[Q] Xperia Play Verizon Question - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an xperia play by verizon.
What I am trying to do is unlock the bootloader. But when I dial the number which is like *#*#... and so on I check I don't see bootloader at all?
I really need to get off gingerbread ive been on it for like 6 months and all the good games require 4+ etc. I wouldn't mind going to ICS but i do prefer jellybean
I search this forum for something simular couldnt find anything thats why i signed up.
To sum it up. I think my bootloader is locked. and cant be open. is there another way of getting a custom rom 4+ on my phone?

You dont need to check for anything,(Skip 1 & 2) and just enter your MEID number. (MEID number by entering *#06# on your phone)

Well I also have the play from Verizon (r800x is the model BTW) and I unlocked my play via Sony method so just follow my guide here and then follow a guide to install ICS/JB... but JB is not as "complete" as ics btw

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762372 found this thread people seem to say it works but with no gamepad support.

ima look into all this when I get home.
I know I sound like a noob. but can you guys confirm a few things?
Can Xperia play verizon x version goto 4+?
Can I do it by following the MEID method? As in, installing 4+ JB
Will I have full function of camera, which I use daily, and will I have 100% funtionality of the hardware keys? (x.o, etc r1, l1)
Will I be able to root my phone and run super user?

THIS will answer some of your questions. The first 3 will need to be done first before you flash a Rom. The only way to have 4.0+ is to flash a custom Rom and make sure its compatible for CDMA.

what do you mean by done first?
Cant i just put the rom on? or is there a 4+ rom with everything working

If you want 100% gamepad functionality without any workarounds, stay on stock. Otherwise, you would do well with CyanogenMod 9.

[Q] Can anyone post to root 4.0.4 kernel the OneClick way? [Arc S]

Need help regarding my Arc S
i am on locked bootloader 4.0.4 ics. I dont want to unlock bootloader and do any fast boot mode, cwm or to remain in 4.0.3 kernel with skipping 4.0.4 kernel while flashing to 4.0.4 full update, then flashing 4.0.4 individually later way , etc ...
I understand both 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 kernel version are same but still 4.0.4 isn't rootable the old Root Exploit One Click way, which was used for 4.0.3 . So definately there could be some difference mayb better battery performance, they would have locked to not be able to root the old way and something new is needed for it? i mean they maybe would have just modified the same kernel version...
so please would highly appreciate anyone's help if one can provide me root 4.0.4 kernel the One Click way .

That's exactly what he said he DIDN'T want to do. LOL!
@shantusingh, there is no other way currently known to root 4.0.4 other than the steps you mentioned in your first step.

thanks for understanding and for letting me know, though hope one simple way comes out soon..
my basic idea is as like many others, we try different generic and in end we would only want our generic to be running when it officially comes because maybe we get less bloatware, better performance or could be anything..
so i want when i get 4.0.4 update then i cleanely update with root one click way... to get everything my generic with root in the end, even if other generic's kernel verison, etc be the same...
So i am counting on the genius devs here!
if we don't get root one click way for 4.0.4, then my other idea is i will officially update 4.0.4 via pc camp when it comes to india .. and when i get it i will check it with the 4.0.3's kernel version screenshot that i will already save to pc. So if they will be the same.... i will then only flash 4.0.3's kernel then will root my phone the old one click way ....
after that then will flash my phone with 4.0.4's kernel from 4.0.4 update ftf which was leaked on xda as i wont mind flashing other generic if everything matches. So i then will get it confirmed everything from stock that what i got in my region was the same aswell i didn't missed anything and will in end have stock 4.0.4 with stock 4.0.4 kernel(of other generic, but if version and everything will be same so can say indian kernel aswell) rooted! this way. Will do all this only if root one click simple way isn't developed for 4.0.4
Hope people understood what i am tring to explain the logic, it is very complex and absurd but all in the end all i am asking is to get same simple way to root 4.0.4 in the end

[Q] R800X 2.3.3 to 2.3.4???

