Hi guys.
I have a strange problem with the gps.
I've been with lg4 for 1 year and had no problems, this week strangely I started to fail the gps, it connects sporadically, I checked the GPS fix and GPS status toolbar, and it does not work.
Doing tests I discovered that when disconnecting the data network the gps works great in a second it locates me. I just turn on the 3g data network the gps reception is lost. If I leave only 2g network and gps works perfect the gps the bad thing is that the data network is very slow.
Conclusion:
1. It is not a problem with the GPS of the phone because it receives the signal from the satellites.
2. When disconnecting the data network works perfect
3. When connecting the data network but only in 2g works perfect
4. When entering the 3g data network, the GPS fails.
Any suggestions?
I forgot that I am not a leading user to pay attention to my question
I have similar problem with G4 from the beginig. But I have not a solution. Quick connect to GPS but sporadically lost signal
for the one that interests you.
I had this same problem in an HTC m10, I thought it was a defect of the smartphone I sold it and I was with a huawei y5 ii and it always worked perfect, it was not very efficient but the GPS always worked for me. After a few months I decided to buy LG G4 for the low price and good benefits. After a few months and after overheating the GPS began to fail as described above and as did the HTC, I also remember that the HTC overheated bastabte and as it was metal felt even more.
The case is that strangely presented the same failure, after consulting a thousand times online and seeing that there was no answer and that the XDA teachers did not pay attention to my question. I took him to an LG service center and they told me the following:
1. When a metal is heated, it expands and contracts with the temperature ... that is not new.
2. When this happens on a smartphone the connections of the antennas that are usually like sheets of springs, stop making good contact with the phone's cover. This is because they are pressed and remain flat without making contact with the antenna.
3. This causes that it does not detect well the networks ... well it is data network, cellular network or as it is the case the signals GPS.
4. The smartphone should be released and verify that all connections are in good condition.
5. In my case, the technician lifted all connection patices so that they made a stronger contact.
with this not only fix the GPS but the cell signal is always at maximum.:laugh:
If I had known this I would not have sold the HTC
I tried the smartphone all day yesterday with UBER and the GPS function worked perfectly, please close the issue RESOLVED

My Trinity has decided it's had enough of working and is doing some crazy stuff. Firstly if you have the phone in Automatic registration it never gets signal but will say G or 3G etc. At this point I cannot make or receive calls or texts. The only way I have managed to get it to work is by turning Auto to Manual and selecting the network..yet sometimes this doesnt work, it will show reception but calls and texts still dont work, Data works tho!!
The only way I can get a working phone is selecting GSM from the network type instead of Auto. Obviously it sounds like a 3G/UMTS problem with the phone, Sim works fine in other phones. Have tried reflashing ROM and Radio.
ANy Ideas
are you sure you have good 3G coverage in your area?
I would phone your operator.
I had a similar problem on Vodafone only when set to auto. The phone tries to pick up the 3G weak signal and so it's always droppin off and on.
The guy at Voda suggested that my phone was paired to a 3G base station several KM away, when it could have used the GSM station a few 100 metres away.
A plus of using GSM is battery life lasts much longer!
Of course there could be a hardware fault which would be unfortunate.

I assume that you've configured your phone to your operator and that you've tried different radio ROMS to ensure optimal "fit" between your specific PDA and network operator. If you haven't and none of sickboy555's suggestions work, maybe you should check these two alternatives out as well?
Cheers!

Well the problem initially started at random, did actually do anything, also I have tried about 4 different ROMS now and all have the same problem. I'm on
In terms of reception I have full 3G signal (4 bars according to the screen) as I am just outside the centre of the city yet nothing comes through but data. tis V strange. I may retry 3G when I'm somewhere else just in case its down to the local Cell.
I've decided to bite the bullet and just disabled 3G most of the time, if I need faster data I'll turn it on for that until I can upgrade to the TyTN 2. mmmmmm
Love love love my Desire. Few little problems here and there (Music Genre, Battery life etc) but the one main thing that is really bugging me is, that if I lose reception (I live in a area with lots of valleys), it will never regain reception even if I enter a town centre or City. I always have to either switch Airplane mode on then off. Or more often than not, turn the phone off completely and switch it back on, where it then finds reception straight away.
Anyone else getting this?
I'm on Vodafone and using the latest Generic Rom
I'm not sure if this is the same problem, sometimes i
have no data connection (i guess 3x since i have the phone).
I see some bars but no Edge or H (3g) sign and obviously i have not data connection ... dunno if the phone part work, will try next time.
anyway, i could get the data connection back by switching from 3g to GPRS mode and later back. You can see in the bar that for a very short time all GSM connection is gone ... i guess it's similar to switching to airplane mode ...
Maybe it's worth a try for you, maybe it's totally useless
btw: i'm living in a city, the nearest celltower is just a few meters away.
I have similar issues but I had the same issues with my ADP, not just the Desire.
Inside my University buildings I lose reception very often and the GSM connection always reestablishes itself but not the Data connection. When I reboot my phone the same thing happens. There is a good chance that the Data connection wont initialize and I have to switch to Airplane mode and back to get the Data connection. Really frustrating sometimes :/
Another very, very annoying problem I have is that sometimes it shows a data connection but it can't be used. It shows E/3G/H but whenever I start an app which uses data, it always times out.
Another problem, which is probably not fixable, is that my Phone likes to jump between E/3G/H quite a lot and every time it does do so, it seems like the app using the data connection has to reestablish the connection. This led to quite some timeouts when it was constantly jumping around.
I get poor 3G reception on my desire ( orange UK ) , have to go outside in the rain to get a better reception

