I was trying to clear my cache, and do a factory wipe in recovery mode, but now all I get is an android robot lying down with the word error. It just keeps booting to this screen every few seconds. When I try to get back into recovery mode, I get a message saying there is no path to cache, and then it starts booting to the robot error again. I can still hold down power and vol+, and get options for normal, recovery, power off, ect, but it won't boot. Do I have a 300 dollar brick? I hope not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This my 1st time on any phone other than samsung/htc, so I'm a little unfimilar with the process. I guess i'm so used to ODIN being my easy out. Waiting patiently.
I don't know if this can help... Maybe you can try to flash the image file in fastboot mode (vol up + power) since you are still able to go into that mode.
Just download these 4 files:
1. Recovery Image
2. Boot Image
3. DroidBoot Image
4. System image pre-root
refer to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/how-to-upgrade-cn-version-to-ww-t3101556
or.. if you can go to Recovery mode (press a few times vol up + power in screen android lying down with error message) and do adb sideload to your device...
Just give it a try...

I will give it a go in the morning when I have a clear mind. I'm so frustrated that I screwed something up, that I can't think straight right now. I will literally try anything at this point.

Connect via ADB and after typing "fastboot devices" and checking it's connected you then type "fastboot erase cache" This worked for me but I had no cache errors, just a misunderstanding of how to get get the recovery menu....
I also erased & flashed recovery, boot, droidimg & system after erasing them. Just be careful with the droidimg though as this apparently is what allows you to get to fastboot mode and if you flash a corrupt image you will have a $300 paperweight...

Yes, you need to extract system.img from .zip. Just double click it and extract.
flashed system.img and everything says it went through in fastboot command prompt, but as soon as I reboot the phone, it just goes directly to the android robot lying down with the word error. I guess i just wasted $300......

Thanks to everyone who took time out of their holiday weekend to help me out with my issue. I am back up and running. WOW, I really thought I screwed it up big time. I knew that as long as I could boot to fastboot mode, that there might be hope. I truly appreciate it guys.

Assuming you have ZE551ML so you need to use Z00A.
In the folder Z00A_WW_2.17.40.12, you will see some file with name Z00A_WW_2.17.40.12_system_w_root.z01, z02, z03, z04, z05 and .zip
Download all of them into the same folder on your PC. Once done, open the file with .zip extention and extract it. You'll get system.img with size around 2GB. That is system image file you need.

same
Same thing here (or at least very similar). Hoping there's a simple solution like the "Odin back to stock" I can do on my SGS phone.
are you sure that the bootloader say "unlock mode"?
If so, then try this.
try this
Install the USB drivers on your PC if you haven't done it already. ( http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...A TAB&Step3=A100&OS=a08&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6 )
install android SDK. ( http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html )
copy the update.zip file to your SD card root.
download TWRP recovery ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608152 ) and place it in the platform-tools dir where the SDK was installed ( ex. C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools )
Once all that is done follow these steps
1) boot the tablet to fastboot mode
2) run command prompt on PC (cmd.exe)
3) cd to the platorm-tools dir
4) type the following lines one at a time.
adb.exe
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery NAMEOFRECOVERY.img (ex. recovery-A100ICS-TWRP.img)
5) hold the vol down button on the tablet
6) type fastboot reboot.
The tablet should now reboot to the recovery program. Goto settings and mount the external SD card, then flash the update.zip by going to install.
Hope this helps

Did you rename/delete /etc/install-recovery.sh ?
I think you're not. Try to make hard reset, then boot normaly rename/delete this file and after that flash recovery again, it should work.
All it's explained here.

That's awesome news!!!
Number 1 is the correct command.
Just making sure you are actually in fastboot (bootloader) mode. On the command-promt type "fastboot devices", if you see the result below, then you're good
? fastboot (yes that's a question mark)
Now be sure you are in the directory with the recovery image and issue number 1 command (fastboot flash recovery whatever-recovery.img). If you get some errors, be sure to check the MD5 hash of the recovery image cuz it could be a corrupted download.
Of course, you can't flash the custom recovery if you still have a locked bootloader.
you guys rock..even closer
Thank-you everyone ..I am soooo close. I did get the recovery image to load (I accidently had it in android-sdk and not platform-tools...oooops my bad). Now I can reboot to recovery and install the update.zip off my external sd card. However after I install the update.zip and reboot, I still get stuck on the acer screen (bootloader version 0.03.06-ICS (Unlock Mode) at top with acer logo in green at bottom.
Which update.zip am I suppose to be using? Currently I am trying to install one of the stock ROMS from the developer section of this forum. Am I suppose to be using a specific one?
Thanks again, I know I'm close. My tablet has been brick'd for weeks and I'm dedicated to getting it back now that I have time.

