I would say that looks normal for you being on the phone but media is a little high there is an app you can try its called KMS media killer it basically kills your media process bug that causes your media to be higher than normal and cause battery drain look that up on Google and you should find it otherwise I would give the ROM a little more time to settle before pulling actual battery stats

Never seen a battery screen that had the phone as being double the screen. My screen is always several times higher than anything false, and the phone barely makes a mark on the battery.
I'd say you got problems.

I know I got problems, I rarely talk to anyone, use data more than voice.

I installed this ROM a few days ago and it seems to be eating away at my battery. My screen has been on for 59 mins, 68% battery left, 18 hrs standby. Ive barely used it at all. ive been purposely not using it trying to figure out what i wrong. I am coming from CM10.1. i also used battery calibration for chemistry ROM. I am on WIFI network. the battery cycle has used no 3G at all.
i also noticed that i lost about 10% battery or more overnight. i had 83 and woke up with 74. i dont think ive ever had that happen. i also had it on airplane mode so the battery should not have drained at all. someone please help me figure out what is going on.
Better Battery Stats
There is no way for us to really know what's draining your battery. You have to DL Better Battery Stats and monitor what is keeping your phone awake. Some biggies are Maps, email, and Calender. Good luck! :good:
I am on chemistry. 16 plus hours with over 3 hours screen time. Better then my evo lte. Only second day with phone though

No issues here. Try a different kernel.
Sent from my SGS3 using XDA App
*Chemistry_ROM v6
*Agat kernel v0.3.3 @1.89ghz w/ 18hr avg battery
I recommend flashing Ktoonsez TW kernel and underclocking your processor and also use some of these tweaks from team kernelizers they work wonders http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032956

are you a power user? what exactly is a power user? ive heard that factor matters in how long a battery should last. also, i am probably a moderate user. i dnt watch any movies, i only play temple run occasionally, text, 2 or 3 phone calls, etc.. my battery last 1 day

ktweaker seems to have made my boot up animation disappear. it has the nexus boot logo from chemistry rom. is that a big deal? also, i noticed that boot up is slow. when i rebooted my phone, the SU box came up to grant super user permission, ive done that quite a bit since installing ktweaker. i also underclocked. it that necessary with the ktweaker battery tweak? or is it like, one or the other?.. my phone seems a little laggy too.

Could be calender widget. The key is to look at the "raw stats, raw alarms" under "more" in BBS. What are the top three things waking your phone? If calender is up there it's probably the widget. I wouldn't change kernls just yet. A lot of times is just wakelocks keeping your phone awake.

how do i fix wakelocks?
Bbs is an app called Better Battery Stats. Very useful in detecting what is waking your phone hence draining your battery. Wake locks are not easily explained....at least by me they're not. You will have to do some research. I don't have links ready available..Sorry.

i will download BBS and see that is causing the drain.. thanks for the info. ill do some reasearch. do you know how long stock battery should last typically?

I would say 6-8 hours is the typical duration

thanks for all the replys, I will get BBS and see what's killing my battery, at 1st I though it was just having multiwindow tab showing, not much of a difference opened or closed.

Hi
Really hope someone can help me, I've posted this before but no one had any decent ideas.
I'm using LeeDroid 2.4.1 and battery is usually good except for one recurring problem, if not charging, in the middle of the night idle (screen off) battery useage shoots up from -1ma to mid to high 20s. This happens somewhere between 2am and 5am. I assume that the timings are more to do with the fact that it's the only time that my phone sits there without me touching it, rather than it being related to being the middle of the night?
I have Watchdog Lite which I thought might show showing using high CPU relating to the time that the high consumption starts, but it doesn't find anything.
Cheers in advance!

