Is this good/normal battery life? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Running GA10 4.1.2 on my Epic 4G Touch. I have 4G on, auto sync on, some widgets on.
Sitting here at 25% battery life, 8 hour total run time. 2 hour screen on time.
Screen usage is 47% and Android OS is @ 25% usage.
Android UI is at 15%.
Does this sound about right for a stock phone?

Running Stock FK23 with ExitOnly tweaks, and I'm getting 3 hours of screen time with about 14 hours of battery on heavy usage.
I normally only use about an hour and a half of screen time, and I usually get anywhere from 19-23 hours of battery.

Im getting similar screen time but 2~3X longer overall run time. No 4G in my area now but in the past I only turned on 4G when needed. Saves a lot of battery life that way.

That sounds about right for GA10. After unplugging from the charger in the morning and using 4G several times throughout the day with a few syncs and no GPS, I usually got around 2 hrs & 30 mins screen time. With FK23 and FL16, screen time was about 3 & 1/2 to 3 & 3/4 hrs. Now with an extended battery on FL16, I get between 6 to 7 hrs of screen on time.

With auto-sync on, that's not bad.

On my original battery i got about 12-16 average 2-3 screen time.. got new batteries from amazon 24 hours on each.. please if anyone has bad battery life buy new batteries 20 bucks for 2 def worth it

So, I take it GA10 is not the best despite it being the most recent leak.
here I am with 4G off, auto sync off, 22 minutes on battery, with 12m on screen time... 87%......
What....
Shouldn't it bee at like 96%??

Yes, despite being the latest leak, it's not the best. It also has thebcall waiting bug. That's why I went back to FL16. And now I'm just waiting for the GB08 leak.

GA10 >>Stock<< about 14+hrs and 3.5hrs screen on time for me.

Ga10 with Fl16 kernel, i get crazy battery life. Stock/rooted, synch off, I have 4g all around me in NYC but don't really use it much. 3g is great when out and about.
Manually synch once a day, all is good.

What kind of battery life are you guys seeing with constant usage

I know using the phone constantly drains the battery alot faster but I think mine is abnormally fast.. right now I'm at 4 hrs and 25 mins and I have about. 15 % battery left.. that seems kind of drastic. It shows my screen draining at 53%.. does that seem normal or is that bad..

Stock or root? Stock thats waaaaaaay too fast. Rooted thats the issue I was having
Stock..

Since I rarely take it off charger, pretty good.
I can go 15 hours and have 50% at the end of the day with like 2 hours or more of screen usage..
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I Should also add that I have poor reception in my area and my airave isn't playing nice with my touch.. its a little under 5 hours and I'm at 10 % now. I've been one my phone pretty much that whole 5 hours listening to music for about 2 hrs straight. And checking tapatalk constantly.
Tapatalkin' it from my Epic Touch 3g
My first full charge lasted me about 13 hours with moderate to heavy usage and I still had about 40% left when i plugged it in. I was on WiFi for about 8 of those 13 hours but I also had 4G and Bluetooth turned on with my Jawbone connected.
Every day since then has been just a tad different but nothing too drastically different than that. This phone is awesome with battery compared to any other Android phone I have had.

I feel your pain. The other day my phone was dead in 6hrs with 2hs screen on time
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
20-30 hours
I've been trying to get people to rate their usage in percent per hour (%/hr) makes waaaay more sense.
For example, with data always on, wifi on and off through out the day, I'd say light to moderate usage- I'm pulling in 5-6%/hr. Which is pretty good for stock. My Evo pulled down about 8%/hr stock.
With CM7, and Tiamat or SavagedZen kernel on OnDemand with the Evo I averaged 2.2%/hr. Just waiting for the E4GT to get all up to speed in the mean time.
With 3.5 hours of constant data use yesterday, my phone was at 63%, so constant use all the way would be about 7-8 hours. I'm talking about surfing, pandora, in a crappy signal area pretty much all the time (I have ALOT of downtime at work). That puts my EVO to shame. It would be dead in 3.5 hours, lol
17.5 hours on time.
1hr 15 minutes screen on
70% battery left
I also use Data Switch to shut off my 3g connection when not in use so I typically have pretty decent battery life.

