Hi all, Its been almost 2 years since i did an OTA update on my play and bricked it. Using the first patch that came out to fix this problem of phone not booting, i "destroyed" the bootloader or something or RadioRom and my phone does not accept any sim. it was originally unlocked.
Has anyone come up with a way to revive the play to make calls or something. cos its really depressing having a phone jus lying there wasting away, only to be brought out when needed for navigation or games.
Someone please helppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
Again, not development related

Surely, if your phone is unlocked you can flash a new firmware, and get back onto a kernel and custom ROM, right?
If it was an OTA update that destroyed the phone, they should have replaced it or offered you a discount on a replacement, too; unless it was a custom ROM OTA like CyanogenMod offers.
dont know how to move post, but reposted in QA section... so help pls

Bro, find the appropriate FTF files, download Flashtool, plug up your phone and revert back to stock.
BTW, if you bricked it 2 years ago, you could have gotten it replaced for free by you service provider (at least you can do that with Verizon here in the US)

i debranded from orange rom and everything was fine i got an update so i did it now its saying network locked ?
Are you sim-locked to Orange?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yup but i got the first update and everything was the same now i got a another update and it has gone like this
Try to unlock your sim card and the message should not appear again. You can buy an unlock code directly from Orange or get one online from a reputable sim-unlocking site, even on eBay. It is possible that you flashed a generic rom that included one of the radio versions which causes this network message to appear. This only happens with Orange branded phones for some reason...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I guess the update was 1.21.405.2
Orange phones that have been de-branded seem to either have their WiFi broken or go to SIM Lock. The only way out of it is to buy an unlock code. (See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693511)
The same happened to me -- although I know it would, and still wanted to de-brand. I just bought a code for £9 from: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300434867258#ht_1893wt_911 popped it in and it worked!
Yeah, it's not ideal but at least you have a de-branded and unlocked phone.
You see what you did there Faddy? You've been told on TWO previous posts SEARCH THE FORUM. In fact the answer to the two obvious questions you asked needed NO SEARCH AT ALL as the answers were recent enough they're still on the front page, but you decided beeing snarky and lazy was better.
Well you would have read peoples issues with the second update and would have avoided this. I have zero sympathy for you.
I have seen many posts by this member... makes you think, could he not have just noted all his queries in one post?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I have to agree with you lot that the OP is lazy and wants spoon fed!
That said, Faddys, if you flash an older radio this should unlock your sim for you again.
I'll let you do the searching to find which one
Edit: When you flash a radio, it goes through 2 reboots. DO NOT interrupt the flash, or remove the battery if you think it's taking too long. This will brick the handset.

It might help others who are following this thread to say how you unlocked it.
Did you reflash an older radio, or did you buy an unclock code?

You flashed an i9100 rom?!!?! I'm blown away. Why...why...why? Why in god's name would you do that? We have completely different hardware, of course your phone won't boot. Dude...
~EDIT~
There's a really good chance you're hard-bricked.
As a warning to other people out there who are just starting to do this stuff. DO NOT THINK THAT BECAUSE YOU HEARD SOMEWHERE THAT IS IS EASY THAT YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT READING OR LEARNING ANYTHING. We here at XDA are all for helping people but this OP clearly did not read about flashing, read about what our phone is compared to the international version, or even do a search before posting this because then he would know how to attempt to get it into download mode and odin new firmware onto the device. We're not your personal, 24-hour tech support. If you want that, do not expect us to do it for free. If you genuinely want to learn about things and want someone to teach you how to fix something you did wrong, we'll be happy to do that. I'm going to repeat this one more time for effect:
We are not your personal, 24-hour/7-days-a-week, free tech support.
Yea. Im not gonna preach because i bricked my first phone yesterday :/
But its very important we dont flash software from other phones. This phone is different than any other Samsung and GS2 out there. You can often recover a phone if you flash the wrong rom, apparently that will not be the case on this phone..
If you cant get into recovery or dl mode theres no chance of a recovery. Sorry. Recovery can be accessed by pulling the battery, putting it back in, holding volume up and down and power all at the same time. Release the power button while continuing to hold both volume buttons ONLY if the samsung logo pops up. If nothing, try dl mode. That is done by pulling battery, putting it back in. Hold volume up and down while inserting the usb cord. If it does nothing your pretty much sol.

I flashed a kernel using the mount point for epic touch. Not sure which partition it actually flashed to but as soon as it flashed the phone shutdown and wouldnt do anything. Part of trying to get things going here we now know the right partition to flash a kernel too just working on the path.

