Hi guys,
I am having problems with an Xperia Play R800i... The handset is currently running 2.3.4 but the same problem was present on 2.3.3 prior to updating the handset. I apologize if this has been covered before.
The problem is that the handset does not seem to pick up a wifi signal whatsoever. I have tested with several different routers as well as trying several different types of network (open, shared, WPA, WEP etc). I have also installed wifix manager but this has not helped.
The handset also cannot utilize the bluetooth.
I have since taken the handset apart to check for any loose connections and was very surprised to see that there is a "burn" on the inside of the casing behind the screen (near the sim slot) and there is also a burn on what looks like the wifi/bluetooth antenna.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same or similar issues? and also wonder if the burn is causing the problems with the wifi?
Thanks in advance.

I have this rather annoying issue on the Desire. The phone is brand new, i bought it upon release. The problem is that whenever i enable GPS on the phone the Mobile Network connection gets killed. Attempting to reactivate it by switching mobile network on and off does nothing.
The only way to get the mobile Network back up again is to switch of GPS and reboot the phone.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? (i searched the forums, only found one user on these forums)... It could help me figure out if this issue is limited to my device...
Regardless, I already contacted HTC on this matter, i will post their response here as soon as i get it.
Thanks!
Odd. The only thing that springs to mind is that somehow the A-GPS is messing with your network. Try disabling A-GPS.
Is the phone bought from the network provider? If so, any network incompatibilities is their responsibility. Or even if it was store bought, you have reasonable expectations from HTC that it should work with local networks. If its gray import however, you're probably on your own.
Yep same issue with my HTC: When GPS enabled -> No more data transfer.
I'll also send a mail to HTC.
I reset the phone to factory settings today and to problem is now gone. My best guess is that the issue was caused by a third party app i installed (i'm not sure however, since all apps are sandboxed).
I installed two apps that made use of location services: GPS Status and Trapster. I'll download them again to see if they are the cause of this problem.
Please post back here if the factory reset works for you. This could help other people that experience this problem.
BTW, does anyone know of way to read error logs of the device? The OS must have software errors logged somewhere...
Thanks for the replies!
Received an answer from HTC (sent a mail about my Data Connection Problem few days ago):
"Thank you for contacting us in regards to connectivity on your Desire, I can help you with that. This issue has been reported to our developers for investigation and we hope to have a solution available soon. I trust that this resolves your query"
Hope also this "solution" will be available soon...
Guys,
I did a hard reset (return to factory settings ) on my Desire today and guess what:
Both my Data problems (no data after use of Wifi and or GPS) are gone !
Tested several times Wifi & GPS , also did a reboot and tested again, all seems working again, no more 3G data problem anymore.
So I guess one of the extra apps I installed caused the 3G Data Connection issue.
I'll reïnstall them one by one to see if I can catch the "guilty" one.
I also hope that problem doesn't return after a while without a cause.
Hi guys, I have a problem with my Arc connecting to my WiFi.
It connected the first time with no problems at all and I was able to browse for long with no disconnection. I manually disconnected and ever since it won't connect again. At my WiFi settings it keeps saying connecting. . . followed by disconnected over and over again.
I have searched the forum and googled and could not find the exact problem I'm experiencing.
I have tried 3 different firmware versions and it is the same problem on all of them.
I have cleared all user data and cleared the SD card with no success.
I have tried all the different security modes on my router (Billion 810 VGTX).
Also tried changing regulation domain as well as the channel ID.
My friend came over with his X10 and he connected fine until he disconnected manually and he now has the same problem, he can't get it to reconnect again.
So I think it must be the router if it is happening to both of us?
Please, if any of you geniuses can give opinions as to what could be the problem I would greatly appreciate it.
If I missed this in the search, I do apologize.
Regards
Rudi
Hi
I had similar problem. The previous release was ok for me: 4.0.2.A.368.
There might be an issue with the .283.
Hi guys the past week I've bought HTC EVO 4G(used = no warranty).. it have the problem with wifi/bluetooth/fm radio ...
I was searching in a lot of forums and many people have this problem too but there not a specific fix, so I've opened the phone and watch for myself just to see if there's a problem with the hardware.... and I've discovered that my phone doesn't have the external antenna connector...
so I think that maybe I can fix the problem if I reemplace that part (antenna) but the problem here is that the part is not comercial.
so searching and searching I've discovered that this antenna is like that the phones have (it's a external connector but I've read if this connector get damaged the signal reception will fail) ... so maybe I can take from a old phone and remplace. or maybe do a bridge with other antenna on the phone(evo has about 6 on the mobo) like antena of gps. but really I don't know if this connector has especifications or if later this mod will give me problems.
Really I want to know if this is the problem... I thought that xda-developers is the place for my question get cleared.
ote: this is not software problem, because I have done: wipes, restores, rom(RUU too), kernals, radios... but no luck
other thing is that sometimes (randomly) the bluetooth/wifi turn on but the bluetooth doesn't scan and the wifi shows "unable to scan networks".
now logcat just shows "wifi driver load error end 2" (obviously there's more log about it)
this is the image of what I'm talking about (is not my pic but is edited)