Oh man, with data turned off my Evo would last Days. With data off I averaged bout 1.1%/hr.
You also have to take into account that the batteries need to be "broken in" by charging and discharging several cycles to be able to tap into the full capacity of the battery.
I have noticed that my battery gets sucked down if I am in a low signal area otherwise I get about 10 hours.

OP, the issue is network related. Your phone has no reception so it's either roaming or searching for signal. Unplug you Air rave if its not working with the phone because all that will do is make the problem worse. Use JuiceDefender to control your data networking and as far as cell reception goes (calls/texts) either use airplane mode or just leave it on and try it out. See if that helps you. Some users have been complaining of signal issues with the ET4G, you may want to try a Photon (I know this phone I'd far superior) but Motorola gets the best reception!
anyhow, goodluck and post your findings plz

17-20 hours of moderate use
I got to 33% after 6 hours, so it looks like 9 hours for me, listening to podcast while getting ready and listening to Pandora for 30 minutes during the commute over 4G. Then wifi the rest of the day at work, checking emails and making calls.
I tend to think that if not for Exchange Active Sync, I'd probably get more like 12-15 hours.

[Q] Whats your battery life like?

I haven't seen a battery life thread for the AT&T S3, so I'll start one.
Mine is around 13 hours with moderate use. I listen to podcasts for an hour in the morning (commute to work), read Pulse News and Facebook for about an hour at lunch, and listen to another hour of podcasts for the commute back home. By the time I get home, I'm around 13% life. I usually get the battery warning while listening to my podcast. In comparison, my GNex GSM gets 17 hours with the same use pattern. When I get home, I'm usually around 37%. Besides Samsung's and AT&T's bloatware, same apps, no widgets.
All told, I am very disappointed with battery life. I don't believe in underclocking my CPU in or disabling haptic feedback. I use the "Power Saver" mode, but only use the reduced screen power consumption feature (reduces framerates and brightness). WFI is always off (I don't have WIFI at work). I also disabled all of the Motion features. I disabled S-Voice (it monitors for the Hi Galaxy, and disabling also allows for a very responsive Home button).
I calculated my idle battery drain (unplugged when fully charged and not touch it) at around 4.4% per hour. That only gives 22.7 hours of standby! My Galaxy Nexus GSM can go at least 2 days (sometimes I forget to charge it at night on the weekends - also not used the phone).
Is it AT&T's LTE? Is it the Gsiff_daemon process? Is it TouchWiz? Or is it just my phone?
What's your battery life like?
You pretty much hit it right on the head. I had the extended battery from Samsung on my Gnex and could easily get 20 hours with moderate usage.
This phone despite using CM10 or AOKP with the JB kernel I never see battery life that good. I'm in the 14-15 hour range with about 3 hours of screen on time. That's with wifi off, and we don't have LTE yet. All in all, it isn't very good.

Stock? What features do you have turned off? Do you use WIFI exclusively? Do you turn off your data network (LTE/HSPA)? Did you turn off Sync?
I don't use WIFI, and I leave my data on (as it should be - just like I had it on my GNex). I also leave sync on. I understand that using these decrease battery life, but come on... not like this. The GNex faired very well, and it had a smaller battery. Besides LTE and an S4 (and the S4 should be more power efficient), there isn't much different between the GNex and the S3.
If I turn on the screen for 8 hours, there won't be enough for sleep time! It'll just die... if it even makes it to 8 hours...
20+ hrs with multiple accounts syncing at 1 to 2hr intervals, screen on time of average 4hrs. Heavy use. Wifi on all the time.
stock, rooted, debloated, super-aggressive power management I was getting maybe 12 hours with 2 hours screen time.
I saw you didn't believe in underclocking, but I started using Cpu Editor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798765 and am loving it, can do 16 hours and 4 hours of screen time with no problems, will do the trick for me.

