Why can't I send/receive texts suddenly? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I was using my phone normally day after day like calls, texts, internet, etc until I reverted back to stock from a jellybean Rom, can't remember which though, and ever since I can't send our receive texts. It shows that the texts send successfully but the receiver never gets the text. Help?

You can't receive them either, right? What about phone calls? What kind of signal does your phone show? Haven you verified your IMEI number?

Yeah I get phone calls both to and from. My phone has more then half bars of signal. I have no clue about the IMEI honestly. Thanks for the quick response!

You will lose your text threads but you could try clearing your messaging data and cache and reboot

The one called messaging. If this does not work, power down the phone and remove the battery and sim card. Leave out for 5 or so minutes and reinstall. Power back up

Voicemail notification stuck

My VM notification in the top bar of the phone wont go away. I listened to all my messages yesterday after noon and the notification went away, then phone died later last night. Charged it until it would reboot and now voicemail in the top bar is back, no voicemails.
Already tried a battery pull....
how do I get it to go away again?. Do I have to wipe the phone? I hope not.
100% stock not rooted.
Thanks

From another phone. Leave a message listen to the whole thing wait till it tells you to push 7 to delete then delete it. Atleast that's what works for me.

Why you should turn off MMS auto retrieve

I've learned my lesson. Lol.

Do you have a lot of people send you pictures? I have never had an issue with the messaging system using that much cpu.

I had data off and my friend sent me a picture of clouds for some reason. Really important. Then that happened.

That's why it happened cause you had data off. Messaging knew it needed to download a pending image but couldn't, so just sat there waiting indefinitely.
That's strange, I would think that he messaging app would just wait until you activated your data again. Not constantly trying to download the picture.

New thread: Why you shouldn't have data off! :silly:
Yeah I see a lot of people that have problems when the turn off data. I understand it saves a little battery but it causes a lot of issues.

Some carriers (T-Mobile) don't use the regular data connection for MMS. Until I got this phone I did not have a data plan and still received MMS like any other text message.
I have auto retrieve off and if I don't download the mms right away it still keeps my phone awake
Next time, tell em to email pics. Lol

Yeah! Why does anyone use MMS anyway? lol
Maybe he didn't have a smartphone. But even basic phones can email these days.
Hope this thread is still alive, I didn't wanna make another topic.
So I have my data off all the time because it saves SOOO much battery, every now and then someone will send me a pic though, I have auto retrieve on, but when I get the notification, and turn on my data, it won't download the image until they send me another picture. :/
would having auto retrieve off fix this? Or is this some other kind of issue?

Friend not recieving msgs?!?!?!

Ive been textin with this friend and everytime i text her she doesnt get my msgs or she barely gets some from me.. ive texted other people as well and they all get them just her... so what could the problem be?? I tryed different msgn apps, different rom and both ics nd jb they all do the same... are the vpn settimgs wrong or messed up and need to be update or changed or what??? Please help!!!

She's lying lol
Sounds to me like the problem is on her end not yours.
If texting everyone else works fine except for texting to her.....
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
It's either a problem on her end or plain and simple she's lying. If you really want to get to the bottom of it, next time you're with her send her a text and look at her phone that's the best answer anyone can give you. If she really does not get the message the problem is on her end.

I've seen similar things happen, seemed to be a network problem, account problem or phone not checking in type of problem.
Has it continued since she got all the back texts all at once? Does she receive texts from other people or miss those too?
First try a simple reboot if you haven't already. Send her a text and if she doesn't get it have her toggle airplane mode on/off. Try with wifi calling on and off.
Back up contacts and messages and in Application Management clear cache and data on contacts, dialer storage, dialer, and messaging.
It'd be strange for the battery to cause that, but put the old one back in and test it out.
If her phone is rooted, make a nandroid. Try a different modem. Try clear dalvik, cache and if needed data/factory reset.
If all fails call tmobile and ask to reprovision the account.
Good luck!

Did you try adding just in delivery reports for sms and mms?
Also is this intra or inter carrier. That can cause a delay as well.

Sms disappearing

Randomly while sending texts or receiving them, my texts randomly disappear or auto hide when I open the app. Other times you can see the messages for a split second then they will disappear saying "your message inbox is empty".
There are also times when I will be in a conversation Window and after replying to a message the message content will disappear and when I back out there will be no messages there either.
Anyone know what the hell is going on? I've restored, deleted cache including dalvik and even installed a new rom twice. The only reason I rooted was to fix this issue.

I'm having the same thing happen to me and the only way to fix it is restart my phone
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
At least I known in not the only one now. This restarting my phone crap gets old fast. Plus restarting once doesn't always fix the issue.
I know others have had this problem. Please come forward!

This is a bump. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
Seriously, can't i get someone who knows these phones good to post on here? I am really getting tired of having to restart my phone whenever i send a text message...it's getting old FAST...

I am currently running Odexed blue by Team Vennum. I only flashed this rom and rooted because i lost all ability to copy/paste AND this started happening. I was "putting up with" not being able to copy/paste, but once this happened a few times on stock, it was the last straw.

Sometimes I get a notification saying "target server failed" when I send texts and the text doesn't go through. How do I fix that.

Need a lil more information...like rom and messaging app? Possibility there is an overloaded network in your area, cuz that's definitely not rom related per say.

Well try it on go sms and see what happens. if its still not going through it'd be a network issue of loss of signal.
