[Q] Please Help!!! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Alright so I did a Nandroid backup and it says no sd-ext found skipping or something like that. I heard it doesn't matter but it's really bothering me!!! Help!

when you was doing your nandroid back up it always says that because we dont partically use external sd to install apps so the nandroid just looks in your external for installed apps and if you dont which most of us dont have it skips the process totally normal bro

Well I accidentally deleted some stuff and now it's saying that and I'm sure it didn't before. I'd there anyway to fix it?

I recommend wiping the sd card after backing up important files. After you wipe format the sd card and you should be able to use from there. I'm pretty sure some files are just corrupted.

What kind of backup do you have to restore from?

I use Titanium Backup.
I believe there is a batch option to Restore Missing Apps, so as long as you backed them up they should be restorable. I restore my apps and data regularly when I am testing things. Just don't restore system apps/data, that generally doesn't end well.

I still can't find my games and apps...
Well, I would guess that either they didn't get backed up, or if they were then the backup file was moved so Titanium can't see it. Either of those possible?

I don't know... Or must I reinstall the apk ? It taking up my whole SD space even though I can't see the games and apps...
Titanium will reinstall the .apk if it was backed up, but if you have moved the apps to the SD card then I don't believe Titanium can back them up properly. I keep all my apps on the internal memory but I know that is not possible with some phones due to low internal memory or if you have a lot of apps. In that case you would need to move them back from the SD to the internal memory, then back them up, then move them back to the SD.
Try reinstalling the apk, maybe it will be able to relink to the SD.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone from the Xperia Arc forums but I have requested that a mod move this thread over to that device's Q&A forum so you can get better device specific help than here in the XDA General forum.

It impossible that apps can disappear after rooting.....have you tried reinstalling the apps ? And see if they ask to be overwritten ?

As I don't have this phone I can only go by what I've read but this thread makes it sound like apps disappearing after moving to sdcard is a common problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046594
Also I know some methods to get root on some devices will wipe system data are you sure this is not the case?

I think it got wipe... But why it still taking up much space ?
If your referring to the 4gb used and 3.4gb free at the bottom of your screen shot that number is the total space used by everything on your sd card not just apps. I'm guessing you have otjerthings on.your sd card ie music, pics, rom, backups so that total refers to everything on your sd card

I would try and install a couple apps manually since you said titanium back up did not work. Reboot and see if they are there if not I would take a look at the thread I linked to in my prior post. If you don't have anything on your sd card like I mentioned and are still missing 4gb of space then you may need to format your sd card. This will erase everything on your card including partitions so back up anything of importance to your pc first.

Now i try a backup and no /sdcard also a no suitable error msg.. what happened it was running smothly.. i have clockwork touch. Should also note when i try to backup to external nothing happens in touch cwr..

You will need to be more specific when you say sdcard...the GS3 has an internal storage that is considered an SD card in android, as well as an external SD Micro slot beside the sim card. It sounds like maybe your internal storage has become corrupted possibly. Do you have a file explorer app? If so can you browse to /sdcard? Are there any files there? If there are and you can open them then it could just be a bad backup, if you cant then the storage is corrupt. If it is corrupted a format will fix you up at the exspense of losing whatever may be on it. If a format fails to correct the problem you likely have a defective device. Try accessing the internal sdcard manually and let us know what happens. As far as the external storage goes, unless you have installed an SD Micro in your phone nothing will happen when you try to backup to it as it is, in fact, empty.
Yes i can root explore to them both i have micrs sd also. Sorry for not clarifying. I could use to backup to external.. no more. Guess ill try and format thrm?? Sorry for typos using phone. I had my original backup on internal sd.. the stock. It became corrupt and when i backed up yesterday then factory wipe reset etc.. i tried to restore to the exact backup just made it replied no m5 match..

