Guys can you tell me the best settings for a faster and lag free device? (battery is an issue too)
Min. freq? max freq? Governor? I/O scheduler?
MAX: 883mhz
MIN: 245mhz
GOV: SmartAssv2
I/O: Deadline
This is the best frequency for me in overall batterylife and performance

thanks will try that:laugh:

What is the max overclock in this phone?? tnx!
Differs on every phone, most go to 940 or 902 stable, if you go higher you will get crash and reboots, but it is possible your gio is not stable above 883 , just try it out, it wont get it bricked

844
844 is the highest stable you can get, but you can go up to 921 mhz but you can get screen freeze and you will have to remove your battery and restart.
I've had problems with over 806, but recently I put it up to 825 and it's stable so far. I really don't understand how some can go over 900, the phone will become unusable. It also seems to be more stable with minimum freq being set to 122 not 245. Currently I have 122-825 with smartassv2 scaling and it's working fine.
One more thing. I have more luck oc'ing with cyanogenmod built-in CPU governor, setCPU with different profiles seemed to crash my call answering dialog too easily. So if you use smartassv2, there isn't much point to use setcpu for screen-off profile.
overclock
in my opinion best clock for daily usage is 806MHz

This.
Others are just stating their own experience.
True, everyone has other mhz that is stable, you just need a bit luck

Just a quick question:
I know how to adjust my Min and Max frequency, but which governor should I use?
My ROM is GalaxyICS-KANG-beta3, and the default governor is ONDEMAND. Max CPU frequency is set to 902 MHz and Min is 122 MHz, the default.
Which of these settings, if any, would you recommend I change? I'm a little intimidated by the sheer amount of governors available to me...

I'm not entirely sure how all of them work, but ondemand is the most neutral choice, that's why it is the default governor on most roms.. it chooses CPU workload according to need (on demand).
Smartass is similar, except it keeps CPU usage to minimum when screen is off (it has a built in screen-off profile). SmartassV2 is an upgraded version of smartass. It's based on Interactive governor, but there are differences on how cpu usage scales up and down.
Minmax uses only minimum and maximum values. When your phone is idle, it uses minimum.. when it's not idle, it's always at max value.
Performance keeps CPU at max all the time. Powersave does the opposite - keeps at minimum. Conservative avoids using high values when possible.
So if you don't need anything special, then ondemand or smartassv2 are the best choices with compromise between performance and battery life imo.
my gio is 940MHz
失败的中国人正在尝试提高!
it seems that my gio is stable at 940Mhz, it got one day 1Ghz but over a day he crashd and i could not set it back to ghz... xD
Hi
Benchmarks apps like AnTuTu are Quadrant are very polular.
This thread should give you some insights why the results
of such benchmarks should not be taken too seriously
"Real world" example:
KISS kernel with max 1.5GHz OC
Using scheduler "odemand" -> AnTuTu will score at about 4000
Using scheduler "smartassV2" -> AnTuTu will score at about 2800
(Quadrant results are similiar in ratio)
So how to "read" this:
The ondemand scheduler scales very fast to highest frequencies.
This means you will get higher numbers at the "cost"
of beeing not so good on battery life.
smartassV2 is "smarter" by doing this frequency upscale differently which leads
to lower numbers since a benchmark can not take that into account.
BUT actually you will not notice a difference in speed in "daily" usage of your device
whereass you will notice a difference in battery usage especially if you tune
the govener to a battery "friendly" profile
regards
max
Thanks for the explanation... I guess the real feel of the ROM is more important that the benchmark score.
Anyway, here is my benchmark score running your kernel at 1.5 smartassV2. single run.
Database IO is :good:

For smartassV2 it also dependend on the "tweaks" you apply
So if you "force" values to be more performant "friendly". The values
are of course higher (CPU clock switching is faster then)
Have you changed any smartssV2 tweaks on your device for this
benchmark runs? The defaults are more performant friendly IIRC
BTW: you can run "my" getcpuinfo.sh script which will print out
all the govener settings

max

No change to smartassV2 tweaks, use it as it is.

Hi everyone,
I was wondering what is the best governor and frequency for our WFS, I'm currently running on CM9 Alpha5 and i don't know what is the best combo.
Thanks you
Smartass2 and 320-806

i use smartass2 and 200-600 .. there is no differrence between 600 and 806 for me..
i use interactive 200-806 and noop i/o scheduler. seems to give (imho) better battery life and still give performance when needed over smartassv2
Smartassv2, 245-600, noop i/o scheduler. That's the best setting for my wfs CM9 daily use.

Smartass v2 or InteractiveX have the best battery life and smoothness at the same time.
I think the max frequency is perfect on 600 MHz, but if it's slow then you can set it on 806.
Halo!
I am using the rom M'rage V2.1 and I have a really big battery drain
When the phone goes to high CPU frequency.
My setting in no frills CPU control:
MAX: 800 Mhz
MIN: 122 Mhz
Governor:smartassV2
I\O scheduler: noop
One week ago I bought A new original samsung battery so I don't think
This is a problem of the battery itself.
please help
Hi,
I'm using the same ROM an my settings are:
MAX: 672 Mhz
MIN: 122 Mhz
Governor:smartassV2
I\O scheduler: noop
I'm using it the whole day for browsing and videos on YT and my battery lasts for the whole day.
Maybe the downclocking helps you.
Do you have a lot of apps running?

Yes I think so..
I tried to change the rom to GIOPRO
I hope its will help but I will try your suggestion
Do you have "lags" with this OC?
Hi,
I don't have more "Lags" than before
In my opinion the small ram is the problem for those "Lags".
Maybe you could also try this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654317
It's often recommended and you can install it with the Adrenaline Engine.
What governor(excepting "performance")do you think it's the best for performance(smooth UI,scroll, fast app launching etc.) for galaxy gio?I don't really care about the battery

My config.:
Min. CPU: 245 MHz
Max. CPU: 825 MHz
Governor: SmartAssV2 (or SmartAssH3 if available)
I/O Scheduler: SIO (or ZEN if using SmartAssH3 as governor) :highfive: :fingers-crossed:
