Thank you for your time.
First of all I have been rooting and unlocking many android devices and variants for years now. I have had some amazing success at it as I am pretty good at reading and following directions. I have decompiled and made some small mods to different roms, edited build.prop files. I am well versed in adb and fastboot commands as well as using odin and heimdall. i know how to record and read logcats.
That said I have a bootloader unlocked dev edition vzw s5, and would like to try my hand at fully porting a rom. Specifically from a GSM s5 to Verizon CDMA. Once I get it functional on MY device i would then like to mod it to be safestrap flashable for those that dont have dev edition verizon s5's. I should also mention i have the dev's blessing to do this and if i share it i will make sure first and foremost to give the original dev credit.
The problem is all the guides i find, even on here, seem to be outdated and dont quite work all the way. So if someone could point me to a good CURRENT (android 5.0 and up) guide for this or maybe guide me a little through the process, I would be eternally gratefull and would include whoever helps (and there donation links) in the credits if i share the finished rom.
Again thank you in advance for your time and consideration, if it weren't for the community here at xda the entire android world would be a much more different and boring place.
I am looking to bring the maverick s6 v4.5 to the Verizon s5. It is already available for every other variant

Hi there, i was wondering, a re e you gonna release that rom if you got it working? And could you share your process on converting the radio stuff? Ive been looking into doing the same with my sprint galaxy s5 (uses same technology to connect to the cell towers) but have been in the same situation as you. Thanks.

Yes to everything ecxpet for the building apks part lol. Yeah feel free to write out a how to guide on doing it, because there are probably people out there who would love that, including me! And i think there might also be someone who will create a script thatll do it automatically, Depending on what the process is.

I have recently upgraded my phone from a Droid Incredible to the Galaxy Nexus. While on the Incredible Conap created a cool app called "Change Carrier Name" V1.3 that automated the process of changing the carrier name. Thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960111
Would it be possible to do the same for the Galaxy Nexus? If the process could be automated it would sure beat editing the framework by hand.
Use Aokp it has what you're looking for.

Was hoping this could be accomplished without replacing the stock ROM with a custom one. Something like unlock and root stock ROM, install APK, run, rename, reboot and PRESTO new custom carrier name.

Changing carrier name on a odexed ROM is kind of difficult and very limited.
Even the thread you link says,
Currently only for AOSP roms such as cyanogenmod roms.

Yea but you need to either hex edit or decompile and edit with a xml editor. Just follow the instructions in the thread I linked to.

But if you do that, it'll probably alter your OTA ability in the future and will cause problems.
quick question, and pardon my ignorance, would changing the carrier name make it where techincally I could use the towers from other carriers and get a better signal in certain locations? Im not an amatuer when it comes to rooting and other forms of development but I've never thought about even looking into doing that? how well did it work when you did it on your incredible? Thanks in advance.

No. You'd be on the same network and same towers.
You're also on Verizon. So there is no way you're going to be able to use AT&T or T-Mobile's towers. Even if it was possible, it'd be illegal.
oh ok thanks for the clarification.

Sent from my 4g GUMMY Nexus
zephiK: Took your advice and installed AOKP ROM. Don't foresee going back to stock any time soon. Love AOKP in conjunction with Franco's Kernel. Carrier name change was a breeze. Loving the other features of this ROM as well. I would recommend it to anyone with a Galaxy Nexus.
i have the same question
in miui the carrier.apk will show the carrier in the upper left in statusbar
will that work with aosp crom on the nexus aswell?
i know i can change it in aokp, but its not shown in the statusbar..
With the SII, there were Threads on how to port Roms from the international to US version. I tried a few and was successful and I'm really not a programmer but willing to learn. Since there appears to be similarity between the Note 8 and 10.1 could a "how to" be developed to do this? Maybe its too hard and too involved, but thought I'd ask.

I cant say this will work for sure, as i dont have the device I cant say. But considering the similarities between devices, this is what you should do:
1. replace usr / vendor / bin / xbin from 8.0 to 10.1 rom
2. replace boot.img
3. logcat alot.