Have a look at the battery stuff in About Phone. That might help. Also, I don't see high 20s are a real problem, ok it might drain a bit but not that bad. When you idle your screen, depending on the brightness you can easily get 150mA though. The problem is probably an app. Have a look what's running in the background, Settings, Applications, Running Services

Cheers for the reply, the info in About Phone just usually shows Android System, Cell Standby & Phone Idle - nothing unusual in there.
The thing is that I haven't touched the phone for the last 3 or 4 hours before it does it (so the screen isn't on) and going up to 20s is a massive jump from 1ma.
There isn't much in Running Services either. I think I need something that logs processor useage by each app/service that I can look at and match the times up?
You'll have to look in the market. I don't need an app like that so no idea. You should be getting 2-4mA in atandby

I would suggest SystemPanel - it has a monitoring service that can diagnose such problems for you.

How did you manage to get 1mA? Is it on the airplane mode ?
I have never seen such good result in mine.

I use Leedroid ROM with undervolt and set the Smartass governor between 128 & 998. Not in Airplane mode, but have mobile data on and a full signal.
I presume I'm actually getting 1mA and it's not lying to me!?

I have system panel and as far as I can see it doesn't throw up anything that correlates to when the useage shoots up.
This is from last night:

I wonder if it's not app related seeing as nothing shows up as being used. Could it be the governor not keeping the CPU speed down or something like that? Radio?
Thanks guys, would be great to get this nailed.
I've a similar issue - standby of 3-5mA, but keep getting jumps to 30, 50 even 90mA, and cannot work out what's causing it. Have a similar stepped graph like your 09.47 screenshot - poor reception here but assume it's an app but even with System Panel I cannot see what's causing this. Any ideas

You're on the same radio as me, have to tried any others (apart from the one you've got a next to)?
If it was an app I'd expect it to show up some where, either system panel or the since unplugged use screen.
Your android system usage would be much much higher if it was an app causing it.

Cheers.
So if it's not an app any ideas where else I should be looking?
I did wonder if it was something stupid that 3 do to their network. It's happened in at least 3 different locations, all at least 75 miles apart so it's not a dodgy mast.
Nothing shows up as an app usage as it's only a blip peaking, thus not using up too much juice or showing up.
In airplane mode I get a constant 2mA usage, turning on the radio (not fm one...) w/ wifi and sync off (just flashed rom, nothing setup to sync) is all I need to do to experience jumps, so suspect it's something to do with reception searching?
Not tried many other radios long enough to tell which is good and bad.
Install Spare Parts, go to battery history and choose Partial Wake Usage, you'll find bad app.

I've just flashed 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08
Nothing much seems to have changed, GPS took about 15secs but it's usually pretty quick anyway.
I'll see if it does anything to my battery drain problems.

Nothing is listed apart from 2m 14s of Android System...guess that's the phone searching for a (better) signal?
Trying the HTC-RIL_2.2.1003G ril and 32.49/54/56 radios to see if any help with that.
32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08 still did the same thing, 1mA then jumps up into 20s for 4 hours.
Just flashed 32.49 - will see how it goes tonight.
Strangely I thought my internet was being a bit slow (3G) so I've just tested with 56 and then with 49 about 20mins apart, it could just be coincidence but....
32.56 = Down 1640 Up 1524
32.49 = Down 2279 Up 1547

