So im got this gnex borked an I am rtying to fix it. So far i have tried every known method(usb jig, toolkit, omap flasher, fastboot) basically everything in the book.
The phone itself will not boot up except by running omap flasher. When running omap flasher I can boot up into fastboot via plugging it in and holding all buttons. In fastboot the volume keys do not work. If I start off by trying to flash a bootloader it gets stuck at writing bootloader. If I try to flash a recovery it will say unknown partition. The jig does not force it into download mode.
Please advise me on what other steps to try.
Thanks in Advance.
just a little update I am able to boot into cwm by using fastboot boot command this allowed me to have a window into adb. I am not able to mount tanything in cwm including sdcard and /sytstem
I checked the partitions to see if they are O.K. and you can see the result in the attached pic
i tried the fastboot boot bl.img and it made it hang at the google screen with padlock
i think you should try ot flash a factory image , if you cant do this via adb , use some toolkit ,,,

If i do that It gets stuck at writing bootloader.
If you had a backup saved, it would have been easy.
Edit: Sounds like the sys permission might have been changed or something you installed could have altered the bootloader.

Try
Code:
fastboot format bootloader
before flashing?
It does look like your partitions are derped. There should be A LOT MORE partitions to show. Hopefully partition info is still there, so you might as well use fastboot to format everything else (recovery, userdata, system).

is only for booting kernels, so that obviously doesn't work.
Actually i use fastboot boot to boot clockworkmod... So it works for recoveries too.
And i agree that the partitions do not look right.
Would you fastboot flash bootloader?
Yeah. Get a bootloader from the factory image.
You can use fastboot commands right? Format every partition you can think of, except for bootloader. (system, userdata, recovery, boot)
Then flash a bootloader.
This may screw up further, but I can't think of anything else, so if all else fails, then go crazy and format bootloader? What modes can you get into and how?
I thank you guys a lot for helping me out. I will try your suggestions in an hour and report back here.

Sheesh...you got no partition info, so fastboot can make them.
Your NAND is pretty well fried I guess.
It might be time to get a replacement.
I don't know how it might be possible to repartition with having a partition info table. Mayyybe somehow you can get the partition info and have the whole internal storage mounted on your desktop, but that doesn't seem possible.

Just got a One X.
Unlocked the boot loader.
Installed CWM (v5.8.4.0 from fast boot)
Then when i navigate to the rom it says its completed update? seems to take only 30 seconds when I reboot it brings me back in CWM.
Basically I can mount the phone phone through clock work mod and see the rom/zip file but it installs as update and just keeps popping back into clockwork mod? am I able to just get this back to normal?
finding update package...
opening update package...
installing update...
finishes after 15 seconds? saying install from sdcard complete. have I missed a step?
Help me please guys I feel the information I followed as done away with a boot.img?
Cheers,
Gary

I extracted the boot image from the downloaded rom and placed that in to the fastboot folder? I followed these instructions mate, I think ive messed up the boot?
Copy the CM10 ZIP file to your phone’s internal SD card.
On the PC, extract the Fasboot.zip. You will get a folder named Fastboot.
Extract the boot.img file from the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file and place it into the Fastboot folder.
Turn your phone off.
Boot to Fastboot Mode. Hold down the Volume Down and the Power buttons until the screen turns on to enter Bootloader Mode.
In Bootloader Mode, highlight Fastboot Mode using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button.
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
Open a command prompt on your PC and navigate it to the Fastboot folder.
In the command prompt, type fastboot devices to check if your device has successfully connected to your PC. Your phone’s serial number should appear on the screen.
Flash the boot.img by typing the following in the command prompt:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Go back to your phone and select Bootloader to go back to the main Bootloader menu.
In Bootloader Mode, highlight Recovery using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Select Wipe data/factory reset > Yes.
Select Install ZIP from SD card > Choose ZIP from SD card > select the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file > Yes.
Select Go back > Reboot system now.
Ive then updated to a newer cwm as per this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
I dont think i can enter fast boot no longer? I can still mount things, but dont know what else.

As soon as the phone reboots press the vol down + power buttons, and phone will reboot into bootloader.

Your bootloader and recovery are independent of your rom. you will be able to access them even without a rom installed.
the erase cache fuction is not necessary.
Just flash your boot image again.. and try installing the rom again.

Also have you updated your hboot?? or is it the old one?
I dont think I updated the hboot? should I bother?
I am using the CM10 rom? I know its down to each tastes and requirement but is this a decent one? phone runs smoother than my LG 4X HD P880 despite that scoring more in benchmarks.
I still technically have not installed the rom through CWM? I just used cmd prompt to flash a boot image then it started up.

You can update the hboot if you want. All the sense based JB roms work only on the upgraded hboot. Though AOSP roms work on all hboots. So upto you.

Try to use ADB to flash another recovery while in fastboot I believe its "adb flash recovery /folder/folder/recoveryfilename.zip" see if that works. If adb gives you a permission error type into BASH terminal (Ubuntu/Debian) or command prompt (win) "adb root". If that recovery works there should be an option somewhere to Mount the SD card. Make sure the recovery you flash is built for your device.

