I have a HTC with the dodgey wifi antenna in the back. I want to know if this faulty antenna will effect the phone in any other way except for making it unable to connect to wifi.
I'm not sure whether to send it in for repair as I will be without a phone for a long time
AFAIK, WiFi antenna is (as name says) WiFi antenna. Your 2G/3G has separate antennas. So, mostly WiFi is affected. Of course, if WiFi antenna is dodgy, then there could be interference from WiFi to your cellular area that can cause poor reception, but I cant be sure. Why dont you take it to the service center? after all you paid a fair amount of money to buy this device!
This was an issue that HTC has recognised officially, so you can get it fixed or in some cases I've heard a complete replacement unit. AFAIK, like nandann mentioned, it should only affect your WiFi connection, other functions should fine.

hi guys
well i have a question... I was digging out whole day the net for info about any mod for the wizard antenna mod...
I own CIngular 8125 aka HTC Wizard 100, and since I have week wifi signal i thought id get better reception..
so i found some sites including instruction here also but i went for this mod
here http://tinyurl.com/y2gke3 exactly i made the same thing as shown here http://tinyurl.com/v2oxv I cut a small piece of antenna between 2 pins rely..
so, actually nothing happened with my GSM signal, it was same as before, but i found out that my wifi signal dropped a bit, which I wanted to increase...
so, i thought for making this mod here http://tinyurl.com/wq8k2 and id like to know if it gets any better wifi signal strenght...
next thing id like to know, is the issue with the antenna... is the same antenna used for GSM and wifi or what? did anyone managed to get any wifi antenna connection on PCB of a wizard so it can be attached a better antena?
if I connect an external antenna to my wizard, will the wifi signal get any better? the pcb looks similar to this picture http://tinyurl.com/y5p7yh and on the left from sd card is the external link...
is there any possibility to get better wifi strength using any kind of hardware mod? smthg like this for axim http://tinyurl.com/sbf3v so i can connect any wifi antenna...
well guys, i was a bit large writing this post but id reeli want to know of theres any possibility to get better wifi signal...
thanks
Since I was a dumb and bought a Tmo TP2 to use on ATT, I was wondering if I could buy the antenna from the ATT version and swap it into my phone. Though I doubt it is, I was curious if this is feasible?
Since both networks are UTMS, not CDMA, and thus use similar frequencies, why, therefore, would you want to disassemble your phone and mess with the antenna system, which should work perfectly well on both networks?
Frankly, it sounds to me like you have a different problem: Your phone is most likely locked to T-Mobile, meaning that it cannot use the AT&T system.
Your problem is therefore contractual, not technological, in nature.
I think the OP was actually asking if he could switch his radio, since the T-Mobile radio will not get 3G speeds on AT&T's network (discussed quite a bit here; do a search).
The answer is no. Although it may be technically possible, it would not be practical. Far easier to just sell your T-Mobile version and by an AT&T one.
Ok yea I guess its the radio. Thought it would be the antenna. Could you please explain the difference. I guess the antenna is solely reception and the radio is what interprets the signal? Is there a broken down pic where you can point out the radio.
I was hoping I could just get this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250525496122&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
Radio: The electronic hardware used to convert electromagnetic radiation signal (radio waves) into usable electrical impulses to decipher to either data (ones and zeros) or audio (speech, music, etc). May also use software systems to further enhance or aid the deciphering of the received signal.
Antenna: The hardware (often as simple as a long wire, sometimes as complex as an array of directional beam antennae) used to gather said electromagnetic radiation signal, and direct it to the radio electronics hardware.
Hope that helps
Thank you for your replies.
So Im guessing the radio is either expensive to buy or requires to replace the whole motherboard?
Hi everyone,
My g7 is having problem with wifi (and bluetooth, but I mostly use wifi). The issue is the wifi signal strength is extremely low. Only when I put the phone just next to the wifi AP, it will get a strength of 3-4 (not full) slots. In most cases if you walk away from the AP for about 5 meters, the strength will go down to almost nothing and becomes very unstable.
bluetooth? even in discoverable mode, it is not discoverable.
I think it might be a problem of some kind of antenna inside it. how could I check? i have disassembled it.
I noticed when I remove the chin of it, the phone signal will go to zero (the GSM signal) and I know there is an antenna in it. Isn't the wifi sharing antenna with the mobile network?
My radio is latest according to the forum. Trying cm7.0.3 and oxygen 2.2.1, both same issues.
hardware defect
working fine for me on both and no bug have been reported on both roms.
must be your hardware defect, sorry. still in warranty ?
Hi folks,
I jinxed myself. Yesterday I crowed over successfully replacing my M919 S4 wifi antenna, gaining better wifi performance by about one wifi bar around my house. (The thread is here, if anyone is interested) Basically I just felt my wifi reception was weak enough to suggest a problem, and I wanted better wifi coverage when not right next to a wifi router, so I popped for a few bucks to try a replacement antenna. It seemed to do the trick.
I didn't notice until I left home this morning that swapping the wifi antenna killed my cellular connection. No bars, and "No Service" was listed. Huh. At work, with no tools, I did the usual stuff. Remove/replace SIM, pull battery, no joy. At lunch I went and got a screwdriver. Disassembled / reassembled the unit (took off screws and frame, made sure no bent contacts) etc.. No joy. Went to nearby ATT store for new SIM, no joy.
Came home, and on a lark took out the new wifi antenna and put the old one back in. Rebooted, and all was back to normal. Fine cellular service right away, and back to the previously somewhat weak wifi reception.
I don't understand what could cause this series of events. To be clear, here's the part I used:
http://www.esquareparts.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s4-l720-r970-m919-wifi-antenna-flex-cable/
Is the WIFI antenna also part of the cellular system antenna, and is there a failure/defect mode that would explain why this replacement part would kill cellular service while working fine for WIFI?
I'm very confused. I want to get back to stronger wifi reception, WITHOUT killing my cellular...
Help!
Dude your over thinking it, had a feeling you where chasing a ghost but just waited for you to confirm it. Go to your nearest T-Mobile store and let then do there testing diagnostics and get it directly from the horses mouth. Yes, your phone is defective or no, your crazy. Or find someone with exact phone and compare signals.

