[Q] Finding the right rom - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been trying a few new roms lately and I really like the LiquidSmoothe rom but I miss the swiping feature in my contact list to make calls and msgs on my stock rom. Is there an app that is similar to that or a good rom that using the swiping contact list. Thanks for your suggetions.

The only roms you will find this on are Touch Wiz roms that use the default dialer and contacts app.

Anyone have a good TouchWiz rom suggestion then? I saw a Beans rom on my friends Note 2 that looked nice but its only on Verizon S3. I would like one built on 4.2.1 and maybe with sphere camera. I liked how the Beans rom let you select if you wanted TouchWiz or AOKP. Help me Obi Wan!

A rom that let's you choose between AOKP and touchwiz... what?

I think what he means is it lets you choose between AOSP theme/launcher and a Touchwiz one. A good touchwiz rom is the JellyBean UCDLK3 The Devils Reject Edition v3, as well as Jellybean747 Version 1. If you really want to keep AOSP and 4.2.1 you can always install the touchwiz launcher/contacts app that will let u swipe across to call/message.

I'd also recommend The Devil's Reject ROM. Stable smooth and quick. I went to it from liquidsmooth after missing Smart Stay too much.

This is hardly a reason to switch to any rom. Just install exDialer from the store and boogie. You can get TW or AOSP style skins and there is an option to swipe left to SMS and swipe right to call the contact from the dialer screen. Just use T9 search from the dialer screen and you're set.

I recommend Darthstalker #X it's my DD and I'm running instigatorX kernel. Excellent battery life very snappy and VERY stable. Then I theme it via morphology it's very, very awesome.:thumbup:
Morphed SIII "Get busy livin or get busy dyin"

I suggest Jedi invasion. It has awesome performance and customization and is a Touchwiz based rom.

[Q] Differences between Touchwiz, CM10, and stock Jelly Bean

I am a bit new to Android and the GS3. But honestly I am already sick and tired of waiting for Jelly Bean as well as some of the problems of Touchwiz. So I think CM10 is the next thing for me. But I am unsure of the differencr between Touchwiz and CM10. For example I love the quick settings panel, the brilliang camera app and settings, Wi-Fi direct sharing (sbeam) , as well as the smart dialer and decent task manager. I just want to make sure everything will be better.
it's your call. i'd say you should try it out, and if you don't like it, you can always go back to stock touchwiz. just remember to read the op and the last few pages of the thread to make sure there aren't any unwanted problems to deal with. and of course, backup your current rom.

Stock Jelly Bean has been leaked. This will give you all the Jelly Bean goodness without resorting to a custom ROM.
You could also install the touchwiz launcher on CM10 if you like the TouchWiz UI. (I don't)
You can always flash back to stock ICS if you don't like where you end up. Just read the original post and make sure you understand what you're doing so you don't end up with a brick.

So if I tried it and didn't like it, I could just go back to normal and get updates OTA and everything.
Not all S3 are identical. The radio interface are slightly different, region wise. So yes , you can download a Samsung stock ROM off the Internet, it will not be exactly the same. Call and battery performance will be affected slightly.
You can use a backup to restore, it is the closest you can get to original, but rooted.
That it's the complete picture.

Things I like about touchwiz.
Movable home screens.
Little red flags on home screen icon showing unread status.
Social hub for Twitter and Facebook.
A working music player
Swipe right to call, left to SMS
Task manager, less of an issue in ICS and later.
Good alarm app
Best battery performance without tweaking.

yes, but not without some work. you'd need to either restore your backup and unroot, and remove the custom recovery or odin back to stock.

Anything comparing features or anything?
I've been trying to stay on TW as long as I could because of the camera.

Yeah, the camera is brilliant.
Then I recommend Drew Garen Serenity rom! Its Touchwiz JB, its a GNote2 port, works great if you want the same TW features and more! (Gnote stuff), just use a launcher. I'm using tasks AOKP rom myself and its awesome

I've been stuck with AOSP. I love the TW/Samsung features, just not the interface. Coming from a Nexus, I just got comfortable with minimal. Slimbean, Aokp and liquid smooth are great base ROMs that are light.

