I haven't updated my HOX since November, bought a Note 2.
But wanna try my little X phone again . Right now my One X is on an old CM10 4.1 build from October.
What's the best install method again ? I think my HBOOT is ancient. Says like from May 2012, how do I update that if need be, I never once updated my hboot or modem since I bought the phone last Spring
UPDATE:
I must have screwed up, been like 5 months since I last used this phone, stupid no S-Off I put this ROM file on my sd/card, grabbed the boot.img from it, and put on my PC. I plugged the phone into USB computer, rebooted to Bootloader, then to Fastboot, where I did the command prompt stuff to flash the boot.img, then I went into Recovery after that, wiped data, factory reset, wipe cache, wipe davlik, format system, etc...
Then flashed the ROM, and rebooted, now it is just sitting with there, with the little android logo, like it should be booting up into the OS, but it's been like that for ten minutes now ? What step did I do wrong ? I forgot, how do I get back into the bootloader again, when stuck like this ?

Did you do a nandroid backup before flashing new rom? If you did, flash its boot.img, full wipe and restore. There's an app on play called cid getter. It will tell you your cid.

I live in the States, Chicago to be exact, running this on Straight Talk ATT, but did not buy the phone locally. I have two One X's, the one I am working on is from an Indian guy, I bought off Craigslist, I believe he bought out there ? The other One X, I bought from a different guy, who said he had it shipped from Europe. My Wife is still using that phone, on an old CM10 ROM from September. I can try that app to find her region ( hey now )
Off topic, I am on the Samsung Note 2 as my daily driver, running Straight Talk. Wow, Samsung phones are so much easier for flashing ROM's + kernels. Pretty crazy the One X still doesn't have S-Off yet, almost a year later. If this is the route HTC will keep going, and not allowing true root, and flashing ROM's, no way am I ever gonna buy another HTC phone again. Just sticking to Nexus phones, or Samsung.

Not a good idea. Region as in the phone's origins. Try another rom, ics. You need to have a working rom.

Try the link I gave earlier. Not sure if your recovery will allow you to mount sdcard. You can then put the rom in.

Yes it does. I plug in the USB to the phone and PC, turn it on by holding down vol key + pwr button, go into Bootloader, it says fastboot, then I click that, and then says fastbootusb, and I hear my PC speakers jingle, as I plug in the USB cord.

What you need is a recovery that allows your computer to access sdcard. The hboot number isn't relevant here.
Edit: perhaps you should power down device and ask again later. Someone else might be able to guide you better. As I said, if you can access bootloader and recovery, you are still good to go.

What should I do?
Well as your phone powers on its not a proper brick, when it powers on and gets to the first boot screen like you say there is usually like a 99% chance it can be recovered.
Edit: stupid thanks button!
How long do you leave it on the htc bit before you power down again? maybe your just not waiting long enough.
left it on for 10 minutes.
all it says is "HTC" in green...
Are you able to get into hboot? Try holding the volume down key while you turn on the phone.
One easy thing to try would be to flash an RUU, make sure you find the correct one for your phone (Z or G2) and make sure its the latest one around.
That will return your phone to stock so you can attempt to root again.
yes, yes i can get into HBOOT.

Have you got a custom recovery?

I tried recovery. It turns into a blackscreen with a phone in the middle and a read triangle with a ! on top of it.

I know some. But not everything. Only the very basics. I have had a rooted hero before. I have had some experience with it.
I am not able to use adb tho. (As in, can't get it to work currently)
when i type "adb remount"
it says "error: device offline"
I have plugged in the USB cable.
basically all you need to do is find the clockwork mod recovery image file
put it in your adb folder
turn phone on hboot, and select fastboot
then type the following into your pc
"fastboot flash recovery [recovery.img]"
obviously replace [recovery.img] with whatever your recovery is called (and no [])
then you should be able to boot into clockwork mod recovery and from there you can install a new rom.
before I really do anything wrong here, would you be able to direct me to an image file?

Today I was flashing a new Rom (the GingerSense Leak to be specific) and when I was in Rom Manager I decided to update my recover from 2.5.0.7 to 3.0.0.5 (not sure if either of these numbers are right). When I finally rebooted into what I thought was recovery my phone sent me to the bootloader menu. Which normally isn't a big deal and it means that the recovery version didn't take. This time when I selected reboot it rebooted back into the bootloader menu. Now I can't get anywhere, no recovery and no way to reboot the phone.
Am I F$%#ed?
I did do a search and no one has quite had the same problem I am having.
Thank you for the help in advance.

Try running an RUU.
Not sure how advanced of a user you are, but you can try and check if your phone is recognized via USB while in the bootloader and try pushing the recovery on via ADB. That way, you can just restore a good NAND instead of having to start over.

Does your bootloader show Ship S On or Ship S off? If it's S off still, you can probably just flash a PC36IMG of a recovery, using the bootloader. That looks like what teh roxxor attatched, based on the file size of the PC36IMG he attatched. If you're not S off anymore, I'd suggest running an RUU to flash you back to stock, and then start over from that point.

