About battery life and performance on Xperia Arc. - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I've tried a tons of ROMs of ICS and JB. A couple weeks ago I tested a GB one, and like it too much, cause there's an excellent battery drain and performance is just perfect, no lag, never. Including with games like Modern Warfare 4, Dead Trigger (with full textures and not overclocked with conservative governor in noop), etc.
The thing here is that GB doesn't support a couple of apps that are only available on ICS+, and I'm thinking onto changing my ROM.
What ROM you recommend? You know, overall speed, great gaming, and a great battery life.
Thanks.

Read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097137. All roms are good depends on ur choice and preferences. So I think there is no recommendation from my side coz it depends on you what to chose. And its absolutely common sense that u have to sacrifice battery life if u want performance. And please dont make threads for such topics. As its against xda rules.

Xperia Pureness / Ice Cream Pureness (with installed service pack 1) ROM together with KTG Anzu kernel gives you both battery and performance. And also the best custom UI ever on the Arc / Arc S!

That.
+ There is no ICS ROM, that would have performance and battery usage of GB. It just isn't possible.

Hi guys. I know I asked so much question about "Which rom is better?". But I'm sure this is my last question. Yes. Here is the question.
I want long battery life, awesome game playing, and smooth system. Im sure everybody think best rom is gingerbread. But why people chose Ics ?
İcs: better UI looking
Better looking app swithcer
Chrome, good launchers
Gingerbread:smooth rom
Long battery life
Better gaming
Etc.
What guys are you think? Which rom is better for me, İ dont care looking i just want performance

Look:
Gingerbread:
Smoother UI
Fluent
Easy to use
Better Gaming More RAM can Be Allocated to the Games.
ICS
Better UI
Fluent
Average Knowledge needed
Uses "MORE RAM" Just to run the android OS.
Gaming Will have Lag Because of the Play having Only 512MB RAM.
So why people choose Ics I cant understand.

ICS is still beta, when it will be finally released it will probably be better than Gingerbread.

Yep, I think ill stick to ginger till we have all full feature on

When it's officially released and Sony say say that they've fixed everything and will run smooth and won't be a memory hog on 512 mb ram phones then i'll definitely be upgrading to ICS

Because there are people who care to experiment, read instructions and give feedback instead of wasting their time and everyone else's asking which ROM is better.

Reloaded? I don't think anything is lighter and faster. If u have a thing for sense id go with classic.

Reloaded is what I was thinking. I play games not meant for the evo like king of fighters android and mass effect infiltrator.

I wasn't hoping for amazing batterylife. And there are always governors like smartass and power saver.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA
That is true. But any modern sense roms that I used to use when I had my EVO just didn't offer performance or battery life. I love sense but performance and battery life just weren't there. Cm7 always played everything well for me and good battery life though

That is true. With new governors like Brazilian wax and wheatley in mason kernel you have even more options for speed vs battery life. This setup of Mason+reloaded+vipermod is gonna get u the best bettery life and performance. I've flashed almost everything and highly doubt it'll get better.
You can get good battery life gaming on your EVO. You pretty much have only two options to choose from:
1. AOSP rom and use wheatly governor
2. Senseless 1.0 rom (Alter is the best) underworld kernel
Don't forget to use chainfire3D app, and try not to overclock unless you need the performance boost.
Just in case anyone was wondering I tried out all the sugestions . But be live it or not team dirts cm9 ran games the best. I was running gta 3 on medium setting smoothly.

[Q] disadvantages of CM9

What is the disadvantages of CM9 ??
Camera quality isn't as good and slower to take photos, interface is a bit laggier than a stripped down stock gingerbread, battery drain can be worse depending on customisations and tweaks, some apps run slower/graphics can be jerkier/Mobo player is buggy (an ICS issue)
Advantages are AOSP interface, higher app compatibility, ability to install application data to the SD card and many more

I think the battery is quite good. Because mine can hold even almost 1 day. You should wait for 3 - 4 cycle charge before you can complaint about the battery issue If you just flashed rom. About the other I can say much because I don't use gb rom very much.
But for me cm9 is good fast smooth and stable for me

You should at least try using some GB roms before coming to a conclusion

I think the strength of cm9 is in its ability to hold large amount of Apps without lagging like stock does.
The one and only thing I can think of is the fact that there are too many different choices you do not know which suits you.

If you want to use GB roms then use RebelROM something like that... simple like GB Stock but more reliable and transparent and it has no complaint.. i use just a month and then join ICS

I used a whole bunch of GB ROMs for the W before eventually settling with CM9 again after thinking it was giving me battery drains since CM9 provided a cleaner and smoother interface also better gaming experience than any of the GB ROMs provided.
GB is alright but compared to ICS and CM9 its not as good if you do alot of gaming since I found even the best GB ROM has more lag than CM9 gaming wise.

Disadvantages of using custom kernel

What are they? I really want to use it because since my arc s is updated to ICS, it became turtle, but using custom kernel, I really afraid it cause my phone becomes a rock in the future!! So please ! Thank you

not an expert on custom kernels, but you can most definitely flash a custom rom to increase your phone's performance

yes, i really want to use custom rom, but there are bugs! so i prefer use stock rom with some mod
If I may, I recommend Jelly sandwhich. It's essentially almost bug-free according to posts on the thread - as for me however, I haven't encountered any bugs on version 7.3
Wouldn't hurt to try
What abt battery?

Compared to stock kernel you might experience higher performance but at a cost. It might include bugs and make the phone unstable. There could be memory leaks which mean you would have to reboot the phone very often to keep it functional, it will begin to lag after a few days of use.
The memory tunings can increase user interface performance but also often at cost of poor multitasking and higher battery drain as Android continuously in the background swaps apps in and out of memory. A general higher battery drain is also normal for many of the kernels or at least used to be half a year ago.
Stick to stock kernel unless you really need the extra performance or try to find a custom kernel with only very small modifications. Overclock and undervolt are two "safe" modifications that does not change the behavior of the kernel, that is as long as it is not overdone. The success rate of undervolt and over clock depend allot on your handset and can differ allot. Some can safely overclock to 1.8Ghz, others can hardly keep it at 1.4Ghz for the old Xperia Arc.
If you have root access, you can install "MinFreeManager" app to manually tune memory parameters, these are reset at reboot of your phone and it is safe to try different values. If you find stock ICS slow, you can increase the memory limits for Hidden, Content and Empty apps to improve user interface experience. It will be at a cost worse multitasking, and could cause higher battery drain if you have too many widgets and services installed to fit in the memory after updating the memory settings.
Thank you so.much for your information

[Q] Best ICS Rom for Gaming?

The question is in the title, what's the best ROM for gaming and customization options? I really like CM9, but it's not as smooth as stock-based ICS, and the touchpad support is in between.
So what I'm looking for is smooth gameplay/touchpads, good battery life, and it's theme-able (not really a big concern, I just like testing out alot of themes). Thank you in advance.
Hey buddy, I would either recommend xPlayStation by @frago21ps or my Ice Cream Speed, but if u can wait a bit I'm making a CM9 ROM, it has all features + Amazing Gaming, better than ICSpeed, why? ~ CM9 Drivers are Pretty Beast!
