So i got some NFCtags from amazon, found ~$15 and got 10 plus a NFCkeychain!
Just some ideas for people and some settings i made for myself.
Work- where my mouse sits. (yes they work form under the table depending on thickness of wood)
functions are as follows.
I placed one on the underside of my work table by
-Enable wifi
-Set brightness to 50
-Disable blutetooth
-Enable auto-sync
-Set ringer type vibrate
-Speak text work mode.
Car
-Enable bluetooth
-Launch google play music
-Disable wifi
-Set ringer type normal
-Set brightness to 100
-Enable power saving
-Enable Driving mode
Home
-Set ringer type Normal
-Enable wifi
-Set brightness to 100
-Set Display Timeout 1 minute
Another awesome idea i had is on valentines, i will give my girlfriend a box with an NFC tag inside, she will touch it with her phone, it will play a song, and maybe say a message, then ill give her the gift i bought her.
I really think NFC will become alot more useful in the future, google wallet has saved my ass at gas stations on several occasions already (i forgot my wallet at home a couple times). I would recommend everyone pick up some NFC tags to play around with, and considering their cheap price (they can be found for as little as a bag of chips) its a great freature to take advantage of =P i got mines from tagsfordroid incase anyone was wondering. but tectiles, or any other nfc tags will have the same functionality.
cheers!
Bruno
Pretty awesome ideas man. Glad you made this. It could be very useful! I am gonna use the desk one.

hmmmm some great ideas here...
I'll add to the first post!
I am using the NFC Task Launcher, and have had nothing but a lot of fun playing with NFC.
I Got the one from Google, The Task Launcher Pack, it works just as well.
As far as settings, they are similar to what has been mention, Car (driving) and Home (battery and wifi)
Might have to give them a try:thumbup:

Yet some might say root or use diff launcher or..., I hope this might be considered in next ICS updates:
Launcher: ability to hide app icons in drawer if I want to.
Data usage: ability to prevent app from using wifi beside mobile data foreground & background if needed (firewall).
Gallery editor: frames effects.
Email (not Gmail): more refresh options such as every 2 hours & from time to time....

Only one atm : Reduce lag in scrolling on some occasions
1) Reboot option when holding the power on/off button
2) Easier way to mass text people
3) Ability mass select individual text messages (in each thread) and then delete them
4) Better stats on what is using the battery
5) When saving panoramic phots, do it quicker and don't delete the picture if the phone locks before the picture is saved
Increased video recording frame rate and enhanced stabilization, reboot option, faster unlock time from the lockscreen to the camera app, enhanced UI responsiveness, built in memo app and voice recorder app, photo editing app kinda like the one on the GS2 and battery saving tweaks

the gallery should be able to open jpg files that are in a .nomedia directory and go to previous or next pic like it where a normal picture...
this worked that way on old android version
since ICS if i open a picture in filemanager that is in a .nomedia directory, the galery does not known how to open it...
its ok that it is not shown in the gallery app by default, but if i open it from filemanager it should open ...
Mine would be sort the browser out :
Permanent desktop option ( like browser+ has)
Smoother scrolling
Rewrap text as an option
And i hate the way when tap in and then out it has rerender it , kida reminds me of checkers
Still think its the best browser iv used but fixing these is a must
I'd like to see a higher res and flash for the front camera.
Consistent ui!

I just want an update lol.
I would like.
*full manual camera setting ISO , shutter speed, manual focus.
*wakelock display in battery stats to show what apps are miss misbehaving so we can report them.
*fix the lag that came with 4.0.2
*fix the wifi drop outs.
*put the toggle wifi GPS ect in the drop down bar along with settings or make it customisable.
*customisable notifications like light flow app.
*fix the all alarm app, when you launch it just launch it straight to the set alarms not a date and time screen.
Everything else is sweet.

I ran into an issue recently while using spotify and navigation while driving.
I wanted to keep the screen on spotify but check the map a few times while not taking my eyes off of the road for any length of time.
Long pressing the home button and choosing between the running apps was a pain. I was looking for an app that would just toggle between two chosen apps via a gesture such as a left or right swipe.
An app called "switcher" seemed to be what I wanted but it's no where to be found.
Can some one help find switcher or point me to something that will fill the bill?
You might want to try SwipePad its something like what your looking for. I think it might help

Switching between two different apps will take more thought than I have time to provide, but with the info below, you should be on a good start.
In this example you would create a gesture to load a given app:
Create a profile based on an event; the even would be based on sensor; then you would select gesture or shake
NOTE: The Shake or Gesture will then have settings you play with to get it like you want
Then create a task based on App/Load App
The above would launch an app, or change to that app if running in background. Also, there is a function in the App Task to Load Last App. I suspect a different gesture for that would be used (in a new/different profile) which would then switch back to the previous app.
I haven't tested any of that, but I think the theory is sound.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for all the good suggestions; I tried Swipe Pad and it was very good but not what I was looking for. I'll take a look at the tasker thing (thanks very much for that)
In the mean time, I'm using "Car Home Ultra" that lets you assign "big buttons" to functions and I've just assigned an app switch and kill app function...it seems to be working.
Anyone havr some suggestions for some cool/useful apps that you use on a daily basis?
Poweramp Mp3 Player
Google Drive
Quickpic Photo Gallery
Solid Explorer for file exploring/managing.
Swipepad + recent apps add-on (paid)
Smart Screen Off - awesome if you have a wallet style or flip case cover
Screen Filter - used ever morning and every night
Any.do - very good reminder
Timesheet Free - awesome app for managing many jobs/projects including overtime, expenses and time of day related overtime (hourly rates)
messagease - the worlds fastest mobile keyboard! (80 words per minute!!!)
greader
Action list - for Note II users - it allows you to create a menu with upto four apps that pops-up when you take out the S-Pen
AntTek Explorer - Root/Simple Browser.
Battery Widget Reborn - Best battery management App I've ever used, a lot of customizable.
FoxFi - Mobile Hotspot software that's insanely simple to setup.
Titanium Backup/Carbon Backup - both great apps, Carbon doesn't backup settings but it's got a much easier interface to use
AirDroid - Connect your device over wifi and control it from a browser on any PC (text, file moves, full device management). (no software install needed on the PC)
for you, OP, I suggest Droid of the Day. then you can get new app suggestions every day. nice variety, and I've found quite a few keepers.

