What country is my Note II? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but I am in the USA, I ordered a Note 2, N7100 off ebay. The seller was also in the US. How do I find out what country's firmwire I have? And if I want to flash the stock ROM of another country via kies, is that possible?

Dial *#1234# and come back with what you get.

If you follow this guide, you can download the right rom for your device

Your rom is one of from Argentina /Chile /Panama /Uruguay or Trinidad
But not necessary you have to flash from same
Look first line on my signature and flash any of it from country you like

The reason this question came up is because I have 4.1.1
And the emmc checker says that I have the chip that's vulnerable.
I didn't want to update to 4.1.2 initially because of people's reports of bad battery life. That's the primary reason I got this phone, for it's battery life.
But now reading about SDS, is making me think I shouldn't take the risk. So I was asking so I know how to update it (as I ignored the update notification on the phone, and now it's saying I'm up to date, which I'm not obviously).

Dont take the risk just find the latest dma6 rom and flash it as I was on the same bOat and I just flashed it. Evantually they will sort the battery life issues as I think its a small price to pay against to having a bricked phone if you dont have a valid local warranty as most international phones dont come with one .

It is the latest official 4.1.2 for note 2 I used the one for Turkey . You ll find Dr. Ketans thread with all the firmwares or get it from sammobile. Dma6 is not that bad. I had an amazing battery life with my pre ll7 4.1.1 rom but since started with dma6 it is still good. I rather safe to be than sorry and yes if you were to ask me it is shambells FOR samsung to release an ill hardware on such expensive piece. Considering you can get a very decent laptop for the same if not less money anyhow thats my two pence.

[Q] Note GT-7100T root access?

Hi guys
Ive had me Note 2 for over a week and have being trying to resist rooting it, but am slowly giving in to my urges:fingers-crossed:
My model is the 7100T and theres not much info out there about this model. The only difference is the frequency i think for telecom New Zealand.
Do you think i would be safe to root with a 7100 method?
Any help appreciated
thanks
Pretty sure, but not certain, you'll be ok with Chainfire's Exynos abuse method. Definitely no guarantees so good if you can find others who've used it first.

I also have the 7100t. I rooted with Exynos Method and it worked fine. Even did the multi window and that worked too. Hope this helps :silly:
Well i dont see a problem doing this. tho i would be carefull about what firmware i trow on. but you can always flash it back. if you took a Nandroid backup...
About the radio. you can flash what ever radio you want. they shuld all work just that some works better in your aera then others you kinda have to test them one by one for your self.
I say with note 2 all you need is rooted stock.

Is rooting bad? I am scared I will root my new GN2

Can someone help me with this topic:
I rooted my galaxy tab2 GT-P3100 n flashed few roms like CM10,AOSP but then I had to flash the stock romantic back because most of the apps started crashing(message: sorry the__app___ is closed unfortunately) but after flashing stock1 things were same, nowhere to go unfortunately I had to sell that1....... Now i purchased GN2 I can't stay unrooted but I am worrying if same happens this time too..... Can someone answer me why this thing happens(unfortunate app crashes) ?

Most of the time it is because the os is not supported on that app ... Like when ICS first came out you have some apps that won't work on it .... There is usually nothing that can't be fixed you didn't have to sell it just find out what wasnt right and fix it ..

I haven't experienced a single unwarranted app crash. The few times I did have a crash it was do to user error or restoring app data. Did you make sure that you wiped everything between roms? Any left over data can cause all sorts of issues down the line.

Rooting the Note 2 doesn't take away any functionality, if anything it adds extra functionality that wasn't there by default.
For example: Do you happen to use the multi-window capability that the device has? If you do, wouldn't it be even better if you could use any app you wanted and not just the predetermined choices? Most custom roms offer that to root users.
What apps are useless with root? How is the Spen useless?
The only time that my Spen has ever been useless is when I'm not using it. Even aosp roms that don't natively support it have apps that will bring most of, if not all of, it's practical applications back. And aosp is only an option and not a requirement to being rooted.
I apologize if this seems overly harsh or blunt but for someone who blatantly states "I have never rooted any of my device [e]ven my gn 2" I would refrain from giving out false information, and if you truly wish to help out someone with a question pertaining to things that you don't understand (as of yet) that you would research it to give your response a more meaningful bit of advice. They run on different network types, they have different software and some different hardware and entirely different model numbers. You want the gt-n7100/n7105 forums this is the sph-l900. If you use anything from this forum you run a real good risk of bricking your phone. Your total lack of knowledge between the device differences is one reason you definitely shouldn't be rooting your phone and most likely the reason you broke the last device you tried to root.

