After checking the settings, if you log into the xda android app by default it refreshes every 30 minutes to check for any notifications you may have. In my eyes this could use up a huge chunk of your battery without you even knowing it.
Possibly the cause of my recent battery drain issues? Check it out.
You do have a settings option to change the default values under notification option you know..

Well yes because I said "After checking the settings" which kinda implies there's a setting for it. But for the people who don't know about it I thought I would share.

What do you guys set it at?
For those that are unaware you can find it here:
Settings > Developer Options > Background Process Limit
Anyways, I just want to gauge what XDA users do with this. I often set mine to "At most 3 processes" as oppose to the standard limit but I don't really see a difference. I assume the standard limit is Google's designed way to deal with apps in the background but that doesn't really tell us much.
Anyone have any observations on battery life or performance?
I guess the battery life wouldn't be much better than normal. Android deals with background processes pretty well so I've not bothered to change this option.

Is it? I can't tell. The app asked me something...I didn't get it.
Someone delete me.

I keep trying to set mine to 4 but every time I reboot the phone, it sets back to the standard limit. Is this happening to everyone?

Same here.
Like I said in the other thread about this. Don't monkey around with those settings. They're meant for developers to troubleshoot the ways that their apps handle being put into the background and how they are managed when they're killed.
Android will handle your background processes. Just let them be. You'll be better off all around by doing so.
i set mine to 3, but how many process in standard limit?

I think there is not limit, app gets killed when phone runs out off free RAM
do not change that setting unless you like having worse battery life from apps having to constantly restart and lag from apps not being in cache.
I don't see why anyone except a developer trying to troubleshoot their apps would change this setting at all

it is SUPPOSED to do this.
it isn't meant to be something any regular user sets in order to try and get better performance or anything.
in fact, just the opposite may happen
I use "standart" and its`s absolutly OK!
Go to Settings > Developer Options and scroll to "Don't keep activities" and make sure it isn't checked.
This will prevent most apps from refreshing when you return to them.
Damn mine is already set to normal...
It actually seems to be working really well now. Thanks.

Working on mine. Do you have force GPU enabled in the developers options?

I enabled GPU mode to see and I couldn't recreate your problem so I'm assuming that isn't it.
There are three different versions, the one I used was made by "Android Apps", I have no clue if this is a clone or not.
If it is someone should let us know and anyone having success should buy the PRO version as it is only $1.74.
Download Spare Parts, not Spare Parts Plus.
Also, uninstalling Spare Parts will reset it back to aggressive. You need to keep the app to have proper multi-tasking for now. It works really well though. (GSM GNex AOKP 28 Franco M2)
I wonder why the memkiller is set at "Aggressive" though?
Hm, I guess I didn't really notice lots of app reloads, but it was most annoying in the browser. When i clicked on it the first time in Spare Parts, neither of them were selected... Changed it to "Normal" and we'll see how it goes.
Not really gonna be happy with this if Spare Parts sits in the background taking up resources.
It was actually the simplest solution that I overlooked.
Go to Settings > Developer Options and scroll to "Don't keep activities" and make sure it isn't checked. That's all the the spare parts Normal/Aggressive toggle does.
I have not had this problem at all...until maybe a week or go, when it started.
I have screen flicker, sometimes quite bad. I thought I read somewhere that GPU settings may have something do do with it.
Thing is, I haven't changed any settings, or kernels. I'm no what is listed in my sig, and have been for quite a while.
Any thoughts?
You could try disabling HW overlays under developer options in the settings menu.
Disabling hw overlays won't help (much anyways). Turn off auto brightness. Just set your brightness to a usable level. I didn't notice a single flicker the day I turned off auto brightness. The only tradeoff there is you're gonna run through your battery a little more quickly in lower light levels. Wasn't worth it for me, but whatever makes you happy.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Neither is a go for me.
I never use auto brightness; I've tried both having Disable Hardware Overlays set and not set.
It's strange...I never had this problem until recently.
But, another thing that seems to be the case: I"m not sure it's happening in any app other than Samsung Email.
...
Just went and tried something: opened an email and scrolled in Samsung eMail, and it flashed. Did same in GMail, and it didn't. Maybe it's just something about a recent upgrade on that app. Maybe I'll post a topic on that app and see if anyone else is seeing it.

