[Q] About porting other roms - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to port ROMs from devices such as Nexus devices?? (disregarding screen density issues)
I think it's time to try porting new operating systems to our device such as Mozilla Boot to Gecko project (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox_OS/Porting) and Titazen (https://www.tizen.org). What do you think?? :silly:

This might help some: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32080012

Thanks for the reply. I came across that thread but it seems we need to have at least one compiled ROM for our device from the same OS for that to work. Isn't it?

Quite a few use TWA_priv's as a base

Good luck with this. I will be following even though I dont have any interest in having Ubuntu on my phone unless maybe in a dual boot function.
Well eventually thats what im shooting for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889433 <-- this is the thread for the hd2
but eventually once a stable build is created i want to have dual boot feature so.
Hoping the best for this with dual boot, thanks in advance for your efforts

This will be fully native right? As opposed to ones that use a vnc server/client?
Yes this will be fully native and evenually dual boot. Once a stable build is ready for release

Erm... "kernel"
why just because you can? i will follow this for knowledge but don't see the point ... isnt ubuntu making a moblie version of the os themselves with a possible hardware phone too? i dont think it really has a place ... never the less i wish you good luck
ubuntu would be best for tablets not phone imo
I'm not putting a desktop version of Ubuntu on the phones. And yes but its based on android GUI and android code. I am doing this because it becomes an option..... something different . And I had an hd2 the idea itself and the actual build was pretty interesting. But think about a mobile true Linux device. All the possabilities

Also I want to make point of this Ubuntu mobile OS will be similar to android with an effing unity interface. Personally I hate the unity interface. By porting Linux Ubuntu this opens the doors for things like idk for ex programming custom gui's. Ha aha if somebody wishes a true mobile hacking unit lol not that I support this fashion of hacking. But again its DIFFERENT. But all in due tine need to get through my exams

If I can propose something, please have the RTL8187 module already built in with USB host active!
Can't wait to see development!!!!
If you need beta testers let me know! I'm more than happy to help with this project.
Awesome idea USB functionality I already incorporated and I will let everyone know on a beta

Also, provide kernel source and headers so if anyone who wants to build new modules/drivers it will be easier!
I would look at Backtrack-ARM too. I am running it in chroot but having native would be awesome! If we can find elite engineers to convert our broadcom wifi and make it monitor/injection working would be like the n900 but with way more power and bigger/better screen for mobile pentesting!

Is Amazon planning on updating KF to ICS?

I know that hashcode and others have already ported ICS, but does anyone know if we are getting an official build of ICS from Amazon?

Doubt it. Amazon will want to deliver ICS on a 2nd generation device (ahem, the possible 10" Kindle Fire 2)
Sent from a blaze of amazon using Tapatalk
if they do, I bet they use hashcodes kernel lol

Amazon will save updates like that for next Gen kindles and will keep their UI the same and keep it locked to only the amazon app store because that is where they make money. Amazon actually lost money on kindle fires they are sold for 199 though cost like 203 to make
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
it won't be ICS it'll be a gnarly inbred forked version of whatever.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
I don't think so because if they port ICS to the kindle fire,it may hurt the kindle fire 2 sales and anyway I think 3rd party roms are the best and hascode kernel is the best.Who cares about official ICS when you have got gederom and other roms that are better than stock ICS.There ui is not great because it makes the kindle fire feel like a kindle not a great Android tablet.
Probably not. But if you want ICS, give gedeROM a try.

[ROM][WIP] JellyBean 4.1 for Kindle Fire

Hey, devs and users!
I'm currently working on a JellyBean 4.1 early port for the kindle fire. I am starting work today, and probably going to have an unstable release on the 6th or 7th. I'm going to try and use this ROM as a base ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737849) and port it through dsixda's Android Kitchen. Please post any suggestions or comments below. Thanks!
Current Status:
Starting build [done]
Starting to compile and tweak [done]
Tweaking system components and fixing build.prop [done, but i decided to leave the build.prop alone]
Signing [done]
ROM Complete
Uploading to file sharing website [done]
ROM online [download is below]
The Iconia based ROM will be started on soon! For now, i am awaiting bug reports

[Support has ended and this ROM has officialy closed]
UPDATE: I am planning on making 2 builds. One based on the Galaxy Nexus ROM, and another based on a JellyBean ROM ported for tablets. I'm guessing I can find a JellyBean ROM made for an Acer Iconia 7", then tweak it from there. Then, I will decide which one works better, and compile a unstable beta for the public. So far, so good. And thanks for the support!
UPDATE: Confirmed that Galaxy Nexus port doesnt work for Android Kitchen porting method. I will try the Iconia pre-ported ROM and see if that works.

Features:
-Android 4.1
-Deodexed
-Stock 4.1
-Speeded up mounting
Thanks to bigxie, for his base JellyBean Galaxy Nexus ROM!
Enjoy and report bugs in this thread

yummmm i've got a Nexus 7 on pre-order but yummmm. would love to see JB even in unstable (but hopefully somewhat usable) form on the KF before the Nexus 7 even starts shipping. thanks for the effort!
Thread moved from Android Development to General section.
Unless a Rom is available, it doesn't belong in the Android Development sub-forum.
OP, pm me once downloads are available & I'll move back to Android Development

Porting stock ROM from other Kindle Fires?

Would it be possible to port the stock ROM from the Kindle Fire 2nd Gen to the 1st gen kindle fire? Honestly there's not much difference between the two.. Just upgraded hardware.

I've been thinking that. Why not ask ichigo? He is good at porting and has a kf2.
Sent from my XT610 using Tapatalk 2
We've had a discussion about this already. Due to hardware issues and other incompatibility issues, it has long been determined its completely unsafe and impossiable to get the Stock KF2 OS in the KF1.

Likelihood of Fire 8.9 getting a 4.4 rom

So I was gonna pick up a KF HD 8.9 to play with and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts of the likelihood that someone will make a 'good' kitkat rom.
cheers

I suppose it is possible but I think at the moment the devs are focusing more on rooting and cracking the bootloader of the new Kindle devices.
I'm guessing no way

yeah, 4.4 may run faster than 4.3 on some devices which has 1G RAM like KFHD, otherwise, I dont think we need to upgrade to 4.4.
i've read that n2aos will eventually come out with one. but who knows when
Google says that Galaxy Nexus will not gonna be able to upgrade to 4.4 due to OMAP processor and KFHD is also a OMAP processor device, so ......

At the risk of getting flamed for a dumb noob question, does this thread imply that there is a stock JB ROM for the Fire 8.9" HD?
I've doing my best to find stuff for myself, but it's not that easy being green!
Not sure what the question is. There are custom ROM's for the 8.9 that's last years model. There is nothing yet for the 2013 Kindle's yet no matter the model.

Now I'm confused, according to Wikipedia there is only one version of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9", released on November 20, 2012.

Well, yea that's right. The new model is HDX. Only the 7" had a 2013 production as well. So what is your question?

Thank you. My question is that I'm looking for a stock Android ROM for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with 4G (which I think may be called LTE?). I've found one thread, but there doesn't seem to be a working version.