Just use cpu tuner, It has profiles for each level of battery life so it gradually slows down your cpu's. You can get performance and bat' life.

my battery drains a lot when i'm on wifi even when my screen isn't on. I get on average 14 hours running 1.4 GHz
You have a faulty radio.
I consistently get 40+ hours off charger with 4-5 hours screen on time with a couple hours of browsing, 3-4 hours of music, texts, an hour of calls or so, playing casual games for another hour.
Stock. No hacks. No root. Disabled all unnecessary carrier and samsung apps and disabled GPS unless i need it. Auto brightness, 2 hours sync for weathereye, flipboard and gmail syncing all the time. I do mostly use Wifi at home because my signal at home is bad and that quickly drains my battery. At work my phone idles for eight hours at a 2-3 % loss with 3G on (i use my old SIM, i do not have an LTE plan, I am on Rogers Wireless).

You consistently (or have ever got) get 40+ hours off charger with 4 to 5 hours of screen time? Do you have your phone hooked up to a car battery?
I just factory reset (wiped data and cache) the phone and installed the apps I need (maybe something was badly configured or something) - did that yesterday night. Charged it up for this morning, and now I got 18 hours and still have 17% left. Screen on time says 1:38 hours.
This is on the same stock rooted and deodexed ROM. No hotboots either, so gsiff_daemon didn't rear it's ugly head.
Also no CPU Sleeper or any of these underclocking apps. I'm happy now, but wondering wtf was causing the problem... and will it happen again (after all, this is only day one).
I'm getting about 13 hours with 5 and a half hours of screen time. Underclocked to 1.2ghz and I have my own screen off profile. Great battery in my opinion

Phone finally died. Just over 19 hours. Heavy use towards the end because I was downloading and installing the rest of my apps from Google Play & Amazon App Store. Was also setting the apps up ( accounts, settings, and notifications...). Final screen on time was about 2 hours.
It's only been two days since I've had the phone, I've gotten about 14 hrs with roughly 3.5 hrs screen on time. I hate when I see people with 2 days off the charger and ridiculous screen on time. If you put the phone in airplane mode and ran just the screen you probably wouldn't last 10 hrs unless it was on low brightness. I had the Razor Maxx and I could get around 30 hrs usage with 4-5 hrs talk and 6 hrs screen on and that's the best battery life I've ever gotten on any phone with real usage.
I would like to get better stand by and more screen time out of this phone without getting an extended battery.

No airplane mode. Cellular connection is always on even during the night. Only difference is at home i have wifi on instead of data.
Flipboard, weathereye and an appsales app syncing every 4 hours. Auto sync for google account and facebook. Automatic brightness. Almost all samsung and Rogers apps disabled (except for myaccount and a couple samsung apps) and motion disabled since i have no use for the gestures apart from being a novelty the first week.
No root. No hacks. I am actually amazed. This is the first android phone that has battery life on par with my iPhone 4 and the unparalleled smoothness. My HTC One X lagged, this never does even with a few apps installed now including games. I look at my iPhone and think "why do i still keep it? It is no longer relevant".
Ive got my UV tweaked just right on my ktoonez kernel and keeping my screen level as low as can be and I'm now practically making it to TWO days battery life! Plug in every second afternoon or evening after moderate use. Occasionally it doesn't last as long. Quite happy now. Oh and that's with this baby cranked to 1.809Ghz! But obviously tweaked to use that under strain otherwise using lower clocks and deep sleeping with 384mhz.
Got a 4200mah extended battery on way and can't wait to see how much I can squeeze out of it too.

My GS3 i747m lasts around 50-55 hours per charge cycle..
It is running stock Rogers GS3 ICS, not rooted, all stock. Battery is stock as well.
Not using LTE, using HSPA+ ("4G") with data turned ON with Sync turned OFF
(**NOTE: sometimes, the battery is drained due to poor reception, and the phone will use more power for the cellular signal.. In my case, my 3G connection in my area seems alright for the most part, about 1 bar less from full)
Power saving is turned ON. WiFi powersave is turned ON.
Moderated WiFi usage in 2.4ghz 802.11g-mode only.
Every night when I go to sleep, my flight mode is turned ON. (I sleep around 9-10 hours everyday, so the phone stays on flight mode for 9-10 hours a day)
In the morning, I turn the flight mode OFF.
Bluetooth, GPS both are turned OFF
Screen brightness turned 1/4 brightness
LED notification turned OFF
Also, I have a task killer killing ALL BACKGROUND SERVICES every half hour.
Without killing all the background apps, my RAM usage is around 600-700 MB out of 1.6 GB of RAM
Killing all the background apps brings the RAM usage to around 360 MB of 1.6 GB
Without killing background apps, my battery life is shortened even when the phone is on standby.
Do this, and your battery life is pretty good..