Hey guys, I have a problem. I bought a Sony Xperia Play, the Verizon version on ebay and it works like a champ. But Its on 2.3.3 and I really want it on 2.3.4! The phone has no service so I cant update it to the 2.3.4 over the connection. Please, there must be a way to download the 2.3.4 update for the R800x version and flash it to the phone. And I need step my simple noob step instructions as to how to do this, if there's a way, because other forums that I have seen are far to complicated and doesn't explain in good detail. Thanks again

Trust us r800x users when we say you do not want 2.3.4. It sucks, stay with 2.3.3. Also, I'm certain that verizon scraped the update because they screwed it up so badly.(bad service, if any, no wifi, massive compatibility issue with apps, etc.) I myself went back to 2.3.3 because 2.3.4 was so bad.

It is highly recommended that you do not update to 2.3.4, as it has massive compatibility issues.
2.3.3 to 2.3.4
Is it really that bad? Because I thought it was good. Well is there a way for my phone to get the Time Scape ui on it, and for it to record 720p? I know the official update allowed he recording. Any help its greatly appreciated.
You could flash a custom rom.

Absolutely. Stay with 2.3.3 unless you are an advanced user and with to load a custom ROM.
What custom rom has 720p and a cool ui on top, like the official update offered?
Also, How on earth do you put the phone in fastboot, flash ''img'' files to it, and type commands into it. Im really confused as to how that works

actually there are some gsm based roms that work with cdma stock locked bootloader that just break phone functionality
(OP seems to have no service anyways...)

Other options
Thought I would chime in here. Not sure why every one is hating on stock 2.3.4. Oh wait yea I do lol. Anyway if your not using the phone part itself instead of paying to unlock you could just root and try Gin2Ics. I know the theme works on stock 2.3.4 but the dialer and contacts are messed up and no service as well as battery stats being broke. There is also a 2.3.4 ftf file now in the dev section.
There is another thread in the dev section where they are trying to port some stuff to the vzw 2.3.4.
Okay, sorry for the late response guys, but I now have my bootloader unlocked!! Yes! Now, my final question is how do I get Timescape ui and all the SE goodness on my r800X? And I know I keepbringing it up, but can I get 720p record feature? Any rom that can offer that, Im cool.

Locked Bootloader
You'll need to unlock your bootloader bro. If your Xperia is a debranded phone (bought directly from Sony) you can unlock it for free.
If you're under a carrier company, you need to check the following:
In your dialer, please put this code: *#*#7378423#*#* and if you made it corretly, it will display the service menu.
Go to Service info-configuration
Go down and see the Rooting status.
If "Bootloader unlock is allowed" says "Yes", congratulations, you can unlock your bootloader for free; otherwise you'll need to pay about $25 to unlock it. In the process your phone will be SIM free, so you can put any carrier SIM if you want.
This is the official site instructions:
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
¡Good luck!
Once you've got all the bootloader/rooting stuff figured out, I recommend XDarkICS ROM. It has extensive gamepad/touchpad support and is based off of Sony Stock ICS. Almost no bugs. Use DoomLord's ICS beta V3 kernel if you choose this ROM.

if you mean like on the phone? then all it has is usb debugging stay awake and allow mock locations, nothing about a bootloader -_-

The Xperia Play isn't officially able to be updated to 4.1. It will probably be stuck on Gingerbread (2.3.x) forever, but you can get 4.1 on it at the cost of your warranty. To do this, you will need to flash a custom rom. You can find a couple of guides in the general or development sections.
There is a beta from for the play on Sony's website but its only 4.0 which is ICS. But I would stay on gingerbread as this is the best for gaming

[Q] Unlocked Bootloader and Rooting

Hi, I am new to Android and rooting and had a couple questions. I will be getting the Xperia Play R800x soon. If you get the bootloader unlocked from SE, do you still need to root the device? I have been trying to get everything ready for when I get the phone. I have Android SDK and Flashtool installed. If I want to get the NXT Light Edition Rom, do I need a custom kernel as well? Thanks.

If you get your bootloader unlocked and flash a custom kernel/ROM no you dont need to root as nearly all, if not all come with root. Seen as you have flashtool and everything else use a custom kernel. If you want to return to stock then just reflash a ftf file for r800x , make sure you dont flash a ftf for r800i though. I dont have the link handy but there is a thread here with all ftf files. Just search in XdA