Idk if someone already mentioned this but try this:
1.Pull battery out
2.Download Odin 1.85 or above
3.Install drivers
4.Open Odin.exe
5.Put your battery back in to the phone
6.While holding both volume keys, plug the USB in and if your phone goes into.download mode then you are set and can pick up all the stock stuff and flash it via Odin.
And if that doesn't work then you will need a jig to get into download and I dnt knw if someone had made one yet or not.

I work at a AT&T retailer and I have a customer who bought one for his ~14 year old son Friday night. I set up his Google account and wrote down the credentials for him to remember.
He came in today and was stuck at the lock screen you get after too many login attempts. It asked for either the secret question or Google account information. I used the paper I wrote with his login info and entered it in, it didn't work. I go to the secret question part and it asks for his mothers maiden name which I don't recall ever setting up...in either case the answer didn't work. I believe a factory reset will work but I don't know how without being able to go into settings. Is there a button combo I can hold down when booting to boot into some sort of system manager that would allow a reset?

No the phone is not stolen. No we don't. We aren't a COR store, our computers are ****, and the way they are set up we cannot install anything on them. I don't work today, but I'll just bring my laptop in Monday and wipe it that way if he doesn't just say f it and return it today.
I myself am personally still new to android, and I've been looking up some stuff on rooting my sgs2 but am not quite there. So I don't want to get into flashing roms and all that because I'm not anywhere near being able to do that comfortably.
Any of ya'll would be lucky to get me as your salesperson, when I walk into other stores, I cannot believe how dumb and clueless the sales reps are. I know my ****, but even I don't know everything...but I have the decency to go look up the correct answer instead of flat-out lying & bs'ing.

All android phones are diffrent, every make HTC/Samsung/Sony/etc have there own partition structure, so although rooting/modding diffrent models of the same brand of phone is simlar, going from one make to another is quite diffrent By the way, sorry i called you a thief before. But you can never be too sure on the internet, people will say anything to get what they want
You could try this link: http://matthewhollander.com/locked-out-of-your-android-phone/
Also, I agree with jonnyredcorn, in my experience, customer service in the US normally consists of trained monkeys who parrot corporate lines without actually knowing what it means. I'm pretty sure I could walk into a verizon store (my provider) and ask anybody working there what adb is, or what a script is and be met with only blank stares.
So in short, thank AT&T guy for actually caring about what you do, you're one of few.

Isn't just there a way to disable this annoying feature!?!?
My kids/friends often play with my phone and lock it, I'm using two-step verification, and have to regenerate an app-specific pwd.
I don't mind ppl trying to hack my pattern zillion times and it shouldn't lock down.
This feature sucks my soul out! Hell I hate it!
Any way to disable this nasty "feature" will be appreciate.
I saw this thread in the Epic and Rezound forums and related to most of them.. so just post and complete this sentence "You know you're rooted when.."
Examples:

wscott9903: You know you're rooted when 1/2 of your apps require superuser permission.
feralicious: You know you're rooted when your spouse tells you they're leaving you and taking the kids and you think "perfect timing, (insert dev name here) just released a new ICS ROM".
jayochs: you know you're rooted when your phones buggy as hell lol
putney1477: You know you're rooted when, you husband, wife, significant other gets a new phone and says, don't you dare come near this phone, it works fine!
jackpot08: You know your rooted when when spend more time flashing roms than using your phone
You know you're rooted when all of your iPhone using friends use you specifically as a reason why Android devices are buggy and always need work.

Hi all,
I could not believe that I just made such a huge mistake.
I was curious to try the UltimaROM and downloaded it. It has so many features and for the first time in my life I did not check that this ROM is for I9100 and not the t999.
I was also curious to update the CWM and asked it to install the "latest one" which is one of the features in the menu.
Once it asked to reboot, after the install - the phone never woke up again. I cannot get it into recovery or download mode. The power button just do not respond and I do not feel the short vibration that usually occurs when the phone is being turned on.
I'm on a business trip for the next 4 weeks and now I'm stuck without a phone...
Does anyone have any idea how to help? I'm lost without the phone (and yes, I know I should have not done that when I'm away from home and I should always check the phone version.. I did a silly thing but can anyone please has any idea how to recover?)
Thank you in advance.

You can send it into mobiletechvideos. They'll do it for $50 I think. They're in Texas though so shipping may be a pain. But still better than getting a new one.
