Flashing and backing up and stock

I made a nandroid backup in clockwork of the stock rom. Since then I went to a custom rom. I was wondering if I could restore the backup while on a custom rom or if I have to go back to stock and then restore it.
2. How would I get back to stock if I needed to?
Thanks
Sent from my GNex running gummy v0.7.0
You can boot into cwm from your custom rom and use it to restore the nandroid backup which will take you back into the rom as it was when you backed it up.
I suggest you make a nandroid of your current setup before hand - one can never have too many backups!

[Q] AOSP JB Question - need help!

I have tried and tried to flash stock EL29 with Mobile Odin on Alpha5 of AOSP JB, and it doesn't work. Can I just flash an EL29 rom in CWM? I want to go back to GB.
P.S. I'm on a Mac
When I go back to GB, I Odin back to the EL26 recovery that I installed JB from, and then restore the nandroid backup I made of my original GB ROM. Then I'm back to what I had before I started; Calk's 3.0 GB ROM and Rogue kernel and CWM recovery in my case.

Ok dont have all the info on what you are doing but going to assume that your trying to put a jb rom on and there's only a couple. The assuming part is which one your trying to do. You can flash your gb kernel back thru cwm. As for the back up depending on what your choosing to restore meaning if you do a full restore it will put your old rom back on that you previously had. I have put the jb rom on my phone and left it the way it came with out changing the kernel and have no issues I do have my phone flashed to another carrier so I do have to figure out how to get data working on it. But other than that it works flawlessly.

[Q] CWM Restore Problem

I installed cm10 did not like it so i restored to my stock rom which i had a back up of in CWM. Stock samsung restored fine but i try to go into CWM and it is not there anymore and goes into stock recovery mod. Did CWM get deleted and do I have to reinstall CWM ?
Thanks !
Stock ROM = stock recovery...wonder if u lost ROOT as well?
if so Root and re-install CWM or TWRP.
I have my stock ROM backed up also, been thinking of going back to ICS for a bit and trying to find a rooted,de-bloated stock Rogers ROM in flashable ZIP format so I dont have to do the whole process again lol....no luck yet

need help with backing up stock rom

dear all members
Im running on stock at&t kitkat rom but i would like to install custom rom. Do i have to backup my stock rom just in case if i ever need to go back to stock rom and how to i back it up? is it a necessary to backup my stock rom or there is no such thing?
any help is greatly appreciated
sorry for my funny question, im still pretty new to this android community
You don't have to back it up. You can fully restore to stock without a backup! I just back up my apps with Titanium Backup Pro.
You will want to back up your EFS data in case some ROM botches your radio.
You CAN backup your stock ROM... Sorta. If you install cwm, you can back up what's there. BUT I recommend disabling updates (freeze the update app) if you have stock w/cwm because any stock updates will boot loop you.

Hi
Thank u for taking ur time to answer my question.
I just want to back up the stock rom just In case custom rom is not a long term for me and want to go back to stock.
Do I need an external micro sd card in order to back up the stock rom or back it up to my pc or my internal storage on my phone? If I'm not mistaken flashing custom rom will wipe everything from internal storage of the device?
I have 1gb micro sd card for now, would it be enough storage to back up the stock rom?
Sorry for my noobish questions
You can back up to the internal memory of the phone. You can't make a true backup of the stock ROM because you will have cwm boot loader. And cwm will break any future updates of the stock ROM.
I think you'd need more than 1GB. At LEAST a 4gb. I'd grab a 16gb class 10 if you don't have one. They're pretty cheap on newegg.
A proper backup of stock will be acquiring all the tools to restore your phone back to stock. And backing up all your apps + data.
