[Q] A bit of help with hboot and CID's? - HTC One X

I'm on RC8 of this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013506) and looking to upgrade to the latest release. It seems a hboot upgrade is required though (to 1.3x), which I've never really touched.
From what I can tell from bootloader I'm on hboot v0.93. CID is TMOB005 according to fastboot, and I can't find anything at all suggesting I can safely upgrade to 1.3x with this CID. Am I completely out of luck or are there other options?
Please feel free to re-educate me if I've misunderstood the concepts of hboot/CID here..
Thanks.

This is by the OP on the ROM thread (first post).

Upgrading
You can always upgrade to a newer version without wiping any data, formatting system or wiping the cache.
But keep in mind that you must always flash boot.img + re-flash gapps after upgrading

AFAIK, HBoot v0.93 is a custom HBoot, so it should be fine for you to go ahead and upgrade, just remember to flash boot.img. As for CID it is just the phone's carrier, in your case it would be T-Moblie. It determines when you get your OTA. Doubt it will affect your flashing of custom ROMS (correct me if I'm wrong, cos I'm still learning here).
I'm not too sure about HBoots, so would be nice if an expert were to come and confirm this.

Thanks for replying. I just want to be really clear here though, the thread for that ROM states:
Verify that you are running hboot 1.39 or newer (hboot 1.2x may work (please send me feedback) - but any lower hboot version will NOT work for builds after rc13)

So are you saying there's a v1.39 hboot that's safe to use with my CID? Or that I don't, in fact, have to upgrade hboot at all? I could find nothing suggesting either.

To run the latest JB roms you need to update the hboot. The hboot you have is pretty old. There is a thread with a collection of firmwares, you must flash the exact matching firmware for your CID !!!
Edit : here is the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376
We can also run a ruu to get you to full stock and from there update with ota to JB ....

Yes, what I'm asking is if anybody is aware of a compatible for my CID.
Thanks.

Is there no info in the thread, he said himself that he is not aware of the compatibility with older hboots. Its a trial and error or succes
Edit, the mentioned build will not work on lower hboots then 1.12....yours is lower so it wont work

Yes, there is an absolute minimum version which I don't meet.
Sorry if the question is unclear, I'm just looking for somebody with knowledge of the various firmware's to confirm my suspicion there is no 1.39 safe to use with my CID.

What he mentioned in his post was that you require HBoot 1.3x, not 1.39. Perhaps what you can do, to be safe, is to revert to stock ROM and update your HBoot there, after which proceed to flash the new version of the above-mentioned ROM.
Follow this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807 ) on instructions on how to do so.

Yeah if you update the hboot to minimal 1.31 max 1.39 you can flash all roms.

Different HBOOT TYPES.

Hi all. I'm new to this world so asking a, may be silly, question.
I play with roms every now and then. Change my rom from one to another in couple of weeks. I found STOCK HBOOT OFFERS LESS INTERNAL SPACE THAN CM7 OR CM7r2 hboots for custom roms.
I haven't experimented yet with these things. Can someone tell me how to convert my hboot to cm7 or cm7r2? I haven't done anything with my hboot so I suppose I'm on stock hboot. Difference between cm7 and cm7r2?
Any drawbacks of doing this? And will be able to flash app2sd and data2ext normally as I do now?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The difference is that the hboot versions offer you a diffrent internal partition layout
you can look them up http://alpharev.nl/ <-- there
also you can download it from there
You can flash it via fastboot or via the PB99IMG.zip method or you simply use android flasher(recommanded, it´s selfexplaining)
Is there any chance of bricking my phone?
When I switch between roms sometimes I get stuck in boot loops. *no worries*
I just pull out the battery. Reboot in recovery and restore nandroid backup.
In this case I'm cautious because if I'm stuck where would I go because I'm playing with hboot. I think I won't be able to access recovery in that case, right?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You can brick it if your downloaded hboot.img is not downloaded correcly
If you are in a bootloop you simply go into fastboot and flash the correct table(hboot) and flash your ROM
and yes you will be able to boot into recovery(if youre in a bootloop)

If your download was corrupt or you pulled the cable in the seconds during the flashing period then you'd most probably brick your phone, but during my time on this forum I have never heard of any such misfortunes occurring..
By the way instead of posting try searching... this is just common knowledge info and can be found with a quick google search or a visit to alpharev.. it really isn't hard and not really worth posting a new thread about.

Do I need a complete wipe before flashing hboot?

It's written on alpharev that check MD5SUM after downloading the hboot.