One of my favorite features is the screenshot feature, as long as it's connected it will let you screenshot things such as pulldowns and menus and lock screens that the native screenshot feature on the phone doesn't allow.

We all have em. Apps that we wouldn't want to part with ever. I love finding new apps that do crazier stuff. So what are some apps you can't live without?
I NEED pie controls. This dev made it work without it being be baked into the rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150 after having it on beans roms I couldn't live without it. You must be rooted though to use it.
If you aren't rooted, try Wave Launcher. It is the same thing as ISA (invisible swipe area) in pie controls. But I've never gotten ISA to work in pie. You just swipe from a set location to layout a list of your apps that you want. Works over any other app without needing root. Loved this until I got pie controls. Now I don't need it as much.
Package Tracker I use Pro edition. But i buy so much stuff & hate monitoring shipments. This does it all, it and can auto check at set frequencies for you. Hourly or every two. And you can sync it online. So if you use multiple devices all can share the same list just by one uploading it.
MSecure or Keepass - who wants to remember hundred of passwords. At work mine change every thirty days. With these, remember your One master password to get in, and the rest is stored in a secure database on the phone. Put in web logins. Insurance info. Whatever. I like MSecure better cause it can sync with Dropbox to save your encrypted file. But Keepass is free. I think both have pc apps the let you enter all info on that then import the datafile to the phone.
My fitness pal - great app for tracking calories and food intake
ES file Explorer everyone loves it.
Alarm clock Plus great alarm app. Hate losing my phone alarms everytime I reset. This has a backup function. Win!
Wifi Analyzer great app for finding wifi. Troubleshooting wifi problems. See what channels are being used the most. How good signals are, etc.

Velis Auto Brightness - Total control over automatic brightness. Set your own curve, speed of adjustment. Lots of presets that work very well.
Audiomanager Pro - Set audio volume presets and assign them to a schedule (ie: automatic mute at 9:30pm, preset for work, preset for after work, preset for weekend, etc)
Root Explorer - Still the best root access file manager around. Doesn't look like a 12 yr old designed it (cough, ES File Explorer, cough)
Airdroidhttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid - I transfer so much stuff back and forth between my phone and PC. This makes life much easier. No need to plug in. I can also do my messaging from my computer if my phone isn't nearby.

Depends on the device. Download the free version and try it. I paid for the full version just out of respect for the developer who bought a Verizon Galaxy S3 (he's in the UK I think), just so he could get it to work with Verizon and Samsung's crazy settings. He figured everything out and it was a must have app on my S3. On my HTC One, not so much because the LED can only be red or green which really limits the options. Different devices work differently so it's just one of those things you have to try out. A rooted device is obviously going to have more freedom though.
I'll check it out on the note 3

You could also use AppOps and cancel some of the permissions, that the program has, but personally I would consider it a malware and delete it ASAP altogether. It really makes me wonder what did they use so much data for, it couldn't be all advertisement?
Idk what was going on I left the house with the battery topped off.. Reboot and topped off to make sure it was really 100 and got to work and I was already at 94 % then 5 hrs later 50% which by then it should have been only 80-70% then I just started looking thru my settings and saw that, I wouldn't have thought that was with ads and I wouldn't have thought a flash would need anything past 0.1mb to use.. Just blew my mind

Hold your finger on the empty home screen, tap on Apps and Widgets, the tap on Widgets and look for it.
It is called Assistive Light.
Drag it to your screen and you have the flash light any time you need it by tapping it on or off. :good:

Works great, thanks.
I think I read something in the news, was it GSMArena?, about Flashlight I believe, that it was requesting permissions for things totally unrelated to the operation of the program, like contacts etc, that's when I downloaded AppOpp and started using it, even just seeing what permissions some of those programs request makes you wonder, what are doing behind the door. That's why I don't like Android that much, not easy to even see where the program is located.
I read a flashlight app has "backdoor".
Just add Assistant Light widget and call it a day.

Specifically, the app called Brightest Flashlight Free didn't have a backdoor, but rather was giving out user location along with a unique id for each device.
The Federal Trade Commission on Thursday issued its first enforcement action related to location-based technology, reaching a settlement with the maker of Brightest Flashlight Free for allegedly hiding the fact that it sold information about the location of its users and the unique string of numbers assigned to a device.

I also use the "Assistive Light" widget. Useful to have a light when in the dark.
But that still doesn't explain 800 odd MB of data used, as stated in OP post unless the program crashed and was sending garbage in the loop, or the info itself was incorrect, but battery usage would suggest something was going on. It could have been browser cache history, for all we know.