vodafone have been getting worse and worse of late, I travel from surrey to london (central) every morning and was getting the same thing. I was even getting this all the time with a blackberry 9700, It is not the phone as I tried tmobile sim card in the same areas and didn't have the problem. Only 8 months to go of my contract which I will not be renewing.
I have an issue where if I use wifI at home for an evening, when I switch wifi off, the 3g data connection does not re connect. If I re boot, it connects immediately.

Assuming Vodafone uses Sim cards. I just had the same issue, here in the states with AT&T. I thought my Tilt was at fault so I borrowed a little Samsung flip phone and put my Sim in it but it did the same thing.
I had AT&T replace my Sim card and so far, 48+ hours, it hasn't happened again on my Tilt.
Might be worth a try.

Thanks, might try changing the Radio version and see if that helps first, if not will give Vodafone a call.

I have this same problem at home (in South London) with my desire and had it with my G1 too (both on T-Mobile). I'm pretty sure it's a network issue rather than android or the phone. I constantly have 3 bars of H signal and during the daytime it's blazing fast but after around 5pm and all day at the weekends it becomes basically unusable with network timeouts more often than usable connections. I work 40 miles away down south and I get a consistently fast data connection down there with none of the time out problems.
I also tried using a t-mobile sim in a 3g dongle and had the same issues, it was great during the day and incredibly slow with loads of timeouts in the eve. It reminds me of when unmetered ISPs first came out and couldn't cope with the amount of bandwidth being used, I'm pretty sure this is a similar capacity problem in some areas.
I've been in touch with t-mobile and they are escalating it to 3rd line support so will wait and see what happens. As it's at home I can use wifi and it's not the end of the world but it some respects I wish I hadn't upgraded and switched networks instead, my gf's on O2 with the phone that is not to be named and doesn't have this problem at all.
In response to your most recent query on a different thread you had posted (now closed):
Will changing the radio help me?
Currently got this issue happening daily

If I lose reception at any point, I have to either turn Airplane Mode on and off or restart the phone to get ANY sort of reception.
Currently on 1.15.405.4 Generic Rom with Baseband version 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11

