Windows Embedded Handheld 7 - soon :)

Source : http://news.softpedia.com/news/2-Ne...ors-of-Windows-Embedded-Handheld-144898.shtml
Microsoft has announced two new Windows operating system releases planned for delivery this year and the next, both essentially flavors of the same platform. The plain vanilla version of Windows Embedded Handheld will be launched in the second half of 2010, while its successor, Windows Embedded Handheld 7, will drop one year later, in the second half of 2011. The two upcoming Windows releases have the new Windows Embedded Handheld platform at the core, announced by the Redmond company on June 17th, 2010.
its could be the rise of the dead for Winmo
Looks pretty awesome but also looks like its aimed at tablets. The videos all show a tablet style device and not a phone.
A little more info here:

...with a picture of a PHONE about half way down. Looks similar to a b.berry.
Yep, I saw that already, but it's all but clear... All the hardware they present are featuring a tiny screen and a huge keyboard, just unlike the recent touch phone PDAs.
It's unclear either if it will be a sequel from Windows CE or Windows Mobile.
BTW, the connection with Windows Phone 7, or even a possible Windows Mobile 7 pro, isn't established at all.
For now, it just looks like microsoft suddenly realized that WP 7 announcement has frightened their professional customers and try to get them back with some really unprecise project...
Wait and see, but what I'm reading across the Net shows a strong tendency of many users to run towards Android instead.

Well, that trend started way before anything was announced about WP7. And it is reinforced by the fact that all new handsets are released with Android. Also, operators like Verizon are pushing Android like crazy and there have been numerous accounts of people being advised in VZW stores that WM is worthless crap and they shouldn't buy it.

The Windows Embedded Newsroom has articles that state that the first edition will be based on WM6.5 and the 2nd Version will be based on the same core as WP7. Whether or not they stick with the 'mobile' tag for the OS is unknown.
See this link for the a page that goes into a little detail: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2010/jun10/06-17EnterpriseHandheld.mspx
It's not correct, The first edition will be a successor of WM6.5.3 (based on Windows CE 5), the second will be something we can name WM7 based on the Windows CE 7 core.
They skip WinCE 6 as base for this specific OS.
Similar choices you can see for Windows Auto or Windows NavReady.
Our actual application based on .NET CF 3.5 will probably continue to work on the new platform.
This looks hot... can't wait to try it. I wanna see more pics
To general I say!

windows rt 8.1 jailbreak update

Hi not to bug and I am very thankful for the people working on it but does anyone have any updates I am also open to any betas that you might offer. please email me back at [email protected]
*facepalm* SPAM
Come on, there's already plenty of posts already with the amount of people asking for the same thing. Just be patient.
If you really really really must have the jailbreak, find a recovery image to downgrade from RT 8.1 to RT 8.0. Of course this does not apply to owners of the Surface RT 2nd generation.
Jailbreak only in Windows 8 RT , not Windows 8.1 RT

Microsoft's new Windows 10 Universal App Platform: A 'superset of WinRT'

Windows RT is officially died.
Windows RT is officially died.
Has it really died or will Windows 10 breathed a bit of life back to it?
Considering all the announcements today ands so far regarding Win 10 and MS position on open source framework is there now some hope for the RT tablets? Might windows release information that could help to open development on the Surface RT tablets? What does the community think?

Microsoft Surface dualboot?

I have been trying to find out any definitive info on what I can and cant do with my surface. Im hoping that I can install something other than Wins 8 RT. It has not looked hopeful in the past, I was given the device as a promo training gift 3 years ago. Im tired of the neutered and damn near useless ness of this tablet. Im looking to install ubuntu or an android flavor of some sort.
As far as I know from scouring the web. Nothing as far as dual booting with an alternate OS is viable at this point. Everything has come to a halt. Surface and the RT OS is basically the Apple Powerbook of the x86 side of the world now.
In my opinion Windows RT 8.0 with the jailbreak is about as good as it's going to get (though there might finally be the possibility of an 8.1 jailbreak). I don't know if you've tried the jailbreak (not sure if you have an original Surface RT or the Surface 2) but for me it filled in most of what I was missing on RT, and has kept the device useful.
It is unfortunate that installing a non-Microsoft OS isn't possible.

Would be great to install linux in this tablet
I found a link with this method. Does anyone else know if this is actually doable or works? And could this apply to a windows RT tablet like the 2520?

There are times I would like to elements or apps from andoid on my windows tablet and am also looking for a dual boot solution.

Unfortuanately your answer is in the article you mentioned:
Although the process of installing Android on your Windows tablet – and by this I’m specifically referring to an Intel x86 device here rather than one equipped with an ARM processor (such as the Microsoft Surface RT) – will differ from device to device, the general approach is the same.

It is talking about Windows 8 tablets, i.e. x86 devices. RT devices unfortunately have a locked bootloader, and so far no one has found a way around that, nor have OEMs released anything to unlock them, so RT devices are pretty much stuck. I hate the fact that Microsoft made that a requirement for RT devices.
I wasted my money on a Surface RT. If Microsoft had updated the platform to Windows 10 with universal apps they would have restored my faith in their hardware. Never again. Now for AMD to release a proper tablet SOC that I can actually play games on.

surface RT win10x ?

Hi everyone,
since win10 arm32 is slow on surface rt from what i saw on the forums.
is there a hope for win10x to be installed in surface rt once it is released in the spring?
is this idea is already dead or there is a hope ?
Nope - never going to happen.
Microsoft stopped building ARM32 Windows a long time ago. There is no reason why they would start building for ARM32 again.
