Goodbye Titanium Backup - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

You are very welcome.

Well I am rooted. Thanks for sharing, but I love all the features of titanium backup.

meh, rom toolbox pro does all of it and more. Also has all the features of titanium. best money i ever spent on an app
but this is probably the best free alternative

Very cool.

I tried it but it didn't impressed me at all. Also too much setup via PC and phone etc.. And need to re-enable it at every reboot or after turning off the device.
TB is the best in the field. IMO

It has some cool features. I like having a second option and remotely stored apps. Thanks lick.

There are far too many things it can't back up that Titanium can for me to see goodbye over this. I'll recommend it to all my non-rooting friends, and maybe buy it for any devices I wish to root, but it's hardly a replacement.

+1 for ROM Toolbox... Use it all the time

I have to admit. I like this way better then Titanium Backup.

Carbon's UI is much nicer than Titanium Backup's. But Carbon doesn't backup even half of the stuff that TB does. So sticking with Titanium.

Um, there is a free version of Titanium too. Carbon is a nice alternative for those who prefer a pretty UI over features.

Yeah I bought Ti Backup Pro when I first rooted, seems like a waste to not use it.

I think perhaps the real use of this app is for non rooted phones who couldn't backup with Titanium.

It's no longer available since it pushes ads/spam until you give it a 5 star rating.

Then you might want to give titanium backup products a shot it works great if you want to spend the $6 on it, it is a great app

App Quarantine is a free option and it's adfree
I think the best way to get rid of bloat is to root your phone and installing a custom ROM without all the bloat.
I put off rooting my phone thinking it'd be too complicated or scary, I didn't want to brick my phone but there are great YouTube videos on it.
Then flash a custom ROM (more YouTube videos). I've tried the Mohkg, Zombie, Bombaridier, and Juggernaut ROMs. I like BeastMOD and am trying Paradox right now.
I'm using Root Freezer Pro and it works like a charm.

Agreed. Titanium Backup is well worth the money.
HERE is a spreadsheet that lists whats safe to remove, what they do, and whats not. Knock yourself out.
script
I one of the forums there is a script by playya to remove bloatware. Does anyone know if it is only for custom ROMS, or whether one can flash it on stock ROM. Noob status does not let me ask the question in the apps/dev forum.

Get the app Boot animations by Jrummy Apps Inc. You can change your boot animations to something cool!
Also try out Nova launcher or any other launchers. You can change animations themes all kinds of stuff.
Root browser is really usefull also.
Adfree block ads but disables websites like ad.fly etc
Rom toolbox. Just got this one you can do so much but make sure you know what you're doing lol.
Depends on what you're looking for, and what kind of rooted user you are.
For me, all of these are essential tools to have on hand, whether or not I need to use them at the moment.
Super User (Elite)
BusyBox (Pro)
Titanium Backup (Pro)
ROM Manager (Pro)
Triangle Away
Voodoo OTA Root Keeper
Root Explorer
Mobile ODIN
to name a few

Boot animations can only be changed of you're running a custom kernel.
Otherwise they have to be .qmg files which I don't believe that app supports

Easy ums is pretty cool. If you have a micro sd inserted, you can use your phone like an external hdd. I use this to store videos so I can connect to any smart tv and watch it on a bigger screen. If anyone knows an easier way to do this, let me know.

You cant share a paid for app. If you do then its considered warez and warez isn't allowed on this site nor will any one condone to piracy.
I rooted and i haven't seen any real benefits yet except tethering. (I want to minimize any modifying to the phone)

Well I was hoping there was a free legal way to get it.... like taking a offer or a survey. Kinda like how akinator lite offer akinator pro to people who like their Facebook page or tell a certain amount of people about the app.... free doesn't always mean steal. Remember that

Did you leave the box checked that said sync with Google (OE something like that on the first boot)
And as far as tb goes give app to zip a try. Its a great app, and there is a free version that will do all you need. And the pro version is less than three dollars

Saving my apps to an sd card works for me. I also tend to modify roms via the android kitchen and while at it, place a few apps I need accessible prior to flashing (root explorer, etc).
Well, I've noticed that they don't restore all the time unless you use the same ROM. But even a stock rim misses the occasional app. Titanium Backup works great for me.

Remove your Google account, and just add it back for auto restore to work again.

Just a kick because if your apps don't start to auto restore and you want them to, simply go to Settings, Remove your Google account, and just add it back. Worked for me.

[Q] Backup Help

Hello everyone,
I would like to know of a app, free or paid, that can backup all my items for me. I am currently using 2 apps, SMS backup and app backup and restore, and it works well but is there a way to backup game data? Like I play games a lot and gotten far in some and don't want to lose it you know? Anyone got any ideas? This is the only thing keeping me from flashing new roms. Thank you!

Yup won't loose any data -simply use titanium backup to backup all your apps + data and restore them after you flash !
also I would recommend using titanium backup pro the paid version
I agree, I've been using the paid version for almost 3 years. Makes everything so much easier.

I bought titanium pro long ago for the freeze function and to support the dev. I think it was worth it. The app gets updates often. Usually if people have issues they are just confused or it will be fixed quickly. Titanium can be confusing at first, but the amount of options are sweet once you realize everything you can do with it. My backup root is a bit easier to use, but I prefer titanium pro because of the extensive options and just because I'm used to it.

Disabling bloatware

Sorry if this is posted somewhere, but I have read and searched and wasn't able to find anything.
I have an SGH-I317 running stock 4.1.2 rooted and would like to know if there is a list of which stock apps can be safely disabled without causing problems with other apps.
This is my first android device as I have been an iPhone user since the very first one launched up until 2 months ago I made the switch. I'm very happy with the phone, I just would like to know which factory installed apps can be disabled without causing problems with other apps.
Any info is greatly appreciated!

No list to my knowledge. ..
Use titanium backup pro and freeze the apps you wish to remove one by one and test.
Most ATT apps can be dumped without issues, and freezing them is safe in case you need them.
You need root of course. ..g
Is there a difference between freezing them and disabling them?
I know disabling them 'hides' them from the app drawer. Does freezing them do the same?

Freezing makes it so that the android system cant see it i believe disabling just makes it stop running and removes the icon
I found this after some more searching, it is for the s2 / s3 but is a pretty good to go on list for other samsung devices as well.

I haven't went with titanium pro yet.
It's on my wish list of apps to buy.
I just went with disabling the at&t apps for now. I've tried a few custom ROMs which had the bloatware removed but there was always something missing that I liked from the stock ROM. (I don't mind some of the Samsung apps)
Plus being new to android I'm still learning what it does and how it does it so I'm nervous to use custom ROMs until I'm more comfortable with what's going on with my device. It's a bit of a shock to the system going from iOS for 6 yrs to android.
Overall I'm happy with the switch so far.

I am still stock... unrooted. Hide the bloats and you won'y really feel the 'pain' too much until you are more confident of what you are doing. I experience no lag with all my bloats hidden. I didn't even bother to disable them. Phone is still smooth as butter.

I know disabling them does. Someone had mentioned hiding them so I was asking if hiding them prevents them from running in the background. I'm pretty sure it doesn't but wasn't positive.
I took the disabling route because it hides the apps as well as completely turning them off.
