Most Stable Custom ROM?

Hi,
I have finally purchased a micro SD card and I am considering switching to one of the many optional custom ROMs available for our phone. There are a lot of great Dev's that have put in long hours to bring us these choices and I first off want to thank them for their hard work.
From my understanding a custom ROM can greatly improve battery life, speed and performance over what a stock ROM can give you. I also understand a lot of the Bloat ware has been removed as well and there are more customizable options in these ROMs.
However, the most important feature to me is stability since the phone I use is my daily driver. I will admit that the one thing I am impressed with the stock ROM is the stability. Everything on the phone works and works well.
Having said this, out of all the currently available custom ROMs, which is the most stable that can be used as my daily driver? I know this is a hobby and most ROMs are for testing, but which out of the bunch are the most stable and have everything working smoothly without tweaking or without needing additional updates?
I am new to this so I am ready to try something new and improved. However, I wouldn't be the type of person who would want to flash a new ROM, try it out and then flash something else. Kinda just want to update and stick with it.

I'm using Darkside Digital Warfare 2.5.1
I work always on call and my phone is very important. That one has the most balance in terms of battery life and performance.

I would suggest digital warfare v2.5.1. Close to stock, very stable, great battery life. Juggernaut is definitely more experimental (although still stable) but the undervolt doesn't play well sith some phones. Paradox and Blu-Ray are both heavily themed but otherwise stable. If you're looking for a stock ROM with better battery, go for digital warfare.
Any ics ROM at this point is definitely too experimental for your tastes, stay away if you want one flash and be done with it.

Thanks for the response. Yourself and linye have both suggested Digital Warfare. I have researched the ROM and it seems pretty stable. The only issue right now is how to download the ROM? I see the developer thederekjay has closed the thread and it doesn't look like the ROM is available on XDA anymore. Any ideas where else I could find this ROM? Thank you again.

Thank you very much. Since this will be my first time doing this I just wanted to confirm. When I download the DARKSIDE.DIGITAL.WARFARE_v2_TDJ.zip file, before placing it on my SD card and flashing I should rename the file as per below example:
DARKSIDE.DIGITAL.WARFARE_v2_TDJ-wipe-twmod.zip
This in essence will:
-wipe = A full wipe that is much more through and is HIGHLY suggested over any wipe options in recovery menu. It will also format partitions to EXT4 (NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE ALL USER DATA! DOESN'T TOUCH SD CARD/EMMC!)
-twmod = Installs a 5x4x5 modified TW Launcher. (See screen shot below)
It will also install the ROM as well?
Or is there something else I would need to do? Thanks again for all your help.

You got it. Just backup what you need to backup and flash that zip in cwm and you're good to go!

Darkside digital warfare works best for me. I underclock to 1.03 and get about a day or more with med use.

[Q] Questions regarding kernels and rom

Long time lurker, first time poster :3. Anyways, I have a few questions regarding the flashing of ROMs and kernels. I have been looking around for a nice ROM(s) or a kernel(s) to flash the t989. Currently I am running on rooted stock and want to mix it up a bit. I came across the Darkside X v1 Final kernel located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466283&page=44 .
Now the question is can I flash this kernel but retain the stock ROM?
- any advantages vs flashing kernel and a new ROM?
- disadvantages?
Is there anything that I should be concerned about, or pay special attention to before proceeding with this?

(1) Yes you can, just wipe cache and dalvik cache prior to flashing kernel
(2) Depends on what the kernel has to offer. I'm not super well informed on tdjs kernel but for one you get BLN support which is great. You also get performance and battery enhancements plus many other goodies.
(3) Not really, any kernel on these forums is better than stock so you're looking at nothing but advantages.
(4) As long as you follow the proper steps to installing a kernel you should be fine. Common sense is your friend. Once you flash a specific kernel you might want to look at under clocking and under vaulting to extend your battery life with minimal performance decrease.
BONUS: TDJ's Darkside ROM and Eugenes Streamline Kernel are the best for me. Great stability, battery and performance. Refer to my signature for links.

