[Q] Question about MetroPCS and Sprint S3s - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So i think i understand that the phones are almost alike. Here is a question, would it be possible to download a Sprint ROM for the S3 and make it work on MetroPCS's S3? Just curious, because there does not seem to be tons of development in the metro area. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes, there are a couple of "how to port" tutorials, I have metro PCS and when I like a ROM and I cant find the official ROM I just port it,

Thanks for the response brother I will look into it !

I am going to attempt the
Sprint: Wicked_Sensations_JB_Rom_v2.0_Release.zip
with the
Metro: Liquid-JB-v2.1-Beta3.2.1-d2mtr.zip
and attempt to make it a metro ROM, any suggestions or issues I should look out for?

If you flash and it says status 6 or status 7 error, then theres a problem with the updater script
Make sure you keep a COMPLETE zip/unzipped backup of your base rom (in this case the metro one) because you might find that you need some spare parts here and there

Thanks bro I will attempt it and let you know how it goes.

Bought new boost ET4G, can i flash sprint roms, kernels, etc?

I have been on Sprint forever with an Evo or many Evos. Decided to try boost and the E4GT or Galaxy 2 as they call it. I rooted it and obviously being a flashaholic with my Evo I want to do the same. I haven't got any solid answers....can I flash all roms, kernels, modems etc? I know Im a sellout for going to boost...but times are tough these days. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks xda...you all rock!!!!
I'm not a boost user but i have read posts that its ok to do so. Many posts.
My thinking is this; if a flash takes you away, a nandroid will bring you back.
Give the section a search, this has been asked several times before.
No rudeness intended at all, just letting you know the answer is in here.

I appreciate your response....and I agree that it should work. But I tried to run mobile odin for example and it said device not supported. Assuming because in the model name it has the added BST after D710. I just don't want to brick if I don't have to....and yes, nandroid is great if that option doesn't get eliminated by messing up something first
If you don't mind waiting a bit, ill try to gather the threads up and post links in here.
Doing the xbox thang at the moment.
About the best i can do unless a boost user chimes in.

hey you made a smart move if you dont mind not having roaming...that is why i also switch, but I have a sprint ET on Boost
more then likely why mobile odn does not work cause your build.prop does not equal......
ro.product.model=SPHD710
do a backup and change the setting it kinda like tricking the program you have a sprint verison.
Great idea....can you tell me the best way to change the build.prop? Never went that route....I guess if I install a sprint Rom it would probably do the same, right? Thanks you guys for the insight and ideas....greatly appreciated!!!
If you flash a rom yes it will be the same. If you can get root using a one click you can use rom toolbox to edit your build prop. I would just suggest using the one click for fi27. Use the no data version to keep your data like games and apps. Then by using the one cli k it shout give you cwm anyway.

Needs Root,.....if you are going to mess with the phone in the hard core files you are going to need root anyway.
Patrao gave you a very easy way to get root.....

Need help porting!

Hello, I was gonna ask if it is possible to port a international Galaxy S3 ROM to the sprint one?
I really wanna port the super nexus one from the international but is more complicated than porting from a US S3?
Well why not just try it out? I mean the main problem people who port roms is that theres one feature in one device that isnt exactly compatible with another device, but since that ROM is built for as similar a device to this one as is possible, then it should be easier than trying to port from something completely different
I mean obviously the final test is just trying it, so why not give it a go?

Status 6 and status 7 errors mean that somethings funky with the updater-script. Most likely its your mount points

Porting from international is much harder than putting from a us variant
Because of different hardware and the fact that putting between us carries have been done plenty so some devs should easily be able to give you some specific help
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Porting between the us s3's takes little if any work depending on the rom itself. Whereas if you don't know what your doing I strongly advise not trying to port one from the International s3. The partitions are different and one typo can lead to a hard brick.

[Q] How to use a local CDMA Network on my EVO 4G

Hey guys. i'm pretty new to the forum and android development so forgive me if i'm posting in the wrong section.
So this i what i want: I want to configure my Evo (sprint) to use a local cdma carrier here. (i moved to NIgeria and theres no sprint coverage whatsoever here!).
Can it be done?
How can it be done?
Thanks a lot for replies:highfive:
Of course it can be done.
Do a search here and basically follow the guides for flashing to boost or cricket.
Your going to need a "donor" for the cdma carrier you want to use. Try an get one thats 3g and that you can find drivers for...
Then flash accordingly. ..like I said, it will be a similar process just the info will be a bit different.
Good luck

Donor?
Um.. like i said in my first post.. im a noob. Could you please tell me more about this "donor" thingy..

Well basically, for each carrier, the phone has some specific identifiers put on it
when you "flash" from one carrier to another, you're essentially just transferring those identifiers from one phone to another, and thats what the (already activated) donor phone does...it gives the phone you WANT to activate the correct identifiers and codes
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
So its basically like a clone?

Ok, so its basically like i'll be cloning the information off the donor phone in order to activate the EVO? Then that means i'll have to get a phone with the local carrier i want to flash to? will any phone do or do i need a specific type?