what about sensor and other usage?
Ok so saw this and was hoping someone might be able to help me....
My phone uses around 90mA of battery as on standby which is about 10% an hour
I've literally tried everything that has been suggested so far, i'm using oxygen and have done about 5 clean builds then installed nothing extra and still got the same result!
I'm sure it's not the radio as i get the same problem when i have it in airplane mode! But if you think i may be then please say!
I've tried a new ROM (Redux v1.2) incase that was the problem! No joy!
As far as i know the Kernel is the only thing that controls the battery usage? (I've tried several suggested ones) But if there is something else that controls this please let me know what it is and how i can change it! (Also i've tried wiping battery stats and stuff it's not that!)
One final thing in this epic post, how can i wipe/flash every part of my phone?
As unless this is a hardware fault (i've tried a different battery too, so not that!) i figure there must be something hanging around and causing the problem! Every clean build i did involved a factory reset, a wipe data partition and wipe dalvik cache (all via clockwork). So is there a deeper clean i can use?
I've been having the problem for a while and still haven't sorted it so any help or advice would be appreciated
Well i been noticing a lot of people complaining (or commenting) on bad battery life on a ROM they just flashed. I decided to start a thread on how tips to improve battery life. It's not necessarily a ROM that gives you bad battery life (specially if most people comment on how great it is)....there might be a few thing you or your phone is doing to cause this.
First: After flashing a new ROM, you will have the worst battery life ever. The battery will have go through a few cycles before battery life will be apparent. It is also worth noting that sometimes a battery calibration will have to be done by either traditional methods or by the Die Hard Battery Calibration Script by Zeppelinrox. (Not sure if it really works, never tried it…..but its worth mentioning)
Second: Turn off unnecessary sync’s in the phone (toggle button) and apps, such as Facebook, XDA (sorry xda), emails…etc). Yes it is cool to have your Facebook notify you every 30 minutes about somebody’s activities, but that takes up power. I am not saying turn off everything, but you have to find your sweet spot about what is to be on.
While we are talking about deactivating sync’s or limiting them, let’s talk about widgets for a second. Let’s not forget widgets are in automatic sync, sometimes you can control the frequency, and they will use extra system resources such as WiFi, 4G/3G, GPS, etc and this means extra battery usage.
Third: Turn off all radio's such as 4G/3G,WiFi, and GPS when not in use. It goes without saying that if you are not connected to WiFi, it is going to use up battery searching for connectivity. Also, If you notice that you lost signal completely while at work or in a building for an extended period of time, I suggest turning Airplane Mode on. I use Airplane Mode at work and my battery drops 2-3% in 4 hours. You can also turn off data (4G/3G) when you phone is not in use by simply turning off the data toggle.
Forth: I highly recommend using the apps, GSaM Battery Monitor, Better Battery Stats, and CPU Spy to monitor and verify wake locks and apps stealing power. I also recommend Eugine's app, CPU Sleep. All are available on the market and also free on XDA, but why not pay the 2 bucks and support the dev's.
GSam battery monitor used to be Badass Battery Monitor (because it was [email protected]) but i guess too many people complained so he changed it to GSam, but it still is the best out there with very minimal system drain. What this app does is explain to you what is using battery and how much. You can see what inactive app is using battery. It will also show you wakelocks, and what apps held your device awake and for how long. A lot of useful info to help track down battery drain.
Better Battery Stats is a more in-depth info about wakelocks from kernel wakelocks, partial wakelocks, alarms (scheduled wakelocks for each app) and so much more. This can be intimidating to look at and read at first, but you will learn your way around it quickly and what it is telling you. It does include a database link to most wakelocks to help explain most wakelocks.
CPU Spy is useful to be to help determine what my CPU is doing throughout the day and shows Deep Sleep which is very important when tracking down battery drain. This is, in my opinion, optional. Not necessary to track down the culprit of battery drain, but it helps for me.
CPU Sleep is a wonderful app designed by Eugine that when the phone hits deep sleep...it ensures all but one core is sleeping until you wake the device. Far as i am aware, it only works for TW ROM's....i am sure he is developing for CM and AOKP ROM's, if he hasn't done so already.
Fifth: Screen Brightness. Now I know we have a huge cool screen and you want others to see it, so you jack the brightness up to 100% or on Auto. The fact is we have a HUGE screen that loves to eat up battery power like it’s nobody’s business. Now I know putting it on the auto selection sounds like a way to sound power. And in a way it is, but you have to realize it takes more power cycling through different levels. I suggest lowering it low as possible that you are comfortable with. I use 20% brightness, and I feel that you use less power than auto because it’s a constant brightness now going from dim to bright and everywhere in between. (-thanks mrrobc97 for the reminder)
While we are talking about displays, mrrobc97(thanks again) also brought up the about turning off landscape views, not to use live wallpapers, and the use of dark wallpapers and themes.
He also reminded me about disabling apps on startup .He and I recommend the app Autostarts from the playstore. I highly recommend this app over anything I used, including Rom Toolbox’s feature that does this. Not to downplay Rom Toolbox in anyway (it is a great app) but I have had bad luck lately with the autostart feature in the past…probably my own fault for fudging something up I shouldn’t have been (usually disabling YouTube is when it goes haywire with FC’s). Autostarts is a bit more advanced then RT’s autostart tool.
Sixth: 3rd party app killers do nothing. Yes they kill everything running on your phone, but the apps you just killed in your background will restart, thus using more battery power to start back up than it would of if you just left them running. This also is the same when you do this in the stock app manager too. (thanks blunified for the tip).
If you have anything to add or correct, please feel free to post and I will add.
Right now i get about 17-20hours on average of battery life on a work day, and 20-26 hours average on a non working day.

