.
With AT&T you can upgrade firmware to ICS official ROM, But is locked by carrier : AT&T (so you cant use any simcard of others countries).
If i Flash the devise with CM10.1, I unlock the phone too (so i can use it with all simcard of all countries) ?
I read a lot forums and sites, and i heard people the carrier AT&T RE-lock the device after 3 - 4 Months!! How they can do it ? xD (i think is for some upgrade firmware?!?!?)
Sorry for my NOOB question .
Thanks Regards !

If you take a look around here, you'll notice that the unlocking has to do with the efs folder and the nv_data.bak file. A search would tell you how to unlock your Cappy Glide. Note that you should use the method that does keep your IMEI intact, and DO make backups of your phone and especially the efs folder before doing anything with it.

Yes, either one works. I'd recommend the second one for you since it'd be easier for beginners to use.
ROM's don't usually mod the efs partition, though some do mess it up iirc

[GUIDE] Unlock you i927 for free

This method has been sent to me by android235, I can not personally attest that it is working so please if you do that, make sure you have a backup or odin to reinstall your phone
After root, use a file explorer.
I use the ES File Explorer downloaded from the market:
- Launch it
- Goto "Settings> File Settings". Be sure that Show hidden files is checked
- Also be sure is checked "Settings > Root Explorer"
- In "Settings > Home directory" write "/" (without the quotes)
explore the "efs" folder in the root
- move the following files in a backup folder somewhere to your internal SD card (you will need them if you want to restore later to original phone setup) : .nv_core.bak, .nv_core.bak.md5, .nv_data.bak, .nv_data.bak.md5, nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5. Moving them they will be deleted from the efs folder (that's ok).
Reboot.
Now you will have it unlocked but with the generic IMEI.
Peace out.

Any way to restore the IMEI afterwards? Or is the simlock check based on the IMEI?

I suppose the files you saved are to restore if needed, for the rest I don't know as like I said did NOT try myself
Nah. I meant whether it is possible to restore IMEI while still having unlock. If I restore the files, the lock should be back. (My glide is unlocked, but thats not the point)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using XDA
I'd rather spend 25$ for an unlock key on Americanunlocker.com
(worked great for me)
In fact, I have tried to hack the nv_data.bin but seems that it is not the same as galaxy SII and galaxy S.
Although you will get unlocked (generic IMEI) when removed those files,
I highly recommand that you have to backup them in a very safe place. Otherwise if you encounter any problems, you have to sent back to AT&T / Rogers.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using XDA
The method will work.. i had tested it earlier.. a generic imei will be assigned..
however some operators do not accept generic IMEI..

This method is perfect ! My phone accept the Free Mobile's SIM card and is recognized by Orange and Free Mobile's networks.
(It connects too on the two another french carriers when theses networks are too low, I don't know why and if the reason is the AT&T ROM or the unlock method. By the way, although I am connected I can't do anything.)
i don't like having a genric IMEI. will wait for anther method or just pay for an unlock key (when i get my device ofcurse )
What do you mean by generic IMEI? Is it all 0s? Does this mean that it will no longer be detected as a smartphone?
I just tried this method and it did work for me thank u
one Q is there any way to fix genric IMEI and keep unlock .
Edit: I restore my files from a back up and relock the phone ..went to ebay bought unlock code for about 8 dollars ..Done

I've done the same thing with another website -more expensive x-( (Fastgsm.com), although it worked.
The only problem though is that every now and then the phone asks me again for the network unlock code. This has forced me to carry a text message with the info on the phone. So far it has asked me 3 times the unlock code. Every time I input the same code received, every time it accepts it and gets unlocked. But I think this is strange, this is the first phone I had that this happens.

Captivate Glide (Rogers version I927R).
I'm very interested in this thread since i'm french, and about to buy a phone in the US to use it here, in France.
If i understand well, the trick for unlocking it by file deletion is a bad idea since generic IMEI are not too well accepted on french networks, and when you buy an unlock code, it keeps prompting you sometimes.
My other option is the myTouch 4G Slide, so i'd probably better go for it

[q] network block after upgrade to 4.3

Hi community, as I stated on the title, im having a little problem here with the current 4.3 upgrade on my Note II.
Thing is I upgraded via Odin to 4.3 version; still, my provider service doesnt have the 4,3 upgrade, its only been released to free from fabric phones in my country.(downloaded from sammobile). Shouldnt have been an issue, but after i made the upgrade, my network got blocked. I ve read a lot of threads concerning this issue but still couldnt find a solution.
A link to possible answers would be super appreciated, or something.
Thnx in advance ! Hope i find a way to solve, have EFS saved in pc.
btw IMEI isnt wrong, its not a generic one.
It says : Service State : out of service
My phone number: Unknown
Rest of data seems fine...
Another thing is I sim unlocked the phone when it was at 4.1 to be able to use Movistar on it (via Galaxy S unlock worked) After upgrade network got locked again and asks for simlock code, tried with unlocker again and this time had no luck.. I dont know if the problem here its only that the sim unlock got locked again after the upgrade or what..EDIT: I cant use any of my chips, all of them throw "not registered..etcetc" msg... However this didnt happen when it was at 4.1
EDIT ONCE MORE: I ve been reading around, and seems there is no current way to unlock sim for all companies for note 2 at 4.3 ? Is this correct ? This is frustrating ._.
sry about the double post, anyone can confirm this last thing to me ? Is it correct there is no current way to unlock sim for all companies at 4.3 stage?

