Yes sort of but how would I do that?

Well.. I'm using a Nokia phone so I don't know how yours work, but in my phone there are 2 options:
a) Click new message then press options and send business card
b) At the contacts list press options and send business card
I hope this helps

I did some quick research and checked the SMS options. I think if you need to send a contact card you'll need to use a third party app from the play store. Did you have that function before without a third party app?

Ahh. I see. That's not stock AOSP. Sense usually adds features to their apps.
Try go SMS or handcent. I say check go first due to the issue with handcent on JB on this phone.

Send contact info from within SMS

Is anyone else annoyed that you can't send a contact from the stock SMS app? I love the standard SMS but yet have to have a third party SMS app installed just for this purpose. From the stock SMS you can attach a few things but not a contact. And even from the phone app you can send but through email...not SMS.
Nothing major...just felt like griping about something I guess.
On a side note android keeps getting better and better. I don't see myself even going back to a non nexus phone!

I totally agree it's silly this is not factory android option. I can tell this is a general complaint and you weren't really looking for an app, but check this out:
share contracts via sms
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=shareContacts.NS.com
it's not really an "app" it just adds the menu option to share contracts thru messaging app. you still use stock messaging. I have used this since froyo days. it's super lightweight, you'll hardly notice it's even there...

Yup, I've been shocked time and time again that it hasn't already been added since I first started using Android with Froyo.
Which is weird if you've been using dumbphones for the last 15 years I think most of them could do this.

I don't think that this is accepted by my carrier and there must be an option to do so without using any external apps.
Thanks for your help and waiting for others to share

So what is your carrier? Vodafone or Etisalat or Mobinil ?? All support it
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Just by pressing once space. Is the only way I found

Guess I've never been able to send an empty SMS with any phone. Other then a space with no letters.
Your ONLY option is to use a third party app like Handcent or GOSMS. No way to do it on the stock messaging app
Use emoji keyboard. . The emoticons don't get sent. ..only empty messages get sent. ..lol
I am on omega v9 rom. ..emoji keyboard is inbuilt
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)

But you do have to input an emoticon first, right? Whether it gets sent or not, is not the issue. The OP needs a Null message to use his service provider's features like checking balance etc. A space, an unsent emoticon is not a Null message.
Thanks everyone for your replies and I tried the suggestion of sending a message that contains only a space and managed to participate in the offers successfully
Thanks for your help and please all accept my sincere regards. You truly helped me

Why would you need a third party app when the stock app can do the job?
Sent from my GT-I9082 using Tapatalk 2
3rd party apps usually have features not found in the stock app. Go sms pro for example, has many themes and a private box which filters messages from selected contacts and requires a password to access.

I use the stock sms program, it works fine and protecting it with smart app protector ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sp.protector.free&hl=en )
Yes

Yes I need, because the stock app, have a option to request a report of a successful message sent, but, he does a notification when you receive the report, Most app just put a sign in the message, indicating that was successful sent.
I Tried another applications like Message + and Go Sms Pro, but they always sent using SIM Card 1.
Go sms support dual sim
for those who come here from google search.
Now Go SMS pro does support dual sim phone, include grand. I dont really like go sms, but it seems go sms the only app does the function

Best SMS app

I've been using the stock app for SMS messaging on my Nexus 4 for the last year. Am I missing out? Is there something better? If its better, why?
Thanks,
Jon
8sms download it on play store. It's almost the same as stock messaging app but with added features such as quick reply option by cm and inverted messaging ui.

Well first i think this is the wrong place to put this, but ok.
Second, you have a lot, try Go SMS pro or Textra sms, is cool.
In the last days i´m using mysms , is cool , and you can send sms via your pc.
But if anyone know any better than this ones please tell us

8sms ftw!
If I use any of these apps, does it alter any of your data? i.e. can I use it, stop using it and there messages are still there but default back to the stock app?
Try Hello from the Play Store.

8sms (Stock Messaging, KitKat) :highfive:
8sms hands down.
I used to flash that app which was then called as the Modded mms.apk. Now it is available even for unrooted users on the Play Store. Amazing app.
Handcent SMS is great, fully customizable

Does 8sms have regular green android Smileys?

Yes, afaik, you just have to install the new msg app and they will carry over the data. Unless you cleaned flashed your rom then you'll have to back up the xml. But you can do that with Titanium Backup or any other messaging backup app.

Not sure where you live, but SMS is the primary messaging tool in the US. Carrier agnostic, preloaded on every phone, and generally available in no-cost unlimited plans.