Update 7/29:
Revised my original post and added in tips from members mrrobc97 and bluntified.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but a lot of this stuff is situational. I think the majority of the frustration people have is when their phones are draining quickly while using basic functions; the reasons why we buy these phones in the first place.
I've tried every gimmick and gadget to get better battery life, but I can't seem to reliably get my phone to drain at much less than 10% an hour, unless I'm just straight up not using it.
I was getting 7-8% on Darkside v8, but since he's taking a break from it I decided to try some other stuff out. That's the best I've had, coming from Juggernaut and DW before.
Same deal with cm9 and AOKP, about 10% an hour with a busy work email, one Gmail account, fair amount of texting, checking my RSS feeds and XDA every hour or so. Screen on automatic brightness.
It's not horrible, but it's not great. Maybe I have a wonky device? Either way, I like having what I use always available, and if this is the battery life trade off for that, I'll deal with it. I live and work in Manhattan so it's not like I'm ever far from a charger.
What am I gonna do, get an iChick phone?
Hell no.

I understand what your saying. The point i was trying to get a lot of people was to realize that a lot of wasted power loss comes from apps not allowing the device to sleep as it should. I remember watching my phone draining 20% an hour in airplane mode come to realize later that i had to many widgets refreshing, all sync's on and updating every 30 minutes with other apps constantly active not allowing the phone to hit deep sleep at all. I totally agree about a battery should last a longtime without having to check for wakelocks and whatnot. I think the blame comes from a mixture of poorly written apps, android power management system that's not working efficiently as it should, and a battery that should of been a bit bigger.
For sure. People need to have reasonable expectations though. If everything is light up like the Vegas strip your phone isn't going to last very long. But if you have everything minimalist and turned off you have an expensive pet rock. I think the best advice you can give is the self diagnostic stuff so people can examine their habits and figure out a fun to battery balance that works for them. The programs you suggested are all good ones that have helped me out at various points.
I've almost chucked my phone out the window because of the damn media process always running ffs.

No not saying that at all. But do you really need to have everything on a half hour sync? Actually just a manual sync would greatly improve battery life.

I need to throw in Autostarts app. It enables/disables an app start-up on system boot-up. It also enables/disables an apps start-up when certain events happen (like when a charger plugs in it will start-up a certain app on when an app makes another app start-up that you probably don't need on). It really needs to go on your list Biker.
Another thing you forgot to mention is the screen brightness and your choice of the background theme or wallpaper. OK common knowledge you should know by now... BRIGHTER SCREEN = HIGHER BATTERY CONSUMPTION... don't keep it the lowest cuz you're going to end up switching it back and forth depending how bright your surroundings are thus wasting more battery...just keep it on AUTO! Also...do you really need that snow landscape for your wallpaper? Do you have to view your kids everytime you wake-up your phone?...NO?...then find the darkest coolest wallpaper you could live with. And last go through all your apps and (if the option is there) choose the darkest background theme available, like for the mail, sms/mms, or tapatalk app.
...on another note...YES, I will agree that in order to get maximum life from your battery you will have to sacrifice alot of the stuff that makes your smartphone cool like the amount of widgets you could be running, bright ass screen settings, or that live wallpaper you're running. You also sacrifice instant use of your phone (i.o.w. instead of checking your Facebook widget to see what's up you have to---open notification toggles - enable data/wifi - go to app drawer - open Facebook app - wait for it to load - then see what's up). All that coolness its whats sells a smartphone (see commercials) but it comes at a high battery-drainage price.
My wife has a t989 like me but white and so does her lil' sis. Her setup is identical to mine for the exception of a few apps and that she has a purple version of my Blutiful theme. She's always telling me (or talking **** i.m.o.) about how on her lil' sis phone you are able to view Facebook, YouTube, and News right on her screen (i.o.w. widgets) and not hers and I tell her its not gonna happen cuz I don't want her *****ing later on about how the "phone" sucks cuz the battery lasts half a day JUST like I always hear her lil'sis *****.
...so anyways the point I'm trying to make is that you have to make that choice (coolness vs battery life) or try to find YOUR sweet spot between both of them. Another thing you could do is have a few spare cheap batteries from ebay. They work almost as good as the OEM and for all we know they probably come from the same place and just slap different labels on them. Buy a cheap $3 battery charger also and have them charged and just keep one at home/car/work like that you could swap if the need arises. I also bought a few cheap home/car phone chargers from ebay and also have them at home/car/work. They have all worked good for me w/o any issues. You might catch me with my pants down one day but you will NEVER catch me with a dead phone I promise.