The whole thing with that is I don't particularly care for Touchwiz. It kinda ugly and heavy with useless stuff. I just don't want to lose useful features.

yea im in the same position you are, i still change back and fourth because of features on TW that i miss and need often.
I am considering just flashing and trying it out and flashing back if I don't like it. I honestly don't mind Touchwiz, but I feel like if I give in and and wait, then I will just keep falling further behind. Perhaps Touchwiz is better now, but it certainly won't be in January
Touch wiz has too much overlay IMO. Liquid smooth is one of the best AOKP ROMs I've tried. But you will be missing out on Sbeam and everything Samsung related of course. But the sheer speed of aokp is a good enough trade off for me to lose just the neat camera and svoice.
I am using AOKP from Task and ktoonez, I love it but really miss smart stay and allshare cast to the point where I'll probably go back to TW JB once ATT actually releases it. Is there a JB ROM that includes those?
Hey guys,
Is there anyway to get the TouchWiz S3 camera features with one of the custom roms or just stick to a stock?
My brother loves the AOKP but he is insistent on having those default camera features/effects that came with the phone.

Touchwiz rom with no bloat that has navigation bar/soft keys?

Anyone know of a good stable and bloat free Touchwiz rom with navigation bar like aosp and has the back button on the left where it should be..
Or a super stable aosp / aokp rom with 4.2 jb? Currently running CM10. 1 and there is a lot of things that I use that are unstable. Or even a super stable 4.1.2 aosp/aokp rom.

A great stable build of AOKP in my opinion http://goo.im/devs/KAsp3rd/aokp/d2tmo/nightly/aokp_d2tmo_Nov-20-12.zip
T-Mobile SGS III
thank you.. i have used aokp in the past but i believe even the stable build just like cm10 has that bug where when you record video it will freeze and reboot, losing the video you were trying to record.
Was just hoping there was maybe another rom out there aosp like that doesnt have that bug.. But hey its been a while since i used aokp.. i will have to give it another go this weekend.
i could use a touchwiz rom i just need my onscreen navigation buttons the hardware buttons are lame after using softkeys for so long.
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030473 in my resource bible I found that this ROM has the option you want.
T-Mobile SGS III

First 4.2.1 rom and I like the TW launcher. TW Roms they have too many things that I don't use and mostly they are customized by the devs how they like them. And the last thing better battery life than TW roms

Actually there is but it is laggy and FC too often because it is ICS not JB
JellyBam includes the Touchwiz launcher and it is based off of CM10/AOKP. You won't get all of the stock features but if you're only needing the launcher you could try that one out.

+1 Jellybam has alot of options it comes with trebuchet and touchwiz.
Get Nova and the free touchwiz 4.5 theme for the theme engine. That's what I do sometimes. I run LiquidSmooth Beta 2.

you should try to keep all your questions in 1 post. you'll actually get better help that way.
you are on an AOSP rom. you want TW features which are woven into the stock firmware's framework. its essentially a choice: a few TW features vs custom AOSP optimizations. both can share some similar customizations, but not everything is interchangeable.
Any of the feature on TW WILL NOT WORK ON ANYTHING BESIDES TW.....
None!
They're dependant on touchwiz and won't work on anything else.

As long as source code for TW stays unreleased its impossible to port. That's why no devs bother to try and port. Its going in blindfolded. Same with Sense and other UI overlays. So when Samsung releases source code it'll be possible.

What features exactly? There's apps like Wave Control that do similar things...
Ya, there are a lot of apps that allow TouchWiz like features. There is a MMS apk for AOSP roms that has the while in messaging put phone to ear for Direct Dial. Just search in the playstore TouchWiz or galaxy s III things like that.

Well for that particular feature, I recently discovered that Liquidsmooth (and quite possibly CM, as well as JellyBam and others) have this feature in the settings for the stock messaging application. It's the last setting, labelled as "Direct Dial", but it's pretty inconsistent with the auto-dialing. I've noticed that when I'm laying down and attempt to call it won't work because if I put the phone to my ear the screen just flips to landscape view, and stays on. When I'm up right it tends to work, however I haven't had many opportunities to test this out yet.
That would be sweet if someone got two working with aosp, they need to release the code...
