Stock Kernels (look under ZIP DIR)
http://rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710)/Kernels/
Jellybean came with SPH-L710_LJ7_Stock_Kernel.zip
Here's a modded ma4 kernel...
boot.img support, init.d, custom bootanimation & adb...
http://db.tt/IpBAdPhn
Thanks guys but after realizing all the versions of the kernel I just want these latest version that works with PACman rom. I don't know if there are 4.2 only kernels but whatever is the latest for non 4.2 roms.
Thanks.

Which zip file do I choose for the kernel? They all seem different.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
The question still stands. I have no idea what SIH MA4 or LJ7 stand for or what type my phone is.
Cheers.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
MA4 was the Jellybean 4.1.2 leak
LJ7 was the Jellybean official update (4.1.1)
Sent from my PG06100
So I should choose SJ7?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Looking back at your question and your replies above, I can tell you that there are NO 4.2 stock kernels, because that update hasn't even come yet
Now if you want the kernel for 4.1.2, grab the MA4 boot.img that ImEVO posted above
If you want the kernel for 4.1.1, find a rom based on that (it'll say LJ7 in the thread title, meaning its based on that update) and grab its boot.img (the kernel is stored in there)

Post the boot image an I'll extract the kernel for you from it
The boot.img contains other stuff too, so its probably best to make a backup and then just flash the kernel

Hello, I currently have the Bell Canada SGS3.
I was thinking about trying some different kernels out for my device, but I wanted to be sure I had a backup of the STOCK KERNEL in case I want to revert back to STOCK. Is there a way I can extract it from my phone, or has someone posted it already, I couldn't seem to find the a post when looking.
Thank you

System Settings -> About device -> Read the "Baseband version" and it should say L900VPALJ1 because that is what the device shipped with
Now only if somebody can make an all in one that includes: firmware/baseband/modem that would be awesome!

It will automatically update everything without going back to stock etc. That way all we wait for is the updated rom with the new baseband/firmware based

I've been playing with a few of the kernels available for 4.2.x so far and wanted to get back to the stock kernel in between testing kernels out. Also good for those who may have accidentally flashed a 4.1.2 kernel. This is a flashable CWM 4.2 Galaxy Nexus JOP40C kernel. Tested and working on my stock/rooted 4.2/4.2.1 GNex. As always, flash at your own risk.
Thanks to kalo86 for providing the AOSP ROM 4.2 zip where the boot image came from. :good:

Thank you. This is definitely very helpful for people like me who aren't aware that custom kernel wouldn't be backwards compatible.
However, I'm using nexus 7, just wondering how could I extract the stock kernel from the nexus 7 factory image?
(I understand that this isn't a nexus 7 post but I'm just asking a general question on how to get the stock kernel hope that's ok)
I assume this kernel wouldn't work for my device either?
Thanks in advance.

Good question. I will create a stock kernel flash for the Nexus 7 (as I have one as well) and post it up there in the N7 XDA forum.
Also, the kernel is the boot.img file located in the zip for ROMs. You can fastboot install it, or make it into a CWM file which is good in case you don't have a computer with ADB nearby. Link to N7 Stock kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34254473
Thanks!
Thank you for ur reply. Definitely gonna save me lots of time!
How do you make it a cwm file? Just zipping the .img file?
Also, I can't seems to boot into cwm recovery without a toolkit is that normal for installing an incorrect custom kernel?

The title of this thread states 4.2/4.21, so my guess would be no on 4.1.2
Hey everyone this was my first time trying to deodex a rom and i was finally able to boot it. Anyways this is based on the leak that was provided to us by Sextape. I used Cygwin to deodex the rom and sign it.
Anyways the important stuff is that this is the first De-odexed MA4 so far that I have seen.
One problem is that it install, but when you reboot the system it will hang at the Samsung Screen (so its a problem with the stock kernel), so to get it to boot make sure you have a secondary kernel downloaded such as: Agat, Anthax, or Ktoonz and install it after you install the zip.
I am going to fix the kernel thing in the morning. For now I am tired. Good day everyone.
The ROM included Root, Superuser, Zip-aligned APK's, and De-odexed System and APK's
This rom does not have Multi View. It is the 4.1.2 update from Sprint.
Warning: I am not responisible for anything that happens to your phone; whether it blows up in your face or gets bricked
Download:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390288116658472348
Install instructions:
1. Download Rom
2. Place it in your SD card
3. Boot into Recovery (only tested on CWM)
4. Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik
5. Install zip
6. Install a secondary kernel like Agats LJ7 or Ktoonz latest TW kernel or Anthrax
7. Fix permissions in recovery
8. Boot up and ENJOY