Another thing to note is, using the "kill all" button on your task manager will use more battery. There are apps that need to run in the background, when you close it, it will have to reopen itself and use more battery power.
Altogether, task managers are no good.

When ya get almost even 200mhz and deep sleep state. IE 200mhz 44% deep S 44%..numbers will vary of course. That is the ideal. Dam near only way to get low 200mhz is in airplane mode.lol..
Thanks guys will give CPU spy a try, been that its free but I see a different Rom in my future. A phone should not be so complicated just to run ICS. I was trying to talk her into staying with gb for a while but she felt left out because her coworkers made it sound like her phone was in the dark ages with gb. After her ff18 ota and initial crappy batt life and her nagging I figured I'd try some akop, aaargghhh, not good. Back to gb until ICS gets fixed. I'll just give her some ICS theme.

that's good news to me I guess i am using ondemand governor so i am not sure if that has something to do with it but battery drains fast... not as much as on official ics stock rom but being on on WiFi at work for 8 hours should not drain my battery half way with very minimal usage.

I do a lot of reading and searching in this forum, and only this forum have tried other forums and xda is always the best and most informative.
I had sampled some of the early ics leaks on my phone and had some decent batt stats but could not deal with the quirks and bugs the early builds had, that's why I just stuck with gb. I figured by the time ff18 ota got here that the bugs would be gone, will 99% of the bugs are gone, but the battery bug has got to be the worst. Anyways I have switched her phone back to gb with some ics themeing and all is well for now.
Agat'a ics Rom looks promising, maybe in another month or so ics will get that final polish.
Until then, gingersnaps with my coffee.

Can you elaborate on how you accomplished this. I have non rooted stock ICS and i get about 12-13 Hours with Mild use. My battery Stat always shows Android OS between 70-80% utilization as the culprit on the battery drain. I have read literally hundreds of threads over the last month and every post i read that claims to "fix" the battery issue has had zero impact with my phone. I also have a new Battery and the one that came with the phone which is about 6 months old.

That Android OS is annoying but it also has to do with how much stuff do you have running in the background, do you have a lot of widgets going at the same time. Everyones phone is different and I stay away from stock because on stock you can not fully control everything running.
Do you have an ad blocker, did you stop BS apps from loading up on start up, are all your google apps running? So many things effect battery life its not funny.

On my new phone battery lasts for only 6 hours even if I don't use it (the phone is in the sleep). Battery lasts for same time if I use or don't use the phone. I did hard reset and nothing has changed. There are only few apps installed on the phone. What could be the problem?

