Lag? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone running stock. And getting lag? Idk why but sometimes when I text or do something I get a lot of lagggg and it pisses me off -___-
Sent From Land Of Ooo.

I thing the most lag I have experinced on this device is 2 seconds at most (outside of network switching from 3g to 4g)
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app

Then im guessing what can it be.? I texted and I get a lot of lag. Unless its all the uccw widgets I have o.o
Sent From Land Of Ooo.

I experienced some lag a little while ago and I figured out that it was only really happening with my messaging app. I figured out that I didn't have the "delete old messages after so many" checked and I had accumulated a rather surprising amount of texts! After I fixed that, my phone went right back to normal. Might not be it for you, but that helped mine

Its lagging really bad. Even on my lock screen the ripple thing lags -____- it sucks.
Sent From Land Of Ooo.

I would suggest pull the battery for 30 seconds, reboot see if that helps, if not verify the rom/kernal/modem are all compatible with each other or even update to latest versions... if thats ok and still laggy then reflash your preferred rom/kernal/modem(be careful with the modem part and try leaving this alone if at all possible, as youve probably read the horror stories)... let us know if you have any success

Well im not rooted so that cant be it. But after messing around with it I got to the conclusion that UCCW was the one that was giving me lag. Since in the past in my s2 I would get apps that would lag the phone even if it had a custom rom and kernel. So I installed uccw and it stop? Ill play with it more later after work. Since I need my uucw >.> thanks guys.

My locl screen lags a lot I don't know why. I unlocked a s3 with ripple effect n it was nice. My note 2 "better than s3" can4 even do that...;/
Sent From Land Of Ooo. Using My Note 2.

If im not mistaken, our phone has that ability already (not sure which one exactly but I have seen it somewhere), but ots really just going to take time.... put it like this, the longer devs are working on our phones the better, it just takes time. S3 has no where near the challenges of this phone, nor the potential, plus all the extra time they have had... not to mention, you could always ask the dev to put it in (good luck waiting for samsung to unroll, whether customers demand it or not)...

Well thats true. Are phones are better but idk why I get lag in the lock screen only...oh well. I just got the phone and its stock. But ill just get used to it. I alqays wanted this phone

How long is the lag... outside of a couple seconds (which if you understand governor processes, and how many step intervals our quad processesor mandates) than nothing is outta the ordinary... everything will improve... infact custom kernals already better that process, which is why rootibg to atleast try an uptodate stock rom/kernal or even modem flash is suggested... if after all thes things your phone still has issues than it is indeed defective and worth replacement

Ive rooted other phones...the fact that this phone is 800$ keeps me away from doing it. I have rooted it once. Came back to stock. I didnt install any rom since ive read that u lose IMEI and things like that...but idk the lock screen it doesnt lag its the ripple like it kind of lags when I touch it. Or when I unlock it. It doesnt show like the 3 water drops ripple or moves with the finger. It stays were u 1st place the finger and thats it. Its weird. Idk how to explain it xD. Sorry. But ehh its kwl. Lol.
Sent From Land Of Ooo. Using My Note 2.

Only time ive really heard about people losing imei and things like that are with people that:
A) flash a non-TMobile rom (or "non-ported rom")
Jedi X series, (not to be confused with the Jedi Master series), is a direct GN2 port (from att I think) made for the TMO GNII. Why, you ask? Jedi X series is based off 4.1.2 (which TMO has yet to release)
Jedi Master series is 4.1.1 (based off "pure, but debloated with better kernal" TMO version, ETC)
B) Messed up while changing the modem during rom install. Like with a rom that "updates the modem" or aroma-like installer of modem
C) phone-unlocking mishaps (ie nothing to do with root, recovery, rom flashing)
D) and then even people who "forgot they were in a different carrier/phone thread and, repeated the same mistake as those outline in A...
Since you already rooted once, I bet you that if you follow all the proper steps (and even, like me, dont even "do a efs/nv/modem/imei backup" other than through CWM/TWRP) and flash Jedi Master 9 or even a ported4TMO Jedi XX, you will not lose anything and that "LAG" problem goes away... BET

Some roms do auto flash modems and even if it doesnt , but its made for a different carrier, you might screw up your phone (bork?), especially without a backup of originals...(yet even without a back up, others have still been able to solve this problem)

Okay. What if I wanna flash this rom right here.?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987634...
What would be the steps to not screw up the phone. I know ill have to root again and then install (twrp which is the recovery I used to use in my s2) then make a nandroid? <<<just in case. The download rom and use directions has in OP. No need to flash anything other than that?
Sent From Land Of Ooo. Using My Note 2.

