Here are the latest CWM and TWRP ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809307) recoveries are all flashable from recovery itself, use these to swap back and forth or just because you are bored...
These were/have been previously posted over in sprint apps section, but I keep seeing people posting questions about need this one or that...so here they are for T-Mo.
Thanks goes to the original developers for these, and for the sharing and caring..

I made my own months ago, I have tars in my sig and zips in my DropBox (which I've linked several times). You seem to have taken offense at my questions, when I clearly pointed out I didn't want you to interpret them that way. My questioning was merely a vain attempt to learn something new. Not to tear you down, but for me to become more knowledgeable about a subject from someone who clearly knows more about Android than I do.
So, is it safe to flash these?
I could of used you yesterday. I was literally scouring yesterday looking for a flashable recovery. Ended up using adb and Odin to flash something.. Thx for this post.

the CWM are for your phone. TWRP are for all GS III's...I would not have posted these here if they did not work. :victory:
OP updated with specific T-Mo builds so that md5 checks will alleviate anxieties...
Aerowinder said:
I tested both CWM Touch and TWRP myself this morning (latest versions for both). d2spr recoveries (the ones originally posted) absolutely fail the d2tmo assert check (for any zip that includes it).
As of 2012-02-17, 10:50AM EST:
The CWM Touch link is good (it was edited since my last post). Did not test CWM non-touch. Not sure why anyone would use it.
The TWRP 2.4.1.0 link is bad. This is still the d2spr version. Safe to assume the older versions are as well.
Stock recovery link is also bad.
Do not flash recoveries that are not for the T999.

The links to the recoveries are fine! The OP is updated with T-Mo provider specific stuff so that MD5/build properties match.
They work just fine. I do have links to sprint ones too. if anyone needs them...

I agree Aerowinder is very correct ! It still contain the d2spr assert code. cwmtouch-naddict still contains d2spr assert code and will not install on a d2tmo device through recovery. It aborts..

good catch, wrong source for TWRP..Corrected and in OP
however, CWM Touch is correct as per what aero said in his post

source for stock recovery is here http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyS3/SGH-T999/stockrecovery/T-Mobile-SGH-T999-Stock-Recovery.tar Posted from August 2012. source is attached, do what you want with it. :silly:
Choose to use or not, that is your choice.
I posted them here to help others, and hope someone appreciates them .... Good day
I'm not sure how often stock recovery is updated, but that one is probably from UVALEM.
All checksums match, but assert codes still haven't been removed/fixed. So none of these will flash.

Just flash. No need for wipes, since this is replacing your recovery, and not touching your ROM.

Should I restore to stock rooted, and try that way?
It could be the metadata file within the zip. It's still tagged as d2spr. That file isn't needed, and probably isn't even being read. What is the error saying? I just figured it was a status 7.
Yes, I believe it was status 7.

Okay, I'm new to Android and I heard this is the go-to spot for help. Anyway, this is what happened to my Wind SGH-T999V. Mind you i'm VERY new to this rooting thing
I rooted my S3 by using TWRP 2.6.3.0 and i used odin3 v1.85 and it worked. I downloaded a root checker and it said i'm rooted. Then i put CM 10.1.2 on my sd card and wanted to install it via TWRP recovery but it gave me an error that said "No MD5 filed found" or something along those line.
I then tried to use different versions of twrp ( twrp 2.6.1.0) and a different CM (10.1.1) but i still got the same "no Md5 found" error. So, a friend then told me to ditch twrp all-together and download CWM instead. So, I download recovery clockwork touch 6.0.3.7 and put it on my phone.
THEN, i tried to go back to the recovery boot place, but after that small blue font saying "recovery boot", my phone goes black. I dont see the old twrp recovery or the clockwork one.
I just really want to have Cyanogenmod on my phone, i've been having a hard time. Help please?
Just disable the md5 check, most or the ROM files are not going to include a hash file, but will flash fine. TWRP or CWM will error out if the flash fails.
Also, it sounds like your recovery install failed, just reinstall using ODIN and a file from @DocHoliday77 (I recommend TWRP over CWM, but it is just preference)
It's already unchecked.
Install TWRP and try again, should work without issue. Also, redownload the ROM file, preferably the latest version, 10.1.3RC2 (I think)

Don't use RC2. If you want stable, use 10.1.2. get.cm, filter it for your device. I think Doc also has them in his signature.
http://get.cm/?device=d2tmo&type=stable
"Stable" is relative, the RCs are just as good.

