Mods. Home button wake on/off and multiple user mod - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Here are a couple of mods that I use.
1. Home button wake off.
I use this because I keep my phone in my pocket and I'm always turning on the phone on accident. This will make the home button disabled from waking the device. (But will still work when the phone is awake)
2. Home button wake on.
Re enables the home button.
3. User management mod
This will enable your
Phone to have more than one user account kinda like windows does.
So if you let someone else use your phone you can make a guest account or whatever you need the extra accounts to be named.
Then all your stuff will not show up when they use the other account.
To access the features Open the app. Create a new user. Then to access the users hold down power button and you'll see the user accounts on the power menu.
These are confirmed working on tw roms
I believe root is needed. Just flash in cw or twrp
The user app. Only needs to be installed. Not flashed
I would give credit but I don't remember where I got the mods. I will give thanks too whoever made them if I can figure it out lol
Feel free to mirror.

home button not working anymore

When I m eg in the Market or running Internet and press the Home Button I don t return to the home screen anymore. I must have changed something but don t now what.....
no ideas anyone?
Ideas about what?! You're not describing your problem. What happens when you press Home?
I only see the screen 'flicker' 1 time
Have you tried rebooting the phone? Is your phone rooted? Is it unlocked or branded? C'mon, give some more details if you want help!
You might try installing "Home Switcher" from the Market and see if it helps.
Rebooting does not help. Original 2.1 rom, installing home switcher does not help either. Did I clean install last night, home button worked fine for some hours and after this there s again the same problem => no returning to the home screen and only a short 'screen flicker' when pressing the home button.
I would speak to HTC if that did not work. They should repair it for free because its under warranty.
It's unlikely to be a hardware issue if it sometimes works.
When using Home Switcher, what apps show up in the list? (might be a rogue app that is stealing the home button function by registering itself as a launcher application).
Do you have any apps installed? (you said you have done a clean install but it's not clear if you installed any apps after that; please note that you might have enabled backup to your sd card [Settings -> Privacy] and that even after a clean install some of your settings will he restored from that backup).

I'd suggest booting into safe mode as this will stop all 3rd party applications from running. If it works from there, it seems pretty likely that the issue is related to an application you have installed.
To get into safe mode, power off your device, and then power back up again whilst holding down the menu button, and keep it held down until the phone has completely booted. Once booted, you should find it says "safe mode" in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Note that if you do this, all your 3rd party widgets on the home screens will stop functioning - even when you have exited safe mode. You will need to delete and re-add them.

Dave

Very good idea/advise.
This worked for me
Reading through this thread made me wonder whether the fact my Home and Search buttons suddenly weren't working could have been caused by an app I installed the day before (No Lock).
Before uninstalling it I decided to give it a test. It was on "Locking Disabled". I set to "Locking Enabled" and tested the Home button - voilà, it worked. Tested the Search button, it worked too.
Set the app back to "Locking Disabled" - Home and Search buttons still working.
My buttons, home and both volume buttons are dying. I think it's just wear and tear really which is bad because I've had it less than a year.

[Q]How to modify Home Button function in Sleep mode

Is there a way to modify the function of the HOME BUTTON so it doesn't wake the phone?
My Arc S keeps on unlocking inside my pocket and takes a lot of snapshots and drains the battery.
And another thing, what variable to use to open RECENT APPS via a hardware key, for example the camera shutter key.
Thanks in advance.
To prevent screen from turning on in pocket, disable the feature, which turns on screen via home button. Will post instructions later.
Sent from LT18i with custom firmware by myself.

Would really much appreciate it, I've been tormented by this accidental unlock in pocket and drains my battery because of the camera.
Thanks in advance.
Oh, and about the other thing, is it possible? What if I substitute the RECENT APPS for the MENU BUTTON, would the 3dot option appear on some apps?