I never root by reading on xda I just Google for the roms or pda files for my model........ By the way what different hardware u got in ur model. My GN2 costed me rs. 40000=approx 930 USD(after conversion)..........Plz mention the hardware difference.... We have CDMA radios, LTE radios, no wireless charging, partitions are formatted differently for the different partitions required by the network differences and other country specific differences. The differences aren't huge but their enough to make them 2 entirely different devices that can't share software/firmware without modification if it can share them at all, some things arent interchangeable no matter how much you modify them, like modems.

You could unlock your device if its not already (not sure if international devices are tied to a specific carrier) and use any of our GSM networks like at&t or t-mobile or the numerous prepaid variants of the 2. That's the one nice thing about unlocked GSM devices all you have to do to change networks is switch out the SIM card.
I like to break stuff!
We have lotzzz of carriers here and I have 5 sim cards. Sometimes, I use 2 cards simultaneously with a dual slot chip set does this means my model is unlocked?

Most likely, im not even sure foreign carriers lock their devices like they do here in the US. If you bought your phone full price then its more than likely unlocked, the more I think about it I'm almost positive most foreign carriers don't provide locked phones outside of a few UK and French carriers that sell carrier branded hardware.
I like to break stuff!
I suggest you unroot your device. You seem you didnt get any advantage from rooting other than wasting your own time.
OP,
You have an international version so you're already unlocked. Is there any app that you need super user access for? Do you care to modify your phone, or are you happy with it the way it is? If you like the phone the way it is, leave it unrooted. You'll get software updates faster, won't void your warranty, and won't mess with something you may have no need for.

[Q] Note II GT-N7100 International won't boot even to Logo screen

Hello everyone.
I've had my Note II since October when it was released and sold on Amazon.com. I got a French phone
Anyways, I've rooted it and installed custom ROM on it (HD Rom).
After a phone call yesterday, we put the phone on the table and it just won't boot at all. I can't even get it to boot to the logo screen. I've called Samsung US and they won't honor this "French" phone since the IMEI is not in their system, so be careful next time you buy an unlocked phone that's not sold primarily for US customers.
The issue I am having now is that I don't know what to do. I've read and research the forums but I am really lost. Any help would be appreciated.
Here is the good news: I buy everything from Amazon and they're going to refund me but maybe a partial refund but the phone is full of personal stuff. I want to at least get it back to work so I don't have to return it to them. My privacy is more important than the refund.
Please help!
Thank you

Yes. I won't boot at all even to the N7100 screen.
Try joining the n7100 sds repair group. Maybe it's just a emmc corrupt which should be repairable with jtag as well.
Other than that if it can't boot even to n7100 screen then I could hardly think I of any way to extract the data.

[Q] Repairing Note 2 without voiding warranty

Hi all,
Sorry if the following is a really dumb question - I am new to the forum and new to tinkering with android phones. I find it really hard to understand the jargon being used on here so there is a good chance my question has been answered and I don't know it. Also a lot of the discussion seems to be about rooted phones and mine is not rooted so I don't know where to start.
Yesterday my unrooted Note 2 froze on the start up screen and will only switch off when the battery is removed. I tried recovery mode for clearing the cache and then wiping user data and niether have made any difference. I just get a cascade of red "E: failed to mount" messages.
I guess this is either a bug in the firmware or the internal storage is fried. I can send it off for repair and be without my phone for 3 weeks but I though I should try to reinstall the firmware.
My question is "will trying this invalidate my warranty?". Specifically should I try the following webpage
theunlockr.com/2013/04/06/how-to-unroot-the-samsung-galaxy-note-2-gt-n7100/
Obviously the last thing I want to do is invalidate my warranty when I am about to need it the most.
I am on Orange in the UK if that helps.
Using odin to install a official Samsung firmware (you'll probably need the Orange one), should not invalidate you're warranty.
Probably the best place for you to head is the firmware section of sammobile, type in your model and find the firmware for your country and carrier.

Thanks for the help and again sorry for the dumb question. I just don't want to take any risks at this point because whatever I do I may not get the chance to undo.
I can't find anything specific to my carrier (UK Orange) is it enough to use another one from the same country. Perhaps this is what the unspecified one is (BTU). Does it matter?
BTU is the generic uk unbranded firmware...did you're phone have specific Orange branded firmware before it crashed?

Sent my phone off last week but saw something a bit worrying about my attempt at repair. There is a custom ROM counter right? That counts the attempts at flashing the ROM. Will what I did change the counter? I didn't reset it before sending off so am I going to have a problem?

I got the phone from phones 4U so I just handed it to them to send off. If I had dealt with it with Samsung directly they would have either sent over a courier or they would have send me an envelope to send it it. If O2 gave you the phone you can call them or perhaps walk into one of their shops to get it repaired under warranty ... or you can call the Samsung service center. I think either will do.
