Since some days, I have a problem with my Galaxy Nexus (GSM).
While using it the Screen turns full brightness for a fraction of a second and then turn black. The software still runs, and i can use the touchscreen aswell as the buttons. (sound still plays and so on). But the screen stays black... I have to remove the battery to reboot the device to get it working again...
The thing happens randomly, sometimes while navigating with google maps, sometimes while playing angry birds...
I have the original 4.2.1. image (but rooted).
Does anyone else face the same problem / know what to do?
I found two guys on a german forum that have the same problem, but the thread is a littlebit old and they did not figure out what caused it / haven´t found a solution.

Hey XDA community!
First of all: sorry for my bad english, i am just a regular HD2 owner from Eastern Europe.
Almost everyone who tried a cooked android experienced the Sod (Screen of death) issue. I read a hundred topic, comment and idea to solve this annoying problem, but none of those was really useful.
I guess i found a temporaly fix for that.
I noticed the main issue is the Android lock screen. So i started searching some widget to disable it. And it worked! So download the "Screen off" application from the market and disable the lock screen with it.
Et voilá: the SOD's gone.
I don't now why but it's working. Maybe it was not a g-sensor who caused the SOD.
Could you share the name of the developer, there are at least 5 apps with screen off in their name...
Thank you
Deckoff: I had the same question and the one I tried was by techvision systems.
It doesn't actually seem to put the phone in standby, but rather lowers the back light to 0, which is why there is no wake up delay or in the op's case no SOD. The back light never goes
off and you have no lock screen. Wake up is instant though.
I think perhaps this should be moved to Android Q&A
Hi guys I'm a new registered user, but an old follower. I'm here for a strange problem of my GN. In practice, when I open settings, play store, the browser, a strange thing happens: in pictures of gray, blue, white colours, appears in the background a picture of a conversation WhatsApp with the keyboard open (I came to this conclusion after 34503430 observations and it I'm 100% sure it is an old screenshoot, among other things deleted from WhatsApp). So i have done full wipes and also a super wipe and installed other roms but the problem persists. An other strange thing is that when i do a screenshoot the problem in the .png image doesn't appear. So i have taken some pictures with my S3 for showing you the problem. I don't think that could be an hardware issue, because the phone is very fast and smooth, the resolution and the colours are very amazing and all works perfectly. For me there is a partition of this file in the system files. So what could i do?
Thank you for reading and for your time, i've search but no info about that, thank you.

I'm triing to restart my phone from the original version and then i'll reinstall all. But if it will not work what could i do?
That's called a screen burn-in.
Do not use your phone all the time at maximum brightness. To fix this issue, try to put your phone for like 20seconds on a 100% white image covering the entire screen (including the navigation bar). It helped to remove my screen burn-in's
Although I never had the problem that my KEYBOARD O___O got burned in but I had it with the navigation bar but I fixed it very easily with someone's app (don't remember it's name but a user on XDA on the Galaxy Nexus forum posted it to fix the screen issue)

initially thank you for reply. So i'm reinstalling all the system now. The problem is not solved. Now i try your method. I must only set a 100 white image for 20 minutes at 100% of luminosity at full screen? i hope to resolve, many thanks for now.
I'm using tools for remove this problem, so what's the best for you?
Hi Guys!
I started to experiencing strange behaviours and freezes on my galaxy nexus in the last two months but its just worse and worse. This is why I'd like to ask, maybe someone already having same problems... The first strange thing happened during I used a web browser (boat browser) some part of the web content was blurry or vertically / horizontally stretched. The degree of stretching was depending on the scrolling or/and zooming. So its something if we divide the screen to (approx) 5x10 square - like mosaic- and the content of some squares was stretched but there is also the content of the webpage just not on the right place/size.. So i can't use the browser like this, after a minute or two its typically closed without any error message, I just got back the launcher... I did not care with this problem because it was only with heavy websites.. -Was look like the phone has not enough memory- But Unfortunately later my phone started to crash very randomly, mostly durring browse.. but somtimes just when i turn on the screen to watch the time, or started my mailbox. The freezes always the same: For approx 10 sec the phone stops not react to anything on the touchscreen and not the hw buttons. after this 10 sec the screen becomes lighter (ithink like maximum brightness) and few horizontal line appearing on the screen. If i wait more 30 sec the brightness level starts to fade except the horisontal line on the screen... As the screen fedes into dark (like brightnes slevel is 1-2%) always became blurry and hardly lost the saturation. I always have to take down the battery.. Wait with it few sec, put back, and reboot the phone... If I dont wait, typically the boot sequence also freezes on the same way (during the logo animation)... When the phone boots up usually works one day long... but maybe just few hour until the next freeze... awkward thing, my phone is already rooted so i dont think i have any guarantee...
Important parameters:
The problem started with android version: 4.2 but 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 the same.
I have: GSM MODEL (YAKJU-MAGURO)
The phone one year old, I never tried to overclock!!!
After I update to 4.2 I needed to use SuperSu because the old superuser no longer worked.
I was thinking on its some problem with supersu? but actually apps freezes on the phone that never needed any root access..
I already tried:
Format the cache
wipe dalvik cache/battery stats
Fix permissions
uninstall and reinstall SuperSu
Now I ran out from ideas. I affraid its a hw problem maybe with the RAM.. I open to try any idea
Thank you in advance