Thanks
wow
i wish there was a fix, mine comes on but the fone has to be like 3 feet at max from the bluetooth device. and with wifi. the phone has to be in the same room as the router.im suprised xda doesnt have the answer. so many people have this issue
Hello everybody.
I've read thousands of post about the matter, but can't find the solution. So here I go:
I received a used HTC Desire HD as a gift: It was an Orange UK, but as for today I managed to root and S-OFF it. I've tried several ROMs (right now I have Android Revolution HD 7.4), but the problems persists. Whenever I tried to turn on Wifi, after a few seconds it shows:
"Error"
So I'm thinking it's a hardware issue. BUT, as a last resource, I'd like to try some old ROM to see what happens (as I have read that some Orange DHD got troubled after updating). Tried on SHIPPED ROMS (Ace model), but every zip I download is faulty.
Any ideas or suggestions would be higlhy appreciated.

WIFI antenna is in battery cover.. That could be your problem!
Please check my post about covers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368435

Thanks! I'll check that.
However, It is very difficult for me to access to new covers, as HTC isn't very popular in my Country (Argentina).
Do you know if GPS shares antena with Wi-fi?
The manual states that Wifi and Bluetooth antena are located "behind battery cover". However, Bluetooth conection works just fine. Besides, I tried to activate both GPS and Bluetoth with the cover out of the phone, and they worked.

Well the GPS antenna is under the flash cover. I'm not sure about the Bluetooth antenna as I rarely use Bluetooth. Have you checked to see if there are any black spots on the battery cover contacts. If there is, that is the plastic showing through the gold conductive paint, and then you will have problems. Other than replacing the cover, or painting some conductive paint on the contacts, I really can't think of much else to try. Do you know anybody with the same model? Perhaps you could swap the battery covers to test. If it doesn't work after that, it may well be another hardware problem.
Hello. I've poked, googled and searched around trying to find a way to fix this annoying issue.
Long story short: till 2004-2005 Wi-Fi N bands weren't legalized for civilian use in Russia. Now they are and we here still sometimes receive such devices which block usage of those bands. I've faced the same idiocy with Xperia S.
GB worked with channels 1-11 of Wi-Fi N (yet 12-13 should have been available too since Russia != US). Still it was bearable. ICS was the same (I've inquired about this issue a couple of times on the official forum to no avail).
Here the long-awaited JB update comes up (hooray) and bam - Wi-Fi N is blocked. Now if I pull out the sim card and turn on my phone - it will successfully connect to Wi-Fi N network. If I put it in and reboot the phone - the phone will connect to the N network for the first few seconds and then - as soon as it initializes the sim card - it will drop the connection. If I don't enable 'G/N mixed mode' on my home router, it will be sitting with no connection and showing me that N network but it would not connect to it.
Now as I told before I've been searching around internetz and was able to find some lose ends and few possible fixes to this issue.
1. Region code change. Doesn't work. It did before when the phone wasn't able to connect to channels 12-13. But now when N doesn't work at all this fix doesn't help. It looks like the problem lies deeper now.
2. Messing with wpa_supplicant. Works... sorta. I've replaced stock wpa_supplicant file with this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2399391 . It kinda works after that but starts acting up further down the line. E.g. it connects to a N network and everything's cool and dandy BUT when I leave my home and wake up the phone somewhere else I see that it still thinks it's being connected to my home network. It sees the other networks around it at the moment but it doesn't want to choose them as it kinda connected to my home one. Which is nowhere near. And if I get back to my home with the phone in such state - it won't continue to exchange data over my Wi-Fi network. So to fix that I have to turn wi-fi off and then on again but I don't like such a behavior since in my town there are a lot of free wi-fi hot spots around (in public transport, at bus stations, in cafes, etc) and I'd like my phone to choose and connect to open hot spots automatically.
So could someone please shed some light on how all this restricting thing works, what mechanism is responsible for available Wi-Fi modes except region code field in the databases and how do I fix that? (or break it?). I mean the second fix is almost works but it looks like wpa_supplicant wasn't hacked properly. Maybe there are other wpa_supplicant files available?
Thank you!
Edit: forgot to mention that I'm talking here about Xperia S, firmware versions are: JB .200, .211, .96
The same problem with my xperia ION from Syria , i try many APPS to change region code but no luck , and then change wpa_supplicant file but i face same your problem and i am suffering of about this problem , and i already change my rom from 211 to 96 and the problem still .

Yea, I saw few people here from Syria and from some other African countries also and they all had similar problem. Although I didn't know anything about legal status of Wi-Fi N bands in Syria so I've decided to create a new topic.
It looks like this problem is quite wide-spread and before Sony officially acknowledges it, I hope we'll get some help from devs around here. I wonder if the devs actually look through troubleshooting branch of forum. Something tells me they don't.
I mean if there are fixes available it shouldn't be too hard to modify something in the system to get that damn thing working. This wpa_supplicant fix is especially interesting but I can't find any tutorial on how to edit it. Google keeps silence.
Did you find any solution for this problem , because I try many article but no luck .

No man, still nothing. I've put my hopes on Sony, thought they will update. Looks like I was wrong