Woah, easy there tiger....there is an edit button if you need to make changes to a post. Im sure the modderators are not going to be too happy with a quadruple post! :silly:
On to your issues, yes i have noticed with CMW recovery the dating system seems to be borked, atleast with the last 5.x version i used which does make deciding which file to restore from. The fact that you are getting MD5 mismatches seems to confirm the fact that your flash memory file system is corrupt, or possibly you have a bad recovery all together. If you can explore to the sd card you can copy the data off of it to a safer location while you determine the exact problem so as no to loose anything that could possibly be good. I would also recommend you download Clockwork Rom Manager from the market and install the latest recovery, 6. something or other. This may solve you problems all together.
P.S. - I got the error about android-secure.img every time i restorded (the error shows during the backup also if i recall) with CMW but it didnt seem to have any effect on the restore process
Yes i forgot to edit.my bad im on my phone. I uninstalled the cwm i had on phone redownloaded from playstore. Solved my date prob. So i must have downed a bad copy from a diff thread vs thr play store.. formatted both sd cards.. so lost tons but hey starting fresh aint so bad. With the premium cwm is touch included i could use free version.. thats what i did last time and had the isuue from manually install. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome, glad to hear you got it sorted it out :good:. I have recently switched to TWRP recovery which seems to me to be a bit more reliable, although i have not used CWM's touch so i dont have any ground for comparison and this perception could simply be a placebo effect.

A couple questions...

1. In twrp can I format my internal sdcard and then flash a ROM from my external sdcard to make it completely fresh? Will this reorganize everything back to just what the ruin has in it?
2. I see allot of posts on the 4.2.1 sdcard0/0/0 issue. I have gotten the newest twrp and am told it won't do it anymore? Does it only do this when going back and fourth from 4.1 ROMs and 4.2 ROMs? And will doing ? #1 fix this mess? Doesn't seen to be taking up any space on my internal sd just seems messy and I would like to understand it more, but from what I read it's never really explained well. I know it's for multiple users.

Your backups are made on the internal sd so if you format it, you'll format those as well. Also, flashing is made from the root of the internal to make sure everything goes fine.
Not so sure about your 2nd question though.
1. Yes you can. My nan backups are on my external. Once in awhile I do format internal and flash a fresh ROM. Remember though..some app settings and saved data are on internal. Also make sure you back up your pics..if you have them on internal. Make sure the files you need to flash are actually on your external before you wipe LOL
I have my nandroids and my PiCs on my external SD... and the roms I want to flash... anything else I need on the external to format my internal? Don't care about app data and stuff.

Could always make a backup of your efs folder before going ahead with this. Should be done either way

I usually just use something like root explorer and browse the folders on my internal just to be sure. Sometimes I forget there may be an apk i want and its in my download folder. And make sure you have your titanium back up stuff if thats important to you

Ext SD Card Question

Don't mean to sound stupid but ill feel better if I at least ask. I for the first time bought a micro sd card for my phone. Before I start to move files to it id like clarification on a couple of things. If I move my apps to the sd card, what happens when I flash a new rom? Do I have to install all of them again? Are they automatically recognized and installed automatically? Is. There anything I shouldn't move to the sd card? Also can I move TWRP to the sd card? If I can and boot into recovery the phone will know where the program is located? Dont mean to babble but whenever I try something for the first time like this I just like to get as much info before I proceed. Thanks for any help I can get on this.

You can back them up. You have to have the Pro version of titanium backup but you can upload your apps to cloud storage and re download them. I'm not 100% on that because I never restored apps. I could be wrong but you can for sure backup apps before flashing

Have you checked to see how many NANDROID backups you have made on
your internal sdcard?
If you have made many of them, then that could be why you you get that error.
Each nandroid takes up over 3GB of space on your internal sdcard which is
where these large games store all their data during the instillation process.
The three most space consuming items are nandroid backups, movies and videos.
Good luck!
so where exactly could I find the back ups with a file explorer app?

It's usually in a folder with the same name as your recovery. Example, TWRP or CWM. If you used ROM Manager to handle your backup it's hidden. mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup
