Im actually on Deck's, but when I was using CM7 I had the same problem, and Deck is a fork... so yea.
Anyways, on most roms I simply flash a zip and then boom, I have a boot animation. For whatever reason on Deck's\CM7 however, it doesn't change and it stays the custom one made for the rom. Is this something cyanogenmod purposely did, or am I noob? Thanks!
Not all boot animations are flashable, they normally say if they are.
Take the bootanimaiton.zip that you want and:
A- adb push it to /system/media
B- use root explorer and move it to /system/media
Actually, the best place to put it on CyanogenMod is /data/local/, that way it'll be there even after you upgrade your phone's software (ie, from 7.0.2.1 to 7.0.3.1).
I appreciate both of your replies, still having odd issues. The zip is flashable... i have flashed it on other roms, yet when i flash it on CM the boot animation doesn't actually change. If I move the file to /data/local or /system/media, it does in fact change my boot animation, but it's not full screen - and the animation is definitely full screen when I flash it on other roms. Any ideas?

I have really hosed my phone and have no idea what is going on. So I have been playing around with the puzzle lock mod and deodexed theme for a couple of days. So today I flashed the blue puzzle lock mod to check it out again. Than I made a few image changes to the theme I was using. Flashed it and it won't boot up. Kept saying force closed on google search and a whole bunch of other apps. So I wiped everything dalvik and all. odined the deodexed file again and applied the theme I was using yesterday before any changes. Same thing. So I repeated the process clearing cache formatting sdcard. I tried everything. I should meantion that the phone works fine before I apply the theme. So I odin stock ec05, rooted and applied the theme I have been using for months and it does the same thing. At some point it stopped force closing and just wouldn't boot past the samsung logo. Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on and how to get this fixed?

You didn't restore any backups after rooting?
Nope. Nothing. I have tried 20 times at least. I just tried a new cable also.
It sounds like that a update hosed the theme. Was there a update to say your launcher? Sorry all I got
No updates. I am using ODIN to put a clean system on. It boots and everything works fine. I boot into clockwork and apply the theme zip. Same one I have been using for months that has always worked. And it won't boot. I just don't get it. I thought ODIN was supposed to wipe the phone clean. If that is so than what is going on?

What root method did you use and is that the same as you had? Did you need to flash a custom kernel first before the theme?
I used the one click root, same one I have always used. I have used the odexed prerooted EC05 and the deodexed prerooted EC05 also. None of them work. No kernels. All stock.

Don't most themes require a custom kernel for things like the boot animation and such?
Not for basic themes. I am not using boot images or anything special. Just image changes mainly. I have never used a custom Kernel. This just doesn't make any sense.

Nope. Didn't make any app changes. And I have tried old themes that I have used before any changes and they don't work.

I would try flashing a custom kernel and see if they work then.
I will try that but like I said I have never used a custom kernel and have never had a problem. I am about to flash the simply-blue-mod-6lockscreens.zip file again to make sure I am not losing my mind. I flashed that file yesterday and earlier today without problems. I am beginning to think something is wrong with the nand or something very serious. I don't know much about this though so I am really lost.
Doesn't ODIN wipe out the nand? If not is there a way to format it?

It may be a bad Odin flash. You could try again and use the .pit and repartition.
I have ODIN'ed more the 20 times now. It looks like it is permissions. I tried fix permissions before but maybe I didn't follow the right sequence or maybe it just took more than once. This time I wiped 3x everything, fixed perms, odin, let boot and sit for a while, boot to cwm and apply theme zip, reboot and it loaded. I am going to try again with the current theme.

