I've been on CM9 RC1 forever, but it has been really acting up lately. So, what is the most stable ROM that you have used that has good battery life ?

Make a backup and start flashing and testing to find the one that works best for you. Personally, HO!NO! Full Throttle gives by far the best battery life for me albeit being a ICS CM9 based.
Best bettery life on MIUI from LU6200.
Stock Gingerbread with all the bloat (LG's and the carrier's) removed. After playing around with ICS and CM9/10 for months, I went back to Gingerbread and was amazed at the battery life once I deleted the bloat - and with no reboots or BSOD (so far .

probably the bell version, since he is from Ottawa. V11a.
Try LIQUID NITRO. Wipe battery stats, do a full wipe, install Rom, install your apps from play store instead of restoring back ups then run the rom for about three days to get the battery calibrated. Smooth sailing decent battery life and a near perfect Rom. Viola!

Yup, Bell's v11a. There's a lot of Bell bloatware, but HO!NO! did a custom ROM based on the v11a. (Bell Optimus LTE V1c http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23630260&postcount=1 )
I tried his ROM but I couldn't get it to be as stable as stock. However, it was easy to use Titanium Backup to delete the bloat based on what he deleted, although I kept the stock Launcher and widget picker instead of switching to Go Launcher like he did. (I've never had much luck with Go Launcher.)
It seems that my particular phone just won't handle anything other than stock LG Gingerbread.
ETA: I flashed the img files from https://www.dropbox.com/sh/932i1aer27we456/2ES-nJnzz9 via ADB (because I unbricked to get rid of the locked bootloader).

No. Different companies, different countries, different basebands, same frequencies .
You do have to remove the bloatware apps with either firmware (and not add your own)!

thanks. actually I think I will stick with full throttle or cm10 because I like the built in wifi sharing.
Coming from PA
I just dropped PA - loved the looks, can't handle the battery life.. I was getting 2-3 hours of active use time... and now that im in Ingress that's useless
This seems to be doing a lot better... any way though that I could replicate the status bar from PA? Id like to move the whole the bottom, it just makes more sense there, thumb naturally flicks "up" instead of reaching to the top to flick down...
EDIT: Im a dope- by "this seems to be doing a lot better" I was talking about a CM10 nightly. Any suggestions for moving the status bar?

As you should already be aware, because of the controversy and arguments they inevitably generate, "best ROM" threads are prohibited on XDA. Thank you. Thread closed.
Hi. I switched phones from a Samsung Galaxy Ace to a Sony Xperia Pro a year ago (got fed up with the touchscreen keyboard, wanted a real QWERTY keyboard.) I like the phone, but now that the warranty's expired I'd like to try a custom ROM or three, just to play with. Also I'm having battery life issues since upgrading to ICS (It's weird; the first time I upgraded it seemed to be OK, but I had to send the phone in for a warranty repair and they went and reflashed the firmware to Gingerbread on me. I reupgraded to ICS via Sony's PC Companion and now the battery life's terrible- about what it was on my Galaxy Ace.)
What I want is:
Everything working. I don't want to encounter problems such as the camera not zooming via the volume buttons, the front camera not working, keyboard layout problems, no wifi/bluetooth, etc. All hardware needs to work at least as well as when using the stock ROM.
Stability. No, or very few, crashes (nothing is perfect, I know), not a lot of force-closes of apps.
Good power management, even if this means slowing down the CPU clock. I'm willing to sacrifice some performance if that means that I don't have to recharge more than once a day. Also I'd like to be rid of some of the background services that I don't need or want, and that use up some juice. (BTW, my typical phone use is sending and receiving 3 to 4 texts per day, one or two voice calls daily, around 6 to 7 hours of web browsing using wifi, maybe 30 minutes playing solitaire, reading ebooks for an hour or three instead of web surfing, and occasionally using the camera or the flashlight, weather apps, calculator, etc.)
I want to be rid of Sony's bloatware. I don't need it.
I don't really care if the ROM has a lot of eye candy, bells & whistles, etc. or if it's a lot like the stock ROM in look and feel. However, k3wl things would be k3wl, so I'm willing to try them and play a bit.
BTW I'm a newbie when it comes to working with the Xperia. I got pretty good about rooting, modding and changing ROMs on the Ace, but Sony is a whole different ball game than working with Samsungs. So whatever ROM I end up choosing needs to have step-by-step instructions somewhere, with download links to everything I'm going to need.
Please post your ROM recommendations. TIA!
Edit: I've turned off data connections as I only use wifi, I've dimmed the display as low as it will go, I only turn wifi on when I'm actually going to use it and turn it off afterward, I never use GPS, I set it to flight mode at night- basically I've done everything I can think of to conserve power. I used to have around 50% of battery life left when I'd go to bed at around midnight or 1AM when I had Gingerbread, but now I have to stop and recharge at around 9 or 10PM. I start using the phone at around 6PM when my wife gets home as she tends to monopolize the computer- she's taking some online classes, and likes to sing along to YouTube to relieve work stress. So I'm typically on the phone and the web for 6 to 7 hours a day, and need enough excess juice to let the phone run idle all night so the morning's alarms can go off, and also to check the time if I wake up during the night.
There's no power outlet near our bed, so I have to do my recharging during the day (when I can use the computer), and besides, we have a bunch of dogs that might chew up the charger's USB cable- they already destroyed one. So I want to try to get 7 hours of web surfing/ebook reading, plus another 5 or 6 hours of idle/standby time.
BTW, I've looked at many of the ROMs listed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480 but there are so many of them! So I'd appreciate suggestions from people that are familiar with one or some of these ROMs to help me decide which one to use. Cheers!