Congrats resurrecting your tab! Gotta be a great relief!
How about Flexreaper ROM? It will require full wipe before flashing: in recovery wipe/factory reset, wipe system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, flash Flexreaper ROM zip file. This is basic guide, follow detailed instructions on this ROM thread (link is in my sig).

Power down the unit. Set screen lock in the up position. Hold volume down and power. When powered on keep holding the vol down button. Then toggle the screen lock to down.
That should do a factory reset.
Then put a stock rom in the root of SD Card. Volume up then power until let the tablet recover.
This worked for me.
did u install the drivers from an earlier post? Also when you power up you your tablet you need to boot into fastboot mode? You're certain you have done both of these things?
I am unable to connect to, my pc doesnt recognize my acer anymore...unless by sd card you mean external card? Thank you for trying to help. I'm a serious noob but trying hard.
i'm in a similar situation. i accidentally deleted the build.prop file and rebooted. now it only displays a black screen after the acer logo drops out. my boot loader is locked but i cant install the mtp usb drivers to fix anything. think i have a paperweight now.

tried. i had no alternative recovery on it. i could not get the sd card mounted to push the zip to it. both adb and fast boot wont see my tablet. every attempt at unlocking fast boot wouldn't work. I tried to check in device manager to see if it was connected, the driver was working but it had an error message "Device can not start (Code 10)"
My pc only sees my tablet when I boot it into fastboot mode and sees it as an adb interface...Is there anything I can do from there?
Just got a One X.
Unlocked the boot loader.
Installed CWM (v5.8.4.0 from fast boot)
Then when i navigate to the rom it says its completed update? seems to take only 30 seconds when I reboot it brings me back in CWM.
Basically I can mount the phone phone through clock work mod and see the rom/zip file but it installs as update and just keeps popping back into clockwork mod? am I able to just get this back to normal?
finding update package...
opening update package...
installing update...
finishes after 15 seconds? saying install from sdcard complete. have I missed a step?
Help me please guys I feel the information I followed as done away with a boot.img?
Cheers,
Gary

I extracted the boot image from the downloaded rom and placed that in to the fastboot folder? I followed these instructions mate, I think ive messed up the boot?
Copy the CM10 ZIP file to your phone’s internal SD card.
On the PC, extract the Fasboot.zip. You will get a folder named Fastboot.
Extract the boot.img file from the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file and place it into the Fastboot folder.
Turn your phone off.
Boot to Fastboot Mode. Hold down the Volume Down and the Power buttons until the screen turns on to enter Bootloader Mode.
In Bootloader Mode, highlight Fastboot Mode using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button.
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
Open a command prompt on your PC and navigate it to the Fastboot folder.
In the command prompt, type fastboot devices to check if your device has successfully connected to your PC. Your phone’s serial number should appear on the screen.
Flash the boot.img by typing the following in the command prompt:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Go back to your phone and select Bootloader to go back to the main Bootloader menu.
In Bootloader Mode, highlight Recovery using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Select Wipe data/factory reset > Yes.
Select Install ZIP from SD card > Choose ZIP from SD card > select the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file > Yes.
Select Go back > Reboot system now.
Ive then updated to a newer cwm as per this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
I dont think i can enter fast boot no longer? I can still mount things, but dont know what else.

Your bootloader and recovery are independent of your rom. you will be able to access them even without a rom installed.
the erase cache fuction is not necessary.
Just flash your boot image again.. and try installing the rom again.

I dont think I updated the hboot? should I bother?
I am using the CM10 rom? I know its down to each tastes and requirement but is this a decent one? phone runs smoother than my LG 4X HD P880 despite that scoring more in benchmarks.
I still technically have not installed the rom through CWM? I just used cmd prompt to flash a boot image then it started up.

You can update the hboot if you want. All the sense based JB roms work only on the upgraded hboot. Though AOSP roms work on all hboots. So upto you.

