I am trying to follow the directions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719, but I when I try to select the supplied CWM.zip to flash, it tries to open the file (progress bars flash briefly) and fails with the android figure on its back with the red triangle over its open "guts". I'm taking that as a bad sign...
I am able to get my phone to reboot cleanly if I take out the battery for a few seconds, replace it, and restart the phone, so it doesn't look like I'm doing any obvious permanent damage, yet. I don't see any meaningful error message to use to continue debugging, so I'm kinda stuck. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S2 SPH-D710 which just upgraded last week to ICS 4.0.4.
I'm new to rooting, so I'm not sure how to get around this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just a link to an article where this is already covered. Thanks!
Digitally yours,
GP

"amend scrripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5.
it was nessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockwork mod 3.0 gingerbread baded recovery.
installation aborted"
can somone tell me what this means>?
It means you didn't search, or even look around
Theres like a million active threads on clockwork and rom manager issues right now.

I'm going to apologize for that retard that posted before me. There have been issues all over the place. Read that and you should get an idea on what you need to do. I'm still trying to come up with a fix because AR recovery doesn't flash rom's either. I may end up just starting all over again.

I have seen you on all of the threads on this topic and I feel your pain. Just fortunate enough that my phone still works. When you say "start over", what should I do. Flash the RUU that the phone came with? I have the .76hboot. HW003. Then I could do the toast 3 part root and nand method again? I have tried many options and I can't flash anything.
Yeah its people like that Guy who push me away from this forum. Anyways yeah thanks for the info I.actually fixed it before I looked at this or I would have gave this ***** ***** a piece of my mind. Thanks again bro

His response was very inappropriate and unhelpful. However retorting back like you did is very counter-productive to improving the nature of responses to threads on this forum. Just be polite and ignore those who treat you bad. The mods will have their way with them.

Lol, u mad?
Did you completely miss the smiley?
At the time this thread was posted, the several threads immediately above and below this one were discussing the same issue. In fact most of the first pages in both q&a and general were filled with similar threads. Had I not been on the phone, I probably would have linked to one other than mentioning that there were already a ton of existing threads in the same issue.
If my low key post was enough to almost turn you away, you should think about developing a thicker skin

Anyway...
I'm going to have to flash the stock RUU and re-root my phone again. I've tried so many things and I can't flash any ROM's on my phone.
The bad part is that I don't have my laptop with me so that will have to wait until later this week. I'm using an AOSP right now but my signal keeps jumping to 1X and I need a Sense ROM so I can update PRL and update my profile.
How can i install a theme anyone? Plz?
Step 1a: search, maybe read a sticky or the OP from any theme thread.
1b: root phone
2: flash custom rom/deodexed stock Rom
3: flash the the the same way.

You are in bootloops. Not a big deal. Try wiping cache and dalvik and rebooting. If that doesn't work then re flash the rom.

Okay here's what you do:
Go to the android development forum and find the thread labled radio updates. I would search for you but I'm too lazy.
Download the latest radio update from Calkulin and flash via recovery.
About halfway through the process of the radio update being applied, pull the battery from your phone.
That should do the trick...you wont have to come on here asking anymore questions either.
Flash your theme the same way. Except don't pull the battery.

Your post has been reported to the mods. Real nice way to help someone instantly brick their phone. You post has seriously baffled me. ***** move.
You guys sure must forget what its like to be new to XDA. Yes, the OP should do some more reading, searching, and also be a little more clear when asking something. But, honestly if when you were new would you have wanted people to treat you that way? I realize the OP's post are very... all over the place but honestly dropping all the profanity is not needed. XDA is being overrun I would have to say, but all your doing is going to cause more of these posts in the long run. Help him out now, and the posts more than likely won't continue as long as he is pointed in the right direction.
P.S. Go ahead and flame all over me for this one if you please. Make my day! I remember when it was cool to act childish and talk like your tough and run your mouth behind a computer screen... Give up your rants, or don't bother posting.
It is really a shame to have this happening on this site.
Please be courteous and treat members the way you want to be treated. Thread has been reported so let's stop the non-sense and either help the new member or leave this thread.
Last and only friendly warning
To OP...
If this is not the thread or the right area for your question, please post your question on the proper forum.