Another Battery Life Thread

Got my Galaxy S III about a week ago and I love it but the battery is draining so fast. I've done a lot of standard changes such as shutting off live wall paper, disabling radios, dim screen to lowest setting... and I still can't get 24 hours out of the thing. Last night I let the batter drain to 5%, shut it off and charged it over night. Today here are my stats:
Battery left 52%
Length of Battery Use: 8h 9m
Cell Standby: 31% : Time on 8h 9m : Time without Signal 0%
Screen: 16% : Time On 57m 26s
Maps: 10%
I did a run today for 45 min using both Spotify and Runkeeper which combined only took 11% (very happy with that). But since then the cell stand by is eating eating up the battery life at 31% over 8 hours with no signal loss.
I read a few posts about cell standby reporting wrong on the international version of the S III. Any one else seeing anything similar with Sprint version? BTW this is all 3G, I don't live near any 4G LTE and I did disable the LTE radio just in case.
I really don't want to but I'm considering returning it simply based on the battery life alone. Someone please save me from doing this!

Try going to developer options in settings and selecting 'limit background processes to 4'. This helps reduce the amount of times my phone would just start cooking in my pocket for no reason, consequently helping my battery life tremendously. Haptic feedback off, auto brightness, gps off, wireless on, no lte, and with medium usage at home I'm getting 20 hours. Light usage it's well over a day.

[Q] Battery drain 1% per minute is this normal?

Just picked up a used GNex and thought everything was great until i started using it. I have a regular and an extended battery both exhibiting near instantaneous battery drain til it gets down to about 70 - 60 percent and slows down a little. disabled auto rotate and GPS with brightness turned all the way down. using liquidsmooth and also reverted to stock- rooted with same results.
All in all from full charge to completely drained I get about 6 hours with light to moderate use. It takes about 6 - 7 hours to charge as well.
I knew the Gnex was a battery eater but this seems a little much.

yes, VZW phone. I don't know what you mean by screen on time, how do I check that?
Also wanted to mention that I did wipe batterys stats when flashing and with liquid the default lean kernel settings
another thing I noticed is when charging the batter goes from 100% to 99% pretty frequently.
Like I said I'm new to the GNex but this kind of battery life actual makes me want to go back to the TBolt.

you check your screen on time by going into settings, then battery, then tap/click on the screen. then you'll see the screen on time. since you are using 4.1 JB on LTE device, I don't think the battery life would be that good, but we need to know the screen on time to know if there is a problem or if it's normal
using it heavy for 6 hours total battery time and getting 3-4.5 hours screen on time is normal. using it lightly for 6 hours total battery time and getting 1 hour of screen on time is not normal. heck, i get great battery life, but i can kill my battery within 5 hours, but ill get 4.5 hours screen on time(gsm gnex).

hate to say it but that probably answers my question. If I had to guess I would say the screen was on most of the time as it is new to me so getting things set up and such. will try some of the tips I found around these parts and report back.
flashed latest official image from Google and got nearly 13 hrs. on battery with nearly 3 hrs screen time while on 3g most of the day.
so I think it is either 4g or maybe something to do with the bootloader which was on ja003 before. IDK but reasonably happy with battery now.

GA10 Battery Question

Ok so I used to be in the JellyBam Rom and I really liked it but my battery was pretty bad. I was lucky if i got 12 hours with an hour of screen time. So people on this forum had mentioned I should try stock rooted GA10 and I would see a great improvement in my battery. Well 2 days ago I took the leap and One Clicked GA10 and to be honest I see no real difference in battery. I do get some extra stand by time but still only about an hour of screen time. For example i took my phone off charge 3 hours ago...sent a few texts and an hour phone call and my battery is down too %63. What am i doing wrong? I have Deep Sleep Battery Saver installed and screen brightness is on auto. I also have all sync off. Why is my battery still ****ty. My phone and battery is only 4 or 5 months old. I also have 1 widget and no live wallpaper. Please help
The battery saver programs often use more battery. Delete that stuff and use the phone like normal.
