Hi,
Currently I have a ext3 partition but I really want to have an ext4 partition. How should I do this?
Like the same way I've make the ext3 partition?
And when I have the ext4 partition is it possible to remove the ext3?

Oh?! That's it?
But when I'm format my SD card the ext3 partition will always exist.. how can I remove it?
I don't know how did you do the ext3, but you can do all of the things you want in GParted. (adding, removing etc.)

Ok, thanks! Both of you ;-)
Just get Partition Magic for windows. Easy peasy.
Why would you want EXT4? I have EXT3 but I want to know more about EXT4, is it better? how?

[(KERNEL)] A dumb question about EXT4

[(KERNEL)] A dumb question about EXT4
a)Flashed CWM Kernel + EXT4 tools app. Converted system to EXT4.
b)Flashed Speedmod Kernel K15H. Convert RFS to EXT4 via recovery
c)Flashed Talon Dev 0.2.2. Automatic Convert system partition to EXT4.
1)Are there various type of EXT4?
2)Do I need to convert system into EXT4 each time I flashed a kernel?
3)Why each kernel could not recognize the system already EXT4 converted?
How do I verify the system is in EXT4? CWM EXT4 tool could not recognize ETX4 if you flashed with others kernel.
Can someone explain? many thanks
1) Ext4 or Ext4nj (nj stands for non-journalized), using Ext4nj is only for non critical data.
2) No, the new Kernel must try to know if you're already in Ext4, if it doesn't, it's stupid.
3) use the "mount" command in a terminal or via adb, if you see Ext4 in line with /system, /data, etc. etc., you're under Ext4 Lagfix.
No, there is no different kind of ext4. If you flashed stock rom with odin between each kernel transition, know that this reformat the file system to RFS. Ususally, i use chainfire ext4 tool to know if my FS is in ext4. Also, you should not haveto worry about changing FS to ext4 again after changing as you only change the kernel and not the FS. Next time can you post your question in question & answer sub-forum plz.

true that there is journalised and non-journalised, but both can be mount the same way and are seen the same way by the system.

Thanks man. I would strongly agree that each kernel should try to reconize the EXT4. Somehow, this not the case.

Hi. As i said. Once you flashed another kernel, chainfire ext4 would not able to identify wheather your system is in Ext4. I'm using custom rom not stock.
Just to add on, frequent converting from/to Ext4 would cause some app to be force close. You have to reinstall the apps. What the hack!

[Q] How can convect yyaffs2 to ext4?

i have use 4ext to partition the sdcard to ext4 and flash the rom.
After flash the rom, the 4ext still check my desire (system, date, cache) already in yaffs2 and the capacity still no more add by my ext4 partition.
Do i need to format the (system, date, cache) to ext4? how can i do it?
Please help.
Thanks!!!!!!
Not possible to convert the yaffs2 fs to ext on Desire - all 4EXT recovery can do is convert sd card ext.

Do you mean how do you make use of the Ext partition on your SD card? What Rom are you using? Some Roms you need to enable this separately, others have it built-in.

Yes, i'm useing Runnymede AIO V6.1.1 Special Edition [Beta].
Not flashed that Rom before. Have you followed the right instructions for the install? Although 4Ext seems to correctly partition, would recommend using Gparted as it's dedicated Linux partitioning tool.

If you have the stock HBOOT you cannot use the AD2SDX wich use the se-ext as internal memory (you need cm7r2 HBOOT); instead you get the standard a2sd wich move apks to sd-ext without you notice it.

[Q] ext4 What is it?!

I have been using a custom ROM for a while now and I have been seeing in the thread that many people are using ext4.
I have asked many times in the thread and recieved no reply.
So my question to you is what is "ext4" and what bennifit will it be to me as a Desire owner.
Thanks

1. Google is your friend
EXT4 is a file format used by Linux (Android = Linux). When threads talk about EXT4, they are referring to creating an EXT4 partition on your SD-Card e.g. have 14GB FAT32 and 1GB EXT4 (from 16GB SD-Card.. 1GB is always non-existent)
What having an EXT4 partition enables you to do, is to have Apps/Data2EXT scripts which move apps to the EXT partition, giving you a lot more internal space.

Moving some of the app data to the sd-card is different to having an EXT partition and A2SD.
If you activate A2SD, the system will install and store your apps on the EXT partition, and your internal memory will not be filled up, and will remain at xxxMB. Furthermore, with an EXT partition you can use D2EXT, which makes your phone use the EXT partition as the data partition, so if you have 1GB EXT4, your phone will see 1GB memory.
If you use the inbuilt "move to sdcard" function, it only moves some of the sd-card to the android-secure folder on your sd-card, however your internal memory is still used up.
In addition, moving apps to sd-ext partition doesn't break app widgets like the stock app2sd method that Gingerbread use.

Reason: With A2SD / DATA2SD / etc. Android still "thinks and tells" the Apps are still installed in the internal memory (at least this tells me my logic).

MatDrOid, since you are also on MW. How do I make use of my ext4 partition I created?
I am guessing there is a way to just move to the ext4 via a app?

if it's MW based on oxygen, instructions on how to enable ext4 partition are in the first post, no need to use an app.
No it's the cm version using s2e and I think it's working lol

backup your sd card 1st
then use only 4ext recovery (requires s-off to change recovery) or gparted to create your partition (step 5 here)

This app increase internal memort or just move apps to SD ?
To get it to work, you need to make sure your ROM has init.d support and ext2/3/4. Google for zip-init and use that to add init.d support, and partition your SD card. Then reflash int2ext and format your sd-ext.

It's a script that mounts ur sd card partition as primary partition...
1. Partition ur sd card
2. Then flash A2SD via any custom recovery
3. Format sd-ext via recovery..
Then reboot
Data2sd is in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31017929