Take a file explorer, that can access root folders (ES File Explorer for example), make sure to go into settings and allow access and write to system folders.
Then go to /system/usr/keylayout, open the file pm8058_keypad.kl with ES File Explorer's default Note Editor (long press, Open As, Text), find this line
Code:
key 102 HOME WAKE_DROPPED
and change it to
Code:
key 102 HOME
So just remove the WAKE_DROPPED part.
Wrote it from my head, might have mistakes. Hopefully not.
EDIT: About the recent apps, this is coded somewhere in framework, I can't help you with that. However, the on-screen buttons do not show Menu button, it will only appear on the right side, if there is an app, which makes use of the Menu button and no other possibilities are available (depends on how the app is built).
Thanks a lot for the help sir.
It did the trick and the HOME BUTTON doesn't wake the phone from sleep.
Really much appreciated help.
Thanks again.
I have another question sir, How can I assign the WAKE function in some other button, let's say the VOLUME DOWN?
I tried replacing the WAKE with WAKE_DROPPED but it didn't work, I tried adding it without removing the WAKE and failed.
So is there a way for this?
Thanks again in advance sir.
This particular problem is the reason I use a lock pattern, not because of the security of my phone, but because of the many photos my pocket takes. However, it would be nice if we could wake the phone using the volume rockers, just not to abuse the power button. I also tried to place WAKE_DROPPED on such buttons with no success, help pretty please
Actually I was looking for a mod to use the proximity sensor to know when it is in the pocket, and not allowing the menu button to wake the handset, but this is way better, thanks pal :highfive:
-----------------------------------
Edit:
I found out that the volume rockers actually work well waking the screen, but, you have to select in security>Screen Lock>None
In such case the volume rockers will work to wake the phone (no need to add anything to the VOLUME DOWN line, as it already says WAKE)
Now the question is how to change it to do it while having slide, pattern or password as screen lock
Yeah, that's what I'm after. Using the Volume Rocker to function like the HOME Button in waking the phone.
Will someone help us out in customizing this. The POWER BUTTON is pretty far for my fingers, and the VOLUME DOWN sits just right under my thumb when holding the phone.
Would really much appreciate it if someone help us out.
Maybe they can include something like this on custom roms, giving the users the option to pick which would they prefer.

It is already on some custom ROMs.
CyanogenMod/FXP based and MIUI ROMs, if I am not mistaken.
But I'm using Zelly Cream 2.5 and it doesn't have that. Hope that it can be ported to this rom.
How do i do it if it's possible? I don't have the know how on such programming/language, will someone help me.
Hi, I have my xperia arc s also with the same problem with you... i actually downloaded root explorer and i can navigate the system data/files but i cannot modify the files mentioned the HOME WAKE_DROPPED... because my unit is not a rooted one...
Please help me to disable the home button by not rooting my phone... Can you make an APK file to disable this function? please please help

[Q] Can I disable the power button?

I currently use Sweep2Wake as my primary method of unlocking and locking my phone, and thought it would be a cool alternative to having a password (as i am on a stock rom with shortcuts on the lockscreen that i can't use with a password) if this could be the only way of unlocking the phone. Most of my friends are iphone users and the ones that do have android phones don't know of this feature.
Ideally the power button would still work when the phone was unlocked (at least for the purposes of the power menu) and turning the phone on.
As an FYI I already have the volume buttons configured to skip tracks on long press.
If anyone knows of an app or mod that i could flash to help me out i'd be grateful, and please no "get a password!" posts
I see a little problem here, if S2W fails for some reason, how you gonna turn on your phone?. neat concept, bad idea

[Q] Universal Switch enabled, screen unresponsive

So I activated Universal Switch on S6 Edge to check it out, something went wrong in the settings (long story short, got a pop up while setting it up), now screen unresponsive.
It works, I just get this blue horizontal line scanning the screen and nothing else but the power button and home button works. Tried safe mode, no bueno. How can I disable US feature without resetting to factory or at least no data wipe (if possible!)?
Android 5.0, rooted with pingpong, no custom recovery, knox 0x0.
All help is appreciated.

Fixed!
The way I had fixed this is by holding down the power button, both up and down sound buttons, and the home button until it restarted. When the device turned back on it gave the option to turn the setting off. Hope it helped!