Yes sir... when flashing, use the aroma installer one (1g download, not the 700m) so you can be sure the modem isnt touched... also aroma allows for more customization... enjoy

[Q] G/F Friendly Set-up

Hey guys, I got a Nexus a few months ago and passed the Epic to the g/f (which I regret). Anyway, I have AOKP 35.1 on it and she is having issues. Maybe I forgot some Epic flashing routes.
The phone has EI22 baseband and I am looking to find the best g/f friendly rom (one where I can flash for her and have zero problems).
What do you think is the safest set up?
*Its been a while since I flashed on the Epic. I am on EI22 and I see EL30 is the newest build for GB. Do I need to use odin to get that, or can I just flash on top of EI22?
**I see FC09, is that the newest official?
Try cm7 or the peoples rom. The peoples is TW based it really is a matter of taste. I have my wife on CM7 which she loves she hates TW.

She prefers TW, and I was thinking the Peoples Rom. Where i get lost is all of the MTD, BML stuff. I dont remember having all of those options before.
What is the process to go to the Peoples from where I am? AOKP with EI22... I think EXT4 (is there a way to check?)

If you're on aokp you are on mtd... fc09 is the newest ota release... if she likes tw then clean gb el30 (she will be bugged by update message) or the peoples rom 2.2 (fc09) would be the best way to go...
Backup with Titanium Backup, download The People's ROM v2.2 MTD, wipe data, cache and Dalvik. Flash, choose to use or not use the Sprint Connections Optimizer, sign in to her Google account to sync contacts, restore her third party apps and only data she absolutely has to have...like Angry Birds high score or something...lol.

So far all issues were resolved with clean installs, V 6 Supercharger or turning off the Optimizer because of bad 4G due to Sprint. 3000 downloads strong, seems pretty solid to me but I may be biased.

She just gets nasty over some stupid crap sometimes. Plus, she travels a lot so I don't get much chance to work on the phone. Anyway, that was a year ago.
My lady likes to run whatever I am on. I find this useful for troubleshooting. If I can't recreate an issue on both, it's not a real issue. I made her sit on stock unrooted for a few days last month when she got a replacement phone from dropping it, and she couldn't wait to get back on an ICS rom. She made it through the random reboots on gb leaks, so anything out these days is easy for her to handle. It really depends on the individual. My techy ways have rubbed off on her over the years lol. She is smart enough to use her ipod (i know...) on wifi with a free messaging app to ask for help in the few situations that confuse her. She's a looker, does laundry, is a great mother, works, and cooks extremely well too! Needless to say we are getting married this July. I'm not sure exactly why I waited 14 years to ask her when I say it like that lol.

I cant agree with this strongly enough, though I may not have gone as far as saying no root.
Just remember, ANYTHING that goes wrong will be your fault, even if it has nothing to do with the phone itself (ie: tower down for upgrade, facebook update breaks the app, etc)

FF18 very .... uhh?

Am I the only one whom finds mostly all FF18 builds unresponsive at times? The touch keys don't work randomly... on the latest ota and the leak? Is this kernel related? I hope so.... Sorry to say this but I'm running my super nova rom and haven't had any problems what so ever. Nothing looked what you're describing at all. Any chance the phone is having a hardware factory issue since so many others have experienced the same thing?
No its definitely an ICS issue on certain devices. As it doesn't happen on Gingerbread roms based at all. Ive noticed certain users complain about the issue, maybe its different hardware models? Who said anything about insurance? I'm very good friends with the store manager. He always performs a device exchange as long as it hasnt had water damage. And no, I'm pretty sure the issues I'm having are real as pressing the power button and having the unlock screen process done but captive buttons not work for 5 seconds or more, isn't a bad flash. Even on shubs one click to FF18.
Btw check list done.... settings are always left stock. Phone seems okay unless I can surgicly open it to check on internals lol... ! Yes I'm okay myself.other than my messed up fist from a drunk fist fight.
I've had the same issue with most ICS E4GT roms, and doubt it is anything user related. Don't pay attention to the trolls. I've fully wiped my phone and it made no difference. Hopefully someone can figure it out. It's pretty annoying having to turn the screen on a off twice to get the capacitive buttons working.

You can if you use the latest agat kernel built from source but remember not all developers have built in the new safe kernel! So you would always have to odin the kernel if it isnt baked with the ROM.
For reference, here is the link to source built kernel.

Ok heres my input. I believe that its a combination of software and hardware. Remember response time of soft buttons depends on how stable the rom is and also whats running at the time they where pressed. Ok say like you have a few apps it the background running and you turn off your screen. Once the screen come on the buttons may take a second to come on because the screen has more of a priorty than the soft button. Its all in how you look at it. And with apps running it slows that process down greatly because a combination of the proccesor and ram being used. Remember not notice but our soft buttons have a back light and they are press sensitive. So with them working together plus all the other stuff i explained timing would be off. But think about it. Lol is it really a depressing ordeal lol. I actually witness it and continue on without even thinking about it. Sorry for rambling lol

We won't have too many ROM options, besides AOSP and TouchWiz, until CM10 is officially released. It's out for the international version, but only time will tell how long it takes to reach our version of the device.
If you want to take a giant risk, go ahead and flash ParanoidAndroid for the international version, but it'll probably hard-brick your device.

