Hello,
Long time lurker, not much of a poster.
Anyway - I was wondering if there are any guides or if anyone could give me some pointers on how to create a deodexed version of stock ROM?
What kind of effort is required to accomplish this?
Thank you in advance.

I've started looking into using dsixda's Android Kitchen to accomplish this. Will this method work? I'll report back after I play around with it some.

yes. it works fine. that's what most people use. there are stock deodexed versions out already. no need to repeat what has already been done unless you just want to learn.

Hi
I am locked on Three and have issues with storage (using about 3GB but tells me i am using 24GB) and I understand that the update to 1.29 should resolve this.
I have been reading around and trying to figure out the safest and simplest way to do this but I must admit to feeling a bit overwhelemed with the different options and possible steps.
I have never rooted a phone before (if that is what I need to do) and would appreciate it if someone could advise what the minimum is I need to do to allow we to get updates without relying on Three?
Thanks
I guess your best bet is to root it and flash a custom ROM.

Use Joe's link to root it. I can personally recommend you ARHD as the ROM.

Hey, I've been flashing roms for about 2 years now and just recently registered an account on XDA. I've been interested in making roms myself since the day I flashed my first rom (WeaponG2x) but could never figure out how exactly to go about doing so. I tried dsixda's kitchen but it didn't work for me so I'm wondering if any of the devs here can tell me what exactly I need to know to make a rom, where to start, and any tips they might have that could be useful to someone like me. A big thanks to anyone who can help, any and all info is appreciated.
Edit: Nvm, I find out you can only do it on mac and linux and I'm running windows.

You can do it on windows. It's called cygwin. And I recommend dsixda kitchen. For doing it with just scripts is very challenging for novice users.

I have done a bit of searching using Google and the good ol' search here in XDA, but dont seem to be
making much progress on figuring out how to make a flashable .zip from an Odin firmware.
Can anyone lend me a hand in finding a tutorial or guide possibly?
Cheers!

Not sure. If it wasn't for the locked bootloader I'd already have one. I am waiting to see if the devs can get it unlocked.
I use and like the cleanbean ROM, but recently I've been constantly prompted to update to a newer version of android. I want to know if this would have a bad affect on the ROM.

To update official software, you need to be on stock software, unrooted, with stock recovery What version of Jelly Bean is your CleanBean ROM based on?DO NOT take any updates while rooted or on custom ROMs.
Yeah don't ever take official OTAs while rooted/on a different rom other than stock. Hell i never even take an ota for the rom that I'm on, i always do things myself to ensure everything works right. Your build.prop needs to be updated to trick the OTA update, check the developer's thread to see if he posted one for you to flash

Okay the for the help.
Hello I was looking around for a solution for this myself and came across your thread. Did you happen to find one? If not I'll keep looking and could let you know if I find one. Thank you.

Please refer to this thread courtesy of CNexus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2209418
It has all the answers to your questions regarding ota updates (he even made a guide on how to edit your build.prop yourself!)
Be careful when editing your build.prop though, I'm sure CNexus includes this in his guide but just in case, make a copy of it and store it somewhere safe like an external sd or your computer before you edit it. Good luck! Also be sure to hit that "thanks" button, i find myself thanking almost all his posts

Thank You Sevenpioverthree. I will definitely give it a look. Still learning a lot around here and learning one thing leads to learning another. Thanks again!

Can one of you post a patched version of the cleanbean ROM with the modified file? I'm afraid to modify system files myself.

I wouldn't be too afraid. Just be as careful as you can be. I believe editing the build.prop is pretty harmless so long as you keep a copy of the original somewhere. You should do it yourself! You'll feel awesome knowing you took another step and got your hands a little dirtier and have 1 less thing to have to depend on someone else for

Well we don't have to warry about that any more since my phone crashed and I forgot to backup that ROM so I'm back on cm11, but no one else had a thread answering this question so I hope it helps others.
Thank you for your time.
First of all I have been rooting and unlocking many android devices and variants for years now. I have had some amazing success at it as I am pretty good at reading and following directions. I have decompiled and made some small mods to different roms, edited build.prop files. I am well versed in adb and fastboot commands as well as using odin and heimdall. i know how to record and read logcats.
That said I have a bootloader unlocked dev edition vzw s5, and would like to try my hand at fully porting a rom. Specifically from a GSM s5 to Verizon CDMA. Once I get it functional on MY device i would then like to mod it to be safestrap flashable for those that dont have dev edition verizon s5's. I should also mention i have the dev's blessing to do this and if i share it i will make sure first and foremost to give the original dev credit.
The problem is all the guides i find, even on here, seem to be outdated and dont quite work all the way. So if someone could point me to a good CURRENT (android 5.0 and up) guide for this or maybe guide me a little through the process, I would be eternally gratefull and would include whoever helps (and there donation links) in the credits if i share the finished rom.
Again thank you in advance for your time and consideration, if it weren't for the community here at xda the entire android world would be a much more different and boring place.
I am looking to bring the maverick s6 v4.5 to the Verizon s5. It is already available for every other variant

Hi there, i was wondering, a re e you gonna release that rom if you got it working? And could you share your process on converting the radio stuff? Ive been looking into doing the same with my sprint galaxy s5 (uses same technology to connect to the cell towers) but have been in the same situation as you. Thanks.

Are familiar with decompiling and rebuilding apks, modding the build.prop, framework-res and rebuilding roms?

Yes to everything ecxpet for the building apks part lol. Yeah feel free to write out a how to guide on doing it, because there are probably people out there who would love that, including me! And i think there might also be someone who will create a script thatll do it automatically, Depending on what the process is.
