Hi Guys,
I have LTE coverage where I am, but phone keeps going to 4G.
Is there any way to force it so it stays on LTE?
I have tried the following app but no luck. Once I select the LTE Only mode it switches to WCDMA Preferred mode some how.
LTE OnOFF - HTC Thunderbolt, https://play.google.com/store/search?q=lte+on+off
Any way, any idea any one??
Thanks
If it keeps dropping back to 4G then the LTE service probably isn't strong enough where you are. You can't just force it on either. That's like forcing any service at all in the middle of the ocean.

Previous poster is right.
But u can play around. Reboot to recovery, wipe cache, reboot. Flash different ROMs, usually one Stock based, another AOKP - I believe modems are vastly different there.
The only way to fix this is make a new APN there's a post on skyrocket fourms that shows you how

I have done forcing on other devices such as Galaxy Nexus, currently using Sierra 754S that has feature where you can force it to stay on LTE, and it stays put.. Only problem it gets WICKED HOT if I pump a lot of data
Assuming you subscribed with your provider for LTE-service, then definitely it's because your LTE coverage is not great.
If you've never seen your phone connect to LTE before, I suggest you contact your provider and make sure you are on their LTE-network.
LTE-device doesn't automatically mean you're getting LTE service. I've seen people make that incorrect assumption.
Well, all you really need is LTE Sim card for AT&T, it works awesome ... as I said it works great with Sierra 754S air card.
So any device that has LTE capability it works perfect with that.

No voice coverage on Lte so the phone still needs hspa to make and Recieve calls and text messages. Until all the voice over Lte and hand off standards are in place Lte is a data only feature.
On a data stick it makes sense to allow an Lte only mode but on a phone it would not be a good idea.

Maybe I missed this but I didn't think that Sprints 3G service allowed for simultaneous voice and data.
I'm in Canton, Ohio and I just noticed that today I'm able to both use the phone and browse the Web at the same time without WIFI.
I can only assume that this is a network vision thing. LTE isn't in my future for a little while but I thought this was a good sign. Anyone else notice this?

I noticed this in STL over the weekend, I am not sure how long it has been this way because like you I "knew" it didn't work so never tried it. I just happened to get an email while on a call.
SVDO isn't a network feature or capability. It's only dependent on the phone having multiple data and voice antennas, and the Galaxy S3 does.

So I can use data while on the phone with my Galaxy SIII??? Wow, that's AWESOME!:good:
Going to have to try this out once I'm in an area that isn't being 'visioned'.....right now I don't have connectivity even though my phone says that I do.
I found out the same way you guys did (im in Tampa) and did some reading and was really surprised to find out that our phones did out the box....made me love the phone even more.
Yes. Today. I received a call while downloading and it still downloading...nice.
Not like my Epic4g downloading a file 100mb and on 92mb some call you to say Hi!

This statement isn't exactly true. It is both a phone and network feature. The towers need to accept multiple connections from the same phone id, as well as the phone needs to have the multi channel capabilities. Sprint used to block this, but doesn't anymore.

Reading this thread I thought you have all gone bonkers, but since my sgs3 is not connected yet I couldn't test this myself. Well my coworker has the evo lte.....hmm they have the same internals so I got him to try, it certainly does work. This feature is not advertised, would be hilarious if sprint didn't even know this.

lmfao...another thought is this is not a part of the vision upgrade, just something to do with the s4 soc , I bet Verizons sgs3 along wIth other snapdragon powered phones can do it as well

I don't know anything about Samsung ads, but the SVDO capability is listed in all the spec sheets I've seen. Sprint had to request the capability from Samsung, so Sprint must know the feature is included.
This was discussed many times since this phone was released. Shows how much people search and or research their own phone.

Ha. When Sprint activates HD Voice, I anticipate a ton of threads with people asking why voice calls don't sound better on the S3. Then, they'll throw a fit when they're told the S3 doesn't support it. It's just like all the people in non-LTE areas asking why their 4G no longer works even though they had full signal on their Evo or Epic 4G. No one wants to spend time researching their purchases.
I have to admin
I have to admin that when I finally switched from my blackberry to the S3, I was so used to having wifi on that when I was on a call and my email was still coming in or I was able to launch a browser and look things up, I nearly went crazy. Being in IT I never looked up the phone specs to be honest other than being highly anxious to install applications from the Play Store and do things I couldn't do with my old device. Now I'm just looking for a good rom to root the device for wifi, lol.
I've been driving iSheep off the iphone5 with specifically this feature (not that there aren't at least a dozen more. I think that with the financial future of Sprint in the hands of Apple and the sales of iPhones the lack of dual antennas because it has a 'dynamic antenna' is going to cripple anyone who needs/wants that feature. To me SVDO is something that killed me when we didn't have it and now that I do I can never go without it.
Is anybody can explain then why when streaming the radio if I receive a text massage the radio stops (I know because of that ring) but it goes to buffer and chokes till start streaming again. This is the same as any other phone before so SVDS no benefit here.

