I don't know if you already knew this but your phone has safe mode.
When you boot in safe mode only the Android system is loaded. So if you have a problem with a certain app it is much easier to uninstall it that way.
Just hold both volume keys during boot.
If you are in Safe Mode your phone will show it on screen.
edit :
You can also long press the reboot option

Holding both volume keys would boot into Ramdump Mode, isn't it?

now before you try to flame me, ive gone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265399
from that i was able to root my phone, and also flashed a custom recovery
couple things, the tutorial doesnt say HOW to access the recovery once flashed, nor does it say HOW to flash a custom rom
can somebody point me to the tutorial for that?
im a lil confused as to flash with recovery or with the odin v1.85 thingy
Hold the volume up button and power button to enter recovery....haven't flashed a rom yet either. I guess through Odin if it's a .tar file and through recovery if its a zip. Haven't checked yet.

That's incorrect..
For Samsung Galaxy s2 epic 4G
vol down + power = download mode
Vol up + power = CWRecovery
Btw OP, your phone has to be turned off then do the button deal.

Hello,
Whenever I shutdown my phone and press arrow down + power I can only see "Start" and "Downloading" in the bottom. If I press the arrow keys to select recovery mode nothing happends.
I tried to reflash recovery through Rom Manager with no luck.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Volume Down and Power is not how to get to recovery on the Galaxy nexus.
You press BOTH volume buttons and power. This will take you to Fastboot, then use the volume buttons to select Recovery then press Power to select.

i think you have to go through hboot if the device is off. why is that important? it doesnt take that long to go through hboot. if your device iss uo with a custom rom, most support restarting into recovery.
Have to volume down + power to hboot, volume down let the search complete, volume down to recovery, power to select then you will boot to recovery doesnt take too long from a rom with power menu mod you can choose recovery and boot straight in or if your rom doesnt have a power menu mod you can use quick boot from the market to boot straight to recovery

You might have to do a factory reset in recovery mode. Thats normally the easiest way to get past softbricks.

- pull battery
- then hold home, volume up, and power and release when ever the blue text on top right flashes.
You flashed a TW kernel and not an AOSP one. That's why you got a bootloop
Vol up+power+home