A little more to get you going: 7SV917532E125122K
Its great that we are working to get developers interested in the Note8.0. There are already many custom Roms out for the 10.1 and the Note II.
With the similar Hardware on both these devices I would hope we could find a way of porting some of these Roms to the Note 8.0. This would open up the options to Note 8.0 users dramatically. I have attempted to port but I don't have the skills needed. Can anybody with more knowledge be it the original developer or a more experienced person get behind this effort?

gl man if you get it before me (you prob will) let me know if i can help any. im experienced in porting roms from different chipsets so doing it for identical chipsets should be a walk in the park
Ok, so I downloaded Dr. Katan's MI6 ROM for the 7100 and with a touch of insanity installed it to my AT&T phone. IT BOOTED RIGHT UP!
All while using the stock 4.3 Kernel that came with it!
Whole ROM runs perfectly, I have WiFi and GPS and everything's great EXCEPT, no cell signal :crying: When I try to look at the APNs it says No Sim Card.
I flashed the AT&T modem again. That changed nothing.
So, I figured I'd follow a port guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40575946
It didn't work. Installs fine, but the phone just won't boot with it. Just sits there and vibrates occasionally with a black screen.
I figured since it's a 4.3 ROM, I should use a 4.3 base, so I used Beanstalk for AT&T (my daily driver, NOT a Touchwiz Rom).
Should I try it with the stock 4.1 Touchwiz ROM as the base? It seems counter-intuitive, but I could be wrong, as this is my first stab at this.
Since just the modem is the issue, is there one part of the porting that I should be paying extra attention to?
Unfortunately while typing this, I just discovered that the S-Pen isn't working either... It detects it's being removed/inserted, but it doesn't work on the screen.
I'm not seeing anything else on this topic other than "WHEN", "WHY NOT ME", and "THIS IS N7100 ONLY, IT'LL BRICK YOUR PHONE DON'T TOUCH IT GET AWAY FROM IT GO BACK TO AT&T"
Obviously it doesn't brick your phone and I don't want to until December if I can help it.

Not yet downloading now though, or attempting to... Then to figure out which way to flash it. Crazy I spent all day yesterday trying to port and flash different combo's of AOKP/CM 4.3 and N7100 4.3 messing with boot.img's and .co files and all that stuff, now this happens today, AWESOME! LoL
Hello fellow XDA members, I recently purchased a Le Pro 3 and a Le S3 during the flash sale and would like to use Cyanogenmod on my devices. I was wondering if anyone on this forum has ever ported a ROM before as I have not, and only know about the CM porting guide and opensource.le.com for the kernel source. If anyone has any tips or would like to assist me in porting CM13 to the Pro 3 please reply to this thread or PM me. Thanks, and let's hope LeEco releases the source soon!
Love to help but this isn't my department ????. But we should probably see more support in a couple more days once they start arriving here
Just out of curiousity, what exactly had you hoped to achieve with this post? If you're interested in porting, ideally you should at least be able to build a rom (for another pre-existing device)... and then you'll have to hunt down help on the CM forums and then eventually IRC.
Talking about this on XDA is pointless.

The purpose of my post was to see if anyone in the XDA community had experience porting a ROM to a new device, and if they'd be interested in helping me. I have read through a few guides and understanding building a ROM, but am struggling to find what I must "merge." From what I've found so far, I'll need to edit/merge the directories in /system/libs and edit the kernel?

No, it's far more complicated than that. You'll need a copy of the kernel for sure, but you'll also need a device definition. You can use the op3's device as a template, it's probably the best example of an msm8996 device you can have.
You really should be checking into the CM forums. CM people are pretty uppity about not supporting things on XDA. They also don't tend to help. Even as a developer I find it difficult sometimes to get their attention. Your best bet is to go to them if you want their help. Good luck.

Not a lot. I've identified the CAF tag the sources are based on and have been working to separate the relevant LeEco mods from the less relevant ones. I've also been attempting to remove the leeco specific things from the drivers that i'm keeping since they're a horrible mess and CM won't be able to make use of them anyway. I've also been finding the appropriate open versions of the drivers and taking the latest ones instead.
The mods from LeEco seem to be a mess, the dmesg output I got from a user on the chinese model (the x720) had segfaults from the modifications just after boot. The logcats are so full of errors I was unable to get the user to send me a full logcat from boot.
Interestingly enough, the chinese system rom looks like it came from a Le Max2. This makes sense since it's LeEco's first msm8996 device, and the Le Pro3 is the second one. I imagine the kernel sources work across a number of the 8996's.
Can you send me the link to where you got the open drivers.

But my problem is not the rom itself, is the kernel. I'm wanting to learn to mod and compile kernel just for this, as Nova kernel is awful to tweak.