The best advice I can give is Back up your stock rom with rom manager and back your apps with titanium, after that you can flash flash any rom and take it on a test drive to see how it feels. If you see it's buggy you can go back to the stock you had to begin with like you never did a thing.
Personalty I tried most of the ICS roms an found bugs I just couldn't deal with in one way or another. I did find this ICS rom today

This has the leaked tmo kernel and radio making it almost the complete update we so deserve lol. anyway I put it on today and sofar all I could say is it is sweet no bugs this far and love the ICS......
Last advice is before flash do the darkside super wipe this does a better job then just wipe cache and dalvik cache and you dont lose the data you have backed up.
Oh also follow the directions from any rom to the tee to lessen the chance for problems

Thanks for the input guys. Right now, I would like to experiment with a new kernel before going full-blown with a ROM...I will likely do that later down the road.
Now, while I was reading up on the various kernels and their offerings, another question popped into my head. Will flashing the phone with a new kernel purge pre-existing applications and settings? I will be backing up regardless, but I just thought I'd ask.

Some noob questions about different kernels

Hey there, I'm still fairly new to the custom Android stuff and I had a question about ROMs that isn't too clear to me.
Let me start off by saying I have made a nandroid backup, and I have flashed ROMs before on my HTC One X, but I recently switched to the S III because I was unhappy with the < 200 MB of usable RAM.
I am currently looking into trying 2-3 ROMs, AOKP, TuchMi, and maybe CyanogenMod 10, mostly because I am unhappy with the stock battery life.
From what I have been able to gather, the kernels for AOKP and TouchWiz based ROMs are incompatible, and it is not recommended to mix them up.
Here are some of my basic questions:
1) TuchMi and AOKP come with kernels inide them, are they automatically installed when I flash the ROM?
1a) If they are not automatically installed, what happens if I mix up the ROM/kernel?
2) Does a nandroid backup also backup the Kernel?

If they already come with kernals then they will be automatically installed when flashing them in CWM recovery.
On my previous phone nandroid backups did not back up the kernal but on the S3 it looks like it may be backing up the kernal as it does state that it is making a backup of the boot image. My old phone never did receive official cwm so maybe this was a feature they added later.
Remember when changing kernals to ALWAYS wipe cache/dalvik cache before using a new kernal.

Yes kernels usually come with aokp and cm 10. tuch uses stock. During nandroids I believe that the kernel is backed up. I have flashed different ROMs including aokp, and then applying ktoonsez kernel and then restoring back to stock rooted with nandroid. Mixing ROMs and kernels can get ugly... sometimes unsupported also. Just make sure you make nandroid backups.
Try aokp and then ktoonsez' kernel. Wicked combo.
Also, what carrier are you with?

I am with AT&T currently, I will try the AOKP -> ktoonsez kernel tomorrow . Part of me still wants to use TuchMi though for the battery life and I will miss some of the Sense apps... mostly the Phone app.

Ah OK. I am with ATT also. Let me know if you need any assistance. The aokp ROM and toonsez kernel should get very nice battery stats. Mine is doing pretty well.

CM10 from rooted stock questions

I've been looking for answers but can't find info, I apologize if these are redundant
1. If I update to cm10 either task rom or cyanogen rom and kernel... I assume I can just revert to cwm backup without worry of losing imei ?
2. Once I update to cm10 / kernel... when there are NEW UPDATES can I just flash the updates without losing data/apps and having to reinstall or will I have to redo Config/apps/settings/data after each update??
3. Are the cm10 roms reliable and stable enough to be used as daily driver? I'm sick of stock battery life and SERIOUS LAG from touchwiz
4. How does the task cm10 rom compare to task ics rom? I tried the task ics rom but honestly found it too buggy for my liking...is the jb rooms more stable since more work has been put I to it??