Cool. I am just now having a "fix permissions" discussion with another beta tester.
It sounds like odin is working fine and it's the theme that is causing the issue. If you had it working before with that specific combination of firmware+theme and you know it should be working, then it may be the recovery format... What CWM recovery are you using? Is it converting to EXT4, if so is the theme package compatible? I'd recommend using the latest version (if not already) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13746457&postcount=1
it doesn't force EXT4 or RFS. Best of luck.
Using 2.5 same as always. Not on ext4. Something is just not right. It is doing it again. I am not sure what is going on.
WTF. Now I think there is some conspiracy by maddoggin to take over all epics . I can flash simply-blue-mod-6lockscreens.zip with no problem. And if I flash a theme that doesn't work after flashing his theme it works. I could see that in some strange deodexed thing but I have flashed back to stock odex and can't get my odex theme to work either, which has always worked. I am about to go nuts over here.
So, I've been looking at kernels to flash (stock ec05) and reading around on the different kernels, and I'm wondering if any of them work with a stock (rooted) rom. I used the ReRFS to get back to stock.
I've tried the syndicate kernel and got an infinite boot loop (tried several times)... Was barely able to get back.
I don't mind the stock interface (touchwiz), I would just like to be able to get the processor to 1.2ghz. Do any of the kernels work well with stock?
[edit] The only thing keeping me from staying on the custom roms is they all FC when I try to edit a contacts ringtone. I've tried pushing myfiles.apk (several myfiles.apk's from multiple sources), but it won't install. But like I said, I really don't mind the stock interface anyway.

Yes, Genocide. Also for your boot animation problem you pm'd me about, use this boot cleaner to get rid of the stock animation, then you can flash a custom boot animation.

I'm good with the simple stuff after blowing my phone up many times starting out. Just trying to give back to the community that helped me. Enjoy.
So it looks like I need to use the older cwm2 to use this kernel?
[edit] just in case someone else is wondering this as well. Use the older oneclickroot 2.5.5 if you're on stock. There's a bug (that is known) if you're on a stock that is not deodexed and uses ext4. Since the older cwm doesn't convert to ext4 we're good to go

I too am in the same situation. Can you post the steps with links?
As I understand it, the steps are:
1) Root, run clockworkmod
2) Run boot cleaner
3) Flash custom boot animation
4) Flash custom kernel
Is that right?
So, I know how to do all the steps except #3. Where can I find a custom boot animation? Please help!

I've tried, Ace, syndicate, another one that I can't remember the name of.
I did the normal process. Wipe factory 3x, then wipe cache 3x, and wipe dalv cache 3x, and install (tried a few times wiping dalv cache after the install, which is what we did on the heroc, as well)
Impaler told me to push myfiles.apk but it won't install. Tried the myfiles.apk from multiple rom sources.

I'll post results here in a bit
So when trying to move the file to system/app it tells me I don't have permission. (but i am rooted, and I know this because OC widget requested and was granted SU)
I've tried 2 different file browsing apps, and even tried copying it directly there via wifi. None of which will let me copy the myfiles.apk into system/app

What are you using to move it? Root explorer automatically makes it read/write. You can use ES File Explorer from the market but you have to go into settings and enable root and write functions.

That's the app I use. Didn't know about the setting... Just moved the file there and rebooting. I really hope this allows me to change individual ringtones. If so, then I have no reason to stay with stock =)
Well, myfiles.apk is now in system/app and I rebooted the phone (also tried a shutdown), but still no luck. I still get a FC when assigning an individual ringtone :/
Buuut, I may be able to assign ringtones from the music player, and not the edit contact page. I'll try that

Samsung Galaxy S III
I'm on Omega v13 ROM and Siyah-s3-v1.5 kernel.
Android version: 4.0.4
I downloaded a boot animation and saved the bootanimation.zip in < System/Media > and deleted the default boot animation from < Data/Local > (also tried placing the zip in data local too).
I set my boot zip with all the permissions.
I reboot my device and the boot animation is still the default one .
While looking in the system media folder I noticed files "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg", I cant find on the internet what these files are, are they the default boot animation? What are they?
I'm not sure where I have gone wrong, please could someone experienced help me, i'm a newby at this lol.
Thanks,
Danny K
Bootanimation zip do you have a kernel that supports bootanimation zip files .
bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg", I cant find on the internet what these files are, are they the default boot animation? What are they?
Default Samsung boot animation files .QMG format .
jje
As far as I can tell, Siyah supports custom boot animation.
From what I can find on the internet
http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/06/20/how-to-install-custom-kernel-on-samsung-galaxy-s3/ - this post suggests it should work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818975 - that dosnt really answer the question.
Ask the dev you are getting these custom boots from .
Its always been on SGS1 and 2 kernel supports boot zip yes place bootzip in relevant location that will then replace the stock Boot QMG files from running .
Alternative is to pay a lot of money for a QMG editor .

