GA10 Battery Question - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ok so I used to be in the JellyBam Rom and I really liked it but my battery was pretty bad. I was lucky if i got 12 hours with an hour of screen time. So people on this forum had mentioned I should try stock rooted GA10 and I would see a great improvement in my battery. Well 2 days ago I took the leap and One Clicked GA10 and to be honest I see no real difference in battery. I do get some extra stand by time but still only about an hour of screen time. For example i took my phone off charge 3 hours ago...sent a few texts and an hour phone call and my battery is down too %63. What am i doing wrong? I have Deep Sleep Battery Saver installed and screen brightness is on auto. I also have all sync off. Why is my battery still ****ty. My phone and battery is only 4 or 5 months old. I also have 1 widget and no live wallpaper. Please help

The battery saver programs often use more battery. Delete that stuff and use the phone like normal.

Battery-wise, GA10 is not very good. FK23 and FL16 offered much better battery life. I'm on GB08 right now but it's still too early to report on its battery life.

Ughh battery drain definitely too fast.

I feel like I make a thread for each phone I go through. First Blackberries, then Droid X, now Galaxy Nexus.
I am getting pretty horrible battery drain that is definitely worse than others' Nexuses. I have gone to the extended battery now for a few days, yet in the morning, when I unplug from charger (says 98% but charged?), with brightness only a quarter of the way up from lowest, I can literally watch the percentage (battery number mod in corner) drop one-by-one each minute or a few...So if I am actually using the phone, you can imagine it drops pretty fast. Yesterday, with very very moderate use the phone was still dead within 5-6 hours. It was at the mid-80s within an hour or more. Again, with moderate use.
It is stomach-dropping watching the percentage number just go down and down. Yet my friend's Gnex using the extended battery his first day did not hit 85% yesterday until 5+ hours later. The battery stats page on mine shows nothing with high numbers except Screen and Android OS, so I assume no apps are draining it. I am rooted with unlocked BL, on bigxie's deodexed ROM with softkeys mod, battery percentage mod, and power menu mod. I have 100-something apps and many widgets but no battery draining/updating ones. Others with the same ROM report fine battery.
I believe after using the ext. battery for a couple days, it should be "conditioned" if needed at all, yet I see no improvement.
I'm getting very angry watching this drop.. For example, 40 minutes off the charger with almost NO use except for turning the screen on here and there, I am at 94% battery with Screen at 46%, Android OS at 34%, Phone Idle 11%, Cell Standby 9%, and Android System 2%.
And then 1 hr 20 min in, at 88% battery with 55% Screen, 27% Android OS, 6% Phone Idle, 6% Cell Standby.
This doesn't sound normal right? Keep in mind, those numbers are with almost no phone use..very minimal settings menus visited and one update from Market.
Jesus, literally almost every time or two I turn the screen on just to check these numbers, I see the damn battery percentage drop a number. Not even using the phone how/as much as I normally would be. This is infuriating. Luckily, it doesn't seem to drain much with the screen off.
Quit checking and wait til the bug is fixed and blood pressure stabilizes?
Crazy world, ay?
Update to 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 with an improved kernel = success.
Use the phone for 1-2 weeks to stablize battery life - mine is better now than it was when I began using it. But the kernel/rom makes a big difference.
Thanks. Any suggestions on with combo to use now? 4.0.3 preferrably I guess.
Then why does my friend on totally stock 4.0.2, non-rooted have that great battery life from the first day using the extended battery?? I'm pretty much basing mine off of his and other's who are getting ridiculously long life. I never understood how it varies SO much. We should all have the same relative to usage.

No. Because no two phones are set up the same. Too many variables to say relatively same usage. For instance, when i go to bed i get 2-3 hours standby per percentage point. Not everybody is going to get that.

Maybe, but the fact that I have no other visible outstanding draining factors, and I get no 4G at home and therefore have it set to CDMA only...I should not be seeing 1% drops almost every time I turn the screen on for more than 30 seconds. Especially with an extended battery.
God forbid I want to use GPS or 4G.

Wow, really? At first glance in all sub-forums I saw about two, if that. I have a legitimate concern, especially when my friend is getting about 4 times better life. Thanks for your help though in the device forum where this 'doesn't belong'.
..And over the course of only a few minutes of the screen being on maybe twice and sending one email, I saw it go from low 82-83 down to 77. ****ing awesome.

You probably have a misbehaving app. Download better battery stats from the android apps and games section here at xda and let it run for a day or so and see what processes are being used the most and what your wakelocks are, etc.
Also, find a 4.0.3 rom with a kernel that can be undervolted and try that out.

