Hi, i have an HTC Desire Z with the latest update (i thinnk at least); Android version 2.3.3, HTC Sense 2.1, Software number 2.42.405.4
Can i use the HTC Quick Root?
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:
Not sure what htc quick root is, if your reffering to the htc unlocked bootloader that doest root your phone rather just unlocks the bootloader, then you can root
That method may seem easier at first but is a pain in the long run. Follow the xda wiki or strawmetals pdf guide to root, there are a number of threads here on xda explaining this. If you take a few moments to learn how to do it this way the payoff is huge

Sup guys. I need help with rooting my HTC Desire HD, i want to use Unrevoken but i have a problem: in the compitable list it says htc desire not htc desire hd, does the hdh also counts as a desire? Thx guys and sorry for my bad english

Hi xOMG. I am not sure about Unrevoken, but as far as I know, the Desire HD actually can be rooted using VISIONary+ app.
The app has been removed in the Market. But you can go to this site and download the apk file for installation. http://android.modaco.com/content/software/320350/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
You may consider downloading any file explorer from the market so that you can install the apk file. Read the steps carefully before you use VISIONary+. Do it at your own risks. Lol.
EDIT: Oh by the way, your English is not bad and its perfectly understandable. Really.
Cheers. =)
I tried V+ but it "Crashes" after the black screen, had to wait more then a minute, is that okay? Should i try it again?

I am at version number 1.8....
I need to downgrade to root. I was always of the understanding that my device was already rooted I have s-off and i just checked in bootloader.
I just want to know what is the best way to back up my data before hand?
So once i am rooted i can put it straight back on?
Yes. You have to have build number below 1.72xxxxxx in order you to use VISIONary+ to root your device. Else the rooting process will not work. I have my build number 1.32xxxxxx when I first bought my Desire HD. So it means I do not need to do any downgrading.
Pauly_k, in the first place, what are you planning to back-up? The stock ROM? If you are planning to switch to other ROMs, the app ROM Manager from the market, can be used as a tool to switch ROMs and also back-up ROMs. If apps and everything I would recommend Titanum Back-Up app.
When you do a Radio S-OFF and/or ENG S-OFF exercise, you do not need to on and off it back everytime. You can just leave it OFF all the time. It will not affect your device in everything e.g. performance. OFFing it allow you to gain full access into other area in your device such as to flash new radios.
Unless you wish you send back your device to HTC for say, warranty purpose, then yes of course you have to ON it back. Lol.
Cheers.
I just purchased my desire hd and I would appreciate if someone would tell me if and how to s-off and if it is possible to root 2.3.3 gingerbread.
Thank you.

You will find all you need in the stickies in development section. If you are new to this I would recomend that you spend some time reading before getting into it.
Good luck
It is few threads before u make this one.
Since Gingerbreak will not work with OTA

It is quite difficult to root desire HD. It would be very nice if someone who knows how to do it, to make a CLEAR post from A-z. First downgrade? S-off? Adb errors? Gold card? It's a LOT of stuff to read out there about how to do it right but since there are many changes and updates since the first rooted phone, it would be nice if someone will do this from scratch.
Thanks in advance.

its not difficult either,
1. install visionary+ from android market.
enable debugging from settings> application >development.
on visionary press TEMP ROOT after it done (sometimes took 2 or more tries)
then press PERM root.
there u go u have permanent root htc desire hd (works only with 1.32.405 ver)

I suggest that you just do some reading and learn it. I have spent dozens of hours working on my guides and tools, and 99% of the people who are capable of reading, succeed in the process.
The guides cannot become any easier. Downgrade is your first step, follow the thread. Then there is a link to Radio S-OFF tool in the end of downgrade guide. Follow that link.. You get the point.
In short what you need to do...

I kinda understand where this guy is coming from. I'm fully confident on the actual root process, my problem lies in actual downgrading. Fair play it will take an idiots guide to get me rooted on my hd. Just wished it was as simple as my G1 was.
I'm aware of needing an sdk file to downgrade, but the guides here don't reflect on that.
In no way is my post meant to be or sound disrespectful in anyway. You guys here do an amazing job, you really do and I (as many others) here appreciate it 100%.
My reasons for root are solely selfish. I want root to allow for use of cachemate louder volume hack and hopefully better battery life.
In my G1 days I had to flash my fone like a whore flashes her pants, but that was just to keep he phone usable.

Thank you audiavant for more specific instructions.
Anyway last day I was stuck when trying to downgrade. I have HTC sync but not the desire sdk and maybe because of that, Adb was not working. I'll try again this evening, hopefully don't get a brick after that

This kind of post I was looking for.
Thank you again!
Hi,
I'm trying to root my Desire HD using the official HTC Bootloader Unlocker.
At the very first step, how do I deal with the .exe RUU file since I'm using a mac ?
Do I REALLY have to get a Windows installation to get it done ?
Thanks,
I wouldn't use the official HTC method. Causes more pain than it does good. Just use the advance AC hack kit

One hour ago, I didn't even know this one-click-all-in-one-superdupertool existed, and right now my telephone is rooted.
Cheers.
Hello,
I just got my new HTC desire Z to replace an HTC Inspire as I missed having a physical keyboard. I'd like to run Energy's rom as I have previously on other phones, but looking around it seems as though this phone is more of a PITA. So I haven't even powered it on yet, but before I do, don't update the oem software, correct? I need to unlock and root before I do any upgrade?
Thanks in advance!
Brad
Here's the rom I'd like to run...

Yep don't upgrade. If your phone already has upgraded firmware then you'll have to downgrade before rooting. Follow the wiki for rooting g2/dz found on xda, this is the safest way to do so and if you read first and understand the basics you'll be done in under an hour easily