1. You know what happens when you ass-u-me? There is always a risk.
2. You do not have to wipe data. Just cache and then fix permissions. Your settings will still be there. Unless the developer says you need a full wipe that is.
3, 4. Idk about CM10, I prefer Tasks JB AOKP. The ICS ROMS were abandoned because JB was released. I use it as a daily driver and the only issue I have is slight screen flickering which is fixed by disabling HW overlays.
Lastly, only bump your thread after 24 hours.

You don't lose CWM, nor update modem. There is no IMEI loss. You'd need full data wipe.

You will need to flash update and gapps each time. No data wipe needed.

No. I use CM9. I also have enriched CM9 ROM - Nostalgia 8.

AOKP in both versions was extremely buggy for me. Plus task is rough individual and getting support is nearly impossible.
SlimJB holds the hope, but it is still somewhat buggy. Try SlimJB or CM9 - they were least problematic.

Best kernel+ROM combo for my AT&T Galaxy S3

Recently i got the AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 I747 STOCK JELLY BEAN ON 4.1.1 from GALASXY S2 SKYROCKET (at&t) also but i need the best combo (kernel+ROM) but its hard to find one
here is what am looking for:-
- good, stable DATA/MOBILE NETWORK CONNECTION (MUST HAVE) IMPORTANT
- bloatware free
- fast/overclocking
- easy/not too complex that will fup my phone
- anything that i have not mentioned is relevant too
- other great features like Bravia engine, goo manager, extra features that make it more awsome
- cyanogenmod stable qualities (bug free) sleek, smooth, fast UI and transitions
any kind of idea is valid, open to every suggestion

If you are looking for a touchwiz ROM, go try S3Rx. If you are looking for a pure android based ROM, go for Task's AOKP. I think those are some of if not the best Roms of their kind.

That's for you to experiment and decide not everyone has the same experience on a rom.
Just make a backup of your current setup and start flashing away.

Trial and error.
I may be new here but I know enough, To tell you no one is going to answer your question. A Rom that works for one person is not necessarily the same Rom that will work for another. Flashing Rom's is about hopefully stability, if your lucky speed and battery life, but most importantly about customization. I just started flashing Roms and am still looking for the one I want. I'm sure as soon as I find it a new release will come out and I will get to start over again. As for Kernels I am not comfortable enough to delve into that yet...Good luck...

Best S3, non touchwiz ROM I have found is SlimBean. Not as flashy as some but rock solid/stable with the best battery life I have found so far. Like CM, it is backed by team of devs versus some roms that just have chefs that mix/match/blend features together.

i have been on that PATH as in trying different ROMS but once i tried several i completely fup my DATA/mobile network, i would text and call but my internet (not to be confused with WIFI) stopped working and yu know as a tech savvy guy yu gotta try everything little trick yu know to fix it but there was nothing
forced to use wifi until the day i bought the AT&T S3 and i have my data internet connection working again
i need a ROM that doesnt leave me with no DATA CONNECTION
restoring from nandroid backups helps and sometimes it might not work , other than CM which other ROMS THAT CAN KEEP UP WITH MY DATA CONNECTION

Thanks I think I found what I was lookin for and am currently running Synergy Rom 4.1.2 with Ziggy Kernel using ATT Galaxy S3 it's stable, fast great battery life so am keeping it .........

Glad to here it. I have not been brave enough to get into kernel flashing yet. Can you tell me was it a simple flash? How do you revert back to a stock kernel? I here there is a lot of tweaking to do with some kernels? Was Ziggy's pre-set?

You just flash it the same way you do with a ROM. Remember you wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing the kernel and if you dirty flash roms, you have to reflash the kernel each time because the stock kernel overwrites it. You revert back to stock kernel by flashing the ROM again or finding the kernel zip and flashing it separately. You can undervolt and overclock with a different kernel that allows it.