It's listed in my signature. Stock/Rooted.
I do have an update: I also was having pretty severe flicker/flashing when reading in Aldiko.
Last night I did a TWRP backup; factory reset; restore Data partition. Flashing is improved quite a bit, but still there.
So again, it seems it is happening, for the most part, in just a couple apps: Samsung Email, and Aldiko.

For one, I am trying to help you. For two, signatures don't show up when viewing in mobile app. Three... did you try a different kernel?
Same happens wid me.... still am on search for a solution.... at first I thought. May be a ROM has to do wid this... but am not sure...

Sorry. Didn't mean to offend. I didn't know sigs don't show up when viewing in mobile. I put the info in the sig in order to prevent people from having to ask, and to prevent from having to type it with every post. I appreciate your telling me it doesn't show up in mobile apps. I never use mobile for forums...typing is to laborious.
IN answer to three, yes, have tried different kernel, although it's been quite a while.
It's ok.
I've had this issue on AOSP ROMs. Only way out was to change ROM.

Hi Guys,
I use this function to prevent being disturbed at night.
However I hate the Icon associated with this feature. Is there a way to hide this (phone is rooted) without using Exposed framework etc?
Thanks,
I assume that you are talking about the notification icon. The notification icon is a feature implemented to let the user know that the phone is in Blocking mode, which is pretty important considering that one might miss phone calls and alarms if using the phone in this mod without knowing. So the icon is a pretty important indicator that cannot be removed only by messing with the framework. I am sorry to be disappointing you, but there's no other way.

I'm not sure I agree. The blocking is only setup for early hours of the morning. Why do I need to know Blocking is enabled for the rest of the time. Also it is set to allow those I consider important to call. As such I don't need or want it.
I also think your wrong that this can't be done as a Google search shows a mod to do just this is available for the s3 however I'm not going to flash that.
I could just install exposed but I find it has negative effects with my rom.

Edit. Balls to it I'll reinstall exposed.

It is possible by editing the framework, for sure. Go ahead and try the app. You can also edit the framework manually in order block any icon in the notification bar. That would clear any other secondary effects of that app, but also would involve messing with the rom files

Hi. Please see the video.
How can I fix this? Do you have same problem?
I have done like 20 hard resets but no luck. The photos are copied to phone memory.. Still the same.

Also see below for worst message app performance

Are those picts on an SD card? Either way, I don't see any problem. Were you expecting everything to be instantaneous?

Yes. But tried copying to phone and removing sd card. Still same experience.

If you're using a 3rd party gallery app then that could be your problem cause mine doesn't do that

If its 3rd party gallery.. I dont even bother a thing. It is the default gallery app that came with phone. And even default message app has issues on mine.
Do you think any of this is related to the battery problem?

You might want to try this:
Go to settings --> about device --> software info
Tap on build info loads of times till it says developer menu activated.
Go to settings --> developer options --> scroll down and set the following to off.
Window animation scale = set to off
Transition animation scale = set to off
Animator duration scale = set to off
See if this improves the speed of things for you. (It turns all system animations off)
Wether or not this helps get your device replaced as my note7 has none of these issues...

I have done that too.. But it did not help. The problem is everything else works fine.. I mean other system apps are super fast. Its just weird.
I don't have any issues with messages or picture gallery. I shut off all animations in developer options (I always do as I don't like the animations and they just waste time and resources IMO). I disabled Messaging and Messages + and only use Handcent/Next messaging app. I also use Quickpic for my gallery app, although I did not disable the stock gallery app as it seems to be used by default for several other apps (camera being one). I do think any messages app will start to bog once the amount of texts builds up, and I text a lot - about 3000 texts a month, so in almost 3 weeks I have quite a few texts already. No bogging yet however.
I have same issue. Actually I had the same thing on Note 5 too. It happens sometimes and goes away when the phone is restarted. No 3rd part gallery app or anything else. It even happens on a fresh system. An update might fix this in the future hopefully

have the same problem in my galaxy s7 edge.. the gallery problem works better when you pinch the photo to dismiss, only when I use the back button (on screen or the capacitive button) it stutters. Also in the messaging app I am experiencing your same issue. Hope Samsung fix this on next update...
