I have S3 with a problem. Stock.
It doesn't have "settings" option anywhere. Also can't pull down notification bar.
I guess to solve it is get new software, how do I go about that?
I did try factory reset, didn't help.
Any help appreciated.

Settings is in your app drawer and in the pulldown menu (It can't be deleted so it's definately there).
To open the pulldown menu, swype down from the top.
To update the software, you need either Kies (pc) or in your Settings (OTA).
Is this a new S3? What version of android? If you place the phone in landscape (within an app or browser) can you swipe down? If you can, then you might have a digitizer issue. If you can't, then it's a software issue and a factory data reset might fix it.
setting is and will always be there
unless you hide it...
if you still can't, post a screenshot
in landscape it doesn't work either
not sure which version android it is, cant get to settings
factory reset did't help
I was thinking odin, which is better option odin or kies?
when i connect phone to pc, it connects as media device, can i still use odin or kies?

You can flash it back to stock using Odin and that might resolve your issue. Stock firmware can be located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625. There are some basic instructions there. If you are unsure about the process, there are multiple threads on xda about flashing back to stock. Remember to do a full wipe after flashing.

You're placing the phone in download mode first, correct? Try a different usb port on the computer and reinstall the s3 drivers
That worked, thanks a lot

We received our Samsung Galaxy II phones a few days ago.
My wife had a Swiftkey and Swiftkey X keyboard apps in her Amazon appstore account. She installed Swiftkey X, and she was presented with an "update" that showed Swiftkey (not the X; apparently this is an issue with Amazon appstore based on Swiftkey site). Thinking that it was an update to the Swiftkey X, she apparently applied it, and immediately there were number of FC notices (she remembers seeing TWLauncher among them) and a spontaneous reboot of the phone. Then, she couldn't get online either through WiFi or 4G. At that point she gave the phone to me to fix it
Comparing her phone side by side with mine it is very clear that there's an issue with network connectivity. While mine flies through the pages, market downloads, etc. either on WiFi or 4G, hers get stock for 3-5 seconds before opening pages or sometimes just displays a "webpage cannot be found" or "connection error".
I went ahead and did a factory restore, but that seems to only delete user account, personal files, etc. if I understand it correctly. Moreover, the issue is still there after the restore. So, is there a way to restore the system files to stock as well? Can it be done without rooting, or does it require loading a fresh ROM?
Sorry for the lengthy message and thanks in advance!

You need to either:
1. Root
2. Install CWM through ROM Manager
3. Flash this
Or:

2. Flash this

Thanks again for the replies. So, I'm going to have to root it and put a stock image back I gues... I was hoping that SII had a fail safe similar to Nook Color where you can easily go back to stock if something was not right.

Alright, I'm halfway through. The rooting process for the SII is little different than NC, but the principles are the same.
By the way, is it safe to assume that some conflict between SwiftKey and SwiftKey X caused the problem on her phone? The reason I ask is because I'd like to put SwiftKey X on my SII (it has multi-language support) and I dont want to deal with the same issue if it was the culprit.
I believe I did enough reading at this point
Since this doesn't involve rooting (now I understand it), I'd like to get an "OK" from the guru before proceeding with the following "as newbie as it gets" steps:
1. Install Odin (v1.85)
2. Install Kies for the recent GSII drivers
3. Make sure Windows recognizes the phone in ODIN (seeing <ID:0/004> Added!! in the message box)
4. Turn off the phone
5. Turn on the phone by holding both the Vol-up and Vol-down buttons and plug the USB cable in while still holding both buttons
6. Select volume up button to proceed to download mode
7. Start Odin
8. Check the PDA button in Odin and browse to “T989UVKID_HOME_SGH-T989user_CL594724_REV00.tar.md5” file
9. Click Start in Odin and let it flash
10. Once it completes and reboots…..
Is that it? At Step 10, it should boot into a 100% T-Mo stock, right? Just to be sure, I’ll perform a factory reset after that point and start all over with the user files, apps, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Sounds good. But if you look in the stickied threads top of this forum the drivers for our phone are posted. No need to install kies but that does work also

The "factory reset" you used IS the fail safe. The parts that "factory reset" doesn't remove is the part that won't be messed up unless you are rooted. So I don't even know how you touched /system etc without rooting...

