Whenever I move, rename or edit id3 tags, the music player keeps that old list and add all songs to that list, now it shows that I have over 900 songs, but only about 200 - 300 are playable and really exists in my sdcard. How can I make it update the list removing all non-existing songs?
[Edit] solved, as I think so. Cleared chache in recovery, and in sdcard. The list is clearing up.

See picture attached, I keep removing them from playlist, but whenever media scanner runs, it readds them.

Like what? The only change was I restored from an old rom AFTER adding .nomedia files to most of my external sd card folders. Everytime I delete them (hence the picture), they reappear and its annoying listening to them whenever I use my mp3 player.

I have to ask a potentially stupid question but what is the albumthumbs folder for in my android/data folder. It is huge in size and if I don't need it id rather get rid of it. Next to the folder that had my mp3s in it and my domain backup it is the largest file on my sdcard at over 600mb!

May be a setting in music player to choose whether to cache and/or collect album art thumbnails. Same story on Pandora or other similar streaming player.

I've tried nearly all top music apps and they all do the same and none of them have options for a disable toggle. I'm curious to figure this out too. my only alternative is to permanently disable media scanner but the downside is to reenable it if you've added new photos, audio or video
idk, short of changing the permissions for the folder so nothing can write to it, after deleting the existing, and that's a guess, may not work.

no go cause sd card doesn't allow permission changes
Stumped here...

it's clearly a missing or dysfunctional option since I noticed poweramp, tunewiki and winamp all do it.tried getting responses from the devs on those apps but no response as well as no info on the web
Are the files in the album art folder hidden? I only have Astro at my disposal right now as I'm at work, but I show nothing in there. One thing to note, ALL my MP3s have their album art embedded in the ID3 tag, so it has no need to cache anything.. maybe that's key?

they aren't hidden since I have astro to show everything.most files in here are 3.97mb each and when you got 10GB of music.that's a lot of cache that's wasting space and embedding over 1700 songs would take to long

I see. Something you might look into if you have a Windows machine available is the free program MediaMonkey, which will automatically tag entire directories of files with album art (among other tags, if you wish) from the internet. It's not perfect, but it beats the hell out of doing it manually.
Please note this is operating on the assumption that I'm right about why my folder is empty. One could prove that one way or the other by clearing that cache directory and moving all music off the SD card and then put a couple of ID3 tagged files on and see if their cache remained empty. I would think the time invested in such an endeavor would be minimal compared to the gain in disk space if my theory is correct.
maybe I'll experiment with a few songs once I transfer songs where they can't be detected and go from there
I just had a thought that using a ".nomedia" file might be constructive in this case so you don't actually need to remove your current library.
what should I try doing with it? adding it to where the cache is stored?
A .nomdedia file tells the Android Media Service to disregard the directory it resides in when scanning for media, so I was thinking you could drop it into your music folder and then make a new music folder ("Temp" or "Music2" or whatever) and put the tagged songs in there.

The problem is not the folder itself, album art should be tiny pictures, so on a 10G card, max 4k songs, it should be less than 20Mb. I'm having the same problem, my sd card is getting filled with a single mp3 file being repeatedly copied to the albumthumbs folder. That's a bug, and a pretty serious one. Has anyone else experienced the same issue?
I switched to playerpro which doesn't do it
having trouble with adding songs from my library to offline , i click on some songs and it doesnt have a option to add to offline library.
Also where are all the offline songs stored, what if I want to delete my stored songs , how do i do that?
Through the google music app. Select the song or album you want, long press-add instant mix. Then go to the instant mix-menu-make available offline.

Is anyone else having problems sharing a song public on Google+ from the Google Music App?

where are the offline songs stored? interesting question??
Music files are stored here:
Sdcard/Android/data/com.google.Android.music/cache/music
I have been trying to figure a way to make use of this because it would be nice if there were other music apps that could take advantage of these songs but have had no luck.

PowerAmp lets you select which folders to scan for music, so selecting the cache folder for Google Music makes those songs available to PowerAmp. And PowerAmp really is one of the best music apps available. I wish Google would release APIs making our cloud-stored music available to any app that uses them.

I am using stock ICS 4.0.4 (updated to latest), and i am facing problem with album art. I have added to half of my songs on phone album art today (which didn't have any album art), and phone still doesn't recognize them. I tried clearing cache and app data, and deleting and re-copying music and still nothing. Has anyone had simmilar problem?
Thanx in advance!
WARNING: Backup all things that you want: contacts, apps etc.
If you have a root + CWM you can do this:
1. Wipe data/factory reset (which clears all data and resets your phone back to default, this option can be found in the phone without root or CWM)
2. Wipe cache partition (formats the cache, which is like a folder that stores information & data of apps etc.)
(OPTIONAL) Wipe dalvik cache
if you're using iTunes and adding album art from that/or from a folder and adding album art to the music via properties then you should have no problem moving the music into your SD card > music.
Actually i lost root when i updated to 587, but after that i had some problems cause i have removed a lot of stock apps, and it wasn't working properly so i did factory reset. Yesterday i used nice program mp3tag (freeware), and added album art on pretty much every song. I cleared app data in settings>apps and it did manage to read some of the tags, but much of them are just same tag that doesn't fit. (and it is even more anoying than no album art)
It wasnt helpful but thanx anyway, maybe someone else will know whats going on...
Same problem here. Artworks disappear. You should reboot your phone or remove ur music folder, reboot then copy it again by PC. I tried and it worked sometimes.

I have always had problems with album art with the android music player even on my previous phone (htc wildfire). I purchased the app mixzing from the playstore and this works brilliantly. I also tried tagging all the individual tracks using mp3tag but this only worked sometimes. I am currently using a modified stock Rom which uses the walkman player from the Xperia s. This seems to work much better with the individually tagged tracks but still has problems with albumart inside folders.
Hope this is of some help.

Actually that with deleting and re-copying solution is the best for me, cause after that it managed to read some more album arts, but still many are left bad. I did found that many people are having same problem and that there is no good solution to this, its just the shi**y player...
All of a sudden I am getting a lot of trouble with the music on my phone. My iTunes library is very organized with all the artist info, album, album art, etc. I tried to use the Kies app to sync my music on my phone, but for some reason some tracks are moved on the my phone with the title being something among the lines of "01 Song One" and all the other song information is unknown. This is the case with maybe about 30 or 40 songs while the rest of my 2000+ song library are fine. I tried syncing with doubleTwist and got the same result. I even tried just moving the songs directly onto my SD Card and I STILL got the same result. Anyone know anything I can do so all my music are transferred to my phone properly? Thanks in advance.
Have you tried editing the properties of the music? To the proper album name and song name you want?
I do this on my computer when my music library gets messed up

Edit it where? When the songs are in my iTunes library it has all the information correct.
You could use mp3tag on your PC to edit the files directly. In my experience, iTunes doesn't always make the changes to metadata to the actual file and when you try to transfer it elsewhere the data is gone. That's actually why I quit using iTunes. But mp3tag should fix those few files no problem.