Question: is that a ROM? It looks like just a collection of apps, unless I'm mistaken. How would they help boost my battery life and get rid of Sony's bloatware? (I'm kind of a newbie.)
nope it's a rom. it's not in the conventional ftf file format because it's a zip that you flash with cwm. It's a rom that's had all bloatware removed and a bunch of tweaks. i'm not very technical but it does actually work
oh and use this app. it clocks down the frequency to lowest when your phone's locked, therefore saving battery

Jelly sandwich is a stock sony ics based custom rom! Without bloatwares from sony! Check out it's thread. It has detailed instructions to install the rom! I also recommend you change your kernel n flash advanced stock kernel to increase your battery life. Speaking from personal experience and based on the daily usage you mentioned i would say you would get around 20 to 22 hrs of battery life!

If you want full functionality (working Cam, working HDMI), here are the top ROMS, which I have tried, that are being developed/maintained/updated:
Xperia Pureness (Ice Cream Sandwich)
Ultimate HD (Ice Cream Sandwich)
Jelly Sandwich (Ice Cream Sandwich)
XGamer (Gingerbread)
I'm currently using Xperia Pureness.. I have XGamer on the other Pro.
Ultimate HD is great too. Check on the thread. The developer's really mature and I think he's cooking a great update to be released soon.
XGamer, being GB, is fast, stable and battery friendly. We're using an old device, we have to admit. The Pro is not as responsive on ICS as it is on GB. So you're probably going to end up with that. Ive read its great with games as well.
Jelly Sandwich is nice, I just don't like how it's presented. Too much hype. Too much bling bling :laugh::laugh: Once it was even "advertised" by the developer as Android 4.2. But it's a great stable ROM as well, just like the previous ones mentioned.
Anyway, I suggest you try the above four ROMS yourself because at the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference. Best of luck :good:

OK, I took a look at Jelly Sandwich but decided it was too confusing for my tiny old brain- there were several 8.0 files, then a bunch of what I guess were updates all the way to 8.5, and I didn't see any "do this, then do this" lead-me-by-the-hand instructions. So I decided to try Ultimate HD. Got my bootloader unlocked, flashed the kernel using Advanced Stock for Xperia Pro. Couldn't get it to boot into CWM recovery, so I ended up nstalling CWM ROM Manager from the Play Store and used it to boot into recovery through that app. Whatever works. Wiped my cache & Dalvik, did a factory reset, rebooted (then had to reinstall CWM ROM Manager again.)
Ultimate HD installed just fine (sweet AROMA installation screens made it easy to set up), then I upgraded online to 2.0.1 and reinstalled all my favorite apps- decided to do fresh installations from Play Store rather than backing up and restoring, just to be sure everything's new.
So far, so good- it's pretty fast and stable, as far as I can tell. I'll play with it for a couple of days and see what my battery life is like. Need to find out what those governors do.
Thanks for the advice!
OK, I've used Ultimate HD over the weekend. I've noticed a few wee glitches- no show-stoppers though. For instance, in Album when viewing a particular picture, I click Throw, and notice that I have no context menu if I press the Menu button. All that's there are Trash, Share and Back icons along the top, which I didn't notice at first. The Back hardware button doesn't function when on this screen, you have to press the soft Back button on the screen. I thought the Album app had locked up.
I had one crash, when trying to load a web page while synching with Google/Gmail. The phone rebooted itself. Only happened once though.
So far, battery life's not that great, but it's better than with Sony's official ICS. I may try out a Gingerbread-based ROM later on down the road and see if that's "leaner and meaner' vis-á-vis battery life. Meanwhile, Ultimate HD is pretty cool, so I'll leave the phone alone for now.