No. The chipset does not support the SVDO capability.
http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-343-a-short-time-from-now-in-a-galaxy-not-far-away/
As for simultaneous voice and data, the Galaxy S4 does support SVLTE but is the latest in a long line of Sprint LTE handsets now to forgo SVDO. Realistically, this comes as no great surprise, as we have not seen SVDO capability in any new handset since last summer. Either this is a limitation of the Qualcomm MDM9615 baseband modem that has become standard equipment or SVDO is no longer a strong priority as Sprint LTE coverage grows weekly. Regardless, CDMA1X and EV-DO share a transmit path (indicated in the FCC OET diagram above); hence, simultaneous CDMA1X voice and EV-DO data is not supported.

Rogers I747M
Question to those with the Rogers I747M running stock.
When you get connected to LTE, does the on screen data indicator show 4G or LTE?
I unlocked my phone to get it onto the MTS LTE (Manitoba) network, but it's only showing up 4G and want to know if maybe Rogers modified the software to not display an LTE icon like the manual shows.
On a side note, the MTS LTE network SUCKS. So far I'm barely getting any good speeds and MTS claims everything is fine on the network side. I will continue to talk with them to hopefully get better speeds. If there's any MTS LTE members here, if you're getting good speeds, feel free to give me tips!
Cheers!
I was in Modesto last week and had lte, I was like "how the hell does Modesto have lte and sac doesn't" lol. I guess this answers my question.

the force switch from LTE -> 3G when a call comes in is causing problems
Anyone else see their phone take too long to switch from LTE to 3G when a call comes in? This results in the person calling getting rings and then voicemail, but no missed call on your device. It only happens when the LTE->3G switch takes a bit to get started...but I'm noticing it quite a bit.
I called AT&T and they just "reset" my account, but that had little effect. What gives??
(I'm in the Washington DC metropolitan area)

They are still working on the tower. I know a co-worker with the exact same problem who talked with AT&T. I heard that it might be a week before the problem is fixed. I'm on the UCLH1 modem myself, and haven't had any issues so far with texts, while she's on the UCLG1, if that means anything.

When I first got my galaxy s3, telus said it would come with 4g lte. It worked well and on the top notification section, it specifically said, 4g lte. Now I'm trying out custom roms and such, and I downloaded CM10. However, on CM10, the icon no longer says 4g lte, but it says H+. When I revert back to my old rom, it doesn't say 4G (i ahven't seen it say LTE at the end yet though). Anyone can tell me why my data connection has been demoted, or if it has been demoted at all? Should I just give Telus a call and ask whats up with this?
And yes, LTE is available in my area, I'm in Vancouver.

Jesus we're 20 miles from Connecticut covered in LTE and depending on your location on the island like 20 miles from the city where they also have it. You'd think they'd want to cover an island 70% filled with middle class families who ALL have a smartphone with a data plan

Yeah it's pretty bad. 1 in 5 calls go to VM with no missed call. I periodically get voicemails throughout the day. I'm on a rooted phone, but I didn't think that had much to do with it since all operations are pretty normal. (i'm on JB AOKP, SGS3)

Ok, ready to pull the trigger on a Note 2 but having the ET4G and the issues with reception, Im a little hesitant on Sammy phones now.. I love my Epic T but low up and download speeds kill me. Im missing calls and its not showing up in my call log and texts messages too. I have friends who have the GS3 and some love it and some hate it. Two friends can sit side by side with their SG3 and have totally different reception, I dont get it. I hear the radio and antenna are the same from the GS3 but wondering if the size of the antenna in the Note 2 has changed and if so, is that change enough to help reception issues?
Any input from those who just got one would be greatly appreciated.

I too have the epic touch, a d then the s3.
Although I cannot comment on note 2,because I don't have it yet, the s3's radio is much better than epic touch.
Instant gps lock and no LOS
I too have the E4G and have just been patiently waiting....I almost jumped on the SIII, but thought I would wait. I think GN2 is what I have been waiting for.
The missed calls (never ringing), daily lock ups and reboots are driving me crazy!
I picked mine up this morning, I'm very happy with reception so far, seeing a lot of improvement over my old epic 4g, and the download speeds seem a tad inproved in my commonly trodden areas

I cannot hold a steady 3g data connection. Network mode is set to cdma/lte/evdo and it keep bouncing on and off for 3g. just came from the Evo lte and that phone at the same spot can hold a 3g eHDRP or Evdo just fine. Going to see if sprint can reprovision this phone for me. If this is a normal thing with samsung phone then I have no choice but to return it.