Hi Everyone,
I sometimes have this issue, I don´t know if it´s a hardware or software problem, as you can see in the picture (on top to the left) seems like pixels die for a short period of time.
It happened before with ICS, but now with JB it happens more often. It only goes with a reboot or sometimes it just goes away.
Please, let me know if there´s anything I can do about it.
Regards.
FA
If these were dead pixels they wouldn't show on a screenshot.
Can't help you any further but it's definitely not your screen.
Looks like one of those Small Apps automagically launching, freezing and staying on top. Do you have any unusual apps installed?
It's weird, sometimes happens with games, with a phone call, camera, etc... I haven't identified any particular app that causes this.
I have tried uninstalling some apps that show notifications on that area but it doesn't work.
You can be sure those aren't bad pixels though.
If it's happening often and you can't get rid of it, just create a backup and re-flash the phone
I just realized that it's a messy app: SwypePad
As soon as I stopped it, this problem is gone.
Thanks for your comments.
Hey all,
So I'm posting this thread regarding a couple pretty weird glitches and bugs occurring on my G3, 3 specific ones.
The first: (Probably the least serious but still REALLY annoying) At EXACTLY 12:00AM every night no matter what timezone I set the phone to (I'm in AU on the AEST GMT+10 timezone but it does this at the same time on any timezone) the phone will switch it's WiFi off automatically without warning, reason or explanation. It just goes off and then I have to manually turn it back on. Sure I could use an app such as Tasker or AutomateIt to turn it back on but I don't see why this is occurring in the first place?
The second issue (Most recent): Lately after updating to the V20E firmware for my D855 I've noticed that a graphical glitch (Specifically related to the colour Blue) occurs when there are fast moving elements on my phone's screen (Such as when I move a chat head around on my phone from Messenger, or when I'm scrolling Facebook or my App Drawer fast, there's just a blue box around whatever object/s appear to be moving on my phone's screen. I've not dropped the phone at all, and it has only been present since updating from the V20D ROM. Not sure what could be causing it.
The third and by far the MOST ANNOYING of the issues I'm having, is that for no apparent reason, whenever I am listening to Music with the stock Music player, and I lock the screen (The screen goes off) about 5 seconds later weird stuff starts to happen..
The song will pause, play or even stop completely, seemingly on its own. The "phone" will change songs, artists and sometimes complete albums and playlists completely by itself, with me doing nothing but staring at the lock screen (It keeps doing it until I re-enter the Music app, then when I lock the phone the whole cycle just repeats itself.)
I've done some looking around and careful observations on the phone itself, and it seems that before the weird stuff starts happening to my music, the phone opens Voice Mate by itself, and then if I'm not present, it apparently closes it and then that's when the stuff happens. I've tried everything I can on a non-rooted phone to stop this. I've tried re-installing the Music app, Uninstalling all updates to the Voice Mate and it's packages to the factory version, force-stopping Voice Mate, everything and no matter what I do the phone still opens Voice Mate and the weird stuff starts happening (It's like it's taking commands from Voice Mate to do something but I'm not even doing anything ) It's been doing this since I got my phone when it came with Android KitKat 4.4 (I was on the D10M ROM until I moved to the D20D Android L ROM) and I moved ROMs doing a completely fresh start ( I factory wiped the phone and then upgraded via a CSE flash and put all my stuff back on it manually) and I would've thought a completely fresh start would have fixed it but apparently not... Either it's a bug that's been present for a while, or it's something deeper than the ROM.
So yeah some pretty weird issues, if someone knows what could be causing them, please let me know, especially if you know a way to solve them.
Cheers guys.
I'm having a very similar problem with regards to #1 but it's doing it with Bluetooth for me!
At midnight on the dot, it will disconnect my connected Bluetooth devices. It doesn't shut Bluetooth off, it just drops the connection. I posted about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/help/bluetooth-disconnects-midnight-t2973187