The nandroid needs to have the HBOOT you had, when you made that nandroid.
So if U had STOCK HBOOT when making a nandroid wich U like to go back to, then flash STOCK HBOOT - BEFORE - U nandroid back.
So for now... flash the HBOOT U want, and then right after the ROM.
And if U wanna restore your nandroid, then flash STOCK HBOOT, and then restore nandroid.
AND remember... U CAN NOT FLASH RADIO IF U ARE ON CM7R2 HBOOT,
that will brick your phone.
So flash RADIO before, OR do the procedure with ADB if U are already on CM7R2.

Alright so I read about the md5sum check got the software to check it as well, even though it didnt match, I still managed to get the cm7/r2 hboot & flash insertcoin. I want to know how exactly we know if md5sums have matched cos i want to change my rom & i want to know how i can check if the rom is compatible with the cm7/r2 hboot.
Insertcoin freezes a lot on my phone I have no idea why.

This is very awkward if you still managed to flash cm7r2 even though md5sum didn't match.
I haven't tried it yet. Will give a try tomorrow.

You do realise... the point of an md5 match is so that you know the thing that is uploaded.. is exactly the same thing that you downloaded... so... when it matches "hooray lets flash away"... when it doesn't "holy mother of god get the hell of my computer"... you sure you used it right?

[Q] Question about HBOOT

Hi guys.
Quick question.
I've been successfully flashing my HOX for a while now and I seem to be running 1.12 HBOOT.
I've noticed on the forums that this seems to be quite old. Is there any issues with running an older HBOOT?
I am currently waiting on a way to upgrade to a Jelly Bean sense ROM but I'm stuck due to my CID (VODAP002) not being compatible.
Is it an easy process to upgrade the HBOOT? Would you recommend it ?
Thanks
1.12 isn't old, its the HBOOT for ICS 4.0.4
You cannot install JB HBOOTs like 1.33, 1.36 because you are carrier branded and need to wait for your carrier to update.

You have 0.96 because you were on base 1.29 or earlier and flashed custom ROM. Don't see any advantages besides bigger writing in bootloader screen
since there is a thread here about pretty much a similar topic to what im wanting to know:
should I update my hboot from 0.43 to 1.12 or 1.21? what advantages would i get in doing so? better battery life? better performance? updating Hboot seems like a rather lengthy proceedure and i cant find any info on what i would even get from doing so anyway so i havent bothered until now.

Which RUU ROM to use?

Hi,
I would like to return to the stock ROM on my Desire. Problem is, I don't know which RUU to get. At the moment I am using CyanogenMod 7.
Did some digging and found the app called CID Getter. If there is any info there I must provide, please tell me.
Also is there anything special to be done with the RUU or do I install it as I do any rom?
Thank you.

Would doing this remove s-off or clockwork or anything else? Or could I just re instal another custom after?
It will remove everything. You can use revolutionary after you install a custom recovery and s-off.
This is the kernel, albeit you'll have a hard time achieving what you told and it will net you virtually no gain because poor cpu is not the main drawback this phone has.

Yeah whats on the phone is not important, the trick is to enter the bootloader and lock the bootloader (as you said you already did) then perform the commands gien in the thread and flash the firmware. It will lift your hboot to 1.36. After that you unlock th bootloader again and flash a custom recovery and perform a full wipe and then install the desired JB rom

Well, its like this:
The Ril is some kind of connection between your Android OS and your phone's drivers ( camera, sound, network etc. )
The Baseband is mostly the level on which ril and OS communicate with eachother.
If RIL and Baseband don't fit together you might encouter problems like no network or some malfunctioning of phone's hardware.
I'd recommend to reinstall the baseband and check get ril again, or full wipe your phone, deletre all cache and reinstall your custom rom, including boot.img....
Hope I could help you.
Thanks alot for your help. Tell me something, i need to relock bootloader to do that right? Even if its an official RUU .exe ?

Do you have the right ruu ?
Install a ruu :
1: charge the battery
2: relock the bootloader
- fastboot oem lock
3: keep the phone in the bootloader
4: execute the ruu.exe by clicking on it with the right mousebutton and select - run as administrator
If you are not sure about the ruu, do fastboot getvar version-main. The number that rolls out has to be equal or lower then the ruu version
I think the right RUU is
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.27_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_298897_signed.exe
Im am not sure cuz i let it at home charging, last time i had to lock the bootloader, i had to run the battery charger script to do anything with.
Ill test it in 2h30.

But if the fastboot getvar version-main comes out as 3.18.401 you can't use any of the ruu's

Afaik there is no 3.19 software number. The latest is 3.18. If you have 3.18.401 as a outcome you can restore a 3.18.401 nandroid backup. There are many of them in the general section-collection of nandroid backups
But none of them is for my cid :/

That's oke ! No problem. Just use it. That's the easy thing of a unbranded wwe phone
Just hold on until you are at home and perform the fastboot command. It will all be oke
