[Q] Unlocked bootloader and lost phone memory.. HELP!! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, noob here. So, i wanted to do something new with my xperia PLAY and decided to unlock the bootloader without completely understanding what its for and the risks it came with. Basically, i wanted to use the jelly bean rom and went through some tutorials and unlocked the bootloader. But when i turned on the phone everything was gone! my contacts, messages, call log, etc! But everything in my SD card is still there but only seen when connected to the PC. The apps don't show up in my phone anymore!! My complete phone memory wiped out! Is there any way to get back or restore all my personal data?? PLEASE HELP!!

This did happen when I unlocked my bootloader aswell.
I think this is normal.

xperia play
i think you dont have the option to recover your lost data on the internal memory check out this thread it says when you unlock your bootloader This will wipe your internal storage (/data) but not your SD Card but try to do some research !!

Did you have your phone linked to your google account when you first bought your phone and set it up?If you did your contact's and some information is stored on google server's:good:

Whenever you unlock your biotloader it will always format internal data.

Can't you just make a nandroid backup, unlock the BL, then restore the backup?

Root question

So after enjoying the phone for a few days it's time to root it.. from what I've read it seems there is no way to root it without having to wipe data.. this would suck to have to wipe before being able to use TB and get a backup of my apps...
So am I reading this right or is there another way?

Use another backup app Mybackup, Ultimate backup...probably more...they don't need root as TB does

Rooting your phone does not wipe anything.
But you have to unlock the bootloader first before you can root, and that wipes everything on your phone, including anything you have saved on your "SD card". That's why I believe it's best, if you eventually intend to root, to at least unlock the bootloader as soon as you get home with your new Gnex. Before you waste any time setting it up.
Thanks for the info! I just assumed all backup programs needed root.. thanks again!

Yes exactly, I made that mistake as well not knowing unlocking the boot loader wipes everything.

[Q] Will flashing a new ROM wipe my external micro sd card?

Hey guys, I was thinking about flashing a new ROM via CWM and I've been looking at alot of videos and tutorials online, and they all say, that when you install the new ROM you must "factory data reset" your phone from CWM. So my question is, what will that erase? Will it erase anything on my SD Card? And what programs should I use to backup my stuff, in case it does get deleted?

when you do a factory reset it will wipe internal storage not external(sd card). if you want to backup your apps etc. use either titanium backup or rom toolbox to do so.

once you back up your stuff. install titanium back or rom toolbox (whichever you used) from play store and select the restore option.
Edit- read this link for more detailed instructions..google is your best friend if you are not sure about something

one last advice before you flash read ALL the instruction 2-3 times and ONLY flash when you understand them completely. follow that advice and hopefully you will never brick or harm your phone. good luck

Titanium backup only does your apps and app data......I recommend Easy Backup cuz that will get your SMS, MMS, Contacts, Calender, call log and even your apps

For photos, i recommend using G-Photos Sync feature. for apps, titanium backup, for contacts (the best you can do is export them to a vcf file transfer it to your pc then import from vcf file)
(For music i contain all the sound files on the ext-sd since factory reset doesn't touch ext-sd).
But if you have lost any of your important files, your best chance of getting them back is using hiren's boot on your pc with the undeleter tools.

I use Titanium Backup.
I believe there is a batch option to Restore Missing Apps, so as long as you backed them up they should be restorable. I restore my apps and data regularly when I am testing things. Just don't restore system apps/data, that generally doesn't end well.

I still can't find my games and apps...
Well, I would guess that either they didn't get backed up, or if they were then the backup file was moved so Titanium can't see it. Either of those possible?

I don't know... Or must I reinstall the apk ? It taking up my whole SD space even though I can't see the games and apps...
Titanium will reinstall the .apk if it was backed up, but if you have moved the apps to the SD card then I don't believe Titanium can back them up properly. I keep all my apps on the internal memory but I know that is not possible with some phones due to low internal memory or if you have a lot of apps. In that case you would need to move them back from the SD to the internal memory, then back them up, then move them back to the SD.
Try reinstalling the apk, maybe it will be able to relink to the SD.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone from the Xperia Arc forums but I have requested that a mod move this thread over to that device's Q&A forum so you can get better device specific help than here in the XDA General forum.

It impossible that apps can disappear after rooting.....have you tried reinstalling the apps ? And see if they ask to be overwritten ?

As I don't have this phone I can only go by what I've read but this thread makes it sound like apps disappearing after moving to sdcard is a common problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046594
Also I know some methods to get root on some devices will wipe system data are you sure this is not the case?

I think it got wipe... But why it still taking up much space ?
If your referring to the 4gb used and 3.4gb free at the bottom of your screen shot that number is the total space used by everything on your sd card not just apps. I'm guessing you have otjerthings on.your sd card ie music, pics, rom, backups so that total refers to everything on your sd card

I would try and install a couple apps manually since you said titanium back up did not work. Reboot and see if they are there if not I would take a look at the thread I linked to in my prior post. If you don't have anything on your sd card like I mentioned and are still missing 4gb of space then you may need to format your sd card. This will erase everything on your card including partitions so back up anything of importance to your pc first.

[Q] Question about EFS

Guys could you please answer to this question quick, since I realised what a noob mistake I made I can't stay chill...
I rooted my phone, then downloaded the galaxysunlock app (spocky) , made a EFS backup with the app then unlocked the phone.
decided to flash stock via odin after that and made a factory data wipe + cache, thinking that the content of the internal SD won't be deleted (like it was on S2) Today I realised what a big mistake I've done. I lost the backup of the original EFS folder (locked to o2)
But is it that big? Do I have reasons to worry about?
The phone is unlocked, working. I am just worried for that "just in case" thing...(or was it just in case the unlock process didn't worked?)
Have I any reason to feel worried?

Well that was my question. I can backup again, but this backup won't be the original (locked to network state). Is there any problem with that?
No not at all . Just make another nackup and keep it in your cloud. Pc. Email. Ext hdd. Thumb drive etc

[Q] Please Help!!!

Alright so I did a Nandroid backup and it says no sd-ext found skipping or something like that. I heard it doesn't matter but it's really bothering me!!! Help!
when you was doing your nandroid back up it always says that because we dont partically use external sd to install apps so the nandroid just looks in your external for installed apps and if you dont which most of us dont have it skips the process totally normal bro
Well I accidentally deleted some stuff and now it's saying that and I'm sure it didn't before. I'd there anyway to fix it?

I recommend wiping the sd card after backing up important files. After you wipe format the sd card and you should be able to use from there. I'm pretty sure some files are just corrupted.