Custom Bootanimations Collection + How To Install
---
hi there,
ive made two cwm flash zip's that can do the job for you.. it requires busybox, but as you stated that youre using omega v13, you should have that already..
copy your bootanimation.zip to /data/local or /system/media..
boot into cwm, flash CWM_CustomBootanimation_Enable.zip and reboot to see changes take effect..
[--EDIT: IGNORE THIS!--
!!!THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! Dont ever flash the CWM_CustomBootanimation_Enable.zip more than once, or it will overwrite the backup file, and you cant get the stock booanimation back..
--/EDIT: IGNORE THIS!--]
if you want the stock bootanimation again or there is something wrong with the animation (bootloop, etc..), just flash the CWM_CustomBootanimation_Disable.zip ... or you can use adb to delete/replace the bootanimation.zip with a working one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31756526&postcount=50 .. thanks to Kryten2k35, for pointing it out.
if ive helped, hit thanks
EDIT: updated the flashable-zips, so that it dosent matter how many times you flash, it will still keep the backup created at first flash..
EDIT2: Remember to get the disable-zip file too! if you end up with a bootloop because of a bad animation, you can just flash the disable-zip, replace the non-working bootanimation with a working one, and flash the enable-zip again... so its a good thing to have both on the device, when trying out animations..
EDIT3: the enable and disable flashable zips works on stock roms, just tested it.. the only thing that is required for it too work, is cf-root w/ cwm, and busybox installed.. it also works on Jellybean roms, but its worth to mention that loopable bootanimations will NOT work on ICS, only on JB.. if you use a looped animation on ICS you will get a bootloop, but on JB it will pass through the bootup..

Thats a problem with your animation.. Inside the bootanimation.zip there is desc.txt file.. Open that, and where it says: p 0 0 part0... Or something like that, change it to p 1 0 part0... If there are more parts, change those too.
The first digit - is how many times that part should be played (0 means infinite/forever)
The last digit - is the delay before the animation begins to play, in milliseconds.
Part0 - is the folder with the animation

Have you changed anything before running my enable-flash-zip? in that case, what have you changed?
Have you tried open the bootanimation.zip with winrar / 7zip or something similar? If so, there should be a file named "desc.txt" and at least one folder usally called part0..
You could try flash omega again, and then flash my enable-zip, and copy bootanimation.zip to /data/local...
But try send the link to the bootanimation that youve got, and i can test it for you..

Yeah thats what i did, i looked at each desc file and they all seemed pretty much the same.
I noticed my battery was going down faster with this root and kernel on so im back on stock now.
I cant link it, its from Rom Tool Box Pro collection of boot animations. Theres a free app of it too if you dont have it. (from play store)
Im guessing it was the rom/kernel that wouldnt let it work properly.
Thanks for helping though

If it is 0 try change it to 1..
You might check post #13 in this thread so that you can compare..
Ok thanks to you.
Yes there was a 0 because the start sequence takes longer for other phones, it should be play the second folder until it is launched.

Do I need an alternate kernel to use the custom boot animation?
I am still on stock-rom and kernel.
Update: No, I dont. Tried it today and the bootanimation.zip in this thread does work, but others from here: hxxp://androidbootanimation.com/category/1280x720-boot-animations/ dont (black screen only).
I tried to convert the *.png to *.jpeg from the Nexus-Animation, but no change
I tried to install a custom boot animation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJopFQqgjQw <-- This one, to be exact. (The dark one with no text)
Anyways, I installed it using ROM Toolbox, and rebooted. It got about 3 seconds into the animation, and froze. It stayed like that forever. So, I decided to shut down, and try again. Nothing. I even tried wiping the Cache partition. Still nothing. I have a backup of the original animation.
I have no idea how to delete the current animation, and go back to the old one. It won't even let me access my device. Is there any way to fix this using ADB or fastboot? (Or maybe a flashable animation ZIP) Thanks.

can you get into recovery if so have you got a backup or a rom on phone just flash that will fix
I can get into recovery just fine. The problem is, I don't have an old backup to work off of. I might just have to backup my data using ADB, and factory reset. I would not like to do this, so if you know where ROM Toolbox stores installed boot animations, that would be great.
