Battery Drain WLAN_wake + Netbios - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So when i'm connected to wifi I get a lot of battery drain (note this is on my university's wifi) so when I installed BBS to figure out what was the problem I would get a lot of wlan_wakelocks and wlan_rx_wake. So I installed network log and took a log of all the traffic when my phone was sleeping and got a huge amount of packets from netbios. I have looked at what that is and I know you can disable it from windows but I obviously can't tell the whole university to turn it off. Is there a way to block my phone from receiving all the packets and causing my phone to not go into deep sleep?

You can go to wifi and tell it to never sleep when connected. But that's not going to solve the issue with your highly protected and controlled wifi at your school. Best option is to shut wifi off or all data if you're not going to use the Web. If battery saving is what your looking for.

Sorry for posting in the wrong section. Okay so there would be no way to like disable local network communications but still connect to the internet? I get lots of emails that need quick responses.
If not I guess I'll suck it up

Turning off background data??

Turning off background data? Is it good to keep off for battery? I know if its off I can't use market until I turn it back on, but will every else function? Please give pros and cons thanks.

Background data is needed if you use any widget with updates also. So if you use sayyyy the weather widgets it won't sync, same with email. As far as battery life it will not make too much difference. Most items you use this for are able to be customized to an extended time.
Go in accounts and sync and adjust them. I don't use any facebook twitter or news feeds so I just turn the sync off. It will still update when you open the app.
If you want to save battery life then I suggest turning off Data when you aren't using it. Calls and texts don't use 3/4g so leaving it on only causes the battery to drain because it constantly searches for a signal. Turn data off and hook up to wifi whenever available you'll notice a HUGE difference.

Thanks man, so if I'm home on wifi with data off will I still get calls and text or no? Cause I use my phone for business and can't miss calls.

Mobile data has nothing to do with calls or text. It is strictly for internet, market, widgets ect... Today or tonight before bed. Disable data, wifi and gps and leave it unplugged. You'll be amazed at the 5-7% difference. Unless of course you have a wake issue lol.
When I worked at my last job I had no real time to sit on my phone so I walked around with data and gps off unless I needed them and no matter what Rom I flashed I got great battery life.
Edit:
If you get emails for work though remember they won't go through. Neither will MMS.

Wifi Still Scans Even when Connected?

Does anyone know why wifi has the need to continually scan even though I am already connected to a network. When in wifi settings it says Wi-Fi networks then *scanning*. Any way to disable this, trying to save a little battery life.
Seems like a SamSung phone thing. Mine has done that since day one.
It only scans when you access that function. As someone posted a while back, it's sort of like the refrigerator light coming on when you open the door...

[Q] Issue with tasker/wifi

So I have it set up to check for the cell tower...and turn my wifi on and if I'm at home change the lock screen off/on
I'm having an issue where the wifi keeps turning off....and I don't know if its a issue with the gs2 and ill have to set it different...or an issue with my wifi or an issue with cm9??
To test to make sure it was not a connection issue with cell tower or tasker. I set it all day today to instead of turning on wifi to turn on Bluetooth when I'm connected to the same towers..and if my Bluetooth connected to my home computer to change the lock screen and didn't have any problems with it.
What can I use to monitor what happens that causes my wifi to turn off?
Tasker. I'm not sure why but I tried a similar setup after turning wifi on or off a few times it gets buggy.

Incase you still want to set it up like that its a no brainer but it took me a few days to think pf it and then I slapped my forehead in a "duh" type manor... I set up a profile so the cell towers by my house turn it on... Then I set up a profile pasted the same towers clicked to invert it.. So if its on any towers besides the ones by my house.. Had it turn them off.

How has this worked for you? I was experiencing this issue as well and have just implemented this new setup. I was wondering if it was working out for you since you made the change or if I needed to keep searching.

Wi-Fi Not shutting off and keeping phone awake?

Despite checking off Never, my phone is keeping Wi-Fi active and the phone isn't sleeping. Is there a way to fix this glitch? Also despite having an airave at home, my device shows constantly under the battery setting that i have no mobile signal. This is possibly making the phone search for signal, and explains why it often find a weird roaming signal. Anyone know any fixes?

Yep, what this guy said.
It was bugging me for a while too, not sure if its a feature of 4.1.x Android, but my understanding is if the device senses a Wi-Fi connection it turns on the radio and might ask you to try to configure. At the office, while driving, etc etc.

Ive disabled it countless times... it turns itself back on. There are other tiny little hickups Im having. The first device was flawless until an App Installation went corrupt and ruined it... Now I actually have a minor dud. Gotta try for "third times a charm"...

I just noticed that too. It does, or seems to want to turn itself back on. Pretty lame of Sprint to do this if you ask me.

It is a feature of the OTA Samung update that put your device to LJC .. After you installed the update whether it was Automatic over the air or even manually once you device said Update installation successful then a box was up that you had to hit "Ok" and it was the box that read about the new Sprint Optimization option.
So, if you have the wifi on in the house it still causes a problem? Or is this an issue when you are out and have the wifi off, and it still searches for wifi location no matter what killing the battery?

[Q] Endless scanning wifi and other wifi issues

Does anyone else have there phone continuously scanning wifi, once every 5 seconds or so, even when connected? Just go into wifi settings and see if it is scanning often. Additionally i get a lot of "Connected to abc network" messages in other applications when i thought my connection was established already long ago. And often find that even though im connected it is not passing data. I get ping times in the 200 + range to yahoo.com when a computer on the same network gets 50ms ping times. The wifi is the only issue i have with the phone, but my old S3 did not act this way and i want to know what everyone else is seeing, so i can send it back or get it fixed.
Thank you!
Check in your settings menu.
Settings>Mobile networks>connections optimizer.
Make sure thats unchecked

yeah it is turned off and the wifi power saving mode is off too *#0011# menu one. Same deal though...
Are you rooted? Maybe fixing permissions in recovery would help? Pretty sure it did for me.
I recently have been having this issue. 4.1.2 LJC trying to figure it out.. Reboots seen to temp fix it.. Just tried fix permissions so I had to reboot but will chime back in if it completely is fixed

How would fixing permissions, fix wifi scanning?
Couldn't tell you it just did. Resetting my phone and router didn't do it.
One solid day after fixing permissions seems to have fixed it Lol. Did you happen to flash some morphology? Just asking

Another option would be to set up profiles. And disable wifi all together in the profile you use when your out and about. And enable it in the profile you use at home with your wifi. And then just switch between the profiles.