Finnaly someone with common sense. In no user manuals for last 10 years havent I seen an instruction to charge and discharge to 0% three times. If anyone noticed, these new batteries come precharged already, you can just put it in the cell phone and make some calls. It won't damage the battery at all.
How about we focus on the real question here, and find out, what are android phones are doing, that is so important, that it keeps them awake at night? Just today, i charged my cell phone to 100% around 1am, and after I woke up at 9 with 57% of battery left, because Android System kept the phone awake 5h 53m out of 5h 54m on battery.
Packages included:
Key Chain
CredentialManagerService_1_5
HDMI
Settings
System UI
AudioEffectService
Google Backup Transport
Settings Storage
Android System
FmRxService
So all these things seem to be very important, because they need to run in foreground all the time (so it seems)

@Dadovvv: check settings/battery to see what is using your battery the most.

I will suggest NOT TO USE all those apps on market that promise battery saving cause they usually drain much more energy themselves. So on ics go to developer options in settings and tick third option from bottom (killing unused processes ASAP) and use task manager (hold home button a bit until recent apps show) then swype and kill them. If all this doesnt fix it buy new battery
Edit: so i saw on screenshots gingerbread, i suggest upgrading to ics. Its free and better os. But i also see that you should replace battery

Ty.. How do you mean Gingerbread, I updatead to newest software (ICS)? I haven't installed any app from market. Phone is one month old. Please read my posts, I have explained everything..
Wow i am an idiot, but that doesnt change fact that you need new battery
ICS has a bug in its firmware, that causes Android OS or Android System to drain battery.
To avoid it, Restart your phone after every charging!

i agree that ics has a bug in firmaware..i tried and restart and same drain.
u think that the warranty applies to this case?
I dont know what you people are talking. In my case battery lasts at least 2 days even when i listen to music at least 3 hours a day and use wi-fi almost all day...
Using ICS 4.0.4 rooted stock rom (bloatware removed)

what release are u using? is it this one?
LT18i_4.1.B.0.431_Generic World Greece
cause im using this one aswell and i never manage to get 2 days out of it with heavy use...
Actually i dont know, how do i check that? (i think it is Nordic but not sure)
I think you can only check that in the filename of ftf that you flashed
@Dadovvv: Since the cell standby wastes a lot of energy, it may be, that you are on border of two cells, and your cell phone is constantly switching between them. Just for testing purposes, switch on airplane mode, and re-do the test (untouched cell phone until battery dies).

I flashed Xperia Arc (LT18i)_4.0.2.A.0.42_CE.ftf and than updated to 4.0.4
(i have no idea what it is)
And nice idea for airplane mode test!
I decided to send mobile to repair.
To see, what uses the battery, you can also use BetterBatteryStats. Very useful app, shows a lot of info about the usage.
Search it on xda.
Sent from my Xperia Arc S using xda premium
using sense 2.1 virtuos 2.0.0 rom. The same on other roms.
And that is almost 1 day with only some sms and visiting forum on toilet
Should I do some kind of calibration or recharging or something ? (something rather safe)
there are o so many things that can drain a battery , roms, radios, apps, etc
you will need to get slightly more specific such as your radio, how many hours does it last between charges, how long is the screen on for? and as much detail as you can.
also if you google search for ways to improve battery life on android phones you will get a whole lot of info, most will be goo and do it. personally id say stay away from any task killers or adding apps like juice defender (all though this is debatable) but try some things out and or give some more info. worse case scenario a new battery is cheap
Not sure how many hours. But not even a whle day. And that is not more than 2 hours of usage, like typing sms or listening to mp3 + a lil camera action.
it was always about 2 days but it got worse recently.
Default virtuouous 2.00 with sense 2.1 No additional widgets etc or applications in background

I dunno. I find that hard to believe because virtuous 2.0 is very battery efficient. I got at LEAST 1 day out of it.

Try a fresh install and you can also try a few different kernels. I know eugene has a good sense one streamlined on another site. And virtuous 10 is a good one as well. Try those and see how they work out man. I'm sure you may have something eating your batt. Get betterbatterystats from the apps in android on this site and see what's eating that thing up. Hope these help.

You can try to install Watchdog Task Manager. It will notify you if some background app is eating up your CPU.
5hours awake time. from 100% to 5%
That is sms, some browsing (forum).
screen 74% battery. 40% brightness