I agree it will probably make it non-functional, but I find it hard to believe it's something that restoring an original sprint partition wouldn't fix.

Maybe so, but I've heard stories of people hard-bricking their devices by flashing kernels made for different devices.
If anyone really wants this type of ROM, go to TMO GN2 forums and look at DaGR8s ROM. Or join #saurom on freenode. I asked if he could bring it over but he would rather have me maintain it but I know zero when it comes to modifying stock roms, smali, etc lol.

No offense, but I don't understand what you're asking. I say this because Android 4 is the same on phones and tablets. I have ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700T) and this phone, and both are running Android 4.1. The difference are more device specific about screen size and particular hardware.
The mods I've seen are more about squeezing more functionality out the device, such a WiFi tether and mutli-app. They don't bring a more tablet experience than what the device already is in my use thus far.
Youtube hybrid tablet mode on note2 or look up paranoid android. You'll see what I mean/layout

Your cruelty knows no bonds. Making me search, LOL. Took me a while to find something that showed it. Most just videos on found on Youtube left in the ROM(s) in phone phone mode. This one showed it best that I was able find first.
But yes, I get it now. The sad part, only a few apps I use really have tablet interfaces. I like a similar interface across devices if possible. Although, it would be nice if K9 had a tablet UI. But I digress....
Haha sorry.
Yea I meam to me with 5.5 inch screen its more tabletized to me so why not exploit it more. **** if you advertise it as a "phablet" then why not send it with the optionm?!
I keep trying

I like the idea of picking some apps to use in Tablet form. NFL Game Pass has a good tablet app; but I believe it's designed for 10" tablets, not the small ones such as Nexus 7. I like Chrome's interface on the tablet over the phone as well.
I have the ASUS Transformer Inifinity. Needless, some apps are interesting with their user interface.
Unfortunately, most apps on Android are still designed for the phone interface. As Android tablet get more popular, we'll see design interface incorporate the larger screens.
At the moment, I'm just happy to have a larger screen so I can see without having to zoom everything.
I hear ya but im constantly in settings and everywhere else hitting the back button a lot. Would be nice to have it all on 1 screen. Im gonna try and port PA. I would of bought or stayed with my evo. I want to see just how far I can take this lil big thing.
Was at wedding Saturday night and whipped it out & the table was in ahh at phone. Mostly iphoners. They were jaw dropped. Just wish I had hybrid mode to make them faint. Lol

I tried talking to the developer of PA, and all he said was to wait for CM10 to come out.

My coworker saw my GN2 and I heard a "GOD DAMN!!!!" Another coworker (Sprint GS3) and I like to tease another about his iPhone4 since he complains a lot about it.
Yea, the settings is a nicer setup on my tablet. Switching tasks is a lot faster too. I just hit one button instead of holding it down. But I like this phone's recent task list. It actually closes the programs. I really like the clear memory option too. Why they can't incorporate a clear cache, is beyond me, but something I would like in that menu area.
Im so impatient. I want to buy n7100 just to flash it. Lol but I guess I'll have too

Couldnt play vids but I wasnt impressed.
Yea switching tasks is becoming cumbersome especially when im not driving but yea I get looks and ahh's everytime it comes out. Was recently at an indoor waterpark resort in PA mts and there was starbucks in there. 1st time I paid the baristas where like, hell yea a screen I can read bar code. Couple workers few days later where like, ah your the guy with the note 2? Can we see it.. lol

I'm Rooting!

I can't take it anymore! I'm sick and tired of waiting for multi view update. This is absolutely ludicrous how we were the first US carrier with the Note 2 and the last with the update. So u know what? I rooted my phone today and loaded the Jedi Rom with multi view on it. At first I was one of those that wanted to keep everything stock, as I truly love this phone. It had everything I wanted except for the multi view. Im so glad I did this! Now I have multi view with all the apps. Awesome! This has truly opened up so many more possibilities. The only downfall at the moment is wifi calling. But I can live without.
So what say u dear fellow Note 2 owners? Are u guys tired of waiting or do u have extreme patience and are happy as Is?

I'm coming to same conclusion..will likely order by Thursday for Friday delivery & install Jedi ROM Saturday..
How much time should a noob set aside to: root, install Jedi X ROM & are you considering Perseus kernel for exfat?
I've got link instructions for root & Jedi X install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34900851&postcount=33 but what about installing Perseus kernel?
Probably would have bought the T-Mobile Note2 weeks ago if it had multi-view (but this ROM looks better than what T-Mobile will come up with)
-Thnx
Besides multi view what else did it get you? And is paper artist along with the other s-pen apps working? Other than music programs I didnt see anything built into either jedi that made it a must have. Did I miss something?