PACMan ROM
I've been running on Mang's Pacman Rom for the pro and its great. Its ALOT smoother than ICS on the pro. Its basically stock jelly bean 4.1.2.
After flashing the given kernel you have cpu clock control, so for battery saving you can decrease that i guess. Battery has been ok so far. And basically everything you need is working. You just need to download ICS camera from google play, as the stock jelly bean one isnt working for now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924719
Note: the cpu is clocked at 1.6ghz when you first boot the rom. you should at least change it back to stock 1ghz, huge difference in battery life.
Should definitely give it a try. you have to google gapps for 4.1.2 if you want to use google now and the other standard google applications.

I have been an android fan for the past 2 years. Kept a couple of devices from motorola defy to Desire HD and now i bought Xperia s two months ago. I never stayed on a rom for more than a month but with xperia s (being my first dual core processor device) i thought about staying on official rom. Boy am i wrong? It lags quite annoyingly at times. Keyboard doesn't feel too buttery. It often hangs for a minute or two (i can't even remove the battery :/).
So should i wait until the official jelly bean firmware or is it going to be crap as well compared to the custom ones out there? Which ROMS are the best/smoothest ones out there?
Thanks in advance

Jelly bean should be quite smooth since the kernel will have Project Butter. It is forbidden to ask which rom is the best on XDA - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969555
Tip:- Just root your device and apply some build.prop tweaks, init.d scripts and debloat the rom. I am sure that you will start loving your XS.
As @abcdjdj already mentioned- Do not post questions like "Which ROM is the best".
As the MODS/DEVs says the point of the forum is to try out different ROMS.
Yeah, i've been away from XDA for a while and yes, the question wasn't phrased properly...
Any suggestions about the build.prop or any scripts to run? i have rooted my phone.
The question is.... Do you want to unlock the bootloader?

This is a collection of almost all tweaks - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069238
Here is a list of init.d scripts - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928464
Just go to /system/app and delete unwanted apks to debloat your rom.
Also, it is not necessary to unlock your bootloader to flash custom roms. Even with a locked bootloader, you can flash stock based custom roms like XZXperience etc. Unlocked bootloader is required for roms which use a different kernel like OpenSemc, CM9, CM10 etc.
STOCK ICS a lot slower and hangs too, that's a pain. All expecting the Jelly Bean update will solve most the issues. So i suggest you wait for that. As Sony said, the Update will be dispatched within this month sometimes.
Meanwhile you may check this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212586
Also try an app called "Pimp MY ROM" from Google Play. It has many performance enhanced tweaks. It's quite good. actually.
Read rather than post, that's my tip... There's no such thing as a best or smoothest ROM.
Check the responses here but also check the OP of the different ROMs, decide on 2 or 3 and try them for yourself.
It's certainly not something that you need to create a new thread to accomplish.

Hi everyone, I just created this thread as I would like to know who is still on GB 2.3.x. Which ROM (GB) are you using, what are the current bugs or issues? I am asking since I got my Glide with ICS 4.0.4. After some research I came here looking for some answers and procedures on rooting & flashing. Found exactly what I was looking for, thanks to you all btw. Got bored of ICS as it used too much RAM & battery, tried LiteRom, had some issues, then came back to sock rooted, was not convinced. Started using some JB ROMS, issues. KitKat... issues. I want to start using a GB ROM, but I would really like some feedback form experienced users in what are the pro's & con's for GB, as I am aware that there's a lot of apps not compatible with this O.S. I would appreciate some advice from you guys! Thanks in advance

Hi
even if I cannot help you regarding a pro/contra list for GB I'm interested in what your issues were in LiteROM? I'm currently developing a fork based on it because I also had issues - maybe I had the same and therefore solved already
And if so you may not need a pro/contra list anymore

Thanks for your reply ... I used it for a long time, I actually had some issues with the toggles turning on automatically, like gps, wifi and data... Camera will shut down the phone if less than 25% charge, if im not mistaken... Weird FC´s. Other issues I honestly do not remember. I was using ROMs based on KK4.4 like cr droid pac and CM11. But I went back to stock as I wanted a fully functional phone. Rooted, deleted all AT&T bloat. Did some tweaks, and so far so good. I never got used to the idea of GB as for now is way too old...

Camera will shut down the phone if less than 25% charge, if im not mistaken... Weird FC´s. Other issues I honestly do not remember. I was using ROMs based on KK4.4 like cr droid pac and CM11.