I have the same problem, and i found 2 ways to do it :
-either buy an unlock code ( about 25$)
-or downgrade ( if it's possible to 4.1.1, and use the classical way ( with samsung Code)
i hope that someone will suggest another way to do it
@julesarg, have you tried the patched kernel and modem from this thread?

[Q] Carrier Confused

Hey guys, im from Lebanon and my friend asked me if i can fix here slow Galaxy S3...I told her that i can try to flash a custom Rom (witch basically are made for making mobile phones faster)....the confusion is, we live in Lebanon, and her phone model number is SGH-T999V, so its a Canada variant...i have no ideas about carrier, but i just wanna know if i flash a custom Rom (lets say CarbonROM):
first, the zip file is the one that ends with d2lte?
and second, will the phone be locked to a specific carrier or i can use it with, in my case, a Lebanese Sim card normally without further action?
tnx in advance, and sorry for my bad english

Yes, D2LTE is the one you are looking for. If the phone has never been SIM unlocked then the phone shall ask for an unlock code as soon as you put a SIM card from another carrier that's not the one that came with the phone.

thank you for your reply, she already used it with a Lebanese sim for about 2 years with no problem, does it means that the phone is SIM unlocked for use in Lebanon and will stay like this after flashing custom ROM? OTA official android updates also work normally btw, and after the flash she will use the same sim

Everything should work the same as usual after the flash. You may just have to change the APN after flashing. So, you may want to write down or screen cap the current APN settings before flashing.
okay guys thank you very much...ill update this post after flashing, sry for bothering

[Q] Upgrade Software on Unlocked AT&T LG G3

I have searched and haven't found any info on how to do this, so please bear with me.
I recently purchased an AT&T LG G3 with the intention of unlocking it and putting it on T-Mobile. I unlocked it and it is now, for the most part, functioning. There are only a few issues: my MMS doesn't work at all and it has all of the AT&T stuff pre-installed. I wan't to download and install the base KitKat kernal on my phone, but I don't know where to get it and I don't want to risk bricking my phone.
So my questions for you are these:
1. Where can I get the base kernal for the LG G3?
2. Will installing that kernal cause any problems with my phone?
3. Are there any suggestions for something else I can do?
Thank you all!

How are you planning on flashing anything on a d850??
You cannot flash anything on the D850, because the bootloader is still locked. The kernel is stock so there is no need for change. Check your apn settings to see if there is a T-mobile apn, Google is your friend if it is not there.

I think what they are trying to tell you is:
1. only T-Mobile G3's have unlocked boot loaders
2. so only T-mobiles can be rom flashed
3. AT&T boot-loaders are locked, so you can not flash the rom.
Lol the irony. So he/she bought the at&t phone that comes with a locked boot loader (nothing to do with root) and wants to put it on T-Mobile that already have unlocked bootloader? Lmao... Read read and understand what you are asking before talking back to people that are trying to help you.

icon sets defined in build.prop not the bootloader. If you had bothered to look around here you would have seen at least two methods to change them back to stock. As for bloat, that is not bootloader either, just system apps.

Hi
I made a stupid mistake with my G988B, its were not working well, so I decided install a stock rom, but downloaded and installed o last version of software from another country (G988BXXS2ATD5, XEF ) whit Security Level Patch of may 1, 20.
After installed new stock rom, my phone ask for Network Unlock Code.
When realized of my mistake, tried reinstall orignal version of firmware (G988BXXU1ATCT, PGU) but nothing work for me. I have tried to flash with Odin, but always, process stop in "flashing vbmeta.img."
I have read a lot tread trying figure out my problem like: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20/how-to/howto-root-s20-series-upgrade-firmware-t4079353/post82220417#post82220417
There is a way to come back original stock rom and then trying unlock network?
Could this process work in my case without damaging my phone?
Thanks.

Thanks por your answer, but I did it.
It doesnt work.
Samkey is the only way to unlock a Samsung phone other than getting the network unlock code from the network or third party. You must know what you are doing. Google the process. If that doesn't work then there is an issue here that needs further investigation. Also ensure your active csc code is the one that was originally on the phone as well as stock rom. Sam key can be used to change csc as well.
Good luck

Thanks mikey_sk,
My problem is that both the csc code and the stock rom are not the original ones. Therefore I am looking for a guide to help me how to get back to the stock rom.
I have read that the problem is, the security patch that I installed as it is newer than the one I am trying to reinstall. I will keep trying.
I understand that so far there is no way to go back from binary 2 to binary 1.
Any help is appreciated.

Ok,
Thanks.
No more questions.
You can always use the sim slot 2, it is usually not locked.
I suggest you change the csc to a stock one using Sam key. Make sure you enable USB debugging in developer settings otherwise Sam key won't work. After that dowload the most recent stock rom for that device from sammobile and flash in ODIN but DO NOT use HOME_CSC so it can do a full wipe and rebuild the firmware. As an added measure as soon as installed go into recovery and do a full wipe. If network is still locked try unlocking it with samkey

Unfortunately for it, you mentioned only sim1 is blocked and you still can use sim2.
This is not network lock but rather imei blacklist.
The only way to fix this is to pay your telco bills from where you purchased the phone. If it's a used phone, I would get a refund. There is no roms you can use that can fix it as it's blacklisted from the telcos.
There is only 2 reasons it is locked.
1. You didn't pay your installment bills.
2. The phone is reported as stolen.
If you purchased a used phone, get a refund.