I've been known to overthink things. Kind of my calling-card!
But this wifi thing isn't a ghost at all. Any other wifi device I've used in the last several years has had better wifi reception than this particular S4, including an ATT S4 I used for a couple months last year. And it's not just the "reported wifi bars" (which can vary by ROM)... the thing actually frequently disconnects from wifi when I head down to the basement. And in other wifi locations around town, it's reporting much lower. The replacement wifi antenna fixed that and brought it much closer to normal, no more disconnections. Except, of course, for my cellular connection.
If anyone can help explain why the new wifi antenna would completely kill the cell radio functionality (reversibly, thank gosh!), please pipe in. This is a stumper, for me...
And I don't think the T-mo store would do much for me. I'm using the phone on ATT, and I bought it through Swappa, so T-mo doesn't even have me in their system.

Hi guys.
I have a strange problem with the gps.
I've been with lg4 for 1 year and had no problems, this week strangely I started to fail the gps, it connects sporadically, I checked the GPS fix and GPS status toolbar, and it does not work.
Doing tests I discovered that when disconnecting the data network the gps works great in a second it locates me. I just turn on the 3g data network the gps reception is lost. If I leave only 2g network and gps works perfect the gps the bad thing is that the data network is very slow.
Conclusion:
1. It is not a problem with the GPS of the phone because it receives the signal from the satellites.
2. When disconnecting the data network works perfect
3. When connecting the data network but only in 2g works perfect
4. When entering the 3g data network, the GPS fails.
Any suggestions?
I forgot that I am not a leading user to pay attention to my question
I have similar problem with G4 from the beginig. But I have not a solution. Quick connect to GPS but sporadically lost signal
for the one that interests you.
I had this same problem in an HTC m10, I thought it was a defect of the smartphone I sold it and I was with a huawei y5 ii and it always worked perfect, it was not very efficient but the GPS always worked for me. After a few months I decided to buy LG G4 for the low price and good benefits. After a few months and after overheating the GPS began to fail as described above and as did the HTC, I also remember that the HTC overheated bastabte and as it was metal felt even more.
The case is that strangely presented the same failure, after consulting a thousand times online and seeing that there was no answer and that the XDA teachers did not pay attention to my question. I took him to an LG service center and they told me the following:
1. When a metal is heated, it expands and contracts with the temperature ... that is not new.
2. When this happens on a smartphone the connections of the antennas that are usually like sheets of springs, stop making good contact with the phone's cover. This is because they are pressed and remain flat without making contact with the antenna.
3. This causes that it does not detect well the networks ... well it is data network, cellular network or as it is the case the signals GPS.
4. The smartphone should be released and verify that all connections are in good condition.
5. In my case, the technician lifted all connection patices so that they made a stronger contact.
with this not only fix the GPS but the cell signal is always at maximum.:laugh:
If I had known this I would not have sold the HTC
I tried the smartphone all day yesterday with UBER and the GPS function worked perfectly, please close the issue RESOLVED