So where are you at exactly? Did you get the recovery flashed earlier, and your phone is back up and running? And now you're just trying to get ADB to work, and you're having trouble..? OR, are you still stuck, and never got the phone back online earlier?
Do you get an error when you try to use adb, or is it just not seeing the device?

Haha, I was confused on what you were trying to use adb for. Were you just trying to push the .zip to your sd card? The reason it wasn't working is because you were in the bootloader. ADB only recognizes if the phone is in recovery, or booted into the OS. That's why it wouldn't see adb for ya. And yes, now that you have the PC36IMG on your sd card, you should just be able to apply that using the bootloader, and then you should be able to get up and running again.

Well, apparently you don't know what you're talking about. There is no such thing as rooting on Windows Mobile. You're talking about HardSPL.
Did you install the HTC drivers or HTC Sync?
To find out whether your phone is rooted go into the bootloader (turn phone off, then hold volume down when you power it back on). When the bootloader starts up if it says "S-OFF" at the top of the screen you are rooted. If it says "S-ON" then you are not.

Try a different computer/USB cable?
Can ADB see your device when it's plugged in?
Are you S-OFF? If so, try flashing a different ROM and see if the problem goes away.
Like others said, too difficult to definitively say what's going wrong without you providing some more information.

do you have root permitions ? if so - download rom manager (at market), at first click on flash clockwork recovery and when its done take "download rom" - choose which one you want to and follow the steps that will rom manager tell you.
otherwise you could (after flashing recovery) put some rom to your sdcard, go to the recovery (power button + volume up; take care to not have pc10img file on your sdcard in that moment) - go to the recovery, wipe data /cache, advanced - wipe battery status / dalvik; back , instal zip - choose zip file with rom - and you are ready to go.

Hi guys, well I'm a new HTC One X owner and I just jumped ship from the iPhone. I had jailbroken my iPhone several times with only minor problems in the past so I thought I'd give it a try on the One X. Unfortunately, I think I've really screwed something up and now when i boot it up, it vibrates and then hangs at the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. So here's what I did:
I downloaded Hasoon2000's HTC One X All-In-One v.1.1 kit. I followed the instructions and as far as I could tell, everything worked fine. The bootloader was unlocked and I was able to root the phone. However, after installing a couple of apps which all crashed when I tried to run them (it made the phone restart), I decided to do a factory reset and do it again. So i held onto the power button + volume down and went into the Bootloader and tried to reset it which then took me to the CWM 5.8.4.0 screen. I then did the factory reset there which led me to where I am now.
Could someone please tell me where to proceed from here to bring it back up and running normally again? As you can probably tell, I know next to nothing about Android so I would really appreciate some patience and step by steps. I've already scoured Google looking for a solution but I could never understand what people were talking about. If you need any more information to give you a better diagnosis, please let me know and maybe tell me how to find the information
Thanks a lot people, any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not sure exactly what you mean. By that, do you mean did I install a non-stock OS? If so, then the answer would be no. I did flash the recovery with CWM 5.8.4.0 but I have a feeling that, that's not what you meant.

Thanks a lot man! Could you...please tell me how to do that? I saw a few threads discussing soft-bricks and they suggested downloading some stuff and then plugging the phone into the PC and typing some commands into cmd. But when I connect my phone into my PC i get no response, even when I'm in the Bootloader screen.
And also, does it matter which version of the official firmware i get? I saw people mentioned RUU files but it had to match my phone's version. Does this have anything to do with that?
I believe you should just plug the phone and run your factory ruu and that would do it and bring the phone back to stock.
Heres where u can get the ruu, am not sure whats the codename for the international hox but i think this is it. Please make sure you are using the correct ruu for your phone.

You should probably read up before trying this again. If you can hold the power button and volume down. It should bring you into a menu. You should press the volume down button until fast boot is highlighted and then press the power button to select it. Download htc sync and install the drivers. Go to the one x development section and download the ruu for your device. Then run the ruu.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys. That link you gave me says that they are ROMs for Endeavor, is that the same as a ruu? And also, how do i figure out which ruu is right for me? I'm in Switzerland and my carrier is Orange but I see several ruus there under orange but none of them are for Switzerland and there are even different version numbers. In my current state, is there a way for me to find out which version I need?
By the way, when I try to connect my phone to my PC in fastboot mode and open cmd prompt and type in "fastboot getvar cid", i get "'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." If i click Fastboot on my phone and then HBOOT whilst plugged into the PC, i get a few lines on my phone saying that it "Failed to open USB master mode" and then "please plug off USB".

That probably means fastboot is not properly installed in your pc.

okay, I didn't realise I had to install fastboot on my PC. So i just configured it following the directions here: http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/2153...ows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/
and now when my phone is hooked up to my PC and i type "fastboot getvar cid" into cmd prompt, i get this:
cid: None
finished. total time: 0.004s
So what does this mean?
Download an app from the marketplace and see what that comes up with. Also go into settings about phone software information then software number. What is the software number?