You need to edit the install script because your device isn't supported. Or you can download Doc's version.
Actually I'm pretty sure cm includes the T999V, but I'm betting the firmware needs to be updated.
Look in Aerowinders Sig for the links to the firmware. In that OP you should find a link to the thread with the T999V firmware.
Or, you can go to my T999L thread and get the Rom there. But w/o updated firmware it may be buggy.

So yes, switch. All else is almost always solveable as long as your recovery is solid.

To be 100% sure when people say recovery they mean the programs like CWM or TeamWin and so on right ?
Is it bad for the device to change often the recovery software ? cause i have done that couple of times, started with TeamWin and later on ended up with CWM.
But the thing is that the problem is the installation process, it does not matter what ROM i use i get still the same error.
And for the Philz Touch could you copy the name of the link that i should download, they all look the same and way more links that i am used to.

The reason you can't install any rom is because you do not have the latest version of CWM installed. You should always install the newest version when you install any recovery.
The newer roms are using an updater-script that will not work on CWM 6.0.4.7. Install an updated recovery and then install the rom that you want.

To answer your question no yes maybe. Travel around through XDA and read/learn and you will understand.
as for philz i would try this one https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/lt02wifi/philz_touch_6.44.9-lt02wifi.zip
in general find a recovery that works for you and stick with it until an update is actually called for.

If I were you, I would unroot and return to stock using ODIN first before I try anything else. If you need instructions, Google "unroot and return to stock using ODIN".

good to hear you got it sorted. CM just isn't happening yet. just watch the forum like a hawk like everyone else is...:cyclops:
If your worried about destroying your tab you prolly shouldn't have come to mod it.I know sounds like a douche bag thing to say but even putting on the flash or roms that go with the tab can destroy your tab if done improperly or even if they glitched while flash which does happen or even worse power outage when flashing.

But the RocketTab looks to work well at least for know, but would love CM mod couse i have it on my S4 and when and with the RocketTab i only get android version 4.1.2

Running TWRP, I have tried three different ROMs with no luck. It would fail to install SlimKat and CM. MIMU v5 would install but never make it past the mi.com splash screen. I wiped cache/dalvik/system/internal storage each time and tried both sideload and SD card installs same results every time. Is there something I missed along the way?
Make sure you're on the latest recoveries, twrp 2710, philz 6.48.4 on 6050, and cwm 6045.
Outdated recoveries will fail to flash Roms and if you're on an ICS Bootloader you'll get assert failures.
Have you tried PC ODIN back to stock TW and re-do the process from there?

I swapped TWRP for Philz and still get the same assert failure with CM. MIMU loads the same and gets stuck but now it vibrates every 10 seconds or so while sitting. Idk if I'm installing it right though. The older version says install GAPPS but the newer one does not. Maybe they forgot to mention it? I might try a stock ROM tomorrow just to see

Is your phone the Sprint version? Usually an assert failure is caused from trying to flash a rom that is not unified, like a Sprint rom being flashed to Boost. If a rom is not unified, and your trying to flash a Sprint rom on Boost/VM, you must remove asserts from the rom zip, then rezip, then flash. But definitely Philz advanced CM is the best. TWRP used to cause many assert failures for me.

The partition scheme may be off. I assumed there were identical from Europe to NA but I'll verify that tonight

Thank you, I am using US T-Mobile note 4!
Yeah... The partition scheme is off. I'm on T-Mobile and it won't work. Thanks for your efforts and I can't wait to try again.
[Recovery]Philz Touch Recovery[North American Variants]
Edit: nevermind. The issue is obviously deeper than the fstab or SELinux
Thanks for your hard work. I'm happy to test if you need anything.
After a lot of building, rebuilding, reconfiguring, etc some new builds are finally up.
The current version only supports identifying itself as a T-Mobile device until fully tested.
Rather than modifying the existing European version for the US, this now fully source-built.