The issue was created after installing a 3rd party keyboard and -by accident- applying an update that was supposed to be for a slightly different version, which resulted in numerous force closes and random reboots immediately. I might be wrong here, but that indicates that more than just the user files were affected, since deleting just user files via factory reset didn't help the network problem. However, flashing the stock image -without rooting- took care of the problem.
On my galaxy s3 1747 i get the above message. When i select yes the phone reboots to stock firmware.
Is there a way to fix this?

I do and thanks for the response.
Since trying the install a few times I have now lost root access. Now when I try to transfer files to my phone through USB so I can root it again it always times out.
Other than the above the phone is working.
What should I do?
I just tried a different usb cable and it worked. Phone is now rooted. I'll uninstall knox and try it again.

When I rooted my S3 i9300 I had similar problems with timing out, I tried one desktop PC and a laptop, with no luck. I finally dug out an old netbook which worked - so I guess it would be worth trying a different PC if you can?

Are you talking about in the recovery? if yes ignore it and choose no or get a better recovery like philz where it doesn't pester you about it.
Also this is in the wrong phone forum, this is the international version. Ill get a mod to shift it for you.

Hi,
To do a factory reset: Switch off the tablet.
Then power it up by pressing simultaneously and holding : Volume up + Home + Power
When in Recovery mode move the cursor with the volume key and execute with the power key.
Select Factory reset and execute it.

Hi,
OK, the first thing to know is which device you have: Sm-P600/601/605 ??
Then to know which ROM is installed on the tablet ?
If you can go to setting : then scroll down to "About the phone" you should see the version of the ROM.
With that you go to sammobile
You put your device type and you will get all the stock ROM's
You click on the one you want and on the next windows you will have the URL to download and the way to install it.
To be able to download the ROM you have to register on this site but it's free of charge !!

Its a SM-P600,
Kernel Version: 3.4.39-1691324
Build Number: JSS15J.P600XXXUAMI8_LLK
I tried that site but canceled it cause it said it will take 15h to download the firmware.
You can try from HERE
But I am not sure it will be any faster.
Those ROM's are quite big > 1.xx Gb so if your internet connection is slow it's take time.

One more question, I can´t seem to set some kind of password for the lockscreen since the lock screen option is gone in some way. It says something about Knox but what is that?
Can i add some other app that handles the lock screen?
About Knox: it's some kind of security introduced by Samsung some months ago, a real pain in the back..
Have a look HERE (for example) for more details.
Yes you can install applications w/o problem.
Knox will only get involved when you start playing with the ROM's, Bootloader etc ..
Hi
Hello guys, I have an Galaxy S6 Edge Demo version, I want to know if I change the motherboard with another with GSM function, it will work fine ?
The digital finger print doesn't work, I have to change the button or how can I fix this ?
And another thing, in the background of display, you can barely notice a text, this : Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, this thing is from display or motherboard ? Because I want to know, if I change the motherboard, it will dissapear that text ?
Thank you.
I would like to remove the starting screen ''Live demo unit'' on SM-T800X tablet to the stock one, and after flashing I have got the demo pieces of text in the bottom of the screen.
I tried to re-partition the install with ODIN and used a PIT file but no changes. Anybody can help with this problem please ? Is there any solution to change the demo unit to look as a stock SM-T800 ?
Also if there any solution to change KNOX value to 0 would be great.
Hi everyone. I'm stock, unrooted and running 5.0.1. I did a factory reset and just before the phone actually reset, the little android guy said performing system update. When the phone was restored, the Hotspot and tethering toggle under connections was gone. I chatted with both Sprint and Samsung about this and both were clueless. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know why or how to get the toggle back? Thanks in advance.
The first time I flashed Lollipop it wouldn't access any sd card. I searched for hours to find any kind of solution but nothing worked. I wiped everything. Data, System, Cache, everything (except my sd card) and flashed Lollipop again (from the same image) and now everything works perfectly. If you have crazy problems, a full wipe and reflash should fix it.