Yes, thats exactly what you would be doing. As for the other part, I think its best to get a phone (like a cheap android) that you can easily read the information off of, but dont quote me on this because I've never flashed a phone to any carrier
You might wanna read through this just to get a sense of what it involves

If you can't follow that guide then you shouldn't be trying to carrier flash your device, you're gonna end up losing your NV data and borking the device

[Q] ROMs for Straight Talk SCH-S960L on Sprint Towers

Hello everyone,
First off, I want to apologize if this question has already been asked and answered. I've found a lot of conflicting information and I just wanted to get everything straight. I have the SCH-S960L Galaxy S3 that I purchased thru Straight Talk and this phone runs off of Sprint towers. Of course as everyone already knows, Straight Talk does not update the firmware on their branded phones and my phone is stuck running 4.1.2 - something I wish I would have known about before buying it for over $400. Anyway, I have read that the SCH-S960L is a variant of the SCH-L710 Sprint GS3. What I would like to know is if any custom ROMs on XDA will work on the SCH-S960L? If I can update my firmware to a solid ROM, I wouldn't mind keeping the phone for another year or so... but there are just too many things 4.1.2 won't allow me to do such as link certain bluetooth devices.
If anyone knows of any custom ROMs that would work, could you please reply and list their names and/or links to them? If you know of more than 1 custom ROM that will work, what one would you recommend? This is my daily phone, so everything has to work on it.
I really appreciate everyone's input. Thanks in advance.
There are several roms that work I have the exact same phone some roms I've tried are
-Cyanogen mod
-AICP
-OctOS (recommended)
I'm having trouble with the data right now I'm trying to find out how to fix it if I find out I'll let you know

Best Note 7 ROM for Note 4 Sprint?

Hi Guys,
Can anyone recommend the most feature packed Note 7 ROM for my Note 4 Sprint carrier. I have Used Dr. Ketan Note 7 ROM. It's a very good ROM..
But the camera app isn't updated and after updating it doesn't work, the original Samsung keyboard doesn't work properly, there is no private mode in it & message app doesn't work either.
So looking for a Note 7 ROM that contains less bugs.
Thanks,
Asim
Ive been using Tx.dbs Ultimate Note 7 hybrid rom since it came out and have been completely happy with how it operates as a daily for me,everything pretty much works perfect for a note 7 rom on a note 4.:good:

If your using Sprint service, I agree with @JAMRZ69, the UN7 rom by tx_dbs_tx was made specifically for Sprint.
But feel free to try others to, as long as they have a sprint fix.
Also try to apply AlternateSmsMmsSendingFix_UN7_Hybrid_by.txdbstx to any of the roms you try, as it might help with sprint service. It's on his thread.
As far as private mode goes, i don't think any note7 ports have it. I could be wrong about this part though.
Thanks guys,
I will surely try this ROM and post my feedback.
BTW, is it just me or do you guys also feel that Sprint carrier phone has very less Custom ROMS compared to other variants..
Also lucky are those who have international variants because I've seen ROMs that have almost 0 bugs..

Yes, I can agree with that. I'm kinda lucky in that apect,as I'm unlocked using gsm service (cricket). So it's easier for me to get the other roms working.
To explain why, from what i understand as I'm not a sprint customer, but from what I've studied here. Sprint is one of the hardest carrier's to get working, as they have an extra layer of software to connect to their service, in a sense! Plus Also the predominant service, worldwide is GSM. So there are more GSM roms and it's easy to get a certain gsm rom to work with another gsm provider, and also it isnt super hard to get cdma roms to work with gsm. BUT it is difficult to get GSM roms to work with cdma, especially Sprint because of their setup.
Hope that gives you some insight! At least this is how i understand it!
Plus also, there were actually a lot of sprint roms, they're just older lollipop or not being further developed. This is because the device is aging and all the devs moved on to another device. That's why we must be grateful for the continued development of roms on this device from these great developers. Hopefully some young learning devs like me can keep it going. But I'm just am old dog learning new tricks!

I am using an unlocked sprint phone myself.. Would that also allow me to flash custom ROMs which are for other GSM variants? If that's the case, then I can get hands on some really good ROMs.

Yes, how it usually works is, you install the rom, then you need to install a separate kernel for your device (in most cases they'll suggest the Ram kernel), Then you'll need a data fix. Which usually can be found, or you make one.
If you try a rom and have trouble, I can try to help you with making a fix. They're pretty simple for gsm service. What I've found out is, to stick with installing sprint kernel, but since we use gsm, you can use a tmobile data fix most of the time.

Omg, there are so many options. It's hard for me to say. I have a few post on Sprint section, giving my opinion, explaining some different roms. But it was just comparing newer Sprint roms. When you bring in the international thread, there's just so many options. And all of them are good. Its gonna come down to what works for you. Browse some of the current work going on, and try one. If you don't like after a trial run, try another. If anything, it'll give you xp flashing your device.
But just to name ones that I've actually had running, here's a list in no particular order:
Enhanced
Norma
Nemesis
Dr Keaton
Nameless
Auroa
Emotion
Resurrection
Lineage
Just off the top of my head. That's not counting the ones one the Sprint thread like, UN7 and Dtux.
Read, do some research, look at screenshots and pick one.
Once you pick one and if have trouble getting going with data fix. Let me know I'll try help!
Happy flashing!
Remember, it has to be a Snapdragon Rom.
im curious if anyone has found a nice rom to put on the N4, I just got a replacement the other day and im hoping to load something fun onto it. It came with marshmallow 6.0.1...
the last thing i had was UN5 running, im a little afraid to try UN7 knowing that development has stopped for it..
