Tasker is a fantastic app that lets you automate just about anything. It costs a small amount but is well worth it.

AFAIK, no, there isn't. I remember a thread much like this one where the decision was reached that battery life would suffer severely. If battery life isn't a concern for you, then you might consider using a screen/button lock program instead of putting the phone into standby.
Sorry to give you a workaround instead of solution.
there is an option in PocketToolman 2 under OS tweaks that you can check to keep WiFi active in sleep. I haven't tried it, but the program is great for everything else i've tried.

I was looking for this for a while!!It works on my MDA Vario G4!!
I stumbled across this program and it seems like every time I look at what it can do, it amazes me! I'm surprised I hadn't found it earlier.
Definately a must have for me.... Plus it hardly uses any resources and does so much....not to mention it's free!

Is there an app that automatically disables and re-enables wifi on a set scheudle?

I use "Wifi Auto Toggle" now to turn wifi on/off when I forget about it, but I have a problem where my wireless will randomly get stuck "authenticating" with my school's WPA network so it will appear to be connected without any problems, but you won't be able to access the internet with it. This means that Wifi Auto Toggle won't think to disconnect it, so it will sit there until I pick up my phone and realize that I need to reconnect. Any suggestions are welcome!
You can use tasker to turn the wifi on and off depending on time, location, whether the phone is plugged in, etc. It's confusing at first but it works wonders!!

I'd prefer an app that isn't $6... Also, it just needs to toggle the wifi on a set schedule (say, every 15 minutes). That way I could easily turn it on or off depending on where I am.
Saw an app call Modus Operandi in the main app forum that might do what you want (kind of a free Tasker alternative). I use Tasker though so I don't know how well this app works...

Or you can use Llama : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888181
I user Timeriffic. It's free and works great.

It's easy to use too.

[Q] Need App that can turn GPS ON remotely. ?

As most, I also keep my GPS off to conserve battery life.
I am looking for an app that can turn on my GPS remotely, in the event that I ever lose my phone.
So far a quick search found two:
mobile defense (which I cannot find in the market)
and Tasker
Are there any more out there? Anyone else have something else to recommend?

I posted my question in the Evo 4G Thems and Apps section. Of course I have an Android! lmfao
I already have Lookout. How is Lookout going to determine my GPS location if I have the GPS radio turned OFF all the time?
The question was, how can you turn ON the GPS feature remotely???
Here's an idea -- use an app that can schedule your GPS to be on at a certain time every day. Or is that your idea with Tasker?
Tasker and mobile defense (i believe) have the capability of you sending a text to your phone and activating features. Which is exactly what I need.
I am looking to see what else is there available and obviously, reports from EVO users themselves...
I believe wavesecure can turn on gps for rooted phones. I leave my gps on all the time and doesn't eat up much battery with how well kernels run now. Is there still a big difference in battery life with it on than off? If you're rooted and don't mind paying $20/yr for subscription, then wavesecure is an option. Don't know many other apps that can remotely turn on gps itself. Most apps can be remotely activated with sms for tracking, but don't think they can turn on the gps module. Hopefully, someone could be more helpful.
Lookout will turn on your GPS if off. Have used it a few times to find my wife's EVO. Works well.

Leaving gps "on" does not use battery. The gps is only on when a program that uses it is running. Leave it on...

While that is true, consider this scenario:
Your phone isn't lost, but stolen. If the thief is smart but not too smart, he'll turn off GPS with a widget. Having the ability to turn it on remotely would be a valuable feature in this case.

Thanx for the advice. I will definitely look into this as I already have Lookout.
And yes, leaving GPS on all the time is definitely not an option as I need to cover all bases - I always prepare for worst case scenarios.
Which leads me to the following:
If Lookout does indeed work in this manner, it will be a "good" fix but not an "excellent" fix. Remember worst case scenarios?
That's right - The first thing any educated thief would do is reset the phone, which would remove Lookout!
I read somewhere that Mobile Defense will not be affected by a phone reset.
I have to research this on Tasker though.
BTW - yes my Evo is also rooted and overclocked with custom kernel. So you can suggest pretty much any app to me...

Lookout can also find your phone using the mobile network. It will give you an approximated location, but it is very handy when your phone is out of GPS signal reach. I can confirm this as I have tried it myself.

Sprint SGS3 Wifi Tether closes itself...help!

