If one is using a GB kernel and a JB Rom are you truly running JB.
Well no you won't be running JB because it wouldn't boot with a GB kernel

You tell me.
You used el26 kernel to flash cm10 but then cm10 came with its own kernel.

As they said. Once you flash a rom the kernel in that rom replaces the one that was on the device. CWM6 will be pretty easy to identify upon boot versus the CWM5 in the el26 kernel a quick boot into recovery will be a good sign for you. Could always go into the phone information and look at the current kernel.

No they have to do repacks its part of the kernel
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Even if you could it is not a good idea to flash using repacks.
Edit: we won't get any official CWM for ICS until kernel source is released.

I'm running CM9 alpha 4. Just wondering what the best/most recent custom kernel for flashing would be?

i would use the FE22 plus (Plus = unlocked recovery, initd, bootanim, usb-ms, adb-root)
located here
remember to use the EL26 cwm
There's a thread stickied right in the development section that has pretty much every kernel you need. Also the only kernel you should use on cm9 are the cm9 ones. The one listed above will cause the ROM not to boot past the samsung logo.
FE22 latest CM9 kernel here

oh really i was not aware of that
I thought you guys might wanna run FG31 kernel with custom recovery
so you can flash what ever you want without changing kernel.
Here is repack (like good old days) of FG31 with my tREC_v0.2.1
1. FG31_AGAT.zip flash in recovery.
2. FG31_AGAT.tar flash with ODIN or Mobile ODIN.
I have tested this repack with my tFF18 rom and it works.
So far no problems.
Hope you guys will enjoy it.
Thanks and nice work.

This kernel has a safe recovery so there is no risk to brick phone from recovery point.
We don't have a source for kernel itself so I can't tell if it's safe.
Also my recovery will use updater-binary packed into rom zip file and if binary not safe and has emmc bug you
still can brick your phone.
However you can safely backup and restore using this recovery. Wipe the phone. Do factory reset and flash any other zip file that doesn't have ICS updater binary and/or doesn't have format() command in updater script.
How is the FG31 radio
Thank you Agat for yet another option for us all.

I'm not doing AOKP/AOSP/CM.
Chris41g is making them. You should check his kernels.
Thanks Agat for another option using the latest leak and for your work.

I think you're thinking of his FF18 kernel, this one is FG31
I think the FF18 kernel is on v4.2, and the recovery is on v2.1 is how I see it..
ie, I label my backups according to kernel & recovery.. so with the latest FF18 kernel, I put v4.2.2.1 at the end.. just so I can keep track..

That's what I was thinking...in a basic-sense. I wasn't sure if there were 3 or 4 "major" differences, or if it was just the FF18 vs. FG31 change, or something else, or ... Was curious, more than anything else. Thanks sj [& agat, of course. ]
I've been running this kernel and fg31 modem with Blazer 1.5 for two days with no problem.
Thanks a bunch for the great work .

also the fact that, and I do believe, that the kernel included with CM10 is based off of sbrissen's kernel, which is based off of the smdk4210 common kernel, or simply, the international sgs2 kernel, which would need certain proprietary files from the international sgs2 in order for the phone to boot.

Do as the developer says , I remember the post stated no wipe needed.
he said NOT to wipe them so don't wipe anythn and if it works well then its great, if it boot loops then just reboot into recovery again and wipe them then reflash kernel and try again
Ya, just flash it and don't wipe anything or not it will bootloop

Ya, I'm using hadi's maxmem kernel and it works perfectly

if this is a stupid question, im sorry, but if i have slim bean, then i cant flash a different kernal cause its not an ics rom?
JB ROM flash JB kernel, ICS ROM flash ICS kernel, see the kernel is for what android version properly, DO NOT FLASH ICS KERNEL WITH JB ROM OR NOT YR PHONE WILL NOT BOOT.

each level has its specified kernel
for GB u shall use GB kernel like cow or stock kernels
for ICS u shall use ICS kernel like arcoz cm9 or castagnal or hadi kernels
for JB u shall use JB kernel like arcoz cm10 2.3.6 or 3.0 kernels or forfivo kernels
Ya, that's what I mean

you're able to flash it and it will boot. but in JB it has different mount point with ICS so your sdcard and external SD possibly won't be mounted or mounted in wrong way. for SlimBean case, i believe it use different ramdisk than usual CM10, because my friend tested it and wifi doesn't work there although i've putted wifi module on the ramdisk
Ya? Opps sry I duno can boot cause I flashed the ICS OC kernel on JB before and it stuck on boot image
So u mean if really wan to use the ICS kernel on JB can just port it by changing the mounting point?