I instal root without problem, than I try to install Twrp recovery and after that I have that message ( [780] fast boot mode started) all the time, I try to do hard reset, click yes twice, but getting the same message, Is there any chance to unbrick that device when I can't go even to download mode?
Thank You very much for any suggestions
help!
help my G3 died the same thing happened!
same to me...
What model(s)? Youll need a pc, adb/fastboot, stock laf.img and boot.img for your device. Youll use adb commands to erase these img files and restore them with the new ones. Once you have adb running and recognizing your device with both files in same folder as adb you'll type adb erase laf [Enter] then adb flash laf laf.img [Enter] do the same steps for the boot.img. Next type adb reboot [Enter] you'll still be in fastboot but just pull the battery. Then replace battery and you should be able to enter download mode by inserting the usb and pressing vol +(i believe, it's been a while) and then kdz flash..

I can see a different screen for a split of a second but it's going back to Fastboot mode...
@SaharLevi
Here's the fix Quick and easy
need to have fastboot, I used ubuntu can install with sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot
info on fastboot
[TOOL] [WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer
also need recovery.img, I used the lastest twrp
In terminal
fastboot boot recovery.img
this will boot your phone with the img on your computer.
in recovery restore or install a good boot or kernel.
your phone should be good to go after that.
I had my phone fixed in about 5 min, I really should not play around with boot partition.
Also should be able to flash boot if you have a good one,
fastboot flash boot boot.img
i tried to install twrp in asus 5z through commands then i flashed the wrong active slot or may be both.
now my mobile is stuck at fastboot , i tried many tools and commands, it is getting out i means turns off and turns on the screen then the next second itself it shows fastboot
nothing is working i tried power botton and vol+ and vol- plus power and all the combinations mobile turning off and turning on into fastboot dirctly
what should i do ?????

1. Flash original boot.img, or
2. flash full original ROM, or
3. factory reset.

1. Flash the boot.img
2. Or flash FB ROM from here:
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...KL-90.11.162.58-MR5-user_20190424-release.zip
i tried to flash this by command fastboot flash boot filename.zip
but it saysinvalid sparse file format at header magic
and some more errors says mmultiple blocks
and failed remote flashing partition

You cannot flash .zip file. Command shoulf be:
fastboot flash boot boot.img (in case the boot.img file is located in the same folder as fastboot.exe).
Do not forget to flash it to the right slot A/B, where your system is currently located.

You don't have to flash it like that.
1. Extract the zip.
2. Open the extracted folder.
3. Put your phone in bootloader (fastboot mode).
4. Double click on 'flash_ALL.bat' file.
Flashing will start.

No. It's an FB ROM, you don't have to select any partition. It will do everything on its own.
Ok, I thought you are flashing only boot... Anyway, hamzain just replied you correctly.

This is a zip from one of the top 3 pinned threads on this OP9P forum that has stock and patched boot.img from your 4.4AA build..(if thats what ur phone is still on). U may be able to download the zip, put on ur pc, extract it, then open cmd and fastboot boot (then drag the stock boot.img to the command prompt u typed in) and hit enter.. It may work to get u back booted unrooted...

Crap that didn't work. I'm so beyond screwed. I wonder IF and when TWRP comes out if I will be able to decrypt then.
Try flashing 4.4 or 5.5 full OTA via fastboot/fastbootd. If you are gonna try the 5.5 then you gotta use EU/India.
TWRP at this point is a pipe dream. Decrypt doesn't even work for A10 on OP and Android is moving faster than TWRP can keep up.

Is that where i flash all the individual .imgs with fastboot? or just system.img
Individual
In case this comes from magisk modules, just try to reboot in safe mode:
Safe Mode
1. Hold power until it goes off
2. Boot and wait for the bootloader warning
3. Hold vol up and down until boot animation
4. Once it's booted just reboot again and you're done
Now on boot all magisk modules are disabled
Other option, have you try to flash your original boot!

I get this for several of the img files.
FAILED (remote: Flashing is not allowed for Critical Partitions
But I'm able to get to recovery now, with this error
boot reason fs_mgr_mount_all
Fastbootd for critical partitions (not fastboot)
I wiped it.
close the thread.
Oh too bad i had your solution, as ihad the same problem last week.
For anyone else in this situation you have to flash the stock boot img to opposite partition. Then boot to that partition. Get your data off at that point before you do anything else. Then try to re-root