Tethering. Multi view is pretty important. Also debloated...which is nice. S-pen apps work too, which is very important.

Ive flashed roms since day one with this thing. Just root. Have an official stock back up and flash away. With the 7105 rom by cmnerd it has multiview and everything os fuly functional. Also aloy smoother I experienced lag with tmobiles stock firmware. Idk but if ur holding back I wouldnt. And the jedi roms are legit and smooth. Plus I got the aosp theme looking so fresh.

Im in the same boat I have N2 for about two weeks and im holding out for official ota. I tought ota wouldnt be that far away. I might just break today and do it as I usually do with all my previous phones, just tought N2 would be the exception

I really like the features of this device Id never seen or atleast known about and don't really want to lose those functionalities. So , my question is .
Do you lose Spen functionality and / or Spen apps such as snote , drawing ect , Sbeam or say ability to swipe your hand over the proximity sensor to see the time and date on a sleeping device? Or any other note / note 2 exclusive features in jedi x romS?

Had it since release but have been patiently waiting for the ota because I lost my imei on my S3 and am afraid the same thing will happen to my precious GN2.

I'm surprised you waited so long. I waited all of 1 day to root simply to make sure all the radios and speakers in the phone worked to be sure I didn't have to exchange my phone for another.

Jedi Master roms have wifi calling.
Jedi X roms have multi-view.

Woww

So I've been using this thing for a few days and all I can say is wow. I've never gone a day without rooting and flashing a Rom on any android device I've ever owned. I can't believe how smooth and amazing this thing is out of the box. Battery life is unbelievable. Ok so I wanted to ask is that even a point of flashing a Rom on right now? What are you guys currently running and had your battery life remained as good or is it worse/better?

Bunch of folks will tell you yes,
Me, as a seasoned Android user (4th phone) will say "not me".
I just can't see the point, at this point.
Maybe root for the sake of a rooted installation of Avast Anti Theft.
Maybe root and recovery to flash an OC kernel.
Personally I'm good just as I am.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda premium
Well with rooting u can install an international rom that has the multi window feature. Also the perseus kernel has the exploit fix and u can also di a hack for google wallet to work.

What's the deal with avast anti theft and root?
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
Personally, I don't feel the need to really make any modifications to the software on my Note II - it works well enough out of the box that I will more than likely leave it stock and unrooted. Battery life is amazing thus far, moderate usage today and barely put a so much as a dent in it (which is a big difference over my S III, which I could run down in a matter of a few hours depending on what I was doing).
I myself thought I was going to have an issue with touchwiz due to coming from various HTC devices as well as a few vanilla android handsets. However, this device has been amazing. I did root it as I have a few apps that need said access but as far as a custom rom, no need.

I've had my Note about 6 weeks now. This is the first time I've came to the Note2 forum. This device is nearly perfect, for me, out of the box. I haven't found anything, yet, to make me want to root.
Sent from my Note II loaded with awesome sauce!
I did to get multi window and use titanium backup. I tried clean rom jedi and jelly thunder which im on now. All three worked great without issues. I like jelly thunder now because of the skin it runs is nice on the eyes. S-pen note taking is the main reason I have the note 2 so all these 3 roms retain full usage. Im on AT&T and have not noticed any change in battery life between the 3 roms and stock...

With a rooted installation, GPS can be turned on remotely via sms or web portal for device location and you can protect the installation itself even in the event of a full wipe. Kinda. Just an extra layer of protection.

Typically ill root a device to
flash a version of Android that isn't currently offered directly by the OEM, or simply to overclock a slower device. I'm ecstatic over this device as it is - stock.
I don't need root or some half-baked ROM with bugs.
If it doesn't improve my "user experience" then I don't want it.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda premium
I love flashing new roms but honestly this is the first time I have been hesitant because of how good a device runs out of the box. I can't wait till we get a 4.2 update

My 4th android phone as well and I agree with OP, the phone is unbelievable and is the first phone where I felt, "should I even bother rooting?". I only rooted it for the option to freeze system apps, use my backup from TiBu, and change my font (I hate stock font..), Multiwindow is a nice feature but not a necessity. I do like having a lot less system apps though.
i agree ...this phone is very smooth ...i did a no flash count root with no custom recovery... only so that i could have google wallet!!!!
if i didnt want wallet so bad i would not have rooted!!

I unboxed mine and rooted immediately. Multi viewing is the bomb! I can watch YouTube and navigate at the same time in a split window. You gotta have it...root em baby!