Update:
Phone is now connecting better after switiching perferred roaming from automatic to sprint only. All my previous phone have no problem when set to automatic roaming. Well at least now my data is not dropping like it was. My real test by putting it on sprint only (home on samsung's phone) is to see if it will connect to LTE where's LTE is available. I will find out after work when I'm on my way home since I get no LTE connection here at work.
Anyone coming from the galaxy s3 miss the simultaneous voice and data? I can't believe this phone can't do it unless connected to lte.

Hows everyone doing, like anyone who has this phone I am also waiting on lte. Im actually in South Fl where they are working on LTE service currently some of my friends actually say that they drive around and sometimes are able to connect to 4g,all who are under sprint actually. I just wanted to know if anyone who has a flashed device via boost, metropcs, veizon, etc has any luck picking up 4g lte service on there device in the few areas that sprint has 4G,any feedback would be greatly appreciated.Hopefully I can though when its fully launched I actually saw a video that devices that has not yet been activated was able to use LTE service by qbking77.

I was wondering the same since there is a 4G hack for the ET, is there a hack for the LTE mac address, that would allow access to Sprint 4G LTE
Example: I am flashed to Boost on my Sprint ET, but using my friends Sprint ET 4G mac address for 4G access.
That is one thing keeping me from switching to the S3 cause I will lose 4G.
Yep I actually still have my s2 I'm using it as a walking hotspot
as far as I know.. there is no public info available on accomplishing this. I can't say it's not possible.. because everything is in some way or another.. but LTE is much more difficult than WiMax.
WiMax allows anyone and everyone to connect to the tower. Then, depending on your MAC address, you could browse the web... or be redirected to a sign-up portal. there are even ways to get through the portal without a valid MAC by using VPN connections etc.. the DNS port on the portal page is wide open.
This next part I'm not 100% sure on... still an LTE n00b to be honest.. with no LTE in my area to test things. But.. afaik... LTE is "similar" to GSM. It is based on SIM cards(actually a UICC card). On a Sprint LTE phone in settings you will see a ICCID number.. this is the embedded sim cards ID number. On a true lte system(ATT/VZW) the UICC is programmed OTA with all the needed credentials to connect you... for voice/text/3g/4g. On Sprint, it's more of a hybrid setup. It's still using the CDMA base... where the phone relies on the EFS/NV for calls/text/3g... then it uses the embedded sim(eUICC) to handle the 4G LTE side of things.
I have not found any good Sprint documentation on how their LTE authentication works. I'm not sure if it is OTA provisioning info onto the eUICC... which would make LTE hacking pretty impossible. Or maybe Sprint got lazy and is just using some kinda of MEID/ICCID pairing(sort of like the meid/wimax mac pairing)... which will whitelist an ICCID if its paired MEID if activated on an LTE plan. If the later is true, perhaps the ICCID could be spoofed to a valid one? But I doubt they got that lazy.
Other exploits could be possible.. something that gets around the current provisioning system.. but something like that may never reach the publics eye. Sim cloning is also possible.. but that would require hardware capable of reading a sim and rewriting... not impossible I suppose, but most likely expensive.
I wouldn't get my hopes up about this being possible. There is a very slim change anything like this could be pulled off. Those in Wimax coverage may be using the last hackable "4G" network.
*edit*
as for the qbking video.. I'm not 100% sure, but I was under the impression each of those phones had been previously activated... and that some glitch in the system allowed them to still work.. kinda like when you swap phones on Sprint and 3G still works for a day or so. It's also possible the tower was set up to allow all connections to test things(for a few days at most). Again.. I'm just guessing. Does anyone know if he can still replicate those results?

So you think Sprint recognized the problem and patched it with software updates? That's what really gave me hope to think it would all be possible

check out the lil edit i made at the end of my initial post.. regarding the qbking situation. there was not enough info there for me to know exactly what was going on in his exact situation. but its very possible, as i mentioned above, that the lte towers had some kind of "accept all" flag while they were testing it.. who knows. If it's still able to be replicated by qbking.. then I would say there might be a loophole.
i will say tho.. ive never had the chance to personally test out lte. all i have to go by are documents i've read.. and other users experience. once i get it in my hands.. maybe something will change. trust me.. i'm looking into this.. and will continue to do so :good:

check out the lil edit i made at the end of my initial post.. regarding the qbking situation. there was not enough info there for me to know exactly what was going on in his exact situation. but its very possible, as i mentioned above, that the lte towers had some kind of "accept all" flag while they were testing it.. who knows. If it's still able to be replicated by qbking.. then I would say there might be a loophole.

Toggle airplane mode on and off make sure data is not turned off because it should still show either 3g or 4G not blank like your picture.

I have done that and manually disconnected mobile data, it does that because the phone is connecting to 4g lte tower, the thing is that I don't believe the iccid number of not authenticating so that's why the 4g is not popping up

Has anyone figured out how to get LTE working on a sprint S3 flashed to boost? Boost offers LTE now so there has to be some way to get a S3 to authenticate on LTE while on a boost account. Ive looked everywhere and cant find diddly squat.
