I'm on the stock rom and rooted and the update must of downloaded and now it's bugging me to install it is there anyway I can turn it off so the icon goes away?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk
It will keep bugging you every 5 minutes if not more. Follow viperboy's instruction using a file explorer with root access like ES file explorer. After you delete the two files, go ahead and run the update. It will try to but nothing will happen, not even a reboot. After that, it won't bug you again.

have you recently changed your system ui or rom?
im having this problem after installing this mod. can u check it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633768
Yeah, that's a new system ui, so possibly incompatible with your current rom/framework. If you have root explorer or another root file explorer, extract the zip, find the system.ui, and copy it to /system. change permissions to xx,x,x then move to system/app and reboot. If that doesn't work and you don't have a nandroid backup then you'll have to flash the rom you're using again.
Root programs that I've uninstalled via root uninstaller?

I've removed some programs through root uninstaller. Such as gmail. I didn't make backups.

Probably have to wipe data and reinstall roms or try flashing a Gapps package.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
some apps, such as gmail, can be downloaded from the market. For others have you tried pulling the apks from your rom.zip and placing them in /system/app?
While it is normally fine to remove certain system apps (I routinely strip down every rom I install of certain apps), getting them back can be a pain sometimes if you're not sure how to do it. Another way to achieve the same goal is to 'freeze' all the apps you don't want to use. They won't show in the app list and they won't run in the background but they will still be there if you ever need them.

I would wipe data if it doesn't work reflash the rom.
Some of the stuff you may have removed may be best resolved by reflashing the build that you're using. For example, I use Gmail and another mail app, no need for Exchange or the stock email. I used to not back these up so when I actually needed to test something it was off to ODIN my phone again . Now I use TB and back it up before I remove it.
This is very simple to fix. It should never be a pain to accomplish either.
1: Find the apps you want to restore in the rom you flashed (if you don't have the original .zip, download it or a similar rom). Use 7zip or WinRAR to open the rom file.
2. Copy the apps you want to your sdcard.
3. Use Root Explorer or similar app to move or copy the apps to /system/app (you will need to make sure your file explorer can mount the /system in rw)
4. Reboot and enjoy
Basically you just want to pull the apps from a copy or the rom you flashed or a similar one (ICS>ICS GB>GB). Then move those apps to /system/app and reboot. The phone will reinstall them when it boots back up.
Unrelated to the epic...I rooted my sisters phone while she was visiting over the weekend. She had to leave before I could flash CM7 on her phone so I'm doing it remotely right now. Her phone is old and has no support really so I'm asking here. When I try to boot in CWM it won't. I have figured out why but cannot fix it remotely. Is there a way to get gapps installed without going through CWM? Like download the .apk files individually and install them so she can at least log into her google account until I can fix it?

I think maybe you could download the gapps zip, extract it somewhere, and copy the apk files into the /system/app folder on the root of the phone. You'd have to use a file manager on the phone with root access, I recommend ES File Explorer, if you use this one then you have to tic a couple settings: Up to Root, Root Explorer, and Mount File System. After you copy the files into the system/app folder (ON THE PHONE, NOT ON THE SD CARD) then reboot the phone and should hypothetically be working.
Without having gapps, she will need to install amazon app store to get es file explorer, unless you want to track down the apk for it for her. As long as her browser is working she should be able to download the amazon app store without any trouble.
Thank you! Will give it a try.

Hm it keeps saying copy failed which sounds like there is no root but there is and things can be deleted. Anyone good with adb know if it can be flashed that way?

Weird. It installed googleservicesframework but nothing else. I still can't write anything to the root but I can delete. Its like I have half a rooted device. But I get an "install parse failed no certificates error" when I try anything else.

I am running Note Cards 1.1 and I get an OTA update notification every few minutes and it is driving me nuts! Does anybody know how to disable update notifications on the Galaxy Note II?
Anybody?
Why does a custom ROM not remove this? Just goes to show that a little bit of knowledge about developing can be dangerous and a stock ROM with build.prop tweaks shouldn't even be posted...
That said, delete /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip and reboot.

On the gs3 we just ran the update as it wouldnt go through, then reboot the phone as it would take you to recovery. after that it wouldnt prompt you any more.

Then wipe /cache and see if that helps. That's where the OTA downloads too.

Its simple root your device and you are done.you will not get ota notification as ota is disabled when device is rooted.
And even this doesn't works then root device, download app called link2sd or Rom toolbox and freeze software update app.it will work for sure.

Lol, I'm certainly rooted and still get the notification. I have also frozen the update app and still continue to receive the notifications on a regular basis.

Delete the file viperboy said, and delete the update file in /cache (if it's there). Then accept the update...the reboot timer will start but nothing will happen. Press the home button and never look back. Worked for me.

Thank you! Followed this to the letter and finally got rid of that pesky OTA to MA7. I like my rooted LJC and do not want to update yet.
Thank you Viper boy. Solved my issue.

I feel like an idiot but reading/googling hasn't helped me figure out how to actually find this folder to delete that file. Is this something you find on the phone itself or with the rom zip pre-flash. My file manager doesn't have any folders named system, etc, or security

First off you need a file manager that allows root access, make sure you allow those folders to be accessed "in the settings menu of that manager." It is a file from your device if you are getting the notification.

I deleted OTAcerts.zip, cleared my cache, and rebooted. I still have that damned update notification. If I try to run it it just says "no firmware". I'm running the stock ROM with Perseus kernal. I am on AT&T, I'm not sure if that would account for the difference or not.
I just received the update and nothing has happened. I no longer getting update notification

definitely disabled
Update for a sure way without deleting files rooted device.
use a folder explorer like Root Explorer:
[QRCODE]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en[/QRCODE]
Navigate to:
/system/app: change fwupgrade.apk to fwupgrade.old and keychain.pak to keychain.old
/system/etc/security: change otacerts.zip to otacerts.old
Now reboot to recovery mode and wipe cache. Reboot system to GUI. If update appears, accept install. Countdown will appear but nothing will be installed.
The update notification will no longer appear. :good:
I reverted to rooted knox free stock firmware N7100XXUEML6 on my Note 2. I then had to re-root the rom using Dr. Ketan's Multitool.
Now, i have installed every app, but when it comes to installing facebook or viber, the playstore gives me error -24. I looked up forums and found that the problem would be solved if i deleted the app folder in /data/data. The folders i am supposed to delete are com.facebook.katana and com.facebook.orca.
But whenever i use root explorer to delete the folder, it fails to delete the folder. I have also tried using Aroma file manager in Dr. Ketan's multitool and the phone hung. I then tried terminal emulator using the delete command but it gives me an IO file error.
What am I missing? How do i get through it? Because a facbook-free phone is pissing me off!

Alright, i solved it finally... for those searching to do so, go to /data/data/folder you want, and rename it to something like com.backup.1.
This thing will allow u to install the application! Toodles!