Thank you, downloading now and will check it out.
I'll admit I'm using the GSM version so my experiences may not apply but for the first few days my battery life was utter crap.
Its been MUCH improved over the last few days, I dont have the wakelock issue and with the screen off the battery drain is literally only about 3% per hour, and thats with background data on.
YES, the screen DOES use a lot of battery, it isnt really avoidable and is somewhat expected with a 720p 4.6 inch super AMOLED screen.
The one thing I can recommend doing is finding a modded kernel and undervolting that CPU - It seems they've been really rather generous providing power to the thing, I've been able to take off at least 100-150mv across the board.

This - My battery on the stock battery on GSM sucked first few days, and I was really concerned I made a poor purchase. But with the screen on probably 5 or 6 hours of my work day it lives through the day and just enough to get home after that. I can charge it at work too, which I usually do. On my day off it survived 18 hours and still had ~20% battery life left on 4.0.3 AOKP/Francisco.Franco Kernel
From my experience, the battery life isn't bad. I did install the "extended" battery as soon as I bought the phone but is isn't much bigger than the stock battery. I am on stock rooted 4.02. With LTE off I use about 2% per hour in standby. With LTE on it is almost double that (3-4%/hour). I have several widgets running and gps enabled. (wifi when available) I can easily get a 16-18 hour day and have 50% remaining when I go to bed unles I sit around gaming for a couple hours.
I may try a new ROM tonight but I expect it will probably make things worse.
Im running a bone stock setup and im getting 12 -14 hours a day... normally I read posts like the one skiddingus posted and wonder why I never can achieve those readings so i feel your confusion . I do have 4g on and gps off screen is about 1/4 of the way up brightness wise

Which ICS rom has given you the best battery life?

So right now I'm on AOKP, and this and every ICS rom I've had bad battery life, I have only gotten 2 hours of screen on time, maybe 2 hours 20 min. I came from Juggernaut when I would easily get 3.5 hours of screen on time, and I even find myself charging my phone a lot more often. So just wondering which rom/kernel has given you guys the best battery life

On GB: Juggernaut/Synergy
On ICS so far: Telus stock v4.0.3/stock kernel
Darkside Telus 4.0.3 build has fantastic battery life for me. I get about 2% battery drain per hour (when the phone is sitting idle) and on a typical day I will still have more than 50 - 60% battery left when I go to bed. That's after the phone has been on for 15 or 16hrs with moderate use.
If I use the phone more heavily I can get over 3 hours of screen on time.
If we're talking ICS rom's, I'd say 'CM9 20120620 Unofficial' gave me great battery life. I used it for almost a week. I had BLN disabled and was very impressed with the battery life. I could make it an entire day with mod/heavy use. I've run several ICS rom's, and by far it beats them all hands down. It might not be on par with our GB rom's yet....but it's getting close. They've now removed BLN support from the kernel because of the battery drain. But I found just disabling it was enough for me.
I'm getting ready to flash nightly 6/27 with bln disabled. I'll see what kind of improvement I get, if any, with it being disabled.

i put on darksideevolution v7 yesterday and after 10 hours i had 65% left. i did about 40 minutes on the phone, texting all day, wifi/data turned off when it wasnt being used (easy to turn on/off with the toggles)
Honestly I haven't had good battery life since I got this phone 2 months ago. I've been tinkering alot, mainly with Darkside and now AOKP with Eugene's kernel on lionheart. My wife's stock t989 gets great battery life, but I can't live in stock. It seems like I can leave my phone unused sometimes, maybe overnight, and the battery life is great (9% used in 10 hours) but as soon as I pick it up, it drops 20%. Must be that big screen. Anyway, I'm trying to get this worked out. I'm getting my preferred rom figured out and then hoping to let the battery settle into it. Always an experiment...

Is this good/normal battery life?

Running GA10 4.1.2 on my Epic 4G Touch. I have 4G on, auto sync on, some widgets on.
Sitting here at 25% battery life, 8 hour total run time. 2 hour screen on time.
Screen usage is 47% and Android OS is @ 25% usage.
Android UI is at 15%.
Does this sound about right for a stock phone?
Running Stock FK23 with ExitOnly tweaks, and I'm getting 3 hours of screen time with about 14 hours of battery on heavy usage.
I normally only use about an hour and a half of screen time, and I usually get anywhere from 19-23 hours of battery.
Im getting similar screen time but 2~3X longer overall run time. No 4G in my area now but in the past I only turned on 4G when needed. Saves a lot of battery life that way.