thank you again for the great work always!
I just dug up my Epic 4G Touch and wanted to breathe some life back into it. I rooted it way back in the day but always left it stock. Now I'd like to get CM11 or Dirty Unicorns 4.4.4 on it with a custom recovery.
I've been doing a whole heck of a lot of reading trying to figure out how to avoid bricking my device in the process, but I'm still confused.
Device details
ROM: Stock 4.1.2
Baseband: S710.10 S.GB27
Kernel version: 3.0.31-1014481 [email protected]#3 SMP PREEMPT Fri Mar 1 04:27:41 KST 2013
Build number: JZ054K.SPH-D710.GB27
I have PRV/fwrev 0x19, so I'm apparently "susceptible to the EMMC /data corruption issue (which should now be referred to as EMMC lockup issue)", but it looks like I have a Gingerbread modem, so maybe not?
What I can't figure out is if I can or should fix/work-around that with a PIT file. I'd rather not make a stupid mistake, so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. What is my path to a custom Recovery + ROM (if any)?
I replied to your other thread, but maybe someone will else will see my answer here and help you further. I followed these directions. I'm sure it would work for you also, I have a MAG4FA 0x19 chip. Only problem is the links for the blasphemy kernel are dead so maybe someone can help you with that.
I just flashed philz_touch_6.19.3 recovery, rebooted, the flashed the CM11 nightly and gapps.

Are you having any issues with space on the /ssystem with gapps?

No. I used lanchon's script to repartition my internal storage.

Thanks for the guide. That got me far. Went down a few rabbit holes in the process, but now I know more about my phone. All good. The only reason this didn't work for me right away is because I canNOT find a live mirror of the blasphemy kernel anywhere. Dead end

Do you have a link to lanchon's repartition script? I think I found the reference here and the download here, but not sure if that's right. I've also never repartitioned my Epic 4G Touch. Is there a walkthrough somewhere?
Lanchon gives a step by step tutorial and examples here:
https://github.com/Lanchon/REPIT
So here's my current status:
I ODINed back to stock rooted EL29 and loaded CWM Rogue 5.0.2.7. However, I can't install anything from CWM. I always get this error (see attached image):
Code:
This package is for device: epic4gtouch,SPH-D710,d710,smdk4210,SPH-D710VMUB,SPH-D710BST; this device is smdkc210.
I just reparitioned, following these steps, including formatting my partitions, so now all I have is my CWM recovery and no ability to install anything .
Do I need to ODIN to a different version or something?
Shoot, didn't see your reply before @grimdirge. Thanks! However, that guide requires TWRP. How the heck do I get TWRP on this thing? I would love it if I could get an ODIN flashable TWRP, but all I can find are zips, which you need a custom recovery for (and I have the above mentioned problem installing zips), so I feel like I'm caught in a Catch-22.
You'll need to use this recovery:

The instructions show how to install a .img file using ADB, but the links are all to .zip files (without .imgs inside them). Just tried installing recovery-Lanchon-IsoRec-CM-6.0.5.1-20160112-d710.zip as well as recovery-Lanchon-IsoRec-TWRP-2.8.7.0-20160113-i9100-(by-arnab).zip from my CWM recovery. Both installations give me the wrong device error I mentioned above. Should I ODIN to something before trying this? Are there .img files or ODIN .tar files I can use to flash the recovery somewhere?
Sorry for all the questions. I've flashed hundreds of ROMs on 10s of devices. I've never had this kind of trouble before.
Got it!
Holy cow. I modified:
Code:
/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
To allow 'smdkc210' (apparently, my device).
I did that for all the .zip files I've collected during this process. FINALLY, I was able to install the philz recovery you recommended, and from there, I was able to install CM11! Thank you!
Yeah. This device is annoyingly complicated. Look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...c-isolated-recovery-galaxy-s2-t3291176/page43
You'll need to install the latest CM11 nightly to get the isorec kernel.
I flashed the recovery-Lanchon-isorec-TWRP-3.0.2.0-D710.zip on the above link.

Never would have found that link on my own. Awesome. Feels good to have TWRP on my phone!
So something here, within this thread, has worked... and all the links are valid still? Welp, see you folks in 3 more days when I either give up, figure it out, or brick my phone beyond repair.