Hey guys,
I am enjoying my Sprint variant Galaxy S3 a lot, but after rooting and installing the wifi tether/hotspot app, it works great, but I am having some issues and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue or if someone knew how to resolve this issue.
The issue:
While everything works just fine for a while (I am posting this thread using wifi tether) often times I see the wifi connection has dropped on my laptop and when I check my phone the wifi tether app is no longer running. I have to restart the app and everything is fine. This is getting pretty annoying as it happens very randomly! I haven't had this issue on my Epic 4g Touch at all and was just curious if maybe there was something I was missing or if perhaps others were experiencing this as well. I drop time varies a lot...sometimes I can use the connection undisturbed for 1+ hours, but other times the app closes after 10 minutes and requires a restart...its just more of an annoyance than anything as the program does work every time its restarted, but It would be nice if I could get a solid/stable connection going despite the lackluster 3g speeds.
If anyone knows a fix or could help me out, this would be much appreciated! I did a search and couldn't find any open posts about this :[
Thanks!

Edit:
Hmm... Ok It disconnects about every 15 minutes or so... I tried changing the profiles to multiple different ones (Nexus CDMA, Galaxy S2, Generic ICS) All with the same result...it disconnects and I have to click the white wifi button to restart the tethering. :/ Happened on stock rooted and I just did a full wipe and installed the Blazer ROM and seems to be the same. Thanks again if anyone has any kind of input.

Hey man...it seems like it holds on to the signal longer and when I uncheck it, it dims the screen but it doesn't fully shut off...it seems to like that and keep the connection. When I manually turn the screen off it will disconnect me again. I hope its not my phone! Its definitely better than before!
Well unfortunately, I always have my phone plugged in when running the app so the screen being on isn't a problem for me.. there are some apps out there ( i can't seem to remember the names right now ) that will try to prevent the app from being killed by android's task manager, i'd look into them... good luck

G4 spying on me?

Well kind of. Not a paranoid thing. But I got my G4 yesterday and it updated to MM. So I'll start by saying I'm not sure if this is a MM only problem. Anyway, Today I went to walmart did some grocery shopping. I get back out to the truck and look at my phone. (I should have screenshot it but didn't think to) I pull down the notification area and it says Walmart save money etc. So I click on it and it shows reviews with a split view map. I've never had a phone do this before. I'm using the same apps on this phone that I did on my S5. So I figure it's built into the phone. And my guess is it has something to do with google now cards. Even though I never set cards up. I do use google voice however. It's a little annoying seeing as it's using data without my express permission to gather information to show me. Much like how it also uses google now cards to show me ETA to get home even though once again I never set that up either. It assumes some place is where I work as well even though I don't have a set job site since I do odd jobs. Any ideas on this stuff guys? Being on prepaid I'm on a very limited data plan of 1GB per month.
I know somewhat of that feature. It goes by gps to where you been looks like mm has that option enabled cause on my lollipop (not upgrading to mm) i dont have it set up. I have somewhat of the things set up as for home and work. When gps is on it will tell me when i be at work if i left. The weather and when i get home. However you can turn the things off so it wont use your data. Turn off location when you are not useing it. I think you can turn off the things in google settings and you can turn them off in cards

Found the culprit. After digging around a little I remembered the accuweather thing that comes with the phone. Click the little drop down arrow and this is what I see. Telling me it will provide suggestion based on time of day and phone location.. So I deleted the widget but can't figure out how to disable it in the application manager. Can't find it. Can only find weather in there.
Ah i see i had that before thats the mart notice. I dont use it but i use this widget on my phone

So since you've removed the widget I had you don't get them notices? I'm hoping since I removed the widget that it won't show up anymore. I notice your temperature is about the same as mine. New castle Indiana by chance? But for my weather needs I'll be installing TWC. It has been my favorite for a while now. Just haven't gotten back around to installing it yet.
Turn off WiFi scanning and location. Both use data.

I have wifi scanning off. But You're right I have my GPS on I used to have an app that absolutely required it being on to be able to use. I still do have an app that requires it but I don't need to use it often. (instant radar). Best weather radar in my opinion. But yeah after I do my battery test today I'll be sure to turn off GPS as well. I'm comparing the battery time to my S5 with this MM update from yesterday since I heard a lot of people weren't happy with the battery. So the only real world test I could do for my self was to leave GPS on since I always had it on with my S5.

Yep just checked through my widgets. I've got that one that you have as well as the smart notices. Hopefully deleting it worked. I'm very greedy when it comes to my data. I usually have 800mb left over each month. Too bad it doesn't roll over.

You can try this the app may not use data unless you are useing it i tried to restrict my chrome but i can still use it.