Then you can do it with a nandroid backup !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1975140
Go there and download the matching nandroid of your cid and main !
You need to flash the boot.img from the nandroid and unpack the nandroid to the phones sdcard then perform a full wipe and restore the nandroid.
It might need a JTAG.

i am also thinking the same
So, I tried to get the latest Cyanogenmod on my phone.
Resulted in the the process com.android.phone has stopped issue.
FInally managed to get around that but no my phone is stuck with no CWM, no USB Windows fileshare and a HTC bootscreen.
I have searched, and read a lot of posts and the closes thing to recovery is a post on putting on a Nandroid backup for my Y13 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140)
But, since I have no USB fileshare I am unable to get it on the phone and start the process.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
I need to completely wipe and reinstall everything but has no access other that fastboot USB.
What info should I post and how do I find it if more is needed.

So, I have downloaded Philz, I think I have flashed the recovery.img file over to the phone from CMD shell window.
I have rebooted my phone to fastboot menu and selectet recovery.
The result is still the same. Just the htc boot screen.
I`m sure I`m doing something wrong but cant figure out how. Philz How to uses USB / PC file transfer so I`m unable to use it as a step by step.
Would really appreciate a step by step command overview. If possible with an explanation so that I learn why I do the different commands. Then I wont be so f.. ignorant about these things anymore. Hopefully

I was trying to clear my cache, and do a factory wipe in recovery mode, but now all I get is an android robot lying down with the word error. It just keeps booting to this screen every few seconds. When I try to get back into recovery mode, I get a message saying there is no path to cache, and then it starts booting to the robot error again. I can still hold down power and vol+, and get options for normal, recovery, power off, ect, but it won't boot. Do I have a 300 dollar brick? I hope not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This my 1st time on any phone other than samsung/htc, so I'm a little unfimilar with the process. I guess i'm so used to ODIN being my easy out. Waiting patiently.
I don't know if this can help... Maybe you can try to flash the image file in fastboot mode (vol up + power) since you are still able to go into that mode.

4. System image pre-root

Connect via ADB and after typing "fastboot devices" and checking it's connected you then type "fastboot erase cache" This worked for me but I had no cache errors, just a misunderstanding of how to get get the recovery menu....
I also erased & flashed recovery, boot, droidimg & system after erasing them. Just be careful with the droidimg though as this apparently is what allows you to get to fastboot mode and if you flash a corrupt image you will have a $300 paperweight...

Yes, you need to extract system.img from .zip. Just double click it and extract.
flashed system.img and everything says it went through in fastboot command prompt, but as soon as I reboot the phone, it just goes directly to the android robot lying down with the word error. I guess i just wasted $300......

U R the man bro. I'm back in business. This is why i love android. The community is awesome!!!
You guys are the best
Thanks to everyone who took time out of their holiday weekend to help me out with my issue. I am back up and running. WOW, I really thought I screwed it up big time. I knew that as long as I could boot to fastboot mode, that there might be hope. I truly appreciate it guys.

Assuming you have ZE551ML so you need to use Z00A.
In the folder Z00A_WW_2.17.40.12, you will see some file with name Z00A_WW_2.17.40.12_system_w_root.z01, z02, z03, z04, z05 and .zip
Download all of them into the same folder on your PC. Once done, open the file with .zip extention and extract it. You'll get system.img with size around 2GB. That is system image file you need.

My ZenFone 2 also got stuck at wiping case for 10 min or more I thought I should interrupt the process but luckily I left for some more minutes and got unstuck, it takes a lot of time for this phone to wipe case.
try holding power plus volume up for 15 sec to do a hard shut down and open it again.
if it doesn't work try volume down.
It wasn't stuck. The wiping process is just extremely slow compared to your experience with TWRP or CWM. If yours is bricked Asus will likely replace it for you.

no. it was stack because i wasnt patient and i stop it... but i fixed it with ADB Fastboot and the command "fastboot erase cache"
then i did a factory reset also very slow at wiping data, formatting data but i take my lesson and i was patient this time!
It's really slow, I bricked mine by updating while rooted accidentally and go stuck in fastboot with no ROM or recovery for a while however I managed to fix it. Patience is key in most cases

If you can enter fastboot, I think you can also enter recovery.
- If you don't care about your data enter recovery and do a wipe data (it may take very very long so please wait). When it reboots, if it's not working flash the original image from Asus site (the same version you have installed) via ADB Sideload in recovery.
- If you have to save your data run tethered TWRP, do a full backup on your microsd, use the TWRP file manager to copy all your internal memory on microsd. For recover apps data, use Titanium backup for recover apps from nandroid backup after you wiped everyting.

I don't care about data, I'll try first method. But before I bricked my phone, I have firmware version 2.18. Now I update boot and recovery images to version 2.19 by fastboot: I have to downgrade them before wipe data or it's not important?

Enter fastboot and connect your phone to pc. If you have adb installed and intel drivers, after connect your phone to pc while in fastboot, open cmd and type: Fastboot erase cache
It will go back to normal after
It stuck on the boot animation with animated ring by 40 minutes. I have to wait more? Is there another way to fix it (like flashing with Odin as a couple of years ago)?

ADB doesn't recognize my device, fastboot does. I enabled USB debugging mode and ADB always worked before I updated Zenfone this morning, but now don't. Is it possible enable 'Update zip from SDCard' instead ADB? Maybe I can fix it in this way
PS before Zenfone I had a Galaxy Nexus and I have a bit of confident with ADB, fastboot, ROM and other stuff, so I know what they are and how work