Yes, by updating the Radio version this can improve things like battery life, network reception, Wi-Fi, and GPS signal strength, but this also depends on your region - it will either work better for you or could be worse. It may be worthwhile changing to Radio 4.06.00.02 for a few days and try to establish whether or not it improves your situation. If it doesn't, then just revert back to the stock Radio version.
I had a very similar problem on my Touch Diamond 2. It turned out to be a faulty aerial and had to go back to HTC for repair. Worked ok for a while after that, then it started again. An update to their latest ROM then solved it. So a hardware issue and a seperate software issue both produced the same fault for me.
Hi everyone,
My g7 is having problem with wifi (and bluetooth, but I mostly use wifi). The issue is the wifi signal strength is extremely low. Only when I put the phone just next to the wifi AP, it will get a strength of 3-4 (not full) slots. In most cases if you walk away from the AP for about 5 meters, the strength will go down to almost nothing and becomes very unstable.
bluetooth? even in discoverable mode, it is not discoverable.
I think it might be a problem of some kind of antenna inside it. how could I check? i have disassembled it.
I noticed when I remove the chin of it, the phone signal will go to zero (the GSM signal) and I know there is an antenna in it. Isn't the wifi sharing antenna with the mobile network?
My radio is latest according to the forum. Trying cm7.0.3 and oxygen 2.2.1, both same issues.
hardware defect
working fine for me on both and no bug have been reported on both roms.
must be your hardware defect, sorry. still in warranty ?
Hi folks,
I jinxed myself. Yesterday I crowed over successfully replacing my M919 S4 wifi antenna, gaining better wifi performance by about one wifi bar around my house. (The thread is here, if anyone is interested) Basically I just felt my wifi reception was weak enough to suggest a problem, and I wanted better wifi coverage when not right next to a wifi router, so I popped for a few bucks to try a replacement antenna. It seemed to do the trick.
I didn't notice until I left home this morning that swapping the wifi antenna killed my cellular connection. No bars, and "No Service" was listed. Huh. At work, with no tools, I did the usual stuff. Remove/replace SIM, pull battery, no joy. At lunch I went and got a screwdriver. Disassembled / reassembled the unit (took off screws and frame, made sure no bent contacts) etc.. No joy. Went to nearby ATT store for new SIM, no joy.
Came home, and on a lark took out the new wifi antenna and put the old one back in. Rebooted, and all was back to normal. Fine cellular service right away, and back to the previously somewhat weak wifi reception.
I don't understand what could cause this series of events. To be clear, here's the part I used:
http://www.esquareparts.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s4-l720-r970-m919-wifi-antenna-flex-cable/
Is the WIFI antenna also part of the cellular system antenna, and is there a failure/defect mode that would explain why this replacement part would kill cellular service while working fine for WIFI?
I'm very confused. I want to get back to stronger wifi reception, WITHOUT killing my cellular...
Help!
Dude your over thinking it, had a feeling you where chasing a ghost but just waited for you to confirm it. Go to your nearest T-Mobile store and let then do there testing diagnostics and get it directly from the horses mouth. Yes, your phone is defective or no, your crazy. Or find someone with exact phone and compare signals.

I've been known to overthink things. Kind of my calling-card!
But this wifi thing isn't a ghost at all. Any other wifi device I've used in the last several years has had better wifi reception than this particular S4, including an ATT S4 I used for a couple months last year. And it's not just the "reported wifi bars" (which can vary by ROM)... the thing actually frequently disconnects from wifi when I head down to the basement. And in other wifi locations around town, it's reporting much lower. The replacement wifi antenna fixed that and brought it much closer to normal, no more disconnections. Except, of course, for my cellular connection.
If anyone can help explain why the new wifi antenna would completely kill the cell radio functionality (reversibly, thank gosh!), please pipe in. This is a stumper, for me...
And I don't think the T-mo store would do much for me. I'm using the phone on ATT, and I bought it through Swappa, so T-mo doesn't even have me in their system.

Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone has experienced the following problems and if they have resolved them. My Lg G4 is having some serious problems with my 5ghz WiFi network at home. The 2.5 ghz works reasonably well but the speed of my 5 Ghz is more than twice the 2.5. So here is what happens, I am in the room of the router, excellent connection and all of a sudden during browsing facebook/random internet search about c++ programming/linux command the the internet cuts out. There is no internet on my phone what so ever, going to any page yields the same result. I pulled out my laptop and tested the connection on the 5 ghz and 90 megs per second.
If I turn the wifi off and turn it back on the phone reconnects and regains internetability (or the traffic starts going again).
I have tried resetting my phone, getting a replacement, changing router settings - I did everything from removing the key, leaving it unprotected to changing channels to doing firmware updates to no avail.
Has anyone had this issue and solved it?
Wireless on this device is seriously broken in every aspect. I've been battling the 5ghz issue for months now. They (VZW) know its an issue, LG knows it an issue. They credited me for two months but now say they wont do any more and I have to buy a new device out of my pocket. Even went as far as to tell me the G4 doesn't support 5ghz band and that they were sorry that I don't understand how WiFi works. They also refuse to warranty because its a software bug and any additional G4's will have the same issue. So its an issue, but its not an issue...according to them....Totally over it, and their lack of support.
Sorry, I don't have a solution for you, but I can confirm the G4 has 5ghz issues. The LG G2 also does, but much worse.
I have my G4 connected to 5ghz only (802.11ac) at home, and I experience this issue about once a week. (I'm sure it would be more if I used my phone at home more). The traffic all of the sudden just stops. Toggling wifi on/off or just waiting a long time solves it. My two other devices on 5ghz have zero issues. I can live with it because, so far, it has never interrupted important stuff like wifi calls.
Same result here on the 9th device stupid VZW has sent me and the 5ghz still dont work. I still cannot understand how it is that these people sell a broken device and can get away from the lemon laws. It is like a bank all we do is we take in the money and the broken product we sold to you is something you have to deal with.