My phone can't get past the opening splash screen, you know where it says HTC Quietly Brilliant? It just stays there, so I can't go into marketplace or check my settings,
You are going to need to find out wich ruu version u need. I dont know how carriers identify themselves on europe. After you identify it get into the bootloader menu get on fastboot and the open the ruu you downloaded the software should do everything by itself. Btw if you do this your going back to stock that means no root no cwm or wtever you had your going to have to do everything again but at least you got the phone working. Once you identify the ruu you need i would not download the latest version just in case the carrier fixed the root method or something. Again i dont know much about how europe works and how bossy carriers are about rooting/unlocking bootloader. You can try asking on that same thread for the one you need. Someone elsr might have an answer. Good luck.
Ps. Am not sure if you are going to need to relock the bootloader in order for the ruu to run. Can someone shed some light on this?

Btw before you do that have you tried getting on the recovery??? Can you get on cwm?? If u can do that i believe there no need to flash the ruu instead just flash a different rom maybe??? Did you get to make a backup before this happened??

Thanks a lot joker96. I can get into CWM, so how would i flash a different rom? Unfortunately, the only backups I made are of my personal files and apps, I didn't think to backup anything else.
What were you trying to do that made all this happen?

Oh derp sorry I completely forgot. You would download a different rom and follow the guides on the thread to install it. Wipe davlik cache, cache and data. Try ARHD.
Sorry, i didnt read the first post completly. So you did a factory restore wipe on cwm, am i correct? You didnt clear cache and dalvik?

What do you mean "different rom"? As in a different rom to the one I had? And what's ARHD?

Well the thing is, I'm not 100% sure what I did. First I did a factory reset on CWM and everything worked fine, but when my phone rebooted, I realised CWM was still there. What i wanted was to go back to square one, as in no recovery and no root. So i went back into recovery and wiped some other stuff, and that's when this happened. I know, I'm a total idiot, I don't know what i was thinking
Yea a different rom to what you had maybe that one had problems. ARHD is Android Revolution HD any other rom would work though. Just pick one from the development section.

Well i just took a look at the ARHD thread and I'm stuck on the second line of instructions: "Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)"
I have no access to my SD card, when i plug it into my PC, nothing happens because all i can do is go into recovery and bootloader.
Just a question, if I try to use the wrong ruu, what would happen?
Hi,
I just installed the the Revolution ROM on my desire HD and then when i rebooted it it went straight to the revolution reboot menu....
As i am a NOOB i downloaded the Clockwork recovery, reinstalled the revolution rom but same thing happens...
When i reboot the system it starts up (HTC screen) turns off starts back up again and goes straight to "clockworkmod recovery" menu...
I cant even go to the original boot menu...
To make things worst i can only connect usb as storage...
Can anyone please identify my problem and make a step by step solution, as my knowlege on android phones is close to nothing :crying:

Did you do a full wipe (system, data, and cache) before flashing? Are you S-Off with AAHK or S-On with unlocked bootloader?

Yes, i did a full wipe before flashing...
I cant see if i´m S-ON or Off because i can´t go to the original boot menu, but i think its S-Off because the Rom that was in the phone before i messed with it was not the original

An unlocked bootloader with S-On still permits flashing of custom ROMs. Is your recovery updated? If not, do that.

The guide in post #7 of the guide in my signature is pretty clear. Read that. What is important to know is whether your phone is S-On bootloader unlocked or S-Off. Since you didn't hang on the boot splash when you flashed ARHD, I'm guessing S-Off. But just to be safe: to find this information, reboot while holding power and volume-down. That is your bootloader, known as hboot. What does it say? Finally, my hunch is that you need to update your recovery. The guide has instructions for that, but basically, download the image to your computer and flash it from fastboot.
Oh, and you may need to install your drivers on your computer. Install HTC Sync from the HTC website.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824379. But if power and volume-down (you're using down, not up, right?) boot into CWM, sounds like a problem with your volume buttons.

When you're tired, it's best to get some sleep. Most mistakes happen when sleepy and tired (been there!) so I'd suggest a little shut-eye and continue then
Sounds to me like the problem will get solved pretty soon, just read the guides and don't rush things. If unsure, read the guide (for what-ever you are doing) a second or a third time and don't try doing many things at the same time (ie.don't try updating your radio, rom, & recovery all at the same time ).
Pretty much anything can be fixed as long as you got recovery working so don't stress too much. Best of luck and hope you get your phone working soon :good:
Still havn´t found a solution for my problem, but i think i´m on to something....
I think the problem with my phone is the boot.img.... i can´t flash it correctly...
Dont know what program to use or what file to download.... i tried openning a command list but i and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" as i´ve seen on other posts but i always get "this is not known as an internal or external command, etc...."
What can i doooooooooooooo?!!!! going crazy with this
Hey buddy, stay calm haha. I had the exact same problem. The problem is that although you tried to flash it, you nee to have the boot.img and some files including fastboot.exe. All of the files you need and how to flash the rom are in a guide by glevitan. You can just google it.

You need to type fastboot from the cmd.

already did but it wont recognize the command
Then your drivers aren't working. Uninstall and reinstall with the phone unplugged.
