Hey all,
Long time lurker, first time poster...
Up until recently I've spent my phone hacking and info gathering time mostly on Howard forums as they have a little more info on my current implement of mass distraction which is not an HTC.
I am currently waiting to receive my shiny new HTC Tilt II though. It should be here by Thursday per the FedEx tracking on it.
Anyways,
I know there a lot of these out there already and I see a lot of info here, but nothing specific to what I'm looking for.
Basically, I would like to know what you all are doing with your Tilt II's.
What apps are necessities.
What will I need to fix out of the box?
I plan to eventually throw a cooked ROM on as I am currently using a 6.5.1 ROM on my Samsung Epix. No Touch Flo or Manilla though. I was running TF2 and Manilla 2.0 on a stock att 6.1 ROM for a while, but now that I have the Rhodium on the way, I took the plunge and flashed it.
So back to the Tilt II...I plan to eventually flash it, but will keep the stock ROM at least for the first few weeks to get acquainted.
So knowing that, what will I want to remove and could you possibly point me to buried posts telling how?
I've seen posts saying this phone is already app unlocked natively and then I've seen other posts stating the opposite. Will I need to app unlock the Tilt II and if so, is there a cab and where can I get it?
I saw a list of apps for the Rhodium and dug that post. Anyone have any opinions on what has worked best on the this phone?
I think those are all my questions for now...having not even played with the phone yet except for in an att store for all of about 10 minutes. I'm sure I'll have more once its in my hands.
Thanks all in advance for any answers.
I just recently returned the Pure and switched to a Tilt2
Compared to the Pure, the Tilt2 feels so much bigger and heavier, and has a better build quality in my opinion (the Pure feels like cheap plastic...:/)
Back to the topic...I flashed a custom rom within the first 3 minutes receiving the phone...but from the experience from the Pure, nothing is worth keeping on the AT&T stock rom unless you really need their apps.
If you do plan to flash to a custom rom, make sure to find the tilt2 keyboard fix (should be pretty easy to find). Some cooked roms are cooked for the Tilt2 though, for example the Fusion by Atom
Other than that it really depends on what you need
Yeah...I was torn between the two until I walked into the store and looked at them. As soon as I saw the Tilt II, I had no desire for the Pure. How can you deny all that screen real estate??? I mean, its basically a UMD with a phone built in! I think the only thing that could have made this a better phone would have been a 1gig snapdragon processor.
Thanks for pointing me to Atom for a Tilt II specific ROM. Any one recommend any other Tilt II specific ROMS?

I don't mean to be rude, but I think the man had some good advice. There are a lot of things that were not right with this phone out of the box, a couple tweaks and it runs great.
Here is a link to official VZW 6.5:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=91940
About the early upgrades, I've heard of it happening, especially if you can provide real examples of the phone not functioning regularly. It will require persistence.

I think your last statement sums up how you feel, and from reading your previous posts as well, have felt about learning to use the phone.
Early upgrades are rare on verizon. The best bet would be opening a case at a verizon store with the problems you are experiencing and to go back to the same store multiple times with the same problem. If you are really interested in staying w/ VZW I would suggest waiting until the 25th to use the upgrade (since that is when the HTC Incredible is coming out). Also, a couple years back they gave me the 1 year upgrade price when my treo started giving me problems, so it definitely is possible to get something out of them.
Perfect, that's what I needed to know. Thanks
So after many hours of trying to fix my HTC Tilt 2 i gave up and decided to try and return it to AT&T to exchange it for something else. So thanks everyone for your help but i will now be moving over to the iPhone site as i got a iPhone 4

WoohooX2 Jeepin! sounds like good news for you! I've had good experiences with AT&T too regarding Tilt 2 replacments, etc. The last one I got worked great but now is on life support. It died on me a few days ago and i hve no idea what brought it back. I am trying to wait till AT&T roll out their Q1 phones (why do att not like phones with full keyboards?) and want to stay with Windows MObile, but looks like i will have to go Android (dont like windows 7) and hope to get a phone with similar features as the Tilt 2. This was my buddy, i hate to see it die.
i havent seen any threads posted or anything here whats going on? did u sprint guys pass on the arrive or something?
I will probably get one off contract this week. Not a fan of the form factor, but I need to replace my Diamond ASAP.
Not on Sprint.
I ordered. Looking at other forums it appears that instore stock at most stores was very limited. No best Buys or Radio Shacks carried it. Amazon and Wirefly had it cheaper, but it wont be here until wednesday.
I got one on Sat 3/20, pretty neat so far. I catch myself using my old WebOS gestures sometimes.
I got one today (3/21) Had carried an EVO since day one. still have both. so far so good. the biggest reason Im most likely gonna keep the arrive is the zune player and zune pass.
I posted this review on sprintusers.com:
I came from the Hero running the latest official ROM (Android 2.1 I believe). I've actually extensively played around with WP7 prior to this so I'm very familiar with the OS. IMO there is no comparison between the two devices. It had gotten to the point where I didn't use my Hero for anything other than phone calls and SMS becaues it was so slow. And it wasn't as if I had a bunch of stuff loaded onto it. Even after hard-resetting and only loading absolute essentials (such as Exchange data) it was still SLOOOOW. (lags to switch between screens, pull up menus, open SMS, etc.)
The Arrive on the other hand is lightning quick for the things I want it to do. It loads apps very quickly and never seems to bog down. I've managed to load two exchange accounts as well as several GB of music and videos, sync with FB, etc., and it's still fast. Fast to make phone calls, fast to SMS, fast to load apps. As I said, I have extensively played around with WP7 (was able to borrow a friend's HD7 for several days) so none of this is a suprise to me. Software-wise it delivers exactly as I thought it would.
Comparing the hardware to the HD7 has been interesting. I thought I would find the screen too small on the Arrive but it actually seems to be ok. Definitely smaller than the HD7 (obviously) but not so small as to be a deal-breaker. The biggest surprise has been the quality of the screens between the two. The HD7 colors are very washed out and the screen in general is kind of "meh". The Arrive screen though, really POPS. Colors are nice and saturated and the screen in general seems sharper. My friend who owns the HD7 agreed during a side-by-side comparison. As far as weight, it is noticeably heavier than the HD7. However I think the Arrive feels higher-end than the HD7, even though there is a lot of plastic in both. I can't put my finger on it-- maybe because it's more dense, i.e. more mass in a smaller package, it just seems more substantial.
The keyboard is a pleasure to use-- I have not had a physical keyboard since my HTC Apache back in '06 (!) and I realize now what I have been missing. Very easy to type, intuitive key placement, and good tactile feedback.
All in all I'm very satisfied with the phone. The limitations of the OS have been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere, but as long as you are ok with those limitations you won't be disappointed.