how to turn off universal switch
hit home button 3 times
Thanks alot
It worked buddy
It doesn't give me the option to turn it off
Hi,
I have been struggling with Universal Switch on a Samsung S5 Neo. I switched it on, but was never able to switch it off again.
These are findings so far:
-> Did a factory reset using "Sound Up", "Home" and "Power" button simultaneous.
-> The device comes back and wants to configure itself again.
-> I restored my settings from Google, but this immediately brought back "Universal Switch"
-> Factory Reset again and configured the device, but told Google that I want to use it as a "New Device".
-> Now I can use my device in a proper way.
-> In Google Play Store I find all my Apps which were linked to my account and reinstalled them and I am back in business again.
-> Took me half a day to sort this out.
The programmer who designed and programmed this should be hung and shot and poisoned, because this is absolute Crapware.
Hope this helps for all the others who are suffering.
You can also push the home button three times and it should turn it off.
thank u ur the best
Ok, so i have exactly the same problem except my home button doesn't work
Anyone one know how to sort this without having to take it in to a store?
I was faced with this problem before and looked everywhere and couldnt find a fix. This was a while ago. So I dont remember what I did to clear it. I was cleaning off the screen and touched the home button as I was wiping it off and the problem began again.... I just came across your comment because all the others failed. I pressed the home button 3 times quickly and the blue lines stopped scrolling. In addition, I went over the accessibility and I turned off the "Universal Switch" option as much as the option allows. I hate this function. I do not use it or need it (for my needs). I hope I can remember what to do next time this happens. I swore to myself I would remember last time, but apparently that wasnt a guarantee. This time, I will write it down and put is somewhere I know I will find it next time I see these nefarious blue lines scrolling. Hopefully I wont see it again since I disabled it more than it was to begin with. Thank you ever so for commenting. You saved me a lot of frustration!
great fix

same issue
it works with OTG cable + mouse

Don't use interaction control before you read this.

If anyone who doesn't know what interaction control is, it is a built-in feature that can be found in settings->dexternity and interaction | on Samsung phones. It is used to prevent a part of the screen or the whole screen from touching. After you enable it touch interactions won't work on the places you choose.
The best part of this tool is it ignores all the notifications as well as calls. It doesn't let you lock or unlock the device as well as physical or on-screen buttons won't work.
Now the worst part is if you run out of battery after you enable this feature you are in trouble.
For the first time when the phone starts, it asks for the locksceen password or whatever security you put.
The problem is when interaction control is enabled you can't touch the screen nor any buttons will work except back key which doesn't do anything and the power key which basically turns off and on the screen.
You can't turn off or on the interaction control while the screen is locked, and you can't unlock your device while interaction control is enabled.
Basically, your phone is in a loop. The only way to make the phone functioning again is the factory reset.
Even Samsung Customer Representative couldn't help it.
I know it is an extreme condition that it can happen.
But still, beware before using it.
Found this topic while googling for a different issue, but I thought I could shed some light on this. Sorry for the necro
At least on my Note 10+, you can enable and disable the Interaction Control feature by doing one of the following:
A) Hold down the Home and Volume Down buttons together. (Doesn't work if the home button is virtual (on-screen) and is blocked by Interaction Control)
B) Hold down the Side Key and Volume Up buttons Together. (Always works, even when Volume buttons and Side Key button is blocked!)
Edit: Just realized this topic is for the Galaxy A50, but hopefully it will work just the same

YES! Do NOT ever activate "INTERACTION CONTROL" unless you KNOW what you are doing or know what that feature is! Unfortunately, IF you are already here, you have probably already activated that feature and don't know what to do, because that is why I'm here too! I accidentally turned this feature on after taking a screenshot! Don't ask me how or why I managed to do it, because I just don't know, I just did. I tried to power off the phone thinking that would help, But I couldn't even do THAT! I was panicking! I was completely LOCKED OUT OF MY PHONE from activating this feature! I only accidentally found how to "disable" the feature pressing and holding the side button and power up button at the same time, like the other poster commented.

The reason you could disable it, the phone was still on. If you run out of battery, it will not allow you to disable it with shortcut keys before you unlock the phone. You can't unlock the phone because the screen is disabled. One way, maybe, is to plug in an external mouse and unlock it if your phone supports it. I don't have my A50 anymore, so I can't test it anymore.

You can't do it if your battery dies. The shortcut works if your phone is still on. Once the battery dies and you turn it back on, it will ask for a password before you can disable interaction control with the shortcut, which is stupid since you cannot unlock it with interaction control enabled since the screen is locked. One option might work if your phone supports OTG; you can plug in an external mouse and unlock your phone to disable this feature. It is better to use the pin app future which gives almost the same results. It locks you to the same app even though you can use the screen.