This is a fairly well known tool for all galaxy phones. It has an option to enable all toggles that are hidden by default:

Check unknown sources, download, install, run, scroll down, 1 tap.

Im wondering if the OTA and factory reset made the toggle go away?

Right..

BUT, the OP said that there was a 'toggle' in the pull down notification bar.
I cant remember seeing one there, untill I MSL'ed the hotspot turned on. Thats when I started to notice..

My apologies. I've been calling it a toggle. The "setting" for hotspot and tether under "settings" is what disappeared. So without it I couldn't even get to the actual toggle that turns the hotspot on. Under connections, it just went Bluetooth>Airplane Mode. But the setting was there before the factory reset.
Did anybody figure why the settings is gone. I did the same the same thing for my mom phone hot spot there. I search for hot spot on mine and it can't be found. I did the update and the msl hack and nothing.

I would suggest to do a factory reset in recovery to try and get it back.
And if that doest work, then I suggest to Odin flash the BOB7 and see if it comes back without an additional factory reset.

The OTA made it disappear, and the factory reset put it back. On my mom phone no affect.
This app shows that it is using 17% of my battery. I have tried freezing, uninstalling, and denying root access to it, but still shows up as taking that much battery. Anyone know how to stop it from draining battery?
I was rooted on 5.0.1 using pingpong root, but don't recall that app draining any battery.
That's tmobile's root checking app, I think the only way to stop it is to disable or uninstall all the tmobile bloat, all of it.
Maybe then it will go away.
Also report and diagnostic info needs to be turned off in settings / privacy and safty.

So you're not rooted and you're having this issue? That's strange, yeah I really don't know how to get rid of it in that case. Maybe you should try downloading samsung smart switch software to your PC and use it to reset your phone, hopefully fixing the issue. Did you try that yet?
Unrooting as far as I know can't be done without doing a factory reset or flashing the stock factory image through Odin, so it's better to just try using smartswitch first. Just make sure to back up all of your data on your PC first, because I think smart switch may wipe your storage.

Yeah try using smart switch. It will take longer but it is more recommended. Also, I recommend you backup any files you have on your phone before using smartswitch because I don't remember if it wipes your storage or not.

Just make sure to back up all of your data on your PC first, because I think smart switch may wipe your storage.

ok, i root to unlock, then i reinstall stock firmware throw odin, reading what you say am still root, smart switch fails (cause i am root ?), how can i unroot safe ?, cause smart switch fails
I'm a little confused. So you tried smart switch and it failed? That means that you either are rooted now or were rooted at some point. If smart switch fails then the only other way is to Odin the stock firmware which will factory reset and unroot your phone. If you're familiar with Odin just download the stock tar file from the first page in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3144105
First boot into recovery pressing volume up+home+power and do a wipe data factory reset from there (assuming you have stock recovery). Then boot into download mode pressing vol down+home+power while phone is off and Flash stock through Odin and you will be factory reset and unrooted for sure as long as your device is a T-Mobile s6 edge 925T model. That should make your com.tmobile.pr.adapt battery drain go away as well.
Keep in mind that the tar file in the link is the stock 5.1.1 firmware so it will update you to 5.1.1 if you weren't already. Also this will wipe your data for sure so back that up to your PC before you do anything.
ok, i change computer, and smart switch works, how ever com.tmobile.pr.adapt still there :/
Hmm I'm really not sure after that honestly, I thought that would fix it for you. I've only had the com.tmobile issue while being rooted so I really don't know how to get rid of it without root and using titanium. Maybe someone else can weigh in and offer some advice..
TB only works to delete /remove if your rooted.
Pp.
ok, i fix it (i guess), first i reinstall firmware throw smart switch (fails on windows, so i use my mac), then i install Package Disabler (play store), and i choose all tmobile apps, including com.tmobile.pr.adapt, all with out being root, at the moment my battery improves a lot, 98% baterry on standy after 2 hours (1 % per hour), and before, like 10% per hour