Hm never had a camera crash but in LiteROM you have the choice of 3 different camera apps maybe I use another one than you had. The toggle thing sounds more interesting because I can't remember that I saw that before! So you want to say that e.g. GPS is turning on automatically?
But I went back to stock as I wanted a fully functional phone. Rooted, deleted all AT&T bloat. Did some tweaks, and so far so good. I never got used to the idea of GB as for now is way too old...

Well so you are satisfied now ?

Oh hell no! Just saw your ROM post in General! Go read it LOL
My Glide has been in a drawer for over a year and I recently decided to try using it again. It's still on GB, rooted and unlocked. I ended up putting it back in the drawer, mainly because quite a few of my apps complained about not having ICS or above.
I would like to update it to a newer, stable, close-as-possible-to-stock ROM when I have time.
I have been using stock ICS 4.0.4 the last 3 weeks, I really have nothing to complain as I did some mods over the stock rom, mostly uninstalling all the att crap, and some unnecesary apps like gmail & google + running in the background consuming lots of resources. So far it has been great, plus I havent had battery issues. It will last the entire day, without a heavy usage of course. Currently waiting for the release of sedirom to try it out as Im getting used to the ol ICS as it is really stable, as if not 100% stable. Has anyone used Xposed with stock ICS? If you have, please let me know which mods have you done with it.

Had my wife on Stock until upgrading to ICS 4.04. Was a bit flaky and upgraded to KitKat. I can definitely say the looks of KK is much better but it sure was more stable on stock. Biggest issues tended to be BlueTooth as we continued upgrading..

I actually used Bubor´s CM11 with KitKat 4.4.2 & 4.4.3. It really is smooth and I really liked it, but I just like my phone with no issues at all, so I went back to stock ICS. Which Rom are you using for kitkat?

Using Bubor's OmniRom 4.4.4.... When we connect it to the car via Bluetooth (after deleting pairing, etc.) it still isn't working... On ICS 4.04 Bluetooth worked fine most of the time, but kept dropping ever so often. My wife's Fitbit Flex wouldn't connect either. Ironically, it does on 4.4.4....
Love my glide
from a hardware perspective I love my glide. I don't really want to upgrade to a new phone, but I have had several annoyances on it. One of them is the Google maps not working with Ice Cream Sandwich. Other annoyances too. I tired the KitKat rom here, and it's very good, but I was trying to get all of the google apps on and I hit a wall with the partition size. Seemed fixable but was driving me nuts. Not sure which direction I should go now.

gingerbread? not as a cwm zip.
So we all know there is something very wrong with 6.0.1. Does anyone knows when the battery drain started? Like are 6.0 roms also messed up? What about 5x roms? What rom is least likely to present battery issues for those who have actually had them?
6x? 5x? How about 4.4.4...Specifically, the Slimkat rom? That's what I've been running and, believe me, I've tried them all.
No other rom has given me the battery life, stability, and flexibility that this rom has. Battery lasts forever even with heavy use, and oh, do I use this thing. I'm an IT tech and my Nexus 7 is like a third hand to me. And when you use it the way I do, you can't mess around with dying batteries, instability and what not.
Trust me...newer roms with higher numbers and all kinds of eye candy are not always better.

I am running a 6.0.1 rom but am curious to try a 4.4.4 rom. Will the bootloader version cause any trouble?

Not sure about that. I use multirom and thus avoid any of that possible trouble. Allows me to switch between roms as easily as changing a pair of socks.

I too am running 6.0.1 with TWRP on bootloader 4.05 (or whatever the latest versions is). I was able to install Slimkat 4.4.4 no problem.

How do you check the boot loader version? I remember updating to the latest one while updating from lollipop 5.0.2 but I dunno how to check it now

I believe if you manually try to enter recovery mode it will show you at the preboot menu of Android. For instance, turn power completely off, then hold volume down + power, when that funky BIOS looking screen shows up where you can choose to enter bootload/recover mode, it will say at the bottom of the screen "bootloader = 4.05" or something like that.
On an unrelated note, I'm getting absolutely horrid wifi speeds on this rom. Just to download a 30meg app is going to take 30 minutes. Maybe bad radio version?

Yeah... Or reboot to bootloader (screen with green android) and see the bootloader version at the bottom of the screen.

Exactly right. Slimrom 4.4.4 is the best ever android ROM for overall stability, customization, performance, and battery life. Only ROM that ever came close was omni official 4.4.4. Used both on 3 different devices.

4.05 is, in fact, the latest bootloader.