my friend is picking his up today from wirefly

Haha. Im assuming your right
Well the Arrive/7 Pro has it's own Forum section at the verrrrrry bottom of XDA. Most of the posts are there.
I bought one for myself and one for my wife. I am really digging it, there are obviously some things that is missing, but the overall responsiveness and "just works" is great.
i just got mine and i've been trying to activate it for a while..being stubborn...

If it won't connect to sprint network/activate, go into your settings-->Cellular--> Change Network Profile/Update PRL.
I had to this on mine after the Sprint store activated it because it would not make phone calls/connect to the internet. My wife who got her activated at the same time by the same person did not have to do this.

yeah, that worked. i stumbled upon that a little after posting my last comment and 10 seconds after stumbling upon it, the person from sprint told me to do it.
All I can say about this phone is that this sht is immaculate!
Got mine sat. And I love it, was coming from the evo . I hate the evo and android but I do miss some of it's features! Don't think I'll look back
I pre-ordered mine and picked it up Sunday. I think the thing is very nice. I came from a HTC Hero. What surprised me is the thickness is only sightly more than the hero. It's noticeable but just slightly.
There are a few quirks to get used to, especially multitasking limitations. But the speed, flow and intuitive interface make up for that. Thinking about it, even though my rooted Hero did multitasking, the performance was so bad, it ruined the experience (same goes for my wife's Evo).
I still find myself using the soft keyboard -- but for the long/detailed email composing, you cannot beat having a physical keyboard (screen real estate).

I had two on pre-order. Picked them up on Sun. afternoon (3/20).
I entered my Live ID and had contacts, Xbox, ZunePass configured by the time I hit the parking lot. When I got in the car I added my main Hotmail account, and when I got home I configured it for Exchange. The rest was spent exploring apps (no, Steve Jobs, NOT "apples").
The wife was another story, she's spent a few days on the migration - mostly because she hadn't synced her phone with Outlook in the 30 days prior, she wanted to migrate her PST to another machine, and she hadn't properly configured Outlook to sync with Windows Live. (Edit: Here's the Live support forum thread on that issue)
She's getting where she needs to be - but I think migrating her old Calendar items are giving her problems. She's posted in the Windows Live support forums and I'll try to post a link to the issue later. It's not really a WP7 issue - just a sync issue she's having between Outlook and Hotmail Calendar.
So I guess how smooth it goes depends on how much you embrace the Windows Live "cloud" concept. In my case, I've never had an easier more care-free migration to a new phone. The wife's experience has been frustrating, but mostly because she's having to learn a lot of new things at once and of course she's in a big hurry. Procrastinators of the world unite... tomorrow - right?
Hi there. I have an iPhone 5 that just broke, and need a phone to get me through the next six months. My wife has an Incredible sitting in her nightstand. I'm hoping I might be able to use this to get me through the next six months. My questions: is there a specific custom ROM you guys would recommend? I just want decent battery life to get me through the day, and plan to use basic internet searching, but not much beyond that. Is this even a usable phone in 2014, or would I be better off selling my body on the street corner for a newer device?
Thanks much!

Hahaha! No need to take it to the streets my friend! My contract with sprint just ran out and I decided that I'm done with contracts for now so I was in the same boat. I wanted to keep my number too though and like you I have a dinc I've been using as a "mini tablet" since I left Verizon, so my quickest/easiest option was to activate my dinc on straight talk and have my number ported to it. Works great! I've been using the infected 4.2.2 Rom with lightning launcher, tweeked a few settings, and I get around 2 days use on a full charge with light to moderate use. It's fine for me until I figure out what to do next, wether I flash my EVO 3d or get something new.
Just wondering!

Hey guys! Awesome to see the Dinc's are still out there and holding up and being used. I'm using mine just for fun recently for music and things and im wondering.if you guys could give me some pointers in the right direction on how to root this thing. I rooted it way back in the day but i think i claimed insurance or some kind of weird story i dont remember to where I have one now that isnt rooted and i wand to root it to check out the roms that are out there now, despite them being outdated. One click or manual is fine, i can figure out either but im gonna keep looking here on XDA. Just seeing if you could help me out on short notice without having to search and everything.
Thanks!
Just picked mine back up after so long feels so small in my hands now screen seems smaller too. It has infected 4.2.2 on it I'm going to try loading the 4.4.3 it will be running something further than my note 3 or my gs3 is running.