That sounds about right for GA10. After unplugging from the charger in the morning and using 4G several times throughout the day with a few syncs and no GPS, I usually got around 2 hrs & 30 mins screen time. With FK23 and FL16, screen time was about 3 & 1/2 to 3 & 3/4 hrs. Now with an extended battery on FL16, I get between 6 to 7 hrs of screen on time.
With auto-sync on, that's not bad.

On my original battery i got about 12-16 average 2-3 screen time.. got new batteries from amazon 24 hours on each.. please if anyone has bad battery life buy new batteries 20 bucks for 2 def worth it
So, I take it GA10 is not the best despite it being the most recent leak.
here I am with 4G off, auto sync off, 22 minutes on battery, with 12m on screen time... 87%......
What....
Shouldn't it bee at like 96%??

Yes, despite being the latest leak, it's not the best. It also has thebcall waiting bug. That's why I went back to FL16. And now I'm just waiting for the GB08 leak.
GA10 >>Stock<< about 14+hrs and 3.5hrs screen on time for me.

Ga10 with Fl16 kernel, i get crazy battery life. Stock/rooted, synch off, I have 4g all around me in NYC but don't really use it much. 3g is great when out and about.
Manually synch once a day, all is good.

Maybe it's your battery. Do the battery test spin the battery on a flat surface if it spins it your battery. Also if you just installed the rom give a couple of days so it can settle. There's a app called better battery stats that tells you if you have any wake clocks or a certain app that's draining your battery.

If it does spin you need to get a new battery or it can damage your device.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
If your battery is spinning, it's definitely time to replace. Your battery life will start sucking, and will start shutting off at 65%.
Your phone will lose 1% battery per minute also. You just do not want to have to deal with that while waiting for your new battery.
If you have TEP, take it to a repair center and see if they will give you a new one. If not buy on eBay.
Don't buy batteries from amazon for $10 or the guy on ebay for that much. I just bought 2 from some guy on ebay selling for 13 dollars and some change. I peeled off Samsung sticker on both old swollen battery and the new one and that guy had the real deal. Make sure you look at all negative feedback if you go that route of buying replacement.
Yeah sometimes you get lucky and get a 1900 mah battery instead of 1800 mah.

I used to think it was GB08, because when I first flashed my phone to GB08 from FL24 I started losing %50 of battery overnight compared to just 1-2% overnight I've had with FL24. But it turned out not to be GB08. Go to your google maps -> settings -> location settings and turn OFF Location Reporting, Locating Sharing, Locatin History etc. Now, charge your phone and leave it overnight and see how much battery juice you have left. My phone on GB08 loses 1-2% of battery for 8 hours of sleep with all the gmaps location crap turned off.

CleanRom 5 battery

Hi,
This question is for anyone using the latest CleanRom on their Note II. Just wondering if your average battery drain is around 4-5%/h. I use BetteryBatteryStats. I also check the Battery section under Settings. The most battery life I have been able to get is 12 - 15 h with 1-2h screen time. At this point, the battery is at less than 10%. Is this normal ? I thought I remembered getting better life from older versions of CleanRom. I know these numbers are never achievable on any AOSP rom that I have tried. Just wanted to see what everyone's experience is with battery life. Just post any thoughts!
Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate your time!

Just like anyone else, it all depends on what kernel you're on and what apps you have wakelocking. I've been using Clean 5.0 as my daily for months and the battery life lasts me throughout the day until I need to sleep at which point I plug in... but sometimes, I'm running into fast battery drain due to some apps going nuts on me or when Bluetooth is trying to link from a long distance (where the phone would heat up and drain like mad... btw this only happened to me twice in many months). After a reboot, it usually clears up and after a recharge, I'm back to 14 hours with 20% left at night. I'm not one to be anal about my battery drain if it lasts me until I sleep (because I have NEVER had a smartphone that would last me that long without plugging in... in fact, barely half the day would be when my device would need to be fed).
I'm using Perseus' latest with a few screen tweaks, no CPU or power tweaks, using Facebook constantly, Pulse, SMS/MMS, camera throughout the day, Next 3D launcher with all the fun animations running, YouTube, Pandora when driving (so my Bluetooth is on constantly)... let's just say I'm a heavy user. When my kids get a hold of my device, they run a bunch of games and drain around 10% by the time I get it back.
I am happy with the battery life on my Clean Rom 5.0/Perseus Note II. I won't fuss about it as long as it lasts longer than half the day because that is what I was used before upgrading.