No flaming here, and no flaming towards the OP. I do remember what it was like being new to XDA. It's just like anything new in your life-but it does not entitle you to be obnoxious and repulsive but more so the exact opposite. That is no necessary(or welcomed here or on any other forum. or for that matter anywhere in life really).
To the original poster:
Boot into recovery like you were if you were flashing a new ROM. If you are not sure what I just said, then before you apply any theme or mod from this sub-forum, you will need to have a rooted device. Not sure what I just said? Search the forum for how to root your Evo. Familarize yourself with what rooting is and what it entails. After rooting, find a custom ROM in the Android development sub-forum for your Evo and flash via recovery. Wipe cache, dalvik cache, and then flash. In order to transfer any files to your phones SD card you have to do 1 of 2 things.
1. Hook up your phone to your computer after it has been rooted and change setting to disk drive and you will be able to find it in "Computer" as a drive
2. Remove the SD card from the back of your phone(under the battery) and insert into SD card reader and place files onto the root of your SD card. The root means do not place it anywhere other than the folder that first appears when you open your SD card up.
I was new at one point to bro don't worry. Basically to get a theme, obviously you must download it first, if you download it from your phone its a little bit easier but if you download it from your computer you just need to plug in your phone. put your phone in disk drive and drag it to your sdcard. Very simple and of course make sure you get you know a sense theme for a sense rom(make sure its the same version too!!) and if you have an aosp rom make sure you get an aosp theme. Once it is in your sd card boot your phone into recovery by turning your phone off and turning it back up with holding the power button and the rocker switch DOWN. Go to recovery there and first thing you should do is back up!! So go to nandroid and backup!!!! After that go to install from sdcard, look for your file and install it! let it install and after it should prompt you to reboot device and press ok and your done!
lmao at the lame that took his tyme to rite that
Please be nice, everyone =D.
Theres also plenty of tutorials on youtube just search htc evo themes. And not everybody here enjoys flaming so dont sweat it

This is the third thread today that you have started in the same subject...
Not to mention that this is in the entirely incorrect category. It's sad that people will still start the subject line with "[Q]" and STILL put it in Galaxy Nexus General as opposed to the one RIGHT beneath it.
I'm very happy with my rom. I don't want a "better" one.
How can I disable the OTA notification, which really isn't a notification, it actually shows up as a window on top of my desktop?
I'm running LG8 jellybomb, which I hate for the questionable art style, but absolutely love for the smoothness and usability.

I think you can disable them by editing build.prop.I just read on how to do it a few days ago here on xda,i tried to find it for you but couldnt. My S3 is temporarly broke so i dont need it right now,but its definetely anoying.
Temp solution is just to accept the update-it wont update but crash into cwm. This will make them go away for a day or two but they will come back eventualy. When they do do it again.

I'd rather manually edit a /sys file than take the ota.

Thats what i said, lol. But it will only go away until you reboot the phone again, then it will come back.So this is only a teporary fix.

And to add to the instructions, let it fail before flashing the fixed build.prop otherwise it stays in your cache until you acknowledge it.
I have been trying to figure out two things with this ROM that perhaps someone can point in the right direction on:
1. WI-FI tether seems to be inconsistent, slow or not useable when tethered to my New Ipad compared to the speed I get directly to my phone. Not looking for exact same speed, just basic functionality. Is there any special settings I need to configure to make it work better?
2. Gmail - Why can't I email out to my gmail groups? I used to be able to when it was stock and even rooted...a basic function that I need multpile times daily and REALLY need a work around fast.
Thanks a ton!
You should try the CM10 thread or Q&A.
I would love to but don't know where that is at.
Thanks

Posting something once in the wrong location. Okay sure no problem... but posting it TWICE one after another, in the same wrong location... come on...
And then, trying to placate your ignorance by giving some BS excuse about not knowing where it's at...? If you have the ROM and have it installed, you've obviously been around enough to know how to go about getting it which would incidentally make it equally as possible that you could find where it's at.
It's quite obvious that you posted here because you thought it was going to get "more attention."
I refuse to condone these actions, and thus I will not help you. Good luck to you, sir.
